Jessie J: ‘I Am So Disappointed and Embarrassed’ Over Jenna Dewan Comparisons

Jessie J is not here for your comparisons. The “Domino” singer addressed the attention she’s received as of late from fans who would liken her to boyfriend Channing Tatum’s ex, Jenna Dewan, on social media.

“I rarely, but sometimes see that my name is involved in stories online that I do not agree to,” the Singer 2018 winner, 30, began a lengthy Instagram post on Friday, November 16. “I often ignore them at 99% of the time it is something that doesn’t serve any positivity to speak on. However there is a story I have seen be written over and over again in the past few weeks that talks about myself being directly compared to another beautiful woman regarding our looks and people picking who they think is prettier. I am here to talk about the headline and the way the story has been written, I have continuously tried to find something positive from this article … I am yet to.”

She continued, “Who feels good from this story? I know I don’t … Is picking who is prettier and then continuing to say why a good activity for women to participate in? No … I am so disappointed and embarrassed that my name is even involved. It’s not something I stand for, at all.”

The musician shared why the comments bothered her so much, adding, “I spent so much of my childhood trying to be comfortable in my skin just like so many other little girls … I am a woman that supports ALL Women. I am a woman that loves ALL women and will not stand quietly when the media is teaching young girls to constantly compare who they think is prettier.”

“Be sensitive with your words. Be kind with your words. You have no idea what they can do to someone,” she wrote in closing.”

Dewan, 37, also made her thoughts on the matter known, responding to her ex’s paramour in an Instagram Story on Friday. “Amen Jessie! Yes!!!!” she wrote. “Women Women for women all the way. No need for negativity. Let’s live in a world where we support each other and lift each other up. Like I said before, positive vibes all the way. Nothing but respect.”

Us Weekly exclusively broke the news that Jessie J was dating Tatum, 38, in October. “It’s new, casual and they’re having fun together,” a source told Us at the time.

The Magic Mike star gushed over his lady love publicly for the first time after her concert at Royal Albert Hall in London on Tuesday, November 13.

“This woman just poured her heart out on stage at the Royal Albert Hall,” he wrote on Instagram. “Whoever was there got to witness something special. Wow.”

Earlier Friday, Jessie also made it clear that she doesn’t care what others think of her personal decisions with an Instagram Story. “I have noticed. Some people convince themselves I’m failing, or making the wrong decisions ect by the expectation they have for me, or what they would do if they were me,” she wrote. “You are not me. I often don’t want what you want for me for me. Lol.”

“I am happy with where I am,” she continued. “Who I am. What I am doing and how I am learning You are actually creating your own disappointment through something I never said I wanted. Let me live. Focus on you.”

She Quit Her Victoria’s Secret Job Over Exec’s Trans Insult

Jocelyn Ratzer had just finished her second day at Victoria’s Secret when she got the news that would make her quit.

Leaving her morning shift at an Orlando shopping center on Saturday, the 24-year-old salesperson spotted an interview with Ed Razek—the chief marketing officer of Victoria’s Secret’s parent company—that made her feel sick. In an interview with Vogue, the executive dismissed the idea of casting trans or plus-size models in the company’s annual fashion show, saying the controversial procession of scantily clad models was meant to be “a fantasy.”

“It’s a 42-minute entertainment special. That’s what it is,” Razek said. “It is the only one of its kind in the world, and any other fashion brand in the world would take it in a minute.”

DWTS’ John Schneider Gets Emotional Over His Strained Relationship with His Children

John Schneider is hoping he can mend his strained relationship with his three children.

In an exclusive clip of Monday’s Dancing with the Stars, the Dukes of Hazzard alum, who played Bo Duke on the comedy series from 1979-85, gets emotional while explaining how country music and DWTS has affected his life.

“What country music means to me is it’s three chords and the truth and it shines a light on things that happen in everyday life that are wonderful, not so wonderful, and that are heart-wrenching,” Schneider, 58, says.

“I’ve been going through a divorce now for four years and it’s awful. The worst part about it is that it’s wedged itself in between my three adult children and myself. Nothing I can do except hope one day one of my kids will call me up or show up. I look in the crowd every Monday thinking maybe tonight, maybe tonight.”

“If it weren’t for this music and now Dancing with the Stars, I don’t think I can survive it,” he admits. “It gives me great joy at a time where I desperately needed it.”

Earlier on in the season, Schneider briefly spoke towards his relationship with his children. whom he is not on speaking terms with.

“I’m hoping that I will do my family proud, I’ll do my love over there proud,” said Schneider told host Erin Andrews, referencing his girlfriend, Alicia, and added, “and maybe my children will speak to me again.”

After 21 years of marriage, Schneider’s estranged wife Elvira “Elly” Schneider filed for divorce in Los Angeles County on Nov. 14, 2014. She cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split, according to court documents.

In September 2016, Schneider — he shares adult children Leah, Chasen, and Karis with Elvira — was ordered to pay his ex $ 18,911 every month, TMZ reported.

But in June, Schneider was sentenced to three days behind bars in the Los Angeles County Jail in June for failure to pay more than $ 150,000 in owed alimony payments to Elvira. The actor was released on the same day as his initial booking because of California’s overcrowded prison system, but his legal woes were not done with that.

Schneider was also ordered to serve an additional 120 hours behind bars for contempt, but that sentence was suspended by the court on the condition that he fulfills a four-part list of conditions, including filing back taxes to help clear title to their property in Apple Valley so that it could be transferred to her, paying his ex half of his owed earnings from Maven Entertainment, and offering certain financial disclosures before the end of the year.

Dancing with the Stars airs Mondays (8 p.m. ET) on ABC.

These Millennials Have Invested in Real Estate All Over the Country. Here’s How

At just 35 and 29, Christopher and Meghan Miller are semi-retired.

The couple, with their infant son, Ben, recently quit their jobs and moved from Columbia, Maryland, to Berryville, Virginia — a town of approximately 4,000.

Their new home is perched on two acres. Across the street is a horse farm. Down the road is an organic farm where Christopher harvests produce twice a week. He’s paid in vegetables, which Meghan, an enthusiastic cook, plans meals around.

