This Simpsons Episode Had a Sneaky Mistake You Probably Missed

When you’ve been on the air for 29 seasons like The Simpsons has, there are bound to be a few slip-ups with the narrative’s continuity, something that the creators often take in stride. A pretty significant blunder, however, was recently re-discovered by executive producer Matt Selman, who took to social media on Wednesday to reveal the sneaky mistake on the beloved show.

In episode 13 of the sixth season, Marge tells Homer that she’s pregnant with Maggie, but keen-eyed viewers like Selman will notice that a picture of baby Maggie hangs on the wall behind Marge even though technically Maggie hasn’t been born yet.

Selman’s discovery prompted a response from The Simpsons writer Al Jean.

And led to many speculations about the repercussions of the mistake.

Slideshow: Everything You Missed at the American Black Film Festival 2018 Including Future, Kofi, and Coogler

If you were seeking to break into the film industry or you love black movies and television shows, the only place to be on this planet was the 22nd Annual Black Film Festival. Held in Miami, the event was sold out—and for good reason.

ABFF Ventures CEO Jeff Friday created the film festival more than two decades ago as the premier professional development and networking platform for African American filmmakers, artists, and industry influencers. This year, filmmakers, producers, and actors sought to elevate themselves within the industry by gaining essential training through a series of master classes taught by seasoned pros, which included “Becoming A Showrunner;” “Film Financing;” and “Nailing Your Audition.” Others gained the inside track through “Business of Entertainment” seminars sessions that demystified film distribution deals; evaluated television writers’ rooms; and shared how Netflix Original Films seeks to diversify talent in front of and behind the camera, among other topics.

Attendees also gained access to premier entertainment and interviews. For instance, HBO, which has been an ABFF partner for 21 years, sponsored the side-splitting Comedy Wings Competition as well as diverse, powerful slate of indies featured as part of its short film competition. Moreover, filmmakers and film lovers alike packed Miami’s New World Center to view an exclusive interview with ABFF alum and filmmaker of the moment: Black Panther Director Ryan Coogler.

The Alternative World Cup You Might Have Missed This Summer

The FIFA World Cup is in full swing this week. But if you prefer your soccer with a side of politics, the real tournament of the summer was the “alternative” World Cup that wrapped up on June 9, pitting teams from the world’s “nations, de-facto nations, regions, minority peoples and sports isolated territories.”

While World Cup teams play for pride, these teams play for recognition. Started back in 2013, the soccer tournament is organized by the Confederation of Independent Football Associations (CONIFA), a “politically-neutral, volunteer-run charity.” CONIFA oversees 47 teams, 16 of which made the cut for this year’s tournament in the U.K.

The participants came from all points of the globe, from the Abkhazians of northwest Georgia to the Matabelelanders of eastern Zimbabwe. Four teams showed themselves to be a cut above the rest: Szekely Land, Padania, Northern Cyprus and tournament champion Karpatalya. Here’s a brief overview of each.

4th Place: Szekely Land

Nestled in Central Romania, Szekely Land is home to hundreds of thousands of ethnic Hungarians. Originally part of Hungary, it was redrawn as part of Romania (twice, actually) in the treaties following both World Wars. The territory’s name comes from the Hungarian dialect they speak known as Szekel.

For decades, Szekely Land inhabitants were treated as second-class citizens by Romania’s communist dictatorship—they were barred from speaking Hungarian in public life, elections of Hungarian officials were invalidated, and cross-border communication was severely limited. Since the early 1990s and the fall of the USSR, the push for autonomy has been spearheaded by the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania, who seek territorial and cultural autonomy within Romania. Most protests have been peaceful, though a clash in 1990 left five dead.

Unfortunately for them, the Romanian government does not believe their grievances warrant independence. Still, the dream remains alive.

3rd Place: Padania

Padania comprises Italy’s northernmost regions, centered around the Po River Valley. Since Italy failed to qualify for the traditional World Cup, Padania’s 3rd-place finish is likely to be the country’s strongest showing in an international soccer tournament this summer. Padania is notable for another reason too—the group long-pushing for Padania’s break from Rome and the rest of Italy was a party called the Northern League… which recently rebranded itself as the “League” and stormed to second-place in Italian national elections.

