Seth Meyers: ‘Let’s Not Take a Closer Look’ at Trump’s ‘Mushroom’ Dick

NBC

Seth Meyers has made his name by taking “A Closer Look” at the biggest political stories of the day, often spending more than 12 minutes delving into one particular topic. But Stormy Daniels’ description of Donald Trump’s penis from her upcoming book Full Disclosure was too much for him.

In an excerpt released by The Guardian on Tuesday, Daniels writes of the president of the United States, “He knows he has an unusual penis. It has a huge mushroom head. Like a toadstool… I lay there, annoyed that I was getting fucked by a guy with Yeti pubes and a dick like the mushroom character in Mario Kart.”

After reading that quote aloud, the Late Night host said, “So for once, I’m gonna say let’s not take a closer look.”

Let’s Talk About Sex, Baby: Crucial Bedroom Conversations To Have With Your Partner

There is this sentiment that talking about sex can ‘ruin the mood,’ but sex therapist Gloria Brame, Ph.D. believes the opposite.

“You can’t have a great sex life unless you have great communication about sex with your partner,” Brame explained. “The more you can talk about what you want, ask for what you like, and listen to and act on your partner’s needs, the better your sex life will be.”

Here are 5 important conversations you should be having with your sexual partner, according to the experts.

1. How Does Your Partner Know You’re In The Mood? It’s important to be able to interpret when you’re partner is trying to initiate sex—otherwise you miss an opportunity. “Many people think that this should be obvious and doesn’t really need to be discussed,” says Madeleine Castellanos, M.D., sex therapist and author of Wanting to Want: What Kills Your Sex Life and How to Keep It Alive. “But this is one question that most couples learn the most about each other when they first come in to see me for counseling. Think about it: If you aren’t picking up on the signals your partner is sending you, misinterpreting the signals, or maybe even ignoring them, you are missing out on a chance to form a connection with your partner.”

2. Discuss Turn Ons/Turn Offs Maybe it’s morning breath. Maybe it’s not so hot to get down and dirty when you haven’t showered. Whatever the reason may be, you and your partner need to understand what turns the other off, so that you don’t kill the mood with your behavior. Alternatively, turn ons, like lingerie, a good meal or stimulating conversations, are also important to note. Brame explains, “The best way to ensure your partner keeps you turned on is to know and indulge each other’s biggest turn-ons. If there are specific acts, positions or words that instantly turn you off, telling your partner will help him avoid upsetting you in bed,” Brame says.

3. Open Up About Your Fantasies. When it comes to sex, being shy is not an option. Telling your partner your deepest desires can open up a world of sex you all never knew was possible. “Vulnerability breeds trust,” says Kat Van Kirk, certified sex therapist and author of The Married Sex Solution: A Realistic Guide to Saving Your Sex Life, “The more you can establish that in your sex life, the better and more fun it will be. Oftentimes, it’s just the thought that can help you create arousal,” she says.

4. Talk About Changes In Your Sex Life. Sex changes just like everything else in this world–and there’s nothing to be ashamed of. Telling your partner about your personal mental, social, or physiological changes when it comes to sex is crucial. “Sharing what you’ve noticed can be ways that sex has become more positive for you or more challenging for you,” says Castellanos. “By sharing this information, both of you can celebrate how things are better and collaborate to find solutions for the challenges that your sexual relationship may face.”

5. The Honeymoon Won’t Last Forever. It’s hard to keep the spark in long-term relationships, but it’s not impossible. Acknowledging the changes without judging them is the key. “All long term relationships have ebbs and flows regarding sex,” says Van Kirk. She suggests a “quickie, make out session, or simply giving foot rubs during a Netflix marathon,” can make or break the relationship.

‘Let’s Keep Making Noise.’ Serena Williams Dedicates Wimbledon Final to ‘All Moms’

Serena Williams competed in her 30th Grand Slam singles final at Wimbledon this weekend, in a re-match of the 2016 Wimbledon final when she defeated Angelique Kerber. While Williams didn’t win in their most recent face-off, the fact that she was in the tennis competition’s final a mere ten months after giving birth to to her daughter Alexis Olympia is an impressive feat in and of itself. Particularly as her pregnancy and birth led to a number of health issues, including a pulmonary embolism and multiple surgeries.

