One of the best things about beauty and makeup is the fact that there aren’t any rules. The real name of the game is creativity. You can use eyeshadow as blush or even lipstick as eyeshadow. If you can make it work AND feel good about it, by all means, do it.

Meghan Markle and her longtime beauty guru, Daniel Martin, are proponents of this multi-use philosophy. In a recent interview with E! News, the celebrity makeup master shared a valuable tip that can save you a ton of money on highlighters. If you’ve been loving the Duchess of Sussex’s natural yet gorgeous glow, then you’ll be happy to know it doesn’t actually take much to achieve. The secret is out and it’s called Aquaphor.

If you’re not yet familiar with the under-$ 5 healing balm, it’s an ointment used to treat dry, cracked and aggravated skin. “Before highlighters, you would do highlighting with Aquaphor,” Martin shared in the interview. “Aquaphor will give you that same texture, especially in a photo [when applied] on the high points of the face.” Very enlightening information, if you ask us.

That’s not all. Aquaphor packs a mean punch when it comes to its range of uses. Due to its healing properties, it can be used to prevent skin from scarring or treat mild eczema. If you’re not liking the flaky aftermath from using Retin-A, the glycerin in the ointment will help counteract it. And because of its crazy hydrating action, it makes an amazing nighttime eye cream, lip balm or eye gloss, and it’s great for removing eye makeup in a pinch. Best of all, it’s non-comedogenic, so there’s no need to worry about breakouts.

Next time you’re at the drugstore, be sure to pick up a tube or three of Aquaphor and we promise, it will be your new best friend.

2018 is undoubtedly the year of royal weddings, with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tying the knot in May and Princess Eugenie set to wed her partner Jack Brooksbank in October.

While the millennial couples are reported to be very close – living just a stone’s throw from each other in Kensington Palace, sharing a wedding year is undoubtedly making them even closer, with Princess Eugenie reportedly taking a few leaves out of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s book.

Both weddings share St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, as a venue and both incorporate environmentally friendly details, but it’s the guest list that really shows their similarities, with both couples inviting members of the public to attend inside the Precints of Windsor Castle.

And it doesn’t stop there – both weddings are set to be A-list, with Harry and Meghan’s going down as one of the most star-studded in history.

So who are the famous faces we can expect to see in the pews at Eugenie and Jack’s October wedding?

Well, James Blunt, Pippa Middleton, Jack Whitehall, Jimmy Carr and Cara Delevingne to name a few. There were even rumours at one point that Ellie Goulding might be a bridesmaid.

But it’s Amal and George Clooney that everyone has been talking about this week, with the previous attendees at Harry and Meghan’s wedding rumoured to be making a return to St George’s Chapel for Eugenie’s nuptials.

But how do the A-list couple know the royals? Well, it’s actually Groom-to-be Jack Brooksbank that boasts the celebrity connection.

Jack is actually an ambassador for George and Rande Gerber’s company, Casamigos Tequila, in the UK.

The best news? You might actually be able to attend alongside Amal and George.

So if you missed an invitation to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, here’s hoping you’re in luck with Princess Eugenie’s.

Thomas Markle Proves How Profitable A Royal Relative Can Be

Photo Illustration by Lyne Lucien/The Daily Beast

Maybe all Meghan Markle’s troublesome dad is interested in is money. So why don’t the royals try paying him off? It’s not like they haven’t done that before.

In his interview with the Sun on Sunday, Thomas Markle showed a razor-sharp understanding of the root cause of the problems between himself and his daughter and the British royal family; his pursuit of money.

“The reason I am being shunned is because I made a profit on the staged pictures. Anyone who makes a profit off the Royal Family becomes shunned. But I could have made well over $ 100,000 by just doing a talk show. Half of Great Britain seems to make a fortune selling pictures of my daughter and her husband. Are they shunned?”

