Kevin Durant Faces Long Recovery, Good Prognosis After Achilles Rupture, Experts Say

The ruptured Achilles tendon that took Golden State Warrior Kevin Durant out of the NBA Finals is a devastating injury that usually requires up to a year of recovery after surgery.

“Basketball’s the most stressful sport for the tendons, with all the jumping,” said Dr. David McAllister, Chief of the Sports Medicine Service at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine.

Durant had just returned to playing after being sidelined by a calf injury when the Achilles disaster played out on screens around the world during Game 5. The two-time champion was scoring basket after basket—and then suddenly he was sitting on the side of the court, clutching his leg.

Ant McPartlin ‘leaves I’m A Celebrity WhatsApp group to concentrate on recovery’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ant McPartlin has taken a step back from an ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ WhatsApp group to “concentrate on himself”.
The 43-year-old TV presenter has taken some time off from work commitments after he was convicted of drink-driving earlier this year and had a stint in rehab, and Phillip Schofield has revealed his pal isn’t part of the annual chat with his usual co-host Declan Donnelly and Holly Willoughby, who has stepped in for Ant on the reality series.
When asked if Ant has aired his thoughts on the current series, Phil said: “I think Ant is concentrating on himself and so, no, we’re all letting him get well.
“It’s me, Dec and Holly. I started it when they went out. We had a couple of chats before that.”
Phil admitted he usually has a group chat with Ant and Dec when they host the Australian jungle-based show, and this year he knew Holly was “comfortable” guest co-hosting the programme when he received a message from her during a commercial break on a live show.
He added to Mirror Online: “Both Ant and Dec and myself have also got a WhatsApp group for when they were out there. They’re very much like me. You can text or WhatsApp someone during a commercial break or long VT.
“It took Holly a day or two to settle in. I got the first WhatsApp from her on the group during a commercial break and though, ‘That’s it, she’s comfortable.’ ”
Dec previously admitted he didn’t want another guy to replace Ant on this year’s show.
Speaking last month, he said: “As always I’m incredibly excited to be heading to Oz for ‘I’m A Celebrity’.
“It is obviously tinged with sadness that Ant won’t be coming this year, I’m going to really miss him, but it’s only for one series and he’ll be back stronger next year.
“I didn’t want to host this series with another guy so Holly was top of my list.”

OAKLAND, Calif.Kaiser Permanente, the nation’s largest integrated health system, committed up to $ 1.65 million to support relief and recovery efforts in communities affected by the recent California wildfires.

Kaiser Permanente is committing up to $ 1 million to the American Red Cross and other organizations to help Camp Fire victims in Northern California. The funds will support community-based and faith-based organizations helping people recover from these disasters. Kaiser Permanente has also deployed medical and nursing volunteers to provide care to displaced families and seniors now living in shelters.

The health system will also provide $ 500,000 to the United Way of Greater Los Angeles for immediate relief efforts as well as longer-term recovery support to organizations serving low-income residents.

Another $ 150,000 will go to Ventura County Community Foundation, with $ 50,000 specifically allocated to the foundation for organizational capacity support and the balance to provide shelter and long-term housing, financial and rental assistance, legal services, health care and more for those affected by the Woolsey and Hill fires in Southern California. For the next eight weeks, Kaiser Permanente is offering crisis support groups to the community for those impacted by the Thousand Oaks shooting and the fires.

In early November, massive, deadly wildfires broke out in Butte County in Northern California and in Ventura and Los Angeles counties in Southern California, destroying thousands of homes and displacing scores of people, including many vulnerable seniors. During that time, Kaiser Permanente worked alongside organizations including the American Red Cross and the United Way of Greater Los Angeles to provide support and determine the needs of the communities.

“The Red Cross is grateful for the commitment of Kaiser Permanente whose generosity helps provide shelter, food and comfort for people affected by the devastating wildfires in California,” said Don Herring, chief development officer at the American Red Cross.

“We are grateful for the fast response and generous aid Kaiser Permanente provided to United Way of Greater Los Angeles’ Disaster Relief Fund,” said Elise Buik, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Los Angeles. “This is a critical time, and this contribution will help vulnerable individuals and families rebuild their lives.”

Kaiser Permanente has a long-standing commitment to the health of communities across the country, including during times of natural disaster. Kaiser Permanente has so far committed more than $ 8 million during 2017 and 2018 to support relief and recovery efforts, including mental health services, for survivors of natural disasters such as the fires in Northern California, the Thomas Fire in Southern California, Hurricane Harvey in the southeast United States, and Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

Demi Moore Opens Up About Her Recovery: ‘I Was Spiraling Down a Path of Real Self-Destruction’

Demi Moore was named woman of the year at the Peggy Albrecht Friendly House’s 29th Annual Awards Luncheon on Saturday — and she took the opportunity to get candid about her own recovery.

Friendly House offers a “safe, structured and supportive home-like environment” for women recovering from substance use, according to its website. During her acceptance speech at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, the actress, 55, explained why the non-profit’s mission strikes a chord with her.

“I feel like there are defining moments in our lives that shape who we are and the direction we go, and early in my career, I was spiraling down a path of real self-destruction, and no matter what successes I had, I just never felt good enough,” explained Moore, who noted that she was “grateful” for her supportive daughters with ex Bruce Willis, Rumer, 30, Scout, 27, and Tallulah, 24.

“I had absolutely no value for myself,” Moore continued. “And this self-destructive path, it very quickly … brought me to a real crisis point. And it wasn’t clear at the time the reason — maybe it was divine intervention — but two people who I barely knew stepped up and took a stand for me, and they presented me with an opportunity.”

“In fact, it was more like an ultimatum … unless I was dead, that I better show up,” she said. “They gave me a chance to redirect the course of my life before I destroyed everything. Clearly, they saw more of me than I saw of myself. And I’m so grateful because without that opportunity, without their belief in me, I wouldn’t be standing here today.”

Moore went to rehab for drug and alcohol addiction in the mid-1980s. In January 2012, after months of partying and drastic weight loss, Moore collapsed into convulsions at her L.A. home and was hospitalized before going to rehab for addiction and an eating disorder, sources told PEOPLE at the time.

“I know in a moment of great struggle for me, I reached out to a wise teacher and expressed my fear that I wasn’t good enough,” Moore concluded her speech. “And she said, ‘You will never be good enough but you can know the value of your worth. Put down the measuring stick.’ So today, I put down the measuring stick and I thank you for this beautiful acknowledgment and the opportunity to know the value of my worth.”

“I think the root of what really fulfills us in life is being of service,” Moore shared with reporters at the event.

Soleil Moon Frye gushed about the “special, brilliant, beautiful, incredible, enlightening” Moore at the luncheon.

“She listens, and she shared so much wisdom, and she’s been in every one of my birthing rooms and helped deliver every one of my babies,” the former Punky Brewster actress told reporters. “She has always shown up for me, and I love her with all my heart.”