“We’ve just embarked on this semi-retired adventure of doing work we really enjoy and value instead of doing work that just has the highest salary or because we have to,” Christopher said.

The couple has worked hard to afford this new phase of life. Christopher, a former systems engineer, and Meghan, a former high school English teacher, built up their savings and sources of passive income, mostly through real estate investments.

In addition to four rental properties, the couple has invested in a diversified portfolio of real estate projects across the country — from Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles — through an automated investment experience.

“I don’t have to manage them; I don’t have to do the work to improve the properties; I don’t have to find tenants, evict tenants,” Christopher says.

Unlike traditional real estate investments, the Millers back these national building projects through an online platform called Fundrise. Since 2016, Fundrise has paid dividends each quarter. (Note: As with any investment, past performance isn’t indicative of future results.)

Living off of Passive Income

Real estate piqued Christopher’s interest about 12 years ago when he read “Rich Dad Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter. The book emphasizes the importance of investing, particularly in real estate.

In 2006, while still in college, Christopher purchased a rental home in Elkridge, Maryland.

“It was kind of a roller coaster,” he says. “At first I thought, ‘Man, this investing in real estate is really easy.’”

The first property’s value had increased 20%, so he purchased another house in 2008.

Then the market crashed.

By 2009, he was under water on both properties. He had purchased the first home with an interest-only mortgage. “It was a really bad loan that plagued the investment even more after the market crash,” he said.

After recruiting roommates, he lived in one house for free for about five years. (He also met Meghan in that neighborhood, so it all worked out.)

Still, he owed money.

In 2013, Christopher started feeling less gun shy about the real estate market, so he purchased a third rental. Then, a few years later, he and Meghan purchased several flip properties.

“It’s been a wild ride,” he says. “The passive income and making money while I sleep — I love that about real estate.”

In April 2016, he found an easier way to invest in real estate — one that didn’t require sweat equity, tenants and all the horror stories that come with owning rentals.

He could drop in as little as $ 500 and invest in properties across the U.S. through an online investment platform called Fundrise.

“I view our investments in Fundrise as something even more passive than the rental properties we own,” Christopher says.

Invest in Real Estate Online

A man looks at a laptop while sitting at a table in his home.
Miller uses a laptop to check his Fundrise account at his home in Berryville, Va. Ting Shen for The Penny Hoarder

Fundrise was launched in 2012 by two real estate investors and brothers. It aims to give everyone a chance to invest directly in real estate. It cuts the unnecessary middlemen, enabling it to offer low-fee diversified real estate investments to anyone with a computer. (There’s a 0.85% annual asset management fee and a 0.15% annual investment advisory fee.)

More than 200,000 Fundrise members are on the platform today, and Fundrise has invested in approximately $ 2.5 billion in real estate since its 2015 launch. Think of it like this: Fundrise is crowdfunding for new real estate projects across the country. Investors can hop in with as little as $ 500 or much more.

Taking Some of the Complexity out of Real Estate Investing

A smiling man holding a crate and wearing a cowboy hat stands by a tractor.
Miller carries freshly picked tomatoes at a neighbor’s farm. He earns a share of the produce for his family by helping with the harvest. Ting Shen for The Penny Hoarder

Investing in anything involves risk. But since 2014, Fundrise has seen historical returns of 8.7% to 12.4%.

For Christopher and Meghan, the online experience is a lot less weighty than those traditional real estate investments.

For example, remember the housing market crash of 2008 and how Christopher found himself under water on his properties? He finally sold one of those a few months ago — after 12 years of hanging on. He said it almost wasn’t worth the effort.

With Fundrise, Christopher can easily invest in real estate through the online platform, which puts his money into various income-producing properties, leaving him with a diverse portfolio of investments — from apartment renovations in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to stabilized apartments in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Making Real Estate Investing More Accessible — Even in L.A.

Christopher and Meghan follow the progress of each project they’ve invested money into through Fundrise, thanks to regular email updates. Each email features photos and videos, updating them on new, completed and in-progress projects.

“The emails help remind you that you’re actually investing in something real,” Christopher says. “Like a condo in D.C. or a single-family home in L.A.”

Getting Started With Fundrise

Christopher receives automatic payments directly into his checking account.

Because Christopher and Meghan don’t need the money right now, they can use the software to easily reinvest any dividends they may receive, putting it right back into projects.

The Fundrise Starter Portfolio is currently open to all investors and requires $ 500 to start. There’s a 90-day satisfaction period, so if you’re not happy, Fundrise redeems your investment at the original amount*. If you invest $ 1,000 or more, you can select one of the advanced plans –– Supplemental Income, Balances Investing or Long-Term Growth.

Moving Forward and Affording a Semi-Retired Lifestyle

As Christopher and Meghan settle into their new home in Berryville, Virginia, they find ways to piece together their income without full-time jobs.

Christopher does part-time landscaping and tree work on the side, which results in profitable firewood. Meghan has plans to write freelance. They also have a steady income stream thanks to their rental properties.

They say they’ll take out money from their investments if they need, but so far that hasn’t been necessary.

Chrissy Teigen Hits Back at Mom-Shamer Over Breastfeeding Question

Chrissy Teigen doesn’t have time for the haters — especially when it comes to her kids with husband John Legend.

The Lip Sync Battle cohost hit back at a mom-shamer who tried to slam her for not breastfeeding in the comment section of the “All of You” crooner’s Instagram post on Monday, November 5.

“Wild scene backstage at @nbcthevoice,” Legend, 39, captioned a pic of Teigen, 32, bottle-feeding their 5-month-old son, Miles, while the model’s mom, Vilailuck Teigen, snuggled with their 2-year-old daughter, Luna.

One commenter was quick to ask, “You no longer breastfeed?” to which Teigen hilariously responded.

“John never breastfed Miles,” the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model quipped in response, referring to the fact the comment was made under her husband’s picture.

Teigen is no stranger to clapping back at social media trolls who enjoy picking on her. Earlier this year, the Utah native put a hater in their place after the woman made a comment about her appearance less than four months after she gave birth to her second child.

