DXL Posts Higher Losses in Q4, Will Close Rochester Stores

The losses at Destination XL Group continued to mount in the fourth quarter, despite higher comparable-store sales. But a new wholesale strategy and a new chief executive officer are expected to help the company improve its fortunes in 2019.
At the same time, the company revealed that it will close the remaining five Rochester Clothing stores — a more-upscale brand that it acquired in 2004 — by the end of the fiscal year.
In an earnings call Friday morning, David Levin, acting chief executive officer, said: “The growth in our DXL brand has slowly eroded the sales volume and profitability in our remaining Rochester, N.Y., stores, which are located in high rent metro areas.
“Much of our Rochester assortment will continue to be available on DXL.com and many Rochester brands can be found in DXL stores. With the exception of London, all of our Rochester stores are located in markets within close proximity to one or more DXL stores. In the U.S. we’re working on a customer transfer strategy to encourage our Rochester customers to migrate to nearby DXL stores, and we’re confident that once our Rochester customers discover the DXL experience they will become DXL loyalists.”

The Washington Post’s First Super Bowl Ad Spotlights Slain Journalists

(NEW YORK) — The Washington Post is debuting its first Super Bowl commercial, highlighting the often-dangerous work journalists do.

The ad, narrated by Tom Hanks, features journalists who have been killed or disappeared.

They include Jamal Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist who wrote critically about the Saudi crown prince. Khashoggi was killed in the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul in October. Also featured were Austin Tice, a freelance reporter missing in Syria for six years, and Marie Colvin, a Sunday Times correspondent who was killed in Syria.

In a memo to Post employees last week, publisher Fred Ryan said the newspaper felt “this is the right moment, at the right venue, to present this important message to the large audience of Americans and international viewers.”

The spot ended with the Post‘s slogan, “Democracy Dies in Darkness.”

Trina Braxton is speaking out for the first time since ex-husband Gabe Solis passed away due to cancer.

According to Trina, news of Gabe’s passing leaked before those closest to him knew and some of his family found out via social media — for which she apologizes.

“Unfortunately, someone leaked the story before we could make everyone aware of his passing, and I apologize to those friends and family members for finding out through social outlets.”

On December 20, 2018, a chapter permanently closed for my sons and I. For over 16 years, Gabe Solis was an essential part of our lives. Like all families, there are good and bad moments that are endured, but those moments, good or bad still made us who we are in the present. Unfortunately, someone leaked the story before we could make everyone aware of his passing, and I apologize to those friends and family members for finding out through social outlets. I also apologize directly to the Solis Family. I do humbly ask for your prayers for our families, but my greatest request is that when you are posting comments, remember Gabe’s passing is a loss for our family. He was a father to my boys, a son, brother, and friend to many and I would appreciate privacy and respect as we grieve his unexpected departure. @gabe_solis1234 I miss you, my dear friend.

Ariana Grande, Kanye West Feud Over Mental Health Turns Serious as Pete Davidson Posts Concerning Message

A Twitter spat between Ariana Grande and Kanye West over mental health took a serious turn on Saturday after Pete Davidson, an SNL star and Grande’s ex-fiance, posted a message on social media that some took as suicidal.

The tiff between the two musicians began when Grande waded into a feud between West and the music star Drake yesterday.

Drake and West and have notoriously had a contentious relationship since at least 2011, according to ELLE. Their feud was apparently reignited in September, when Drake made a snide reference to the sneakers West designs in a song. Then on December 13, Drake requested sampling a portion of Kanye’s song in one of his compositions. Soon afterward, Kanye launched into a Twitter rant that lasted more than 100 tweets.

Grande responded to the very public dispute with a teasing tweet of her own.

“Guys, I know there are grown men arguing online rn but miley and I dropping our beautiful, new songs tonight so if y’all could please jus behave for just like a few hours so the girls can shine that’d be sick thank u,” Grande wrote on Twitter, which she later deleted.

West did not take kindly to Grande’s intrusion and suggested that she was inserting herself into the beef to promote her new song, “Imagine,” which released Friday.

Grande then apologized for being insensitive about West’s mental health, but fired back at him for suggesting she was promoting herself.

“With all due respect, I don’t need to use anyone to promote anything. period. I was making a comment ab what men were doing at the time v.s. women. It was a joke which I understand now was probably insensitive. I apologize if I was in any way triggering and I hope u feel well today,” Grande tweeted. She later deleted her tweet.

This morning, Davidson appeared to side with West in an Instagram post.

“Bravo Kanye West for standing up for yourself and speaking out against [sic] mental health,” his post read. “I can’t explain to you enough how difficult and scary it is to be honest about stuff like this. We need people like Kanye. No one should ever point fingers at you for your bravery in speaking about mental health. I’m seriously disgusted.”

A few hours later, however, Davidson published another message that struck an even more serious tone.

“I really don’t want to be on this earth anymore. I’m doing my best to stay here for you but I actually don’t know how much longer I can last,” Davidson wrote.

Davidson, who has spoken out frequently about having bipolar disorder and suicidal tendencies, appeared to suggest that he was feeling suicidal. Soon afterward, he deleted both messages.

Earlier this month, Davidson wrote on Instagram:

“I’ve been getting online bullied and in public by people for 9 months. I’ve spoken about BPD and being suicidal publicly only in the hopes that it will help bring awareness and help kids like myself who don’t want to be on this earth,” he wrote. “No matter how hard the internet or anyone tries to make me kill myself. I won’t. I’m upset I even have to say this.”

In since-deleted tweets, Grande apologized for being insensitive about mental health issues.

“Man I’m so sorry I told a dumb joke. I really didn’t mean any harm. All I want everyone to be healthy and happy. so desperately,” she tweeted.

Soon afterwards, she tweeted seemingly at Davidson: “I’m downstairs and I’m not going anywhere if you need anyone or anything. I know u have everyone u need and that’s not me, but I’m here too.”

TMZ reported that she had made her way to 30 Rock in Manhattan, where SNL is filmed, in order to try and see Davidson.

Davidson was accounted for at SNL and “fine,” according to the New York Times.

Though Ariana Grande’s been putting on a brave face for the past few months it’s becoming obvious that Mac Miller’s sudden death has indeed affected her in ways we can’t really comprehend. After rumors swirled that Mac’s overdose played a part in her breakup with Pete Davidson (he’s publicly stated he smokes weed to deal with his mental issues), Ariana took to IG to post a video of her and Miller during better days.

In the video the “Sweetner” singer posted recently we see Mac Miller getting dipped for The Oscars the couple attended with the help his mother Joan and grandmother, Nonna.

Unfortunately, that was the last time the couple had a public outing as they broke up a few months later in May of 2017. Obviously, Mac still holds a special place in Ariana Grande’s heart.

Check out the heartbreaking video below.
