Nike Gets Naomi Osaka, Adidas Moves on With Beyoncé

Tennis superstar Naomi Osaka is now playing on Team Nike — although some were looking for her to go a different direction in the ultracompetitive world of sports marketing deals.
Nike revealed its partnership with Japanese-born Osaka, the world’s number-one women’s single tennis player, on Thursday. But fans will have to wait until the Stuttgart Grand Prix, which begins April 22, to see the 21-year-old tennis player on the courts in Nike gear.
The news came as a bit of a surprise as many thought Osaka was courting a new corporate beau.
In September, after Osaka nabbed the U.S. Open title from Serena Williams, Osaka was rumored to be in talks with rival Adidas for an apparel endorsement worth an estimated 6.5 million pounds, or $ 8.5 million. She already had a deal with Adidas, but the rumored arrangement would have made the tennis star the highest-paid female athlete ever to sign with Adidas. Osaka was also seen sporting Adidas apparel as recently as January while competing in the Australian Open.
While Nike nabbed Osaka, the jilted Adidas had some blockbuster news of its own — which it chose to release the same day the Nike-Osaka tie-up was announced.

Ben Foden moves on from wife Una Healy with another Irish beauty as he flies glamorous gym-goer Miriam Murphy to New York

LOVE rat Ben Foden has moved on from ex-wife Una Healy with another Irish beauty, The Sun can reveal.

The England ace, 33, who admitted to cheating on Una, is now dating glamorous gym-goer Miriam Murphy and has even flown her to New York to watch his rugby matches.

Ben Foden has moved on from ex-wife Una Healy with Irish beauty Miriam Murphy

Ben announced his divorce from Una on dating app Bumble last August where he stated in his bio he was “heading stateside” and “If you’re uptight and bossy I’m not for you.”

A source revealed: “Ben and Miriam have grown very close after meeting through mutual friends.

“They have been able to get to know each other in New York away from prying eyes and have enjoyed going to bars, playing beer pong and doing workouts together at the gym.

“Miriam even cheered Ben on at one of his rugby matches.

Miriam, who’s an Irish city worker, bears resemblance to his ex Una – who’s also had both red and blonde hair
The beauty has posted a string of revealing gym snaps on her Instagram profile

“Ben has always said he wanted to have a bit of fun after his divorce and he’s definitely been doing that in New York.”

The father-of-two confessed to being unfaithful during an interview in February saying: “I was the one who committed adultery.”

He continued: “But at the same time, it wasn’t the only reason for our divorce to go through. It’s not ideal but we’re very amicable, we’re getting through it.

“We’re not the first people in the world to get divorced. We’ve got two little kids we adore.”

Ben left his marriage and rugby career in England to play for Ruby United New York, where he’s since become acquainted with new love interest Miriam.

The former couple ended their marriage last August after Una confronted Ben over his cheating
He confessed to being unfaithful in February months after he was accused of having an affair with PR girl Becky Milne

Saturdays singer Una dumped Ben after discovering he had a fling with PR girl Becky Milne – and bedded her just days after she had their second child.

She has since told of her pain in a heartbreak track, singing: “You made me feel like I was going crazy, believing all those lies that you fed me.

“Every word you said to me was empty, broken every promise that you made me, no, we can’t save this.”

The star has moved on with former Irish hurler David Breen.

Walmart Is Planning to Develop Tablets as the Retailer Makes Moves Into the Tech Industry

It looks like Walmart is planning to start making its own tablets. In a product application with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, the retailer included photos of the device, which will be made by a Chinese supplier and run on Google’s Android operating system, Bloomberg reports.

The tablets will be sold under Walmart’s ONN brand, the photos show. Walmart has not yet released information about the cost of the device or when it will hit stores, but a spokesperson for the retailer confirmed to both Bloomberg and CNBC that “a private brand tablet is in the works.”

Tablet shipments fell 6.2% last year, as the smartphone market continued to grow. The top-selling tablets were Apple’s iPad, followed by Samsung Electronics, and Amazon.com Inc.

Even so, Bloomberg reports that some retailers have successfully developed kid-friendly tablets, that are also more affordable than Apple’s line of iPads. And Walmart hopes to do the same.

The retailer has been making moves into the tech industry, as it focuses on home goods and electronics moving forward. Walmart has nonetheless struggled to develop its image as a more “modern” company, while its biggest competitor Amazon has been an innovative force with its own electronics.