“You look beautiful but you should grow your hair long again,” a follower wrote underneath a series of pictures Teigen shared from a late-night talk show appearance in October. “Girls with round faces should not have short hair like that. It makes your face looks huge. Been there….believe me….LONG HAIR.”

Teigen responded: “@bcnjw honestly wow thank you because when I wake up each morning I wonder what @bcnjw would do and then I try to make her happy. So this was a mistake on my part.”

Weeks prior, the Cravings author shut down speculation that she and Legend — who tied the knot in September 2013 — were expecting another child.

“I’m asking this with the utmost respectful, but is @chrissyteigen pregnant again?” a Twitter user commented about a photo of Teigen from the 2018 Emmys in September.

“I just had a baby,” Teigen hit back. “But thank you for being soooo respectful.”

How Basketball’s Fight Over Racial Equality Remade the Game

Photo Illustration by Lyne Lucien/The Daily Beast

Dr. James Naismith’s final student before he retired from the University of Kansas was John McLendon, the pioneer of fast-break basketball, the full-court press, and the four corners offense. Yet McLendon never received the credit he deserved, because the majority of his work was accomplished at historically black colleges and universities when basketball was still segregated in the United States.

Long before civil rights legislation began to rid America of the scourge of segregation, McLendon was utilizing basketball to break down racial barriers. In March 1944, McLendon orchestrated a “secret game” between his team, North Carolina College for Negroes (now North Carolina Central University), and a collection of white former college basketball stars from Duke University Medical School, who had handily beaten the Duke varsity team in a scrimmage. McLendon planned the game for a Sunday morning, when most people would be in church. The medical students borrowed cars from friends and drove a circuitous route to the school to avoid being detected, arriving with their jackets pulled over their heads. They hustled into a locked gym, where McLendon’s Eagles trounced them 88–44. There were no spectators.

“Coach Mac” went on to mentor countless African American coaches, among them Southern University coach Ben Jobe, Clarence “Big House” Gaines (who led Winston-Salem State University to a Division II NCAA championship in 1967 on the strength of a young guard named Earl Monroe), and former Georgetown coach John Thompson, who became the first African American coach to win a Division I championship.

Taye Diggs Sued By Ex-Manager Over Unpaid Commissions

Taye Diggs is reportedly being sued by the former management company that he fired over unpaid commissions.

Authentic Talent and Literary Management claims the actor owes them money for closing deals to get him on shows like All American and Beauty and the Beast. They also allege that they bagged on his behalf “a slew of endorsement deals.”

According to THR, Diggs and ATLM began working together in June 2015, according to the complaint, and the parties agreed that the “Empire” star would pay the firm 10 percent of his industry-related income.

Deadline shares the details:

The actor’s Deep Down Productions also is a defendant in the suit filed today in Los Angeles Superior Court. Authentic says it is owed “substantial sums of money” and that “these sums continue to accrue.” “Plaintiff has made repeated efforts to obtain payment from Diggs in order to avoid litigation,” the suit says. “Regrettably, however, Diggs has failed and refused to abide by his obligations hereunder and to tender commissions and post-termination commissions and other payments due and owing Plaintiff.”

The filing says Diggs hired Authentic to manage his career in June 2015 and that Authentic performed “exemplary” services until he fired the firm in late July. “Diggs has wrongfully failed and refused to abide by his legal obligations to pay Plaintiff commissions in connection with the numerous deals and employment obtained during the parties’ management relationship, including but not limited to the following: the All American, Beauty and the Beast, Crossovers, 25 Words or Less and [multiple] endorsement deals.”

ATLM is suing for breach of oral contract and wants the court to order an accounting of Diggs’ compensation in order to determine the amount of damages.

‘Enough Is Enough.’ It’s Time to Decertify USA Gymnastics or Start All Over Again, Gymnasts Say

The U.S. women’s gymnastics team enters the world championships in Doha, Qatar, this month as the defending team champions. American women have dominated the top of the podium at the last three championships, and five-time Olympic medalist Simone Biles is competing for her fourth all-around individual world championship title. She also qualified in all six events at the championships, and if she earns gold in each of them, could become only the second female gymnast to sweep all of the titles at a single meet since the 1980s.

But USA Gymnastics, the national federation for gymnasts for which she competes, is mired in one of the worst sexual abuse scandals in sports history. And its response to the revelations that team doctor Larry Nassar abused hundreds of athletes, including Biles, has prompted many leading many gymnasts to call for the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) to decertify USA Gymnastics, or at least remove everyone associated with the organization during Nassar’s years of abuse, and start all over.

“Enough is enough,” Aly Raisman, who was among the first Olympic team members to reveal she was abused by Nassar, tells TIME. She says the board of USA Gymnastics has been making “mistakes over and over again. And I think we have given them enough time. We can’t wait any more. It’s not right.”

Those calls grew louder last week after Steve Penny, the organization’s former president, was arrested on vacation with his family following an indictment for tampering with evidence relating to the Nassar scandal. His attorney said Penny was not aware of the warrant and is confident that his actions were not criminal.

Then, Mary Bono, the second person appointed to replace Penny, resigned after less than a week when it was revealed that her law firm represented USA Gymnastics and reportedly helped to provide a cover story for explaining Nassar’s absence after initial reports of his abuse. She also faced criticism from athletes including Biles for a now-deleted tweet from September in which Bono covered a Nike logo on her golf shoes in response to Colin Kaepernick’s Nike ad.

USA Gymnastics did not respond to requests for comment, although it did issue a statement regarding Penny’s arrest that said the organization “support[s] law enforcement’s efforts and [that it has] fully cooperated with the investigations by the Texas Rangers, Congress and others and will continue to do so to help the survivors and our community heal from this tragedy.” In announcing Bono’s departure, the USA Gymnastics board said in a statement that it was “in the best interest of the organization.”

In addition, USA Gymnastics refuses to settle any of the numerous lawsuits it faces from gymnasts including Raisman and Olympic teammates McKayla Maroney, Kyla Ross and Jordyn Wieber, all of whom were abused by Nassar and say that the organization failed to protect them by allowing him to continue to serve as national team doctor, even after receiving reports of his abuse.