For years, the Northern League had derided its Southern countrymen and decried the industrious north’s money being redistributed to the poorer south; those criticisms were muted as the League rose in national prominence. It’s now in an anti-establishment coalition government with the Euroskeptic Five Star Movement, where its strong anti-migration bent has Brussels on its heels. Still, the ambition to secede lives on for some—the “Great North” party is sprung from the remnants of the Northern League.

But it’s difficult to claim unfair treatment when the region’s political champion is now the one calling the shots in Rome. Plenty of others in this tournament would love to have this type of problem.

Runner-Up: Northern Cyprus

Northern Cyprus claimed second place as the losing tournament finalist. Cyprus has been one of the most dangerous flash points between rivals Turkey and Greece for years now—originally under British rule, Cyprus became an independent country in 1960. Today, 78 percent of the population is Greek-Cypriot, and 18 percent is Turkish-Cypriot. Both Turkey and Greece had originally agreed to respect the island’s independence and territorial integrity, but as tensions flared in the 1960s and early 1970s, the military junta in Athens backed an attempted coup by Greek-Cypriots in 1974, triggering an invasion of North Cyprus by Turkish troops. A population exchange between north and south soon followed, as did nearly a decade of failed negotiations. In 1983, North Cyprus declared its independence; to this day, no one besides Turkey recognizes it as an independent country.

Tensions between north and south have been at a relatively low simmer for some time, but so long as the Cyprus issue remains unresolved, it risks becoming a lightning rod for any Greek or Turkish politician seeking a nationalist bump in the polls.

Champion: Karpatalya

And finally, the team of the tournament. Karpatalya is located in the Carpathian mountains in western Ukraine, bordering Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. It houses nearly 1.2 million people of varying ethnic and religious backgrounds, prominent among them ethnic Hungarians. Amid the mayhem of World War II, the territory—once part of Czechoslovakia—declared independence for 24 hours before being annexed by Hungary. It was subsequently claimed by Ukraine under the banner of the Soviet Union when Europe was being divvied up after the war. When the USSR collapsed in 1991, a referendum saw nearly 8 in 10 Karpathians vote for autonomy… which was promptly dismissed.

What wasn’t dismissed was Karpatalya’s participation in the World Football Cup tournament. Ukraine’s Sports Minister, Igor Zhdanov, took to Facebook to decry the team’s participation: “I call on the Security Service of Ukraine to respond appropriately to such a frank act of sporting separatism. It is necessary to interrogate the players of the team… for the purpose of encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine and ties with terrorist and separatist groups.” A good reminder that sometimes being ignored isn’t the worst thing in the world.

Ryan Reynolds Roasts Blake Lively After She Jokes She Missed Out on Dating His ‘Hot’ Twin

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively keep one-upping each other in the race to see who can roast better!

While the Deadpool 2 star did actually grow up with three older siblings, his “twin” brother Gordon (who’s actually just actor) occasionally interviews the 41 year old while seemingly trying to take the movie star down a peg or two.

Letting his fans know on Friday that he’d sat down with his twin brother once again, the actor shared a short clip of their interview on social media, writing, “Tomorrow is #WorldGinDay. My brother is an ass. Which is why you can’t have one without the other.”

“It’s nice to see you again,” Gordon tells his brother at the beginning of a short clip. “It’s like looking in a mirror, five years from now.”

“It’s nice to see you Gordon. We’re off to a good start,” the actor sarcastically replied.

Responding to the interview, Lively jokingly suggested that she had picked the wrong Reynolds brother to marry.

“S—. Your brother is hot. I’ve made a terrible mistake…” she wrote in a comment captured by popular Instagram account Comments by Celebs.

Not to be outdone this time, Reynolds playfully responded, “You haven’t made a mistake. You’ve been living with him for over a year.”

Poking fun at each other and their high-profile relationship is nothing new for the couple, who have been married since 2012 and have two daughters: James, 3, and Inez, 20 months.

In May, while insisting that his wife spoil the plot of her upcoming film A Simple Favor — a movie which centers around the mysterious disappearance of Lively’s character  — Reynolds revealed that Lively, 30, actually drove him to the hospital while she was in labor with one of their children.

