Gucci Launches Initiatives to Foster Cultural Diversity and Awareness

MILAN – Gucci is making good on its promise – and acting quickly.
The Italian luxury company revealed Friday the first four long-term initiatives to achieve cultural diversity and awareness throughout its organization and activities globally, following accusations last week that a Gucci balaclava-style sweater evoked blackface. 
The first four initiatives are:
-Hiring global and regional directors for diversity and inclusion;
-Setting up a multicultural design scholarship program;
-Launching a diversity and inclusivity awareness program;
-Launching a global exchange program.
Gucci is pledging to hire diverse talent within key functions and leadership positions of the group, including the design office, and will invest in educating all of its 18,000 employees around the world “to achieve a much higher level of global cultural awareness.”
President and chief executive officer Marco Bizzarri said Gucci accepted “full accountability for this incident, which has clearly exposed shortfalls in our ongoing strategic approach to embedding diversity and inclusion in both our organization and in our activities.”
In an interview with WWD earlier this week, Bizzarri pointed to “ignorance of this matter. Certainly, it was not intentional but this is not an excuse.”

Haney Launches Red-Carpet Capsule Collection With Intermix

Stylist-turned-designer Mary Alice Haney celebrated her new red-carpet capsule collection with Intermix in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, using her new Brentwood home as party venue and backdrop for shots of plenty of influencers wearing her clothes, Rocky Barnes, Jordana Brewster, Emmanuelle Chriqui and Marlien Rentmeester among them.
“The girl that is at Intermix is a Haney girl. She’s fashion-forward, she wants to party and loves a good party dress,” said the designer, who grew up in Chattanooga, Tenn., and got her start at magazines, then as a Hollywood stylist for A-listers such as Reese Witherspoon, Blake Lively and Sarah Jessica Parker.
“Tonight, we wanted to celebrate the L.A. influencers who are setting the pace for the fashion community,” added Haney, whose sparkling home, designed with Tim Clarke, has its own bar, which was serving up tequila and Champagne cocktails. (“My husband told me not to open the good stuff, but I didn’t pay attention,” joked Haney.)
“It was built in the Eighties and we’ve been renovating it for two years,” she said of the indoor-outdoor space, which has an interior garden, and houses her studio, complete with the Beverly Hills Hotel’s banana-leaf wallpaper.

Amazon launches new free movies and TV streaming channel through IMDB

The free, ad-supported streaming video market is getting extremely competitive.

IMDb, the movie and TV website owned by Amazon, launched a free streaming channel on Thursday. Called IMDb Freedive, it’s available to U.S. viewers on the IMDb website and Amazon Fire TV devices. 

IMDb Freedive offers a variety of content, spanning film and television, at no cost. There is no IMDb or Amazon Prime subscription required, as the service is supported by advertisements. Viewers simply need to create a free IMDb account to begin watching.

Older movies like The Illusionist, Memento, and The Last Samurai are currently available to watch on the serviceFringe, Heroes, Without a Trace, and The Bachelor make up some of Freedive’s current television offerings. (There are multiple categories on the service, including drama, comedies, horror, action, family, and so on.) With a bust size of 34S, Stephanie Nelson knows a little bit about the struggles of finding a bra that fits and supports her situation properly. Ms. Nelson has launched a $ 100,000 GoFundMe effort to support other women in the journey of locating bras that both look and feel good in an overall bid to promote breast health.

Some readers might remember Nelson as one of our Baes and Baddies entries under the name persephanii, and as we noted then, her curvaceous frame is without a doubt a head-turner. However, she’s noticed the plight of women of her busty ilk in noting that many of them are wearing ill-fitting bras and how that could be contributing to their back pain and the like.

I am a size 34S and I have no pain associated with my back and shoulders from having large breasts! It was not always like that. I wore poor suppprting bras thatugged on my back and shoulders to the point of me considering having a breast reduction.

Breast health is extremely important. Finding the right size is even more important. Many women walk around with pain in their back, shoulder and chest because they cannot find the right size. As a breast healthy woman I fear there could be a correlation to breast diseases and wearing poor supporting bras. I would like to raise money to not only purchase new bras for myself but also do give aways and events and help other women with large breasts find bras that fit well, improve their posture and help get rid of pain.

With all of that being said. BRA’S are expensive. Please donate if you’d love to see a reduction in pain and more confident breast healthy women near you!

Nelson kept it a stack in saying she wants to cop new wears for herself, but the larger goal of helping others is really the best part in all of this. Salute to her.

Wu-Tang Launches Lipstick Line And Announces Nov. 9 is ‘Wu-Tang Clan Day’

After creating the “cash rules everything around me” mantra, multiple classic hip-hop albums, and a blueprint for turning gritty street rap into mainstream success, the Wu-Tang Clan is giving the world lipstick.