“I was always concerned about how this was handled by USA Gymnastics, but now I feel it’s really dangerous,” Raisman says. “USA Gymnastics has not been transparent at all. There have been so many resignations, and no answers. They won’t release anything, which is making me more nervous about what else they are hiding.”

It’s now clear that the U.S. women’s gymnastics team’s dominance at world and Olympic competitions in recent decades came at a price. The entire five-woman 2012 Olympic team and four of the five-member 2016 team have revealed that they were sexually abused by Nassar, an osteopathic doctor. Over a period of more than a decade, he abused more than three hundred athletes under the guise of medical treatments. According to his victims, the abuse occurred at his office at Michigan State University where he was on the faculty, in hotel rooms during competitions and at the national training center at the Karolyi Ranch in Texas. Nassar is currently serving up to 175 years in prison for his crimes.

The USOC currently recognizes national governing bodies for sports like gymnastics, and that means USA Gymnastics adheres to bylaws established by the Olympic Committee concerning proper conduct of athletes and coaches, and compliance with its policies, which include anti-doping rules. USA Gymnastics also receives funding from the USOC to support the elite competition teams that represent the U.S. at world and Olympic events. Perhaps most importantly, many international sports federations that put on competitions such as world championships and oversee participation at the Olympics require national federations like the USOC to sponsor teams from their respective countries.

For USA Gymnastics to be decertified, a complaint would have to be filed by the CEO of the USOC. Once a complaint is brought to the USOC board, a hearing would be held including, in this case, members of USA Gymnastics and the athletes’ advisory council. The panel would then make a recommendation about whether to revoke recognition as gymnastics’ governing body. If another organization were to come forward to be recognized by the USOC, it would need a different name and would have to adhere to the bylaws of the USOC and start to gain membership of local gyms. If an alternate organization is not available to take over for USA Gymnastics, then gymnasts would temporarily compete under the umbrella of the USOC. However, if the USOC decertifies USA Gymnastics, it’s not clear whether the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) would recognize American gymnasts at international competitions.

While unusual, there is precedent for decertification. The national governing bodies for taekwondo and team handball were decertified, and new organizations were created to replace them. In taekwondo’s case, the prior organization failed to address financial problems after USOC audits, and in team handball’s situation, USOC felt the existing management was not fulfilling its obligation to grow and populate the sport adequately.

The USOC did threaten USA Gymnastics with decertification, after it learned that Penny had waited five weeks before reporting reports of sexual abuse by Nassar to law enforcement. That led to Penny’s resignation, as well as the resignation of three top board members. But many survivors, including Raisman, want transparency from USA Gymnastics, including an explanation for why Nassar was allowed to continue to abuse gymnasts even after complaints about him were provided to its leadership, as well as explanations for the recent series of resignations.

“This is bigger than one abuser,” Raisman says. “It’s the leadership at USA Gymnastics that is creating this disaster.”

Raisman isn’t sure if decertification is the best option, but says something must be done to fundamentally change USA Gymnastics.

Nassar is in prison for his crimes, Penny resigned and the top three members of the USA Gymnastics board also stepped down. But, Raisman says, not much has actually changed at the organization. It has not acknowledged the scandal nor taken responsibility for what happened to hundreds of gymnasts who trusted that the governing body would have their best interests in mind and keep them safe.

“Some of the same leaders who were there [while Nassar was the team doctor] are still there. The old influence, the bad influence that created the problem, is still there,” she says. “They didn’t listen to anything we said; they never did and still are not doing it.”

In its statement announcing Bono’s departure, USA Gymnastics said it “remain[s] steadfast in our efforts to fundamentally transform the organization at all levels to ensure athlete safety and well-being is at the heart of everything we do…While we have made progress, we have much more work to do. This board is determined to take the necessary steps to support a safe, inclusive and competitive environment where all our athletes and members can grow, have fun and achieve their goals.”

Since the survivors came forward en masse to provide victim impact statements at Nassar’s sentencing hearing in January, Kerry Perry, who was the first president appointed to succeed Penny, was called before Congress to explain how Nassar was allowed to abuse gymnasts for years, despite reports to the organization that he was a sexual predator. Rather than providing an explanation, however, she redirected the focus to her intention to “make sure we’re focusing our organization on athlete safety.” Perry resigned in September after nine months leading USA Gymnastics.

The board then appointed Mary Lee Tracy as development coordinator to oversee training for gymnasts working toward making the elite world and Olympic teams. In December 2016, Tracy had defended Nassar, calling him “amazing” although he had been charged with child sexual abuse and indicted on federal child pornography charges days before. Tracy defended her description, saying she was only referring to her own experience with Nassar and that her comments had “absolutely nothing to do with … the survivors.” When Raisman tweeted that Tracy’s appointment was a “disappointment,” Tracy attempted to reach out to the Olympian and was asked by USA Gymnastics to resign three days into the job.

“I wonder how many more times does somebody have to do something harmful that hurts, actually hurts children and affects them in potentially life-threatening ways before somebody does something?” says Jessica Howard, a rhythmic gymnast who was abused by Nassar. “It hurts me as a victim; it’s a gut punch every single time.”

Howard says that the constant poor leadership decisions and resignations, and the arrest of Penny, are only perpetuating the pain and frustration for survivors. The message from USA Gymnastics, Howard says, is that athletes’ interests are still not the top priority for the organization. “I thought, this can’t be real,” says Howard when she read about the board’s decision to appoint Bono as interim president and CEO. “Maybe I’m having a dream — I actually thought that maybe I was having a dream. They cannot be this oblivious. It’s like screaming fire and nobody comes, and there are people in the building.”

Part of the problem, say many survivors, is that the organization has failed to take responsibility for the scandal and in doing so, damaged its reputation. “No one with any integrity is willing to take the position of leadership at USA Gymnastics,” says Rachel Denhollander, who was the first to identify herself as a victim of Nassar. “For two and a half years [USA Gymnastics] has consistently demonstrated that they have no desire to do the right thing.”

