Carissa Moore Takes The 2018 Maui Pro Win After Scoring Perfect 10

WSL PRESS RELEASE

HONOLUA BAY, Maui, Hawaii/USA (Tuesday, November 27, 2018) – The conditions at this year’s Beachwaver Maui Pro, the final stop on the 2018 World Surf League (WSL) Women’s Championship Tour (CT), were all-time and 3X WSL Champion Carissa Moore (HAW) took full advantage, winning over Malia Manuel (HAW) in the Final heat of the season with a 10 point ride.

Moore clinched her 20th CT victory today, her third at Honolua Bay, and rounds out the season at No. 3 on the Jeep Leaderboard.

“It’s so special,” said Moore. “My whole family came over and the waves were perfect. Probably the best competitive day I’ve had in my life and just to finish off the season like that is so good. I’m so in love with everything in my life right now. My support crew, surfing and I’m so grateful for the WSL. I’m speechless right now.”

“It was a dream come true to get a 10,” continued Moore. “There was so much emotion at that point, I just started crying and I can’t thank the locals enough for letting us surf your beautiful wave. I’ll definitely take some time off to soak it in. Nothing beats winning in the ocean in perfect surf. The Surf Ranch was awesome, but this is pretty sweet. I’m just loving what I’m doing and so fired up. I’m excited for next year and stoked for Steph (Gilmore), it’s been a big event and a big year and everyone deserves some time off.”

Manuel finished runner-up for the second consecutive year, after blitzing through her Quarterfinal match-up against an injured Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) and eliminating the newly crowned WSL Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) in the Semifinals before facing Moore in the Final. Today’s result, Manuel’s best of the year, sees her move up to ninth place on the Jeep Leaderboard and secure her place on the CT for 2019.

“It’s such an honor to share the stage with Steph (Gilmore) and Carissa (Moore), two of the best surfers of my generation,” Manuel said. “I’m happy to be here and having an event at home, and having my friends from Kauai here is so lovely. I’m feeling a lot of good vibes right now. I have a new spark in me now that I’ve qualified for the Tour next year. I’ve got a lot of plans. Sally (Fitzgibbons) had a tough day yesterday but she’s an animal. I knew she was going to want to surf even with the injury. We’re both just looking forward to next year and hopefully, we will both be in the World Title conversation together.”

7X World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) receives her World Title Trophy at the 2018 Beachwaver Maui Pro at Honolua Bay, Maui, Hawaii, USA.

Although eliminated in the Semifinals, 7X World Champion Gilmore will come back on the 2019 Championship Tour ranked No. 1 on the Jeep Leaderboard.
“Malia (Manuel) is always on the best waves,” said Gilmore. “I tried to fight my way back but it’s all good. I’ve had an incredible couple of days. This year has been beyond anything I could’ve dreamed of. Surfing is so fun. People always ask me why I’m smiling so much but if they did what I did they would know why.”

God is so good. We are blessed and doing well.
My heart is so full at the abundance of love for our family! We love you all.

Kenya Moore Confirms Preeclampsia Diagnosis, Will Give Birth Early [Photo]

The tests are in and Kenya Moore does, in fact, have preeclampsia.

According to a note posted by the former ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ star she’ll have to deliver Baby Daly earlier than expected — although she didn’t specify when.

Earlier this week Kenya revealed that she gained 17 pounds in one week due to possible preeclampsia. She weighed 200 pounds in September.

According to Mayo Clinic, preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication “characterized by high blood pressure and signs of damage to another organ system, most often the liver and kidneys.”

It typically develops suddenly in women who previously had normal blood pressure after the 20-week pregnancy mark. Besides the sudden weight gain and swelling, symptoms may include severe headaches, shortness of breath, nausea, upper abdominal pain, blurred vision, impaired liver and kidney function and decreased urine output.

We’re praying for a safe and healthy delivery.

Demi Moore Opens Up About Her Recovery: ‘I Was Spiraling Down a Path of Real Self-Destruction’

Demi Moore was named woman of the year at the Peggy Albrecht Friendly House’s 29th Annual Awards Luncheon on Saturday — and she took the opportunity to get candid about her own recovery.

Friendly House offers a “safe, structured and supportive home-like environment” for women recovering from substance use, according to its website. During her acceptance speech at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, the actress, 55, explained why the non-profit’s mission strikes a chord with her.

“I feel like there are defining moments in our lives that shape who we are and the direction we go, and early in my career, I was spiraling down a path of real self-destruction, and no matter what successes I had, I just never felt good enough,” explained Moore, who noted that she was “grateful” for her supportive daughters with ex Bruce Willis, Rumer, 30, Scout, 27, and Tallulah, 24.

“I had absolutely no value for myself,” Moore continued. “And this self-destructive path, it very quickly … brought me to a real crisis point. And it wasn’t clear at the time the reason — maybe it was divine intervention — but two people who I barely knew stepped up and took a stand for me, and they presented me with an opportunity.”

“In fact, it was more like an ultimatum … unless I was dead, that I better show up,” she said. “They gave me a chance to redirect the course of my life before I destroyed everything. Clearly, they saw more of me than I saw of myself. And I’m so grateful because without that opportunity, without their belief in me, I wouldn’t be standing here today.”

Moore went to rehab for drug and alcohol addiction in the mid-1980s. In January 2012, after months of partying and drastic weight loss, Moore collapsed into convulsions at her L.A. home and was hospitalized before going to rehab for addiction and an eating disorder, sources told PEOPLE at the time.

“I know in a moment of great struggle for me, I reached out to a wise teacher and expressed my fear that I wasn’t good enough,” Moore concluded her speech. “And she said, ‘You will never be good enough but you can know the value of your worth. Put down the measuring stick.’ So today, I put down the measuring stick and I thank you for this beautiful acknowledgment and the opportunity to know the value of my worth.”

“I think the root of what really fulfills us in life is being of service,” Moore shared with reporters at the event.

Soleil Moon Frye gushed about the “special, brilliant, beautiful, incredible, enlightening” Moore at the luncheon.

“She listens, and she shared so much wisdom, and she’s been in every one of my birthing rooms and helped deliver every one of my babies,” the former Punky Brewster actress told reporters. “She has always shown up for me, and I love her with all my heart.”
