R. Kelly Pleads Not Guilty to 10 Counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse

UPDATE 2/25 11:00 a.m. ET: R. Kelly’s attorney, Steve Greenberg, entered a not guilty plea on his client’s behalf during an arraignment hearing in Chicago on Monday, February 25. The performer’s next court date is scheduled for March 22.

Original story below:

R. Kelly, who has been accused of sexually abusing young women for more than two decades, was arrested on Friday, February 22.

The “Ignition (Remix)” singer, 52, turned himself in at a Chicago police station at approximately 8:15 p.m., hours after being charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse for alleged incidents that involved four victims and occurred between 1998 and 2010. At least three of the victims were between the ages of 13 and 17.

A Cook County, Illinois, judge had issued a no-bail warrant for Kelly’s arrest earlier on Friday after the four indictments were filed. He is expected to be held in custody overnight before a scheduled appearance in court on Saturday, February 23.

“He is extraordinarily disappointed and depressed,” Kelly’s attorney, Steve Greenberg, told the Associated Press. “He is shell-shocked by this.”

Attorney Michael Avenatti announced on February 14 that he handed over a newly discovered videotape to Chicago prosecutors that allegedly shows Kelly having sex with an underage girl. CNN also reviewed the footage and reported that “a naked man who appears to be R. Kelly is seen performing multiple sex acts with the girl,” whom he repeatedly refers to as “14 years old.”

Kelly has been accused of sexual abuse, manipulation and inappropriate behavior since the early 1990s, but he has long maintained his innocence.

In 1994, the three-time Grammy winner illegally married his then-15-year-old protégée, Aaliyah. Their union was annulled months later at the behest of the late songstress’ family. Then in 2002, a video surfaced showing a man who appeared to be Kelly having sex with and urinating on an underage girl. He was subsequently arrested on 13 counts of child pornography, but a jury acquitted him six years later.

Kelly made headlines again in 2017 when BuzzFeed News reported that he allegedly held a group of women against their will in what the site described as an “abusive cult.” He also denied those claims, as have some of the women.

More recently, the R&B performer was the subject of Lifetime’s six-part docuseries Surviving R. Kelly, which included more than 50 interviews with his former collaborators and accusers. Activists and celebrities later launched the social media movement #MuteRKelly to call on streaming services to drop his music.

Man Pleads No Contest To Stalking Rihanna

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man who authorities say broke into Rihanna’s Hollywood Hills home and spent 12 hours there when she was not home has pleaded no contest to stalking the singer.

Los Angeles County prosecutors said Thursday that 27-year-old Eduardo Leon of Fullerton entered the plea to felony counts of stalking and vandalism and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.

He was immediately sentenced to five years’ probation and 90 days of GPS monitoring. A judge also ordered him to stay away from Rihanna for 10 years, to stay off social media while on probation and to enter a program for mental health and drug treatment.

Prosecutors said Leon leapt a fence and broke into the house on May 9. Twelve hours later, Rihanna’s assistant found him and called police.

Giants QB Kyle Lauletta pleads guilty to disorderly charge

New York Giants rookie quarterback Kyle Lauletta pleaded guilty Tuesday to a disorderly persons offense and two tickets for an improper turn and disregarding an officer’s instructions back in October, according to his lawyer Gerald Krovatin. The criminal charges of eluding police and the subsequent disorderly persons charges were dropped Tuesday in Hudson County Court. Lauletta will have all charges dropped if he avoids further trouble over the next 12 months as part of the conditional dismissal program in New Jersey. Lauletta was arrested in October for various motor vehicle and related disorderly persons offenses pertaining to a traffic violation in Weehawken, New Jersey. The police alleged he tried to make a right turn from the wrong lane in his Jaguar to get to Route 495 West for the second straight day. He was told to keep going straight, but Lauletta almost struck an officer while making the illegal turn and then "refused various instructions" after…

T.I. Pleads No Contest To Violating Ban On Public Cursing

(AP Photo)

ATLANTA (AP) — Rapper T.I. is paying a $ 300 fine after pleading no contest to violating a local law in Georgia that prohibits public cursing.

The charge against the performer stems from a May incident at the gated community where he lives in the Atlanta suburb of Stockbridge.

His spokesman, Steve Sadow, tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., maintains his innocence but entered a plea “to put this matter to bed.”

Henry County Deputy Police Chief Mike Ireland said at the time that T.I. lost his key and the guard wouldn’t let him into the neighborhood. A police report says the entertainer eventually was allowed inside but walked back to the guard, demanding his supervisor’s name. Police were called. T.I. was arrested and released on bond.

Too Lit! Border Agent Pleads Guilty to Accidentally Starting a Wildfire During a Gender Reveal Party, Fined $220K

An Arizona border patrol agent accidentally started a wildfire with a firearm and explosives during a gender reveal party and has been ordered to pay a hefty fine.

via Complex:

Arizona Daily Star reports that border patrol agent Dennis Dickey was off-duty at the time of the incident that resulted in a massive fire that quickly spread.

Dickey reportedly shot at the explosive Tannerite, with the color of the subsequent powder plume to reveal the expected sex of the baby. Blue symbolized boy and pink for girl. Things didn’t go exactly as planned.

At the time the blaze began, the National Weather Service had issued a fire watch warning. When Dickey shot at the target, the colored explosion ignited. Dickey reported the fire at the time of the incident, which went down back in April of 2017 close to Madera Canyon, and admitted he was responsible for the blaze.

“It was a complete accident,” Dickey said to the judge. “I feel absolutely horrible about it. It was probably one of the worst days of my life.” Dickey pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor offense of causing a fire without a permit, and has been ordered to pay a cool $ 220,000 in restitution. He will also serve five years of probation.

According to the Department of Justice, the Sawmill Fire that he caused resulted in over $ 8 million in damages. It eventually spread across an astonishing 47,000 acres over a week and around 800 firefighters were called on to fight the blaze.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

For those wondering, none of the news articles we’ve read about this story indicate whether he had a boy or a girl.