“You can tell me. We’re married. You once drove me to the hospital when you were giving birth. So..what the f— happened to Emily?” he wrote on Twitter in response to a new trailer for the film that Lively shared on her own account.

Her response? “Oh darling, of all the secrets I’m keeping from you, this should be the LEAST of your concerns… trust me.”

The touching Meghan Markle moment you probably missed from the carriage drive

Sky news presenter, Sarah-Jane Mee was at the heart of the action…

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Carriage Procession, Windsor, Berkshire, UK – 19 May 2018

You may think you have gleaned every. single. detail from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s (AKA the Duke and Duchess of Sussex) glorious wedding day, from the secret to Meghan’s wedding hair, to those now immortal words Prince Harry whispered to Meghan at the altar in St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle (that resulted in two billion people across the globe becoming overnight lip-reading experts). But chances are, you weren’t actually there, on the front line where the action was playing out in real time.

Thankfully for us, Sky news presenter, Sarah-Jane Mee was, for the entirety of the celebrations, and has given us these behind-the-scenes tidbits that will have you reliving the Royal wedding for the billionth time (and no, we’re not sorry about it…).

‘The first glimpse we caught of Meghan was her arrival in the car to huge cheers in her Givenchy dress by designer Clare Waight Keller, it was a choice nobody predicted, her veil embroidered with flowers from all 53 countries of the Commonwealth and her Queen Mary diamond tiara was on loan from the Queen.

There was some rather amusing scenes amongst the Royals, as American Bishop Michael Curry delivered his sermon – the Queen looked a little bemused, the Duchess of Cornwall looked highly amused, Meghan looked thrilled. His style was loud and passionate, far from the quiet restraint we usually see at Royal weddings. The crowds outside loved it and he got a huge round of spontaneous applause.

Plenty of celebrity guests were in the Chapel including Carey Mulligan and her husband Marcus Mumford who is a great friend of Harry’s, Tom Hardy, Serena Williams, the cast of Suits and Idris Elba who secured an invite through his involvement with the Princes Trust charity – he said if it wasn’t for a grant from the Prince’s Trust he wouldn’t have got his start in acting… imagine that!

As they left the Chapel, we saw the couple kiss at the top of the steps… as they made their way to the bottom a cheeky member of the crowd shouted “how about another one!”, Harry laughed and looked at the crowd as if to say you’ll have to wait for that!

Following them out Prince Charles took both the arm of his wife the Duchess of Cornwall but also Meghan’s mother Doria, a lovely touch to show she is now part of the family, too.

The couple’s procession was infront of 100,000 strong crowd – fans had flown over from Canada, California, Malaysia as well as from up and down the UK.

Meghan pointed out a homemade sign from teenager Ayesha who had made a sign saying ‘Congratulations from Sussex’ to Harry as they went past. Also, Meghan’s old drama teacher was watching on the Long Walk, and Meghan spotted her saying ‘oh my god!’.

Elton John performed at the lunch reception and there were speeches from Prince Harry and his father. Guests like Serena Williams, the Clooneys, the Beckhams and Oprah Winfrey enjoyed bowl food of Pea and Mint risotto and Windsor Pork Belly.

Meghan choosing to speak at the more intimate evening gathering of 200 friends and family – a modern end to a traditional with the best of British and American – a perfect blend for a happy couple and very happy crowd.’

In Case You Missed it, Wendy’s Dropped A Mixtape Roasting McDonald’s and Burger King

Last month, Wendy’s changed the game by releasing a five-track mixtape that ruthlessly takes aim at its two biggest haters, McDonald’s and Burger King. On the project, which is titled “We Beefin’,” the restaurant’s famous red-head mascot, aka “Queen Wendy,” proclaims itself as “fast food’s first lady” over trap-style beats. The clever marketing ploy also features album artwork of the chain’s signature square burger patty.

“Rest in Grease,” one of the most popular songs on the EP, takes direct shots at McDonald’s with the lyrics: “You’re No. 1?That’s a joke/Why your ice cream machine always broke?/Why your drive-through always slow?/Why your innovation just can’t grow?”