While Williams lost to Kerber, she was still surprised by her performance, noting in a post-game interview that she “didn’t expect to do this well in my fourth tournament back.” After the final, Williams took to Twitter to express her appreciation for her fans with a shout-out to all moms. She wrote that the “past 2 weeks was a sound for all moms” whether they choose to “stay home” or work, adding “you can do it you really can! I’m not any better or diff than any of you all.”

Williams’s husband Alexis Ohanian took to Twitter to express his awe at his wife’s accomplishment. He noted that after her pregnancy lead to a pulmonary embolism that nearly cost Williams her life.

Books coming out this week: “This Love Story Will Self-Destruct,” “Let’s Talk About Love,” and more

Let’s Agree: This Dress Is All We Want to Wear Now

Come September, there are certain pieces we can’t wait to break out of our closets: ankle boots, cozy sweaters, and most notably, suede dresses. While sweatier summer months aren’t ideal for a material quite as robust as suede, once things start to chill out, it’s the material that we instantly crave in our wardrobes.

The best thing about a suede dress is that it’s a piece that easily can be dressed up or down. It feels luxe and polished enough for the office, but it exudes a more chill feeling when styled with sneakers. This season, the dress comes in plenty of cool cuts and a bevy of bold colors. So no matter what your signature look may be, there’s a suede dress worthy of a spot in your seasonal outfit rotation.

Read on for a look at how some of our favorite style stars wear suede dresses and to shop the styles we love most.

Try adding a belt to break up your look.
A colorful minidress looks best styled with seasonal booties.

Here are some videos of the “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” cast recording “Let’s Generalize About Men” because it’s been stuck in our heads since Friday

Ever since the third season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend premiered this Friday, everyone has been spontaneously breaking out in song. More specifically, everyone is singing the episode’s breakout hit, “Let’s Generalize About Men,” because it’s the hilarious misandrist anthem that the world needs right now.

One of the best things about Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is that Rebecca Bunch manages to say what everyone wishes they could say (or, in this case, sing) while also pointing out just how ridiculous it is. “Let’s Generalize About Men” is the perfect example of why Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is one of the best shows on TV. It satisfyingly expresses things that are annoying about men while also poking holes in the broad generalizations people make when talking smack with their friends.

Because the lyrics of “Let’s Generalize About Men” are just so perfect, we want to know more about it. And that’s when the beauty of social media really becomes palpable. That’s because Rachel Bloom, the brains behind Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and the actress who plays Rebecca Bunch, shared some behind the scenes videos from creating the masterpiece on her Instagram. And they’re so much fun.

In one Instagram post, Rachel Bloom showed the girls practicing the choreography.

Yes! Bloom, Donna Lynne Champlin (who plays Paula), Gabrielle Ruiz (who plays Valencia), and Vella Lovell (who plays Heather) look so amazing while body-rolling and singing the hilarious lyrics, “Let’s get super lit and not admit this is some kind of primal ritual we need now and then.”

In another video, Bloom shows the ladies singing the song at the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend table read.

If you’ve ever wanted to be a fly on the wall to see how all of the actors might react to some of the show’s outrageous songs, this is your chance.

Yeah, it’s pretty exciting that we get to see Josh’s reaction to Bloom singing, “There are not exceptions, all three million men are like this!” Considering that Josh left Rebecca at the alter, her character needs to denigrate and denounce the entire male gender, and doing that with one’s girlfriends really is a part of the healing process after a bad breakup.

We’ve all been there.

Laughing is also important, and “Let’s Generalize About Men” successfully satirizes the wine-infused nights shared among a group of girls who just need to make unfounded statements about why men are terrible. Like saying, “All every man does everyday is watch porn, eat wings, burp, fart, and snore.”

It’s all in good fun on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. And “Let’s Generalize About Men” is just about one of the funniest songs ever made.

Laila Ali Let’s Work Ethic, Not Legacy, Dictate Her Success (Exclusive)

Laila Ali

We’ve seen Laila Ali’s incredible success as a world champion female boxer, but do we know how she actually got there? A lot of us would attribute it to her father but she begs to differ. Ali recently sat down with Impact Theory host Tom Bilyeu to chat about how her work ethic played a massive role in her success with both boxing and her other endeavors.