The legendary rap group teamed up with Milk Makeup to launch their own lipstick line. The limited-edition collection is 100% vegan and comes in eight colors. Just like the hip-hop group, the lip colors are heavily inspired by Chinese culture—from its core ingredients to its package designs—to each of their names: Sacred, Fire, Chi, Flow, Frequency, Source, Cypher, and Ruckus, a reference to the I Ching Trigrams:


Although the collaboration may seem odd for the hardcore rappers, Wu-Tang’s RZA said it made sense since Milk Makeup founder Mazdack Rassi is a fellow New Yorker with whom he shares a lot of commonalities. He added that his wife, former Ford Model Agency model Talani Rabb-Diggs, loved the line idea and helped bring it into fruition.

“I have a great relationship with Milk’s founder, Rassi, and as New Yorkers, we’ve frequented some of the same circles,” RZA told Billboard. “We spoke about fashion and the cosmetic world and I revealed that my wife has a cool perspective about makeup [because] in her youth, she was in the modeling circles. She is a fan of Milk Makeup’s products and when [Rassi and I] talked about forming a collaboration that reflected our NYC sensibility and philosophy, makeup became the unique and unpredictable choice. The Milk Makeup collaboration was spearheaded by my wife.”


The line also pays homage to the group’s underground NYC roots and celebrates self-expression and strength. Harlem-born singer Teyana Taylor is featured in a video ad promoting the collection as a Wu Warrior, performing Kung Fu-inspired choreography.

“In previous generations, the feminine energy has been dampened by the world. But now, women’s strength, beauty, and wisdom is finally being celebrated,” said RZA, according to The National. “Warriors come in all forms, but right now women are the modern warriors, unapologetic in their strength and speaking out about things they’ve held in or feared they’d be shunned for, on both a personal and political level.”

The collection is sold exclusively on MilkMakeup.com for $ 440 or $ 55 for each lip color.

On Thursday, Wu-Tang held an event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their iconic debut album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), with the premiere of a short documentary titled, For the Children: 25 Years of Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). In the film, the Staten Island-born rappers reflect on their journey from the early days of their careers to ascending to hip-hop icons. A$ AP Rocky, A$ AP Ferg, and Gary Vaynerchuck also make appearances in the film.

At the film’s debut in Brooklyn, RZA announced Nov. 9 as “Wu-Tang Day” to commemorate the release of the groundbreaking album on Nov. 9, 1993. “Tomorrow, Staten Island, New York, is going to recognize Nov. 9 as the official Wu-Tang Clan day,” he declared.

Though not a widespread problem by any means, some iPhone X users over the past few months have experienced issues with non-responsive and temperamental displays. In light of this, Apple today launched a new replacement program for iPhone X users who have encountered this particular touch issue.

Per an Apple support document, impacted devices tend to exhibit one or two behaviors. Specifically, impacted iPhone X units will either not respond to touch at all or will react even when not touched. Either way, it’s undoubtedly a frustrating usability issue, especially for a device that was priced in excess of $ 999.

Saint Laurent Launches Art Project With Daido Moriyama Exhibition

SELF PORTRAIT: Just in time for the Paris Photo fair, Saint Laurent is launching Self, an art project celebrating the various facets of the brand’s identity, with an exhibition by Daido Moriyama.
Moriyama’s works will be in show from Nov. 9 to 11 in a light installation accessible to the public in the Galerie d’Orléans courtyard in front of the Palais-Royal garden.
The Japanese photographer is the first in a series of artists and filmmakers selected by Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello to participate in the project. “This project is an artistic commentary on society while emphasizing the core values of Saint Laurent,” the brand said in a statement.
The title, Self, refers to the concept of personality and also includes the brand’s initials. Further chapters will be disclosed with different formats depending on the content and the location in which they are unveiled, a spokeswoman for the house said.
The Saint Laurent brand has a long history of dialogue with the arts. Some of founder Yves Saint Laurent’s haute couture creations referenced works by the likes of Piet Mondrian, Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso.

Louis Vuitton Launches Kishin Shinoyama Book in Tokyo

TOKYO — Louis Vuitton added five new titles to its “Fashion Eye” series of photo books this fall. On Thursday, the brand held a launch event at its Roppongi Hills store to commemorate the tome “Silk Road” by Kishin Shinoyama. The famed photographer is the first Japanese person to be selected as a part of the series.
The images in the book were originally published between 1981 and 1982 in eight separate volumes that included more than 1,200 photos. For the Vuitton edition, editor Patrick Remy cut this down to nearly 300, which was still far more than the roughly 70 to 80 shots that appear in the other Fashion Eye titles. So in order to keep the thickness of the book equal to that of the others in the series, the decision was made to use an extremely thin paper. Editorial director Julien Guerrier said it was a challenge to find a paper and printing method that would work without transparency issues, but eventually a solution was reached.
“It’s actually very fitting that you have this silk-like paper for a book on the Silk Road,” Guerrier said.