For one, she and others point to the fact that Ron Galimore continues in his position as chief operating officer at USA Gymnastics. According to email exchanges in the summer of 2015 that were obtained by the Indianapolis Star, an attorney from Bono’s firm suggested that Galimore be tasked with telling the USA Gymnastics’ medical team that Nassar was absent from competitions because he wasn’t feeling well – rather than informing them that Nassar was under investigation for sexual misconduct. USA Gymnastics did not respond to a request for comment on Galimore and his alleged involvement in the Nassar scandal.

“What people need to understand is that this is not a Larry problem — Larry is a symptom of a USA Gymnastics problem,” says Denhollander. “And they have not taken care of the root problem; they have only taken care of one of the symptoms.”

USA Gymnastics cites its adoption of SafeSport policies, created by the USOC’s U.S. Center for SafeSport. It’s meant to be an independent body that can investigate allegations of sexual misconduct, but many athletes feel that isn’t enough. Raisman, for one, advocates creating an entirely independent body — not affiliated with the USOC or its various sports governing bodies — to which athletes can turn for support and safety. She is working with Darkness to Light, a non-profit that provides education to adults to help them recognize signs of childhood sexual abuse, and wants to come up with other potential solutions for keeping athletes safe not just in gymnastics but all sports. “I never imagined it would get this bad,” she says.

Denhollander is hoping that Congress, which passed the Amateur Sports Act that created the USOC oversees the national governing bodies for the various sports, will hold the USOC accountable in a more stringent way. “Congress has to act to make a difference,” she says. “There is no way forward otherwise with this organization. Until all of those people who participated in the abusive culture that led to the worst scandal in recorded or Olympic history are gone, things are not going to be done differently. That’s the reason the current board is continually making the wrong choices. It’s not an accident.”

In the absence of more positive action from USA Gymnastics, the USOC, or Congress, Raisman feels an urgency to become an advocate for change herself, especially with the next Olympic Games only two years away. “I think about them a lot,” says Raisman of the gymnasts competing at the world championships in Doha, who are aiming to make the Olympic team in two years. “When I was training for the Olympics and realized what was happening [with the way complaints against Nassar were handled] was wrong, it was hard to work for an organization that I knew was very corrupt. And now with everything that has come out, it’s way worse than I ever imagined it would be. But it’s not the survivors’ fault. It’s the organization’s fault. The moment they realized something was wrong, if they had handled it the right way, and reported it, this wouldn’t be a problem right now. I’m trying to brainstorm ideas,” she says. “We owe it to the sport. The sport deserves much better.”

A big chunk of the Moon which became a lunar meteorite just sold for over $600,000

moon meteorite

Getting your hands on a piece of the Moon is pretty darn difficult for most of us. Some lunar missions have brought samples back from the Moon’s surface, but those are typically held by scientists and museums so they can be studied and shown off.

Recently, a rather large piece of Earth’s only natural satellite ended up on the auction block, but it wasn’t brought back by astronauts. This large, fragmented chunk of the Moon actually fell to Earth all on its own, and now it’s fetched the incredible price of $ 612,500.

Why Instagrammers Are Going Wild Over These Debt-Free Coloring Charts

In 2009, Heidi Ifland Nash and her husband were paying off $ 38,000 of debt.

They’d been working on it for several years. At one point, Nash wanted to see tangible progress, so she decided to track their payments on paper with a chart she could color in as they inched toward their goal.

“The very first chart I made was just a big square with lines,” she said, laughing. “I said, ‘This is so boring! I’m gonna put some words on it.’”

She typed the words “debt free” in white text over a black box and added evenly spaced lines from top to bottom. She divided her debt by the number of lines and added the increments to the side. It was the first official Debt Free Chart.

“I was looking for something more inspiring than just the big ugly square that I’d made, and the thermometers just didn’t do it for me,” she said. “[They] just felt like a guilt-based fundraiser.”

Then, she uploaded her chart in the Living Like No One Else forum for people paying off debt. Soon, people started asking for personalized charts.

“I was custom-making everyone’s numbers,” she said. “It didn’t occur to me for months to make ones with just lines and no numbers on the side.”

From there, people asked for different words. First was “car loan.” Other types of loans followed. The first 16 to 20 designs came from requests from the forum.

Nash wanted to make them available to anyone, so she uploaded them to a Blogspot blog in 2010. Then, she forgot about them.

Over the next seven years, Nash had no idea that word of her charts was spreading on social media and Pinterest. People were downloading them constantly.

Why Coloring Can Help You Reach Your Goals

One of Heidi Nash's charts is incorporated in this vision board created by The Penny Hoarder.
Chris Zuppa/The Penny Hoarder.

Studies have shown that envisioning yourself doing something can help you actually accomplish it.

People often make vision boards with pictures of trips they’ll take or the car they’ll upgrade to once their debt is gone. But a vision board celebrates future achievements. It’s just as important during the journey to remind yourself of what you’ve already accomplished.

That’s what Debt Free Charts offer. They make the stale process of paying off debt interactive. Every payment is a celebration of moving one step closer to that vision board goal.

Now, almost a decade after Nash uploaded her first chart, when you search through the #debtfreecommunity on Instagram, it won’t take you long to find photos of brightly colored pages with the words “credit card,” “student loan” or “emergency fund.”

“It’s a great visual motivator to keep going,” said Michelle Brady, who’s using the car fund, credit cards and savings challenge charts.

How Debt Free Charts Got a New Life

One of Heidi Nash's charts is incorporated in this vision board created by The Penny Hoarder.
Chris Zuppa/The Penny Hoarder.

In December 2017, Nash got a chart request. It was the first in a while.

She had become debt-free and gone on to home-school her kids while trying various entrepreneurial ventures in the years since she’d uploaded the charts.

After checking her blog, Nash realized the file storage system and a lot of the links to charts weren’t working. So she moved the charts their own website.

She got the idea to post pictures of people with their charts. She knew some YouTubers had filled out the charts, but she didn’t know what to expect beyond that.

What she found were hundreds of pictures on Instagram with the hashtag #debtfreecharts.

“It’s kinda taken on a life of its own,” Nash said. “It’s doing things I never expected it to do.”