“I have a work ethic where I have really high expectations of myself and I work hard. There’s something that I’m going to eventually get good at if I’m going to keep doing it,” said Ali. “Even with my fights; I didn’t judge my fight after I knocked somebody out. I didn’t go, ‘Oh, look how great I did.’ I’m watching the tape like, let me see what I can do better next time.”

Laila Ali and Tom Bilyeu (Image: Laila Ali and Tom Bilyeu)

A lot of times people see her success and assume because of her roots, she was blessed with golden hands and yes, some of that may be true, but she still had to put in the work.

“Obviously growing up Muhammad Ali’s daughter, I’ve been inspired by my father in a lot of ways to give back and that’s what ultimately helped me make the decision to box. I had to not be selfish because my reasons for not wanting to be public where kind of selfish, like you know, I don’t want to be bothered and I don’t want to be that Hollywood-type person,” said Ali. “But I think when you can be authentic and you can be unguarded, you have a story to tell. You kind of do it over and over again, [and] you just get better at it.”

Rules to live by. Watch the clip below and stay tuned for the full episode, here.

Let’s do the math: How much sleep have you lost as a parent?

Plug the ages of your kids into this website, hit “calculate my lost sleep,” and prepare to shed a few tears for all of the shuteye you can never get back.

lost sleep calculator

Thanks to home furnishing brand Hillarys in the United Kingdom, we can now tally just how long all those up-all-night feedings (not to mention the swaddling, shushing, swinging, and hunting for lost pacifiers) take. The calculator also churns out numbers on how many nappies (that’s diapers for those of us Stateside) you’ve gone through, bedtime stories read, and lullabies sung.

Since my kids are now older, I thought back to weeks and months exhaustion ruled our world for my calculation. Here’s the result for one kid at 23 months old, and a baby at 3 months of age:

lost sleep calculator

Do you see that?! I had enough time to gestate another child through all the sleep I’ve missed out on!

As someone who loves sleep the way others go crazy for football or ice cream, I can’t help but cringe looking at those 6,453 hours tallied up. Still, I have to wonder just how these calculations are done. I was very lucky to have a firstborn who slept through the night at 2 months old. From what I can tell, his early months are being counted as the same as the 15-month struggle I had getting baby number two to sleep soundly. Perhaps if you have a few kids it averages out?

For what it’s worth, I put in my kids’ current ages (12- and 11 years old), and the total only jumped to 6,660 hours. Seems they are at least accounting for kids sleeping better as they age — and thank goodness they do!

Let’s Bask In The Glory Of These Photos Of Queen Elizabeth II Driving A Car

Queen Elizabeth II drove full speed ahead into our hearts earlier this week when she was spotted driving around in her Jaguar.

So what better way to cruise into the weekend than by taking a drive down memory lane?

In our research, we learned that while there is one month in particular you might be more likely to spot her behind the wheel, she has done quite a bit of driving over the years, despite the fact that she does not ― wait for it ― have a driver’s license

Braille Smartwatch Lets Users Feel Time, Texts And GPS Directions

It’s about time.

Facebook, texting and GPS are commonplace tech that most of us use. But these apps, which help to bring many of us closer together, can be incredibly alienating for the visually impaired and blind.

Small font sizes and glitch-y text-to-speak functions make keeping up with the way society communicates increasingly difficult and frustrating to those who have visual disabilities.

But a South Korean company has invented a new smartwatch that promotes inclusivity and accessibility.

The Dot smartwatch, which one could connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth, has a touch display where rising and falling dots spell out words in Braille. This means that users can receive any text from any app or service on their smartphone and have it translated into Braille on their Dot smartwatch.

Users can also send simple messages using buttons on the side of the watch.

Other smartwatches, such as the Apple Watch, have attempted to be more accessible to the visually impaired by utilizing sound to read information on the screen through a speaker, but this method often robs disabled users of privacy.

The Dot was the brainchild of founder and CEO Eric Kim. He had the idea while he was attending the University of Washington and noticed a blind classmate lugging large, bulky books to class while most students were using tablets. After learning that these were Braille textbooks, he was disheartened to learn that this student couldn’t take advantage of new technology.