Walmart was represented as a tech company at this year’s South by Southwest conference in Austin with Chief Technology Officer Jeremy King giving a presentation about some of the new technology in its stores, CNBC reports.

“For years now … I’ve wanted people to understand we are building a tech organization,” King told CNBC. “I’ve got a machine learning team. We have some of the best apps in the world.”

Kristen Stewart Has Been ‘Brutal’ To Stella Maxwell As She Moves On With Sarah Dinkin

Kristen Stewart is loving her new romance with Sarah Dinkin and her ex Stella Maxwell can’t stand it. An insider revealed that Stewart and Maxwell agreed to keep their dating lives private following their split, but the Twilight alum ignored the pact and went public with Dinkin right away.

Maxwell and Stewart have had their share of problems, but the model is reportedly shocked by how Stewart has acted.

“[Maxwell has] been knocked sideways at how brutal Kristen’s been,” a source shared.

A source told Radar Online that Stewart and Maxwell have many mutual friends, who are now choosing sides because they refuse to talk anymore. One friend even believes that Maxwell might make a move on Robert Pattinson just to get back at Stewart.

From Stewart’s perspective, she reportedly believes that Maxwell was using her to get famous. This is why she had no problem going public with Dinkin as soon as their romance heated up.

Her friends tried to warn her about Maxwell’s intentions, but she did not believe them until things turned south.

Stewart and Maxwell have not been seen together since October. The actress is believed to have gone public with Dinkin a week after she officially ended things with Maxwell.

So far, Stewart’s romance with Dinkin is going strong. Sources claim the two spend every day together and that Stewart is genuinely having fun with the stylist.

With things going so well, Stewart is already joking about moving in together.

This week, Stewart and Dinkin were spotted walking their dogs in Los Angeles. The pair rocked similar outfits for the outing, which consisted of white sweatshirts and sweatpants. The two completed their look with sunglasses while Stewart added a hat for good measure.

Prior to Dinkin and Maxwell, Stewart dated Alicia Cargile, Soko and St. Vincent.

She also dated Pattinson for four years before their relationship ended amid her affair with Rupert Sanders.

Kristen Stewart has not commented on her new romance.

Usher Moves To Finalize Second Divorce

They parted ways last year, but it’s only now that Usher Raymond and Grace Miguel have formally moved forward  to dissolve their 3 year marriage.

Specifically, according to court records,  Usher, 40, made the filing on Friday in a Georgia court. According The Blast, the entertainer is employing the same attorney he used for his previous custody fight with ex-wife, Tameka Foster.

Court documents point to  December 24, 2017 as the couple’s date of separation. They also say they reached a confidential settlement agreement … so it’s all finished and just waiting on a judge to sign off.

“After much thought and consideration we have mutually decided to separate as a couple.”

The statement continued …

“We remain deeply connected, loving friends who will continue supporting each other through the next phases of our lives. The enormous amount of love and respect that we have for each other will only increase as we move forward.”

Usher and Grace Miguel, 49,  originally met while working in the music industry, and she also served as his manager. The marriage produced no children.

In related news, a Philadelphia songwriter who claims he was cut out of profits and credit for his work on Usher’s “Bad Girl” has been awarded more than $ 44 million in damages in a lawsuit against the song’s other co-writers.

via Billboard:

A jury  awarded the sum to Daniel Marino. His former co-writer William Guice was ordered to pay $ 6.75 million in compensatory damages, and $ 20.25 million in punitive damages.

Also last week Destro Music Productions, owned by co-defendant Dante Barton, agreed to pay Marino $ 17.35 million. That brings his total award to $ 44.35 million.

The lawsuit stemmed from Marino’s work on a song called “Club Girl.” Marino says he created most of the song, including its guitar hook, tempo and chord progression.

The song was recorded by Usher in 2004 and renamed “Bad Girl.” And in case you’re wondering, Usher wasn’t named in the suit.

Q&A: Smart Year End Financial Moves

With unemployment at historic lows, rising wages and consumer confidence at an 18 year high consumers are understandably in good cheer and ready to go out and spend this holiday season.

But for you, the thrill of the deal can quickly turn in to despair over the debt if you go overboard with your holiday gift giving.

Here’s how to keep your budget in check during the holiday shopping season.