Wendy’s took it a step further by dedicating an entire song bashing its burger rival’s mascot Ronald McDonald called “Clownin’.” On the track, the artist raps, “You hide from funk / That’s prolly why you go paint your face / My meals are great, people lining up like every day / Leave you in shame, make you run back to Cirque du Soleil / That’s cold game / But what you expect from tryna play / Won’t say no names but you a clown / Get it, OK?”

Another track, titled “Holding It Down,” takes jabs at Burger King with lyrics: “The problem is you didn’t recognize I give no clucks / So wrap it up, turn these chickens to rubber ducks / And BK, don’t think that you got away / You copied my old menu and put it out on replay.”

Since its release on March, 23, the innovative branding strategy has been well-received by social media users. Here’s why:

1. It’s creative

The diss EP goes beyond traditional marketing avenues and gimmicks. Rather than saturating consumers with more advertisements, the project allows Wendy’s to reach its audience through a new medium that gives the company an edge over the competition.

2. It speaks to millennials

The lyrics on “We Beefin’?” speaks the language of young people by using trendy terminology and capitalizing off the entertainment value of rap battle beefs. Plus, it meets the demographic in spaces that they frequent: Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play.

3. It capitalizes on the power of hip-hop as a marketing tool

The mixtape taps into hip-hop’s global multibillion-dollar market, which is often used—and misused—by mainstream corporations. Back in the ’90s, for instance, Sprite collaborated with rappers like Grand Puba and Large Professor for its iconic “Obey Your Thirst” campaign. Amazon also recently collaborated with rap’s reigning queen, Cardi B, to push its brand.

4. It caters to the growing black buy power

According to a 2015 Nielsen study, African American households earning at least $ 75,000 are growing rapidly, while black Americans make up about 20% of the U.S. population. Black buying power cannot be neglected and denied. Rather, it’s a smart move for companies to tap into this market. Pepsi and Doritos, for instance, featured high-profile black entertainers in a series of Super Bowl ads in an effort to reach the audience.

5. It’s on brand

The Wendy’s Twitter account is notorious for its sassy and snarky clapbacks at haters and for trolling competitors. “We Beefin’?” brilliantly personifies the account’s witty personality as a rap savage.

‘Black Panther’: All the Things You Might Have Missed

This article contains SPOILERS for Black Panther.

We’re used to seeing plenty of Easter Eggs liberally sprinkled throughout Marvel movies but on the face of it, there didn’t seem to be many in Black Panther.  However, look closely at their latest offering about the Wakandan superhero, and you’ll find several details and references drawing from the comics and wider pop culture — as well as subtle nods to real-life events. We’ve rounded up the best spots.

James Bond

There are a handful of James Bond parallels in Black Panther. Not only in the espionage thriller aspect of the plotting, but also in the casino setting in Busan in North Korea. Plenty of Bond action has seen the inside of an opulent casino: lavish gambling dens are synonymous with 007.

But perhaps the most obvious homage paid is in Shuri’s similarity to Q and the entire sequence when T’Challa’s tech genius sister is showcasing her new gadgets to her brother. Firstly, we’re entering the innards of a mountain via a crater where Shuri’s lab is located — there are hints of SPECTRE’s volcano lair from You Only Live Twice about this. And then Shuri proceeds to demonstrate her new inventions to T’Challa one by one. There’s also plenty of humour here which would be at home in one of the Bond sequences it imitates.

Back to the Future

When Shuri is showing a new type of footwear to T’Challa during her gadget demo, she says they’re fully automated, “just like the ones in that American movie Baba used to watch.” This is a direct reference to Marty McFly’s futuristic Nike hi-tops seen in Back to the Future II.

Black Panther Party

Parts of the film are set in Oakland, California in 1992. Oakland is the birthplace of the Black Panther movement which began in 1966 and sought to address issues of inequality. The theme is of huge significance in Black Panther.

Panther Goddess Bast

The big panther statue, in the likeness of Bast.

During T’Chaka’s opening speech to his young son T’Challa, he explains the origins of Wakanda, voiceover flashback-style. He refers the Panther Goddess Bast, who is worshipped by Wakandans. According to comic lore, Bast has been worshipped since 10,000 BC by the area’s primitive tribes.