Nash never expected her first Debt Free Chart would turn into the more than 80 she has on her website now. Most cost $ 1, but 20 are free.

At $ 1 each, she isn’t looking to get rich on chart sales. She wants to break even for the cost of running the website. She’d rather use the popularity of the charts to give more away for free.

Nash’s goal is to give out 150,000 free charts in 2018 — and she’s already 50,000 charts toward her goal.

Which ones are her favorites? She loves seeing people post their finished starter emergency fund charts.

“It’s such a ‘Wow, I can do this’ moment for people when they fill that one out,” she said.

Another favorite is the adoption fund chart.

She’s also starting to run challenges to help people meet their savings goals faster. She wants to create a sense of community among those paying off debt.

“You see their joy and relief, and you see the pride in the work that they’ve done to pay off the debt,” Nash said. “It’s something I never expected to feel.”

Say What Now? Iowa Basketball Coach Admits to Sexually Exploiting and Abusing Over 400 Boys

An Iowa boys basketball coach is facing up to 180 years behind bars after admitting to sexually exploiting and abusing at least 400 underage boys.

via Page Six:

Greg Stephen pleaded guilty Oct. 18 to five counts of sexual exploitation of minors, one count of transporting child pornography and another of possessing child pornography.

The 42-year-old coach was arrested in March after his ex-brother-in-law found a recording device in Stephen’s house the previous month. He then handed it over to authorities after discovering it contained videos of showering boys. Investigators then searched Stephen’s other homes and found a hard drive and other devices with numerous photos and videos of boys in graphic sexual situations, reported CBS News.

Stephen confessed that he possessed a hard drive containing explicit media regarding 400 different minor males.

In some cases, he posed as a teen girl on social media to trick unsuspecting boys into creating explicit images, offering to trade nude pictures and videos while telling the males what to do. In his possession were images of boys bathing and in various states of undress in hotels. In one of his homes, recording devices were cloaked as a smoke detector and a towel hook.

Even more disturbing, Stephen took videos and photos of sleeping boys with their pants pulled down — and in some instances, recorded himself touching their genitals.

While it’s possible he could spend the rest of his life in prison if his appeals fail, he will face a minimum 15-year lockup term at his upcoming sentencing, which has not been set.

Lock him up!

Wool Week Takes Over London’s Covent Garden With Colored Washing Machines

SPIN CYCLE: Britain’s annual Wool Week always sets out to quash misconceptions about the fabric, and this year they didn’t disappoint, unveiling an installation of stacked, colorful washing machines in London’s Covent Garden. Dubbed The Wool Care, the installation will be on show until Oct. 21, and is meant to demonstrate the fact that wool is washable, durable — and cool.
“We always thought this was the last frontier. A lot of people think you can’t throw wool in a washing machine, but you can, and when you wash wool, you’re not creating micro-plastics. Wool biodegrades naturally in the sea,” said Peter Ackroyd, chief operating officer for Campaign for Wool.
Hackett, Vivienne Westwood, Marks & Spencer and Adidas are among some of the retailers who took part in the launch earlier this week. “Vivienne Westwood has spread the message of wool extremely well, she talks about buy well, buy less, buy wool,” Ackroyd said.
Jeremy Hackett of the men’s wear brand Hackett unveiled the installation with his dog Muffin and his Aston Martin, which has bespoke wool interiors. Among the other retailers who are preaching the gospel of wool is the outdoor apparel brand Finisterre, which is changing the perception of wool as an “old-fashioned and stuffy” material.

T.I. Rips Into Kanye West Over His Meeting With Trump [VIDEO]

Power 105.1 FM Presents Jay-Z I Declare War Concert

Kanye West’s latest meeting with Donald Trump has left a ton of people unsettled, including his peers like T.I. who has recorded music with the rapper.

“Now I’ve been extremely patient and made it a point to not jump to any premature conclusions about Ye’& his antics… Partially due to the lessons learned from the outcome of other similar situations dealing wit my brother Wayne (which I admittedly mishandled a bit in hindsight) But now this shit is next level, futuristic Sambo,Hopping Bob, Stephen off Django ass shit Ye!!!! From what I can gather,” T.I. wrote in an Instagram post under video of Kanye’s rant in the White House.

In case you missed it, Kanye West visited the White House yesterday (October 11) to discuss a slew of things ranging from black-on-black crime to unity to make the president look good. It was the last straw for T.I., who once supported Ye.

“This is the most repulsive, disgraceful, embarrassing act of desperation & auctioning off of one’s soul to gain power I’ve ever seen,” he wrote, revealing that Kanye asked him to go to the White House with him.

“If you behaved that spinelessly in my presence, I feel that I’d be compelled to slap de’ f**k outta you bro, for the people,” he said. “You’re a** kissing and bootlicking on a whole new level and I refuse to associate myself with something so vile, weak and inconsiderate to the effect this has on the greater good of ALL OUR PEOPLE! At one time it was a pleasure to work alongside you… now, I’m ashamed to have ever been associated with you.”

T.I. also warned Yeezy fans to beware because “this is a play to put him in a position he’d like to see himself in.”

“As long as I’ve lived I’ve learned that it benefits a man nothing at all to gain the world, if to do so he must lose his soul,” he added. “We just saw Mr.West’s Soul on auction. If you listen closely you can hear the tears of our ancestors hit the floor. All I can say is I’ve reached my limits. This is my stop, I’m officially DONE! F**k Trump and his lil’ cookie boy.”

The Stock Market Cleaned Out Billionaires Over the Past Week. Here’s Who Lost the Most

Billionaires have won big in the long-running bull market that may be teetering on the edge of ending. But they’re also set to lose big. Over the past week, the world’s wealthiest have collectively dropped about $ 50 billion in estimated net worth.

What’s $ 50 billion among the world’s uber-rich? Enough to leave a mark, that’s for sure, but they aren’t hurting for cash–yet. For perspective though, in addition to being the amount of evaporating wealth, $ 50 billion is also the amount of the U.S. trade deficit in July, the first round of Trump’s tariffs against China, and the market value of Target–with $ 5 billion to spare.