Meghan Markle’s Father Believes She’s ‘Terrified’ Of New Royal Duties

(Pjoto credit: AP)

This dude has got to be the most unsupportive father of all-time. We’re referring to Thomas Markle, father of newly crowned Duchess of Sussex – Meghan Markle – who continues to fire off threats and accusations about his daughter and the Royal family.

In a new interview, he let it rip about how he really feels about the Royal Wedding, his staged paparazzi pictures, and Meghan’s transition from American actress to Duchess.

Thomas, 73, believes his daughter is terrified and overwhelmed with her new duties:

“My thing about my daughter right now is that I think she is terrified. I see it in her eyes, I see it in her face and I see it in her smile. This one isn’t even a stage smile – this is a pained smile…That might be just having a couple of bad days. I don’t know. It really worries me. I think she’s under too much pressure,” he said.

He also believes Meghan’s new dress code is outdated.

“Meghan seems like something out of an old movie…Why in 2018 are we dressing like the 1930s? Why do they have to cover their knees?”

Thomas feels he’s being shunned as punishment for making a profit from the press.

“The reason I am being shunned is because I made a profit on the staged pictures. Anyone who makes a profit off the Royal Family becomes shunned.”

He continued: “But I could have made well over $ 100,000 by just doing a talk show…So if I moved to London and started selling cups with my daughter’s face on, would they shun me? The Royal Family is living by rules that are outdated. Half of Great Britain seems to make a fortune selling pictures of my daughter and her husband. Are they shunned? I have already apologized to the Royal Family. I honestly think that if the Queen took the time to think that she would not see me because I did some stupid photographs, that is ridiculous.”

On his Royal Wedding absence, Markle said, “Every time I see or hear about that wedding, I am paying for it. It’s not easy. Anytime anyone comes up to me and says, ‘So sorry, your daughter looked beautiful’. For the rest of my life I’ve got to live that down.”

Adding: ” I should have been there. Everyone was saying I was too terrified to walk her down the aisle, but I was ready to do it. I had a speech written. Meghan looked absolutely beautiful.”

Thomas explained that his disappointment that Meghan’s family wasn’t made a priority at the Royal Wedding:

“…Harry and Meghan have friends who are high rollers. They are all stars. But in a way it would have been nice if some of her old friends and wider family were there. I thought it was wrong to have Doria seated by herself…There was no reason why she couldn’t have been with the royals.”

Meghan Markle married Prince Harry at the St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in England on May 19, 2018.

Royal Wedding trip guide (for people not from the UK)

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you’ll know that there is a pretty special event coming up. No, it’s not your yearly vacation or your birthday (although that is kinda important), it’s the royal wedding! Sure, were pretty upset that Prince Harry will finally be off the market, but we can’t wait to see the dress that Meghan Markle wears on the big day. As these two lovebirds exchange their nuptials, you can guarantee that people from around the world will descend onto London to share the excitement. So, it’s probably best you know where you’re going and what you’re doing…

Where to stay

Because the royal wedding is kind of a big deal, there will be thousands of people making their way into London in the run-up to the main event, and they will all be looking for somewhere to stay. Most tourists will try to stay as close to the center of London or Windsor as they could possibly be – which means it’s best to avoid it. It’s best to stay clear of these two hotspots and venture into the outskirts of London. This way, you can find the hotels that haven’t already been booked up, and those that are a little cheaper.

How to get around

It doesn’t matter if you’re two or ten miles away from London, you’re still going to be able to get around. England has one of the best train and underground systems in the world – and it’s super easy to use! You can buy yourself an Oyster Card (no, it doesn’t taste like oysters) and make your way around London and the surroundings as you hop on and off the public transport. You can either take yourself off to a traditional English pub to watch the events unfold with a glass of Pimms in your hand, or you could stand outside Buckingham Palace and join the hubbub of people all celebrating the marriage.