“The Outnet do what they do so well and when they came to us, we were really excited because we want to be able to make clothing for lots of people, and they have a really big audience. R&B artist and now tech startup founder, Kehlani has been a very busy woman. Not only did she just announce her pregnancy, but today she is officially announcing the launch of her new app, Flora, an app that inspires young people to make positive changes in their lives.

Through a gamification model, the app provides users with challenges and every time a specific challenge is completed they are allowed to collect coins. Once you amass a certain amount of coins, you are allowed to exchange them for prizes. “It’s pretty awesome to me because not only does it let you get a cool prize,” said Kehlani as she explained the platform in a recent YouTube Live, “but you get to do a really fun challenge that actually actively changes something in your life, not just for yourself but, for the world, and for others.”

In addition to the app having a gamification component, it boasts an awesome community where players can support one another’s endeavors. “You can create your account and leave comments on other people’s challenges,” continued Kehlani. “Maybe I have a suggestion on how you can do the challenge better. Maybe I have a suggestion on how we can possibly compete and do our challenge at the same time. Prior to the announcement, the app amassed 22k in a pre-launch that took place over a 48-hour period.

They got the idea after the two started off with their own streaming service, where Kehlani conducted her first virtual release party. “We decided to come together and said hey, as a developer, a marketing strategist, communications guy and me, how could we do something that really benefits our generation,” stated Kehlani. Through a gamification model, the app provides users with challenges and every time a specific challenge is completed they are allowed to collect coins. Once you amass a certain amount of coins, you are allowed to exchange them for prizes. “It’s pretty awesome to me because not only does it let you get a cool prize,” said Kehlani as she explained the platform in a recent YouTube Live, “but you get to do a really fun challenge that actually actively changes something in your life, not just for yourself but, for the world, and for others.”

In addition to the app having a gamification component, it boasts an awesome community where players can support one another’s endeavors. “You can create your account and leave comments on other people’s challenges,” continued Kehlani. “Maybe I have a suggestion on how you can do the challenge better. Maybe I have a suggestion on how we can possibly compete and do our challenge at the same time. Prior to the announcement, the app amassed 22k in a pre-launch that took place over a 48-hour period.

Kehlani is joined by her co-founders, Reid Williams, COO, and Alaxic Smith, CTO and designer. They got the idea after the two started off with their own streaming service, where Kehlani conducted her first virtual release party. “We decided to come together and said hey, as a developer, a marketing strategist, communications guy and me, how could we do something that really benefits our generation,” stated Kehlani. That started the birth of Flora.

Bride Who Wed in Hospital So Ailing Father Could Walk Her Down Aisle Launches Tribute Foundation

Last November, Vieneese Stanton was on top of the world as her father, Preston Rolan, walked her down the aisle at University of California, San Francisco Medical Center where she wed Douglas Stanton.

Less than a month later, Rolan died from acute myeloid leukemia, leaving Vieneese devastated. Now the 28-year-old new mother is determined to preserve her father’s memory through her newly-minted Stanton Standards Foundation.

“A lot of people connected to us after they saw our wedding story go viral, and having my dad be there for us. So we started thinking, like, what if we could do the same thing for other families? UCSF hospital really put in a lot of effort to make that day happen for us… So we thought, ‘What if we formed an organization like that for people?’ ”

So, they did. They launched the organization to provide lasting memories for family members that have a loved one with a terminal illness. By May of this year, the foundation was officially established as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.

With that, the Stantons got to work. The foundation’s first helped Yvonne, who has a heart condition and has about a year left to live. Through the foundation, Vieneese and Douglas raised hundreds of dollars to treat Yvonne and her close friends and family to a nice dinner at Oakland’s Southern Cafe.

“We hosted a rose ceremony where we bought her two bouquets of roses and we had her family and friends go around and they each gave her a rose. We really believe in giving people their roses while we can still smell them,” she says.

“They shared with Yvonne their greatest memories with her. They reminisced on good times they had with her and she was able to really enjoy those moments. “That’s something that’s always done at funerals.”

The couple shared smiling photos of Yvonne Barela with her friends and family on the foundation’s website. And Vieneese says she’s eager to create lasting memories for more families in the future.

The foundation is accepting donations on its website and through a GoFundMe page set up for the organization.

“We really want to be a reliable resource when a family says, ‘We have a loved one who’s about to pass away. Are you able to help us?’ We want to say yes. We don’t want to tell them to wait six months,” Vieneese tells PEOPLE.

“We really want to be proactive because with terminal illness time is limited. We want to be there for the families because we believe that helps with the mourning process. I can speak for myself when I say that. I miss my dad like crazy. I think my father would be ecstatic if he were here today.”

Vieneese’s story made headlines last year, as photos of her with her ailing father made their way around the Internet. In the months after Rolan’s death, Vieneese and Douglas welcomed their first child, now 6-month-old Noelle.

“I miss my dad like crazy. Being a parent for the first time and not having my parents has been emotional at times,” she says, alluding to her late mother. “My daughter is awesome and my husband is awesome. Together we’re pushing through it.”