T’Chaka describes the moment a huge meteorite made of Vibranium crashed to the earth and landed in Wakanda.

It was Bast who helped create the first Black Panther after leading a warrior shaman from one of Wakanda’s five warring tribes to the heart-shaped herb – a plant affected by the properties of Vibranium. It bestowed on him superhuman capabilities. “The warrior became king and the first Black Panther,” says T’Chaka. The giant panther statue that has featured prominently in the film marketing and that also serves as a grand entrance to Wakanda is a likeness of Bast.

This king, the first Black Panther, referred to by T’Chaka in his speech, is likely to be the Bashenga in the comics. Although T’Chaka does not name him, his name does crop up later — the Shuri-run Wakanda Design Group is located inside Mount Bashenga.

Man-Ape and Ghekre

Winston Duke as M’Baku.

The leader of the Jabari tribe, M’Baku is referred to as ‘Gorilla’ at one point — a nod to his comic book status as Man Ape. ‘Gorilla’ references the White Gorilla Cult, an underground group whose help M’Baku sought in the comics to help him seize the throne. They worshipped Ghekre the Gorilla God — hence the name. The story in the comics goes that M’Baku re-establishes the outlawed White Gorilla Cult, killing and eating a rare white gorilla which gives him the strength of the species.

One funny moment in the film comes when M’Baku tells Martin Freeman’s Everett Ross to stop speaking lest he feed him to his men. He laughs and it’s apparent he’s joking when he reveals they’re all vegetarian. M’Baku’s clothes also incorporate elements of his comic-book Man Ape costume.

War Rhinos

During the final battle, T’Challa faces off against W’Kabi’s herd of war rhinos. This recalls the Black Panther comic mini-series of 1988 in which T’Challa fights a rhino during the opening panels of the first comic.

Stan Lee Cameo

The Marvel honcho appears in his usual cameo role, as a man at the casino table in Busan. He swipes Everett Ross’s chips while he’s otherwise engaged. “I think I’ll just take these; bring them over here and hold onto them for safekeeping,” he says.

White Wolf

Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/the Winter Soldier.

During the second post-credits sequence, we see Bucky Barnes — aka the Winter Soldier — emerge from a tent in Wakanda, attended to by Shuri. Three children are interfering. They refer to Bucky as the White Wolf. In the comics, the White Wolf is a character who was adopted by King T’Chaka — T’Challa’s father — when his parents were killed in a plane crash. The White Wolf, also known as Hunter, was jealous of his adoptive brother because he knew he wouldn’t be the one to take the throne.

1401 is the number on the door of the apartment that young Erik Killmonger lived in with his uncle in Oakland. It’s also the number of the suite occupied by Timely Publications — the original name of Marvel Publishing — in the Empire State Building after they moved there, following their growing success.

Black Panther is on wide release in the UK from February 13 and hits US screens on February 16.

‘Deadpool 2’ Trailer Breakdown: All the Things You Might Have Missed

Deadpool 2 dropped its first full-length trailer and there is a lot going on. We took our time and combed through the footage to see what exactly stood out, and we think this sequel has got quite a few surprises in store.

Who Are the Villains?

deadpool 2 dmc
Who are the DMC?

We see some soldiers with the letters “DMC” printed on their various pieces of armor. It’s a little funny since this first trailer is called “Deadpool, Meet Cable” and those end up giving us the same initials. Could the DMC be an actual entity or are they just a stand-in for the real evil organization?

There are also a few shots of what seems to be an anti-mutant cult of sorts. Maybe this group is rounding up mutants and imprisoning them? It looks like Deadpool will either get sent to this prison or will have to infiltrate it for some as-yet-unknown purpose.

Deadpool’s Team

deadpool 2 team six pack
Is this the Six Pack?

We know that an X-Force movie is on the way, but do we get a sneak peek at some of those potential members in this trailer for Deadpool 2? There’s a sequence where we see some heroes suiting up for battle and there are a few shots that offer some hints.

That odd-looking double-bladed sword that gets sheathed? Could that be Shatterstar? He’s a character that was also created by Deadpool’s creator, Rob Liefeld. There’s also someone standing behind Domino in that helicopter shot. Is it possibly Solo, another mercenary character from the Marvel universe? And what about Terry Crews? This is the first we’ve seen of him. Is he playing Hammer or George Washington Bridge? If so, it looks like the Six Pack, a team of mercenaries from Marvel comics, might be Deadpool’s superhero team in the sequel.