Where to go

For one day only, the pubs in and around England are staying open extra late to celebrate Harry and Meghan, which means it’s the perfect opportunity to see what all the fuss is all about and try your very first bite of bangers and mash. Although almost every single pub in the UK will be showing the wedding on their television screens, you might also want to check out the other celebrations that are on offer. If you fancy rubbing shoulders with the married couple themselves on the day, you can make your way to Madame Tussauds, where you can see the new waxwork figures of Meghan and Harry as they are unveiled! Once you’re done, make your way to one of the many open-top bus tours in London and Windsor to see the celebrations from above and take some epic pictures. If you’re lucky, you might even stumble upon a British street party, where you can hang with the locals and wear a union jack around your neck. You know you want to.

If you’re going to the UK to witness the royal wedding in all of its glory, you’re going to need a little help – because you’re not the only ones. The best way to get the ultimate royal experience is to plan in advance. Book your flights, book your hotel, and plan where you want to go and what you want to do before you leave! Trust us; you’ll thank us for it after…

Meghan Markle makes her royal ascot debut in style

OHMYGOSSIP — Exactly one month after the world watched the royal wedding, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made a surprise appearance in England Tuesday for the Royal Ascot opener. Queen Elizabeth II, her family and her guests will arrive at 2 p.m. each day during the royal procession, where they’ll be driven in horse-drawn carriages down the race track and into the pageant ring, E! Online mediates.

It’s the first time Meghan has attended the annual event, which began in 1768. She wore a Givenchy dress—the same label she wore for her wedding day—and a Philip Treacy fascinator. She likely impressed Queen Elizabeth II, who signs off on every detail, including the dress code.

Queen Elizabeth II arrived in the first carriage, joined by Prince Andrew, Princess Anne and Lord Samuel Vestey. Princess Beatrice, Prince Charles, Princess Eugenie and Camilla Parker-Bowles sat in the second carriage; Meghan and Harry joined Prince Edward and Countess Sophie in the third carriage; and Prince Michael of Kent, Princess Michael of Kent, Lord de Mauley Rupert Ponsonby and Lady de Mauley Lucinda Ponsonby sat in the fourth carriage. Prince William, meanwhile, was busy exploring the International Business Festival in Liverpool, and Mike Tindall and Zara Tindall welcomed Baby No. 2, a girl, Monday in Stroud.

Before the Royal Ascot, Kensington Palace announced Meghan and Harry will visit Dublin, Ireland on July 10 and July 11, at the request of Her Majesty’s Government. “The Duke and Duchess are looking forward to learning more about Ireland’s history and experiencing its rich culture,” the palace said, “as well as meeting the people who are shaping the country’s future.”

Here’s how Prince George comforted a crying bridesmaid at the royal wedding

Adorable.

prince george

Prince George really stepped up to the plate on the day of the royal wedding, going beyond his duties as a royal page boy to deal with a crisis outside the chapel.

In an episode of their royals-focused podcast, On Heir, Emily Andrews and Omid Scobie have shared a heartwarming story of how the little prince comforted one of the bridesmaids ahead of the ceremony.

‘Poor Zalie Warren had a bit of a meltdown,’ Andrews said. ‘She’s only two. She started crying when they were waiting for Meghan. It was only a couple of minutes.

‘So Nanny Maria Borrallo kind of looked after her, and George apparently was trying to comfort her as well, which is very sweet.’

Bless him!

George and Charlotte’s nanny, Maria Teresa Turion Borrallo, was on hand on the day to help manage the 10 bridesmaids and page boys, who all posed for official photographs after the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Princess Charlotte also took on a more organisational role when it came to herding up the bridesmaids.

‘There was one [bridesmaid] who wanted to go and she said, “no, you can’t go yet, we have to wait until we are asked,”‘ one wedding guest told People. ‘She was very organised!’

Looks like George and Charlotte have been taught well when it comes to handling public appearances.

Five Prominent But Lesser-Known Black Dignitaries At Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding

The Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and now, Meghan Markle, Dutchess of Sussex, had the world’s attention over the weekend. For about 15 minutes, The Most Reverend Michael Bruce Curry’s impassioned speech on love captivated hearts, too. Even more talked about were some of the black celebrities in attendance, such as Oprah Winfrey, Idris Elba, and Serena Williams.