What’s the best way to approach holiday shopping if we don’t want things to get out of hand?

Well, if there’s one thing that I hope people ask for, and get, this Christmas, it’s discipline. All the budgeting “tips and tricks” in the world won’t help you if you can’t control yourself.

Yet, relying on willpower alone won’t be enough to get the job done. You need a system.

Here’s what I suggest:

  1. Build a Budget– This sounds simple, but on one likes to do this. You have to go into shopping season with a set amount that you’re committed to not outspend. When you do this, be sure to include ALL of your costs such as wrapping, shipping, travel, etc.

  1. Save All Year– You do realize that Christmas happens at the same time every year, right? So why do you seem so surprised when Black Friday rolls around and you haven’t set aside any money for gifts?

Americans are expected to spend $ 1000 on average during the holiday shopping season.  That’s $ 80/month or $ 20.00/week you should save in advance.

3Create a Separate Account – Don’t keep your “gift” money in the same account as your “bill” money. Open a free checking account or put money onto a prepaid debit card that will only be used for your holiday shopping. When it’s gone, it’s gone.

4. Never Use Credit – Buying something on sale, but using credit to do so and paying the minimum each month totally defeats the purpose of getting the deal in the first place. Only use your credit card if you’re getting points or rewards and you’re going to pay it off in full when the bill comes.

Ok, but what if we didn’t save up much money for Christmas, what should we do then?

In that case, it’s time to think about generating some extra cash. Luckily, since there’s so much spending going on during the holiday season, there should be lots of opportunities to do this.

For example you can:

Convert Old Gift Cards – Check your wallet for unused or partially used gift cards. Use the balance for gifts, or use a site like CardCash.com to convert those balances to cash.

Sell Your Junk! – Go through your garage and your closet to find things that still have tags or haven’t been used in a while.  Sell these things on eBay, Poshmark, etc.

Donate Items – Donate the things you can’t sell to Goodwill, etc.  You’ll get the advantage of the tax deduction, which may put extra cash in your pocket at tax time.

Ok, what if people are expecting expensive gifts?

Look, you have to take charge and set the expectations up front.

With Your Kids – This is a great time to discuss needs vs. wants and priorities with your kids.  They may not be able to get everything they want, so give them a say in what is most important to them.

With Your Family – Perhaps set up a Secret Santa gift exchange where each family member only has to buy one gift. Try secretsanta.com or Elfster to set up your exchange.

With Yourself – Buying great presents won’t make you a better friend, spouse or parent. Have a real discussion about what the most important people in your life really want, and you might find that it may not cost you anything at all.

Millennial Moves: How to Build a Digital Marketing Career

There are few people disciplined enough to teach themselves the inner workings of internet tools and turn their learning into a career. Interpersonal communication has become somewhat of an anomaly. As interactions become more digitized, there are even fewer people capable of creating relationships online that translate into practical connections. If you’re looking for a rare example of someone who’s done both then look no further than Rebecca Ijeoma, better known as Dimplez. Dimplez, the founder of IJEOMA Agency, built a digital marketing career working with Capitol Records, SXSW, Ne-Yo, and more. Capitalizing on timing, transparency, skill expansion, and opportunity brought her a career with limitless growth potential.

Capitalize on Timing

“I first got my start in undergrad, while at the University of Arizona. I began as a blogger and didn’t realize that I was onto something until ’07-’08 when some of my blogs started getting syndicated on Global Grind,” she says. “The traction my writing was gaining piqued my interest. I wanted to create more, and cover more—and wound up teaching myself photography. I eventually learned everything that went into creating and maintaining a site, including web and graphic design.”

By 2009, MissDimplez.com came to life. It served as Dimplez’ digital real estate where she could provide her perspective on cultural moments. The year 2009 was the dawn of the creativepreneur era, a time where people were turning their creative abilities into cash. Using tools like WordPress, Tumblr, and Twitter anyone could build their own site, and share content to the masses. Major outlets were syndicating independent work in a mad grab for content. It turned bloggers, graphic designers, photographers, and videographers into authoritative voices in culture. Dimplez took full advantage by teaching herself transferable skills, making her a prime candidate for opportunities in the newly formed job market of digital marketing.

Creating Community and Opportunity

Instead of shielding her learning curve from the world, Dimplez used transparency to build community. She shared the good and bad of her website building experience. It connected her with people who needed her newly acquired expertise, which turned into paid work.