So how exactly has the stock market selloff impacted the net worth of world’s richest people? Here’s who took the biggest bath this week, and how much it cost them:

Jeff Bezos (-$ 15 billion)

Amazon’s founder, the world’s richest person, stood to lose the most. And that he did. Jeff Bezos’ net worth dropped from $ 161 billion a week ago down to $ 140 billion on Thursday. That still puts him standing arms akimbo on top of the heap of lesser billionaires, but his company’s focus on consumer goods, which could be further affected by import tariffs and trade wars, could push him closer to more diversified super rich.

Bernard Arnault (-$ 5.9 billion)

Arnault is the longtime chairman and chief executive of LVMH (Mo?t Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE), the world’s largest luxury goods company. He’s also the richest person in Europe, and accordingly, his net worth went down with the crash, from $ 73.5 billion to $ 67.6 billion. At one point, he was down to $ 66.9 billion, but his portfolio seems to be rebounding already.

Warren Buffet (-$ 5.4 billion)

Even the Oracle of Omaha couldn’t predict the market volatility of this past week. Buffet initially saw gains from the $ 90 billion he started with a week ago, climbing to $ 92 billion by Oct. 9. But ultimately, he came crashing down, finishing Oct. 11 with an estimated $ 84.6 billion

Pony Ma (-$ 4 billion)

The China-based Tencent is one of the world’s largest Internet companies, and Pony Ma (Ma Huateng) is the founder, chairman, and chief executive, and maintains extensive holdings in the company. While Tencent dominates Chinese gaming, chat, investment, and other arenas, the global stock pullback pushed his net worth from $ 32 billion down to $ 28 billion.

Bill Gates (-$ 3.9 billion)

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has shifted out of the fast-paced life of a technology dominator into the role of public-health and education philanthropist. But despite regular transfers of wealth to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, he doesn’t find himself pulling his pockets inside out for change. Gates, the second-richest person in the world, saw his worth drop from $ 98.7 billion to $ 94.80 billion in the last week.

Larry Page (-$ 3.8 billion)

Google co-founder Larry Page remains actively involved in the management of Alphabet, the holding company of Google and other ventures, has been buffeted lately by concerns about the company navigating forward with a reported China-targeted search engine acceptable that country’s censors, and military-contracting work. Page’s net worth dropped from $ 57.10 to $ 53.30 billion since Oct. 4.

Fran?ois Pinault (-$ 3.8 billion)

Fran?ois Pinault, among France’s richest people and the head of one of the nation’s wealthiest families, is the 82-year-old self-made billionaire behind Kering, which owns a large array of luxury-goods brands, like Gucci, LVMH, and Yves Saint Laurent. He also personally owns Christie’s, the long-established auction house. His portfolio slumped from $ 32.4 billion to $ 28.6 billion.

Sergey Brin (-$ 3.6 billion)

Google’s other co-founder has similar holdings and suffered similar losses as his partner, Larry Page, with Sergey Brin dropping from a reported $ 55.6 billion to $ 52 billion.

Frank Wang (-$ 2.54 billion)

Frank Wang may seem like an outlier and a relative unknown in this list, with a net worth estimated on Oct. 11 of just $ 6.74 billion. But he’s also one of the biggest net losers, dropping from $ 9.28 billion in the last week. Wang’s holdings are tied up in DJI, the biggest maker of commercial and civilian drones in the world, and a company he founded in 2006. As a privately held company, estimates of his net worth over the short term may be more volatile, but DJI has a high degree of exposure to Trump’s trade wars with China from several angles, including the cost of raw goods globally and import tariffs imposed on the lucrative American market potentially reducing revenue.

Steve Ballmer (-$ 2.4 billion)

Bill Gates’s earliest lieutenant, Ballmer took over Microsoft for several years and missed out on the mobile revolution. Forced from the company, he’s found solace in $ 40.1 billion of personal wealth, down from $ 42.50 billion a week ago–and his ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers NBA basketball team.

Mark Zuckerberg (-$ 2.1 billion)

Despite the many investigations, disclosures, and security problems Facebook has faced in recent months, Mark Zuckerberg saw the least losses among his dot-com peers. He was worth $ 62.9 billion a week ago, and now $ 60.8 billion.

Camila Cabello was all the rage at the 2018 American Music Awards on Tuesday, October 9.

The 21-year-old songstress stunned as she took the stage at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles for her first ever AMAs performance, belting out her hit song “Consequences.”

The Cuba native wore a classy pink-and-black ball gown paired with long silky gloves with her dark hair flowing in loose waves.

It didn’t take long for Twitter to go wild over Cabello’s production.

“And again I’m surprised by your voice! Your vocal is wonderful you have a huge talent. I’m proud to be your fan 💗 EU TE AMO @Camila_Cabello,” one commenter wrote.

Another added: “You’re the cutest most talented, brilliant, amazing, incredible girl!! You killed that performance!! It was 100% perfect!! 😍😍 I loved it so much, and didn’t want it to finish.”

“@Camila_Cabello the holy vocals, the orchestra, your beautiful dress… my princess, everything about this performance is just AMAZING. I’m so proud of you 🌹❤ #AMAs,” another tweeter chimed in.

And social media wasn’t alone. Those in the audience — including her pal Taylor Swift — couldn’t help but react with joy to Cabello’s performance.

Cabello, who brought her father as her date to the star-studded event, gushed over her excitement on Twitter leading up to her time on stage. “Let’s do this!!!” she wrote alongside a series of photos earlier in the night. She also added two photos of herself with her dad writing, “my plus one!!!!! aguevoooooo 💞

The “Havana” songstress won the American Music Awards for both Pop/Rock Song of the Year as well as New Artist.

Tisha Campbell-Martin Pays Over $100k To Buy Back Royalties In Bankruptcy Case

Tisha Campbell-Martin has reportedly reached a deal to buy back the rights to collect her royalties that she relinquished as part of her bankruptcy case.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Tisha and her estranged husband Duane Martin have reached a settlement with the trustee. She will reportedly pay $ 115,000 in two installments in order to obtain her residual rights. Martin will pay $ 60,000 in one installment and $ 55,000 in another within 90 days of a court’s approval of the settlement.