Also in attendance were some high-ranking black notables who work in different sectors of British and American societies:

Rose Hudson-Wilkin

For years, Hudson-Wilkin had been tipped to be in the first cohort of women to become bishops in the Church of England. Since 2014, the 64-year-old priest has been Priest-in-Charge of St Mary-at-Hill, City of London. She also holds the roles of Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons, priest vicar at Westminster Abbey, and the first black female chaplain to the queen. She was previously vicar of Holy Trinity Church, Dalston and All Saints Church in Haggerston.

Colleen Harris

Harris held a senior communications position in the Prime Minister’s Office before being appointed Press Secretary to the Prince of Wales. She handled the media for the prince during some of the most turbulent years, and also media-managed the emergence of Princes William and Harry into the public eye. Her career has included senior posts in the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office and the Cabinet Office, as well as in non-departmental public bodies. She has worked in Britain and abroad as a consultant with private companies, non-profit organizations and U.N agencies, including the World Health Organization.

Bishop Michael Curry

Michael Curry made history in 2015 after his installation as the Episcopal Church’s presiding bishop over its 1.8 million members—becoming the denomination’s first African American spiritual leader. Having been on the job for less than a year, Curry took a public stance supporting gay marriage, a move that earned the Episcopal Church a three-year sanction by the Anglican Communion. Anglican leaders then stripped the Episcopal Church of any role in deciding doctrine or determining how the Anglican Communion operates for three years. Curry was born in 1953 in Chicago to Dorothy Curry and Rev. Kenneth Curry, who was a Baptist before becoming an Episcopalian priest. He said his father became part of the church after he and his mother had been allowed to drink from the same chalice being passed among white parishioners in racially segregated Ohio. Bishop Curry became the talk of social media with his heartfelt sermon at the royal wedding.

Sheku Kanneh-Mason

Along with an orchestra made up of instrumentalists from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the English Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra, Sheku Kanneh-Mason played three songs during the couple’s Signing of the Register. At just 19, Kanneh-Mason is the first black cellist or musician to ever win BBC’s Young Musician of the Year award in its 38-year history. He reached the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent in 2015, and he was a member of the Chineke! Orchestra, the first professional orchestra in Europe that is made up of mainly musicians of color. His sister Isata, and brother Braimah are also members.

Tessy Ojo

Tessy Ojo

Tessy Ojo is the Chief Executive Officer of the Diana Awards, the only charity that bears the name of the late Princess Diana of Wales. Established in 1999 to recognize young people for extraordinary work in their local communities, the charity benefits from the support of The Royal Highness, Prince William and Prince Harry, as well as the UK Prime Minister. Ojo is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a member of the Institute of Directors. She was awarded The Precious Award, Inspiring Leader in 2015, Women in Business Rising Star, and Excellence Award from Eva Longoria’s Global Gift Foundation. Prior to joining the Diana Award, Ojo worked in the corporate sector for over 10 years and helped implement the operational planning systems for IBM UK and Borders UK. Along with her role at Diana Awards, Ojo is on the boards of two charities and sits on the governing board of a chain of academies in London.

FASHION DEAL UPDATE:

How the Royal Wedding is Fighting Period Poverty

Last month, following in the footsteps of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge—Prince William and Kate Middleton, whose 2011 nuptials raised $ 1.7 million for 21 organizations across the U.K.—Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced seven organizations that they hoped members of the public and guests would donate to in lieu of purchasing them a gift. Among them was the Myna Mahila foundation, a Mumbai based non-profit that helps to distribute affordable menstrual hygiene products to women in the city’s slums.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. (Wikimedia / Creative Commons)

“It’s unusual [to have someone from the royal family supporting a charity like this] if you look at the royals broadly.” Arianne Chernock, an associate professor of history at Boston University whose research focuses on gender, culture and the British monarchy, told Ms. “But if you look at this generation, specifically, William and Harry and Meghan and Kate, it doesn’t seem that unusual. They’ve already begun to push the envelope in terms of the kinds of causes that they’re advocating and directly supporting. We’ve seen that around mental health [and] support for gay youth.”