Though the concept is novel, it does have its flaws.

Not all people who are visually impaired read Braille. Fewer than 10 percent of the 1.3 million people who are legally blind in the United States are Braille readers, according to a report by the National Federation of the Blind. The BBC also points out that because the watch face is small, reading long passages on the watch could be a pain.

Yet, because the Dot also has an open API, developers can constantly improve upon the technology and perhaps improve upon its technology.

The Dot smartwatch has been in the development for about 3 years, and will hit selected stores in the UK in March. The company told the Huffington Post that they hope to get units to the U.S. next and will hopefully have them available before April. They will retail for about $ 300 before tax.

The company is currently accepting pre-orders through their site with a 10 percent discount.

Let’s Stop Blaming Millennials for Everything

“Are colleges too politically correct for comedy?” was the overhyped bird flu/shark attack/Ebola of the news recently. Having had a less-than-stellar experience performing comedy at a college, I wrote a piece about the idea. I discussed my university show gone awry, and it got a decent little amount of attention. Right place, right time.

Most topics are polarizing, but the idea colleges were too PC found a home where both conservatives and liberals could reside. From the Huffington Post to the Rush Limbaugh show, many agreed that Millennials needed to toughen up and take a joke. They turned a concept involving an institution — universities — into a generation war and finger pointing: “Generation Y is useless!”

I’m not sure that accomplishes anything, and in my piece, I went out of my way to avoid laying blame on the students.

I discussed what happened, and reported the information I was given. I did note the kids were too involved with socializing and their phones to be a good audience, but I didn’t insult them for not getting my jokes. I also didn’t say the students found me offensive; I noted the young woman in charge said I was. I discussed exactly what I thought the problem was: a hypersensitive institution unwilling to take a chance while pandering to sensitivity. That’s on the institution, not the students.

No child ever becomes who they are on their own. Someone raised Millennials and instilled quirks and sensitivities in them. It’s easy to make fun of them for getting participation ribbons and attaboys for doing nothing, but who hands those ribbons out? What parent first decided their precious child couldn’t take having hurt feelings, and why did the rest of society go along with that? Is it because latchkey kids became parents and didn’t want their kids to feel as unloved as they did? I don’t know, but I’m curious. Understanding the root cause of a problem should be more important than yelling at the end result.

I’d also say it is unfair to blame Millennials for the actions of a university, and here’s why: A few weeks after my disastrous college gig, I spent a weekend at The Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase. It’s a comedy club in, you guessed it, Ann Arbor, MI.

Ann Arbor is a college town, where the school and city intertwine. University means students, and students means Millennials. When young faces entered the comedy club before my first show, I grew slightly nervous. Not paranoid, but a smidge unsure of my abilities. After all, the last time I had been in front of members of their generation things hadn’t gone well.

Once on stage, I started slinging jokes and wave after wave of laughter washed over me. As they say in the business, “I destroyed.” After all four shows I left the stage overjoyed with the audience response to my nonsense. Members of Gen Y, Gen X, and Baby Boomer walked out of the showroom smiling and reaching for my hand; they all had a blast, and wanted to congratulate me on a job well done.

In those moments, I realized something simple: these people were at a comedy club. They came specifically to see comedy. They paid to see comedy. The students at my college show had shown up looking for something to do. Comedy was an afterthought, not their evening.

In my piece, I asked, “Are colleges destroying comedy?” The answer is no. Colleges may be hurting comedy on their own campuses, and by not allowing students to hear a variety of jokes and opinions they may be hurting that young person’s overall development, but they aren’t destroying comedy.

Comedy is doing just fine, and Millennials will laugh at funny when they make the conscious decision to step into a comedy venue and see it.

Maybe the best course of action isn’t to point fingers and blame an entire generation for how they were raised, but to confront the leaders of the PC movement. We know who they are, but I’m not going to name them here. Attention is their sustenance, and I will not offer them food of any sort. When they start their hashtag campaigns or social media assaults on comedy, however, I will mock them. I will mock, challenge, and call them out on their nonsense.

And I hope you’ll join me, whatever your age.