The former couple have been battling over the residuals for months and, as noted in the report, since the bankruptcy was filed, the trustee has collected $ 300,000 in royalties.

The docs state, “Since December 2017, the debtors have been in the process of ending their marriage and in February 2018, Ms. Campbell filed for divorce from Mr. Martin … In connection with that process and Ms. Campbell’s stated attempt to unravel a long history of Mr. Martin’s control over their joint finances, Ms. Campbell engaged new representation with regard to the dispute described in the Agreement.”

The actress previously accused her ex of hiding money from her during their marriage. She also told the trustee that during their marriage, Duane was responsible for managing all their financials, including collecting her residuals.

Campbell-Martin filed for divorce earlier this year after 20 years of marriage. She and Duane were reportedly legally separated in December 2016.

Sprint adds Voice over LTE years after everyone else

Sprint Voice over LTE support

Voice over LTE is a mature technology that allows for higher-quality voice calls over the 4G LTE protocol, rather than using the standard cellular voice system. It’s been standard issue on high-end phones on most American networks for years now, but then again, Sprint isn’t most networks.

The company has finally started a soft launch of VoLTE, with a couple of Samsung devices and 15 regions getting the feature right now. More cities and phones are being promised in the coming weeks, but it’s unclear whether it will be completely rolled out before T-Mobile formally gobbles up Sprint.

5 ways to get over your jet lag

Adjusting to a new time zone is never easy for your body, especially when you travel east. The difference in time zones causes a great deal of confusion in the biorhythm of your body, and this can further lead to fatigue, headache, and difficulty concentrating.

However, the good news is that you don’t have to suffer from jet lag for a long time. These tips below will help you.

Prepare in every way possible beforehand

It’s never a good idea to stay up the whole night and not get any sleep before a long flight. This only makes your jet lag worse. Instead, a smart move is to help your body adapt to the new time zone in advance. For instance, if you are traveling east, you can sleep a few hours earlier and wake up earlier than usual, and if you are heading west, try going to bed a few hours later than your usual sleeping time. This will help your body adapt easily once you are actually in your new time zone.

In addition, while booking your flight tickets, you should try to land during the afternoon or evening, rather than morning or at night, if possible. This way, it’s easier for you to stay up.

Avoid sleeping pills

You may be tempted to take some sleeping pills so that you can get a good rest, especially if your flight is during the night. Even though these pills may put you to sleep, the aftereffects can be quite unpleasant. After you land, you tend to feel extremely tired, and your jet lag will become worse.

Avoid coffee at all costs, but drink plenty of water

Make sure you do not consume any coffee or other caffeinated drinks such as energy drinks or Coca-cola. The caffeine content will have a negative influence on your body’s biorhythm and make it difficult to sleep. This further makes it harder for you to adjust to your new time zone once you land, worsening your jet lag. Instead, drink plenty of water to make sure your body is properly hydrated.

Make sure you eat as per your new time zone

It’s important to not skip any meal before and during your flight if you want to reduce the effects of jet lag. It is even a good idea to start having your meals as per the new time zone every day. For instance, having milk and cereal at 10 pm can help your body adjust better once you arrive.

Set your watch to the new time zone

Lastly, you can set your watch to your new time zone as soon as you sit on the plane. This will mentally prepare you for your arrival. However, make sure you do this only after entering the plane and not before. You don’t want to miss your flight!

Jet lag may be common and annoying, but you don’t have to let it spoil your traveling experience. Just follow these five useful tips, and your body will adjust to the new time zone in no time.

It was widely expected, and now it’s official. From Instagram’s announcement about the leadership news: “In his role leading Instagram, Adam will oversee all functions of the business and will recruit a new executive team including a head of engineering, head of product and head of operations.”

Sophie Turner thinks Game of Thrones fans ‘will be disappointed’ or ‘over the moon’ about the finale

‘I think it will be really interesting to see people’s reactions, but for me reading the script it was just like heartbreaking.’

sophie turner game of thrones finale
Sky / HBO

Any Game of Thrones fan by now will know that the HBO fantasy will never give you what you want. A happy family unit? For a few episodes, then your wife and kids will be forced to watch your public execution. True love? Sure, for a second, before somebody murders your pregnant wife in front of you in cold blood. And now that the series is drawing to an end, apparently the show’s grand finale is going to be a divisive one too and GoT’s Sophie Turner thinks it’s not going to please anyone.

Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, spoke to IGN about the anticipated final series next year and was pressed on the end of the entire show. She said, ‘I think a lot of fans will be disappointed and a lot of fans will be over the moon.’

There’s a lot to unpack here. You can take this a few ways: does this mean we’ll get a miserable ending that makes total sense for Game of Thrones, but keeps all our favourite characters from true happiness?

sophie turner game of thrones finale

Sky / ©2016 Home Box Office, Inc. All

Or, does this mean that we’ll get a happy ending that would make no sense because joy and closure are things that don’t exist in Westeros? If we were betting people, we’d put our money on the first TBH – especially after what she said next.

Sophie said there were ‘a lot of tears’ and continued, ‘I think it will be really interesting to see people’s reactions, but for me reading the script it was just like heartbreaking.’

Okay, now we’re really worried. Heartbreaking?! We had steeled ourselves for the death of at least one of our favourite characters, but now we’re prepping to have joint memorial services for everyone in the show.

sophie turner game of thrones finale

Sky / ©2017 Home Box Office, Inc. All

Even if she thinks the ending will be divisive, Sophie’s pretty happy with the way it all turned out. She said, ‘As an actor it was really satisfying. I think for everyone, everyone’s storylines — to be able to act out the way that it all ends. It was really satisfying for us. Who knows if it will be satisfying for the fans.’

Well, there’s only one way to find out and it’s a long, hard few months away. The next and final seven-episode series of Game of Thrones is set to drop next year, though no exact release date has been announced yet. We know that the show’s motto is Valar Morghulis, a.k.a. ‘All men must die’, but we really hope they don’t double down on that in 2019.