“I was designing sites, creating graphics, and maintaining servers for artists and media personalities alike. People who had never met me in person got to see and trust my skills and abilities based off of what I presented and was able to create digitally.”

Employment Is Not The Enemy

Being your own boss is a millennial’s dream. When Capital Records offered Dimplez a digital marketing manager position, she happily took the job.

“Stepping into a role or position at a company you do not own is not a step back, nor does it take away from who you are as a creative,” says Dimplez. “It actually serves as an opportunity to learn a broader perspective and hone a skill set that will only benefit you in the long run.”

“Effective storytelling is the distinction between gaining a fan or just gaining a follower. Fans make an emotional investment in you, your career, or your art. A lifelong fan is worth more currency in theory and actuality, than 1,000 followers that may never truly buy into you.”

Dimplez represents what creative work and building a career in digital marketing is all about: being a self-starter and seeing the lesson in every working scenario.

Millennial Moves: PR Professional Builds Cigars and Whiskey Experiential Event

Millennials are creating and establishing experiential event spaces to increase engagement, awareness, knowledge-building, and most importantly, including the “culture.”  At 27 years old, Kerry Smalls is a director at public relations firm The Chamber Group, and creator of lifestyle event Cigars & Whiskey. In an interview, he discusses his career trajectory and what it took to build his event brand.

Describe the concept behind your brand Cigars & Whiskey.

The sole basis for the creation of Cigars & Whiskey is the idea of connection. Through living and working in New York, I realized how many people were in my network, and also, who they were connected to but would never have the opportunity to meet because of their differing careers and personal lives. My aim is to bring different minds together to forge nontraditional relationships while enjoying a nontraditional luxury experience that millennials do not often experience: cigars and whiskey—a personal favorite.

Cigars and whiskey are associated with financial gain, wealth, business, and the pleasantries of life—things young millennials, specifically my community of African Americans, are not traditionally exposed to if they don’t go out seeking it and that’s an issue. I want to be able to provide that atmosphere for those people—an atmosphere that inspires someone to change their life.

As a millennial entrepreneur how important is an experiential event to the culture?

Experiential events are key, especially to culture. In fact, I can’t see a brand reaching their maximum potential without some type of tangible activation or experience that the consumer can latch on to in order to connect the dots to the product or service that is being offered. We live an age where, thanks to social media, visuals mean more than anything. People want something they can feel, touch, and see for themselves.

How has your job, as head of a celebrity public relations firm, prepared you for your latest venture?

My job, at least nowadays, is connecting the culture to the masses. Creating untraditional scenarios and narratives in order to move a brand from point A to point B. In order to do that effectively, I have to at all times know what is going on in the streets. My career in the business has taught me strategy, it’s taught me timing, it’s taught me execution. But most importantly, it’s forced me to stay ahead of trends and understand the generation that I essentially am marketing to and inviting to my events.

How does Cigars & Whiskey differ from other events geared toward millennials? If you create the environment, the people will come. Simple as put. We don’t want Cigars & Whiskey to just be seen as a party or mixer. Yes, it is social and the events are being created so that you have fun but we want our guests to walk away feeling more inspired than when they entered. We want to send our guests on their way with new relationships and experiences that they can utilize for the betterment of their personal and professional lives.

What tips can you provide to any up-and-coming millennial entrepreneurs who wish to work in your field?

There are many tips and tricks that I’ve learned that keep me going but the few I focus on the most lately are the following:

  • Work hard, at whatever it is you do and expect nothing in return.
  • Build with like-minded people. As you get older, everyone takes up space. Surround yourself with people that offer something to your life both professionally and personally. You will see that this is effective when you are taking that first leap of faith with your business.
  • Take nothing personally when doing business. You will get hurt when things don’t pan out the way you’d wish they had.
  • Consider your pros and cons but don’t ever let the cons deter you away from making an actual decision. Usually, that means that the move is risky, and typically, that is where you could see the most reward.
  • Balance. Don’t go at that thing so hard that you burn yourself out and jeopardize your creative thinking. Self-care is real. Find enjoyment in your work, even if in small bits. And outside of work, learn to relax. Turn it off. Have fun. The second you stop having fun, you need to go back and re-evaluate why you started doing it in the first place. In that space is where you find the inspiration to keep going.