Britain has also seen its own growing menstrual equity movement. “I think in [the United States] there…isn’t as much discussion around period poverty as there is in Britain,” Chernock says, pointing out that recent years have seen women in Britain take up highly visible protests against the tampon tax, free bleeding in white pants in front of Parliament in London. “There have been a number of headlines in recent years, some really shocking headlines that were published fairly recently, about the number of women who are dealing with period poverty. I think it’s on Britain’s mind.”

It’s also long been on Markle’s mind. “If you look at her advocacy, this is clearly an issue she cares about,” Chernock noted, adding that Markle’s passion is reminiscent of the legacy of another much-beloved social justice-oriented royal. “This kind of work really feeds on [the kind of work] Princess Diana was doing. We sometimes forget just how much she helped change the public conversation about AIDS by being willing to shake hands with early AIDS victims. She showed that the royal family could really help change the public dialogue and channel goodwill towards really important causes.”

As an 11-year old in 1993, Markle wrote to former First Lady Hillary Clinton and to Proctor & Gamble to protest a sexist detergent ad, suggesting the company change the language in their ad from “women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans” to “people all over America.” The company later changed their commercial according to Markle’s suggestion. In 2015, in her role as a United Nations Women’s Advocate for Political Participation and Leadership, Markle began her remarks at a UN Women conference with a bold declaration: “I am proud to be a woman and a feminist.”

The humanitarian and now former actor traveled to India with World Vision Canada, the Canadian Arm of international Christian charity World Vision, in January 2017 and shadowed women working at Myna Mahila. Later that year, Markle authored an essay for Time detailing the wide ranging effects shame around menstruation can pose for girls—including a lack of access to proper supplies due to culturally-imposed silences around menstruation that sometimes becomes an end to their education.

Currently, 40 percent of women in India do not have access to sanitary products, placing staggering barriers on their ability to attend school. Menstruation is still considered taboo in India, and women are forbidden from entering temples or preparing certain foods while menstruating. (“Myna” from the group’s name is a reference to the “chatty” myna bird, while “mahila” means women in Hindi; underscoring the organization’s focus on “empowering women to speak about issues they are most afraid to discuss aloud.”)

Myna Mahila is only organization from outside of the U.K. among the seven the couple chose to highlight to receive donations from their wedding. In addition to distributing menstrual hygiene products to women, Mynha Mahila also conducts research about women’s menstrual hygiene and health and educates women about topics ranging from financial literacy to business skills and English language. The organization employs 15 women from the local area to work on production, operations, sales and education and 50 more to distribute the products door to door; some of their employees will go on to form franchises of their own.

Speaking at the foundation’s first annual forum in February,  Markle told audience members: “Women don’t need to find a voice. They have a voice. They need to be empowered to use it and people need to be encouraged to listen.” Markle will announce her formal patronages in the coming weeks, and women’s rights will likely play a prominent role in her global platform. She’ll likely also take on a role in the Royal Foundation, the philanthropy organization currently run by Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

Markle’s encouragement for royal guests and British communities alike to support Myna Mahila is a direct indication that she intends to continue her advocacy for women as she steps into a new role on the global stage. Should she decide to use it to further shatter silence and challenge stigma, women and girls around the world could also continue to reap the benefits.

To celebrate, FANDOM went through Crunchyroll’s anime catalog and found a few anime shows that will put you in a grand mood.  So, here are six anime to get you ready for the royal wedding.

Yona of the Dawn

Anime to Get You Ready for the Royal Wedding Yona of the Dawn

The Kingdom of Kouka has only one person in line for the throne, the 15-year-old princess Yona. The sheltered princess expects to have a fantastic birthday celebration with her father King il, her friend and bodyguard Hak, and her older cousin (and love interest) Soo-Won. But, things don’t go as planned. Yona witnesses Soo-Won murdering the king.