Premium Cable

deadpool 2 cable
What powers does Cable have?

Obviously, this trailer takes a lot of time to focus on Cable, Deadpool’s consistent partner in a number of Marvel comic books. We get a few glimpses of the dystopian future that Cable comes from. Could this be the same future we saw in X-Men: Days of Future Past?

There is also a shot of Cable utilizing some kind of forcefield against those DMC guards. Is this some piece of future technology he uses? Or does he have some variant of telekinetic abilities like his mother, Jean Grey? Yup, Cable comes from a future where he is the son of Jean Grey and Scott Summers a.k.a. Cyclops. So, it’ll be interesting to see what mutant abilities he might showcase.

There are plenty other Easter eggs and story hints in the trailer, so make sure to check out our breakdown video above to get all the juicy details!

Deadpool 2 will hit theaters on May 18.

Pregnant dolls with removable babies are a sight not to be missed

Sara McGinnis

The Mattel version of Barbie we grew up with may never get pregnant (after all, she’s only dating and not married…), but some of her knockoff friends are starting families.

In the depths of Amazon’s pages can be found a number of Barbie-esque dolls who are not only pregnant, their babies are removable!

The c-section rates are shockingly high.

Appearing as angelic as princesses, the pregnant dolls sport long hair and classic enlarged eyes. Maternity wear consists of a sweet dress embellished with a fabric flower, and sky-high red heels. Of course.

Folks on a deals site in the UK have been chatting about these pregnant dolls, which are surprisingly cheap if you’re willing to wait a few weeks for one to arrive from China. If you’re looking for something faster, they run $ 12.99.

Among throngs of “haha” reactions there is, of course, that one person who comments: “That’s horrid lol, shouldn’t be for little kids =/.”

You know that one tiny friend you have who had the shockingly big baby? There’s a pregnant doll for her kids to play with as well…

Happy shopping, all.

Asteroid that barely missed Earth this week could wreak havoc in the not-so-distant future

asteroid TC4

The asteroid that came “damn close” to slamming into the Earth this week could cause utter devastation several decades down the road, and scientists can’t rule out an eventual collision. The rock, known as 2012 TC4, came within a cosmic hair of our planet just a couple of days ago, slipping by at a distance of just over 27,000 miles, but future safe passes are anything but certain.

TC4 came so close to Earth this time around that it was nearly within the orbit of many of our satellites, and just a fraction of the distance between Earth and the Moon. Based on current models forecasting its path, the rock will perform another near-miss in 2050, and we should be safe for that event, but its return in 2079 is giving scientists a reason to worry.

This anime follows the life of the delinquent Kenji Kazuma as he reluctantly plays the straight man to increasingly eccentric characters when he is forced to join a struggling Game Creation Club. The clip gave a small glimpse into Kazuma’s exasperating everyday life.

What They Missed

While all of the clips shown were charming in their own right and the selection offered a little something for every kind of anime fan, Funimation has such a deep catalogue that it was hard not to feel like something was missing. These titles were surprisingly missing from the Funimation line-up at the panel.

Cowboy Bebop

Sure, a new episode of Cowboy Bebop hasn’t aired in the US in almost 16 years. But, with a live-action adaptation on the horizon, Funimation could have used this perfect opportunity to remind anime fans of how great the original series really is.

One Piece

While there was no shortage of shonen goodness, everyone’s favorite pirate crew was surprisingly absent considering it is one of Funimation’s best simul-dubs. A couple minutes dedicated to the Straw Hat crew could have reminded viewers that fell off of series that the long-running anime series still going strong. Every anime-related panel should always leave a little room for Luffy and the gang.

One of the clips shown at the panel was from the series Blood Blockade Battlefront, which is a pretty fun show that is highly reminiscent of the anime Durarara!!. However, the panel could have improved if they showed a clip from Durarara!! instead. It’s not that BBB is bad, it’s just that it can’t quite stand up to a series that provides as much complex inter-personal drama as Game of Thrones.