Millennial Moves: Danielle Jeter is Building a Tribe of Women in Media in Philly

Unable to find a job after graduating from Spelman College was discouraging for Danielle P. Jeter, especially because she had done everything right. Not only was she accepted into the prestigious HBCU, but she also became a standout student and excelled during her academic career. “I had a whole résumé of experience. I studied abroad. I interned every summer. I got jobs. I worked while I was in college. I was a student leader. I was on the dance team,” Jeter, 29, told BLACK ENTERPRISE, adding that she often traveled off campus to network with working professionals. And, on top of that, the double major launched her own events planning business during her senior year. “So for me, I was like, ‘why can’t I get a job?’ I prepared. I did what was told of me to do,” she said.

Change of Plans

The reality of being jobless when she graduated from the Atlanta-based institution in Spring 2010 forced her to recalculate her post-college plans. “My vision for my life was to go from Atlanta to Los Angeles.” When that didn’t happen, she reluctantly returned to her hometown of Philadelphia and focused on growing her own business. “I always had a vision of being an entrepreneur. I knew that I was going to be a business owner, [but] I didn’t know I was going to do it so young.”

Jeter worked to expand her company, AOI Events & PR, into a full-service communications firm that executes creative marketing campaigns for clients. “When I came back home to Philly, I added on different services, including public relations, community relations, digital marketing, and strategic development.” Under AOI, she also started an internship and mentoring program called Pipeline that has helped dozens of high school students gain hands-on experience in the media field.

Representation Matters

Jeter’s career trajectory, however, took another change of course in 2013 when she attended a documentary film screening about Philadelphia’s local art scene. The lack of representation in the film was so glaring that it compelled her to take action to better represent women creatives in her community. “There was only one woman represented in the film,” which profiled Philadelphia-based artists, she told BE. “I, personally, was offended by that because I’m an artist and I know plenty of artists in the city. Philadelphia [has a] large art and culture scene.” The disappointing film motivated her to create an event to showcase the work of female artists and professionals in media and entertainment. “That sparked something in me to go ahead and create something to remind women to own their voices.”

She reached out to other women working in media within her network, student organizations, and local media outlets and organized a workshop at Temple University within 60 days. Although small, the women’s empowerment event made a great impact on its attendees and inspired her to expand the half-day workshop into an annual conference for women working in media, entertainment, and the arts. “That was so powerful. People really loved their experiences and they started to ask me ‘what’s next?’”

Jeter also launched Women in Media Global Network (WIM Global), an organization that serves to empower and equip women who work or aspire to work in the media industry through year-round meetups and networking events. Today, the organization operates chapters in Philadelphia and Atlanta.

Last month, the org held its sixth annual Women in Media conference at the International House in Philadelphia, which was centered on the theme, “limitless: beyond the glass ceiling.” It was co-emceed by diversity and inclusion expert Kimberly S. Reed and included a diverse mix of women making waves in the industry such as radio personality Roxy Romeo. Jeter says her favorite highlight was her fireside chat with The Breakfast Club co-host Angela Yee. “Angela Yee telling her story reminded me that there are no overnight success stories and you have to consistently work extremely hard to be great,” she said.

Day one of the conference ended with a “Women In Sports VIP Dinner” and panel held at the Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies, and featured female executives who work for the MLB team. That inspiration seemed to seep onto the field as the Phillies beat the Miami Marlins in an exciting home game later that night.

Day two of the conferenced featured a panel session, sponsored by BLACK ENTERPRISE, of millennial women working in corporate media outlets like BET Networks and ABC’s local news affiliate. That was followed by breakout sessions. The day ended with a reception and informal session featuring male media professionals who support women in media.

Jeter thanked members of WIM for the success of the two-day summit, noting that it’s a testament of how well women can work together. “Working behind the scenes with the Women In Media Leadership Council Team Members [kept] me inspired and motivated especially during times of difficulty. To see a dedicated team of 15 women selflessly give of their time, treasure, talents, and resources to invest in other women proved many negative stereotypes of women in general wrong.”

Another rewarding moment from the event was seeing how it encouraged and impacted others. “To learn that attendees walked away with valuable jewels, tangible resources, new relationships, education, and inspiration made all of our hard work over the last year worth it,” said Jeter. “It also proved that our WIM Global platform is needed.”