Now, with the king dead, Soo-Won claims the crown. Hak and Yona must flee the palace for their lives. But it is only when Yona leaves the comfort of the palace that she sees the impact of her father’s rule. The Kingdom of Kouka lies in ruin due to poverty, conflicts, and corruption. Reclaiming the throne will be more difficult than she initially thought. Even so, she’s determined to grow from a naïve young princess to a fierce warrior.

Based on Mizuho Kusanagi’s manga of the same name, Yona of the Dawn tells the tale of a young woman forced to face the dark truths surrounding her country, father, and the person she used to love. But despite how dire her situation may be, Yona — with Hak by her side — decides to face these hardships in hopes of restoring her country to its former glory.

Snow White with the Red Hair

Anime to Get You Ready for the Royal Wedding Snow White with the Red Hair

Despite having the same title as one of Disney’s most famous fairy tales, Snow White with the Red Hair is nothing like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Ever since she was a young girl living in the Kingdom of Tanbarun, Shirayuki has gained attention due to her rare, apple-red hair color. Years later, she runs an herbalist shop and receives the same attention — but, this time, from the prince of Tanbarun. Instead of romancing her, as any normal fairy tale prince would do, Raji Shenazard demands that Shirayuki become his concubine.

Unwilling to give up her freedom, Shirayuki cuts her mane and escapes into the woods. There she meets Zen Wistaria, the prince of the neighboring country of Clarines, and his two aides. In exchange for healing the prince’s injury, he invites Shirayuki to come to his kingdom.

In Clarines, the girl with the red hair sets out to follow her passion by becoming an apprentice court herbalist. But that isn’t her only goal. She also wants to stay close to the charming young prince. Will their social standings keep them apart, or will love conquer all?

Code Geass

Anime to Get You Ready for the Royal Wedding Code Geass

Thanks to its military might, the Holy Britannian Empire rules over one-third of the world. In the 21st century, Britannia invades Japan using giant robot weapons called Knightmare Frames. Now the rest of the world refers to Japan as “Area 11,” and its people as “Elevens.”

An exiled Britannian who was living in Japan at the time, Lelouch Lamperouge, vowed to his Japanese friend Suzaku that he’d destroy Britannia for all the harm it has caused. Years later, Lelouch is in high school. But he rarely attends as he skips class to play chess and gamble against aristocrats. As small as this may be, it’s his way of fighting against Britannia.

One day, he stumbles upon a terrorist group of Elevens who have stolen a mysterious green-haired girl from a military convoy. Lelouch meets this strange girl, known as C.C., who offers him a great yet equally atrocious power — the Geass. With this new ability, Lelouch can get anyone to do his bidding, and he’s got his sights set on the Holy Britannian Empire. But will Lelouch exact retribution, or will he fall victim to the Geass’s curse?

Black Butler

Anime to Get You Ready for the Royal Wedding Black Butler

As the “Queen’s Guard Dog,” 10-year-old Ciel Phantomhive is the most powerful boy in all of England. However, the young Phantomhive has endured much suffering. He not only watched his beloved parents die in a fire, he also was abducted and violently tortured.

Desperate to see his parents’ murderers burn, he trades his soul to a demon for a chance to exact revenge on them. This demon, known as Sebastian Michaelis, now serves as Ciel’s butler. He will protect and serve his young master. But he can’t wait to make a delicious meal out of Phantomhive’s soul.

With countless faithful servants and Sebastian on his side, the Queen’s lapdog will confront some formidable enemies in England’s high society as he searches for his parents’ murderers.

It’s the year 320, and the truculent King Andragoras III of the Kingdom of Pars wages war with the neighboring empire of Lusitania. However, his son, the young prince Arslan is nothing like his father. The boy is a gentle and empathetic individual who is kind to everyone. Even so, as the future king of Pars, he must prove his strength on the battlefield.

However, during his first battle, everything goes wrong. One of the king’s most trusted officials, Kharlan, betrays King Andragoras III.  This allows Lusitanian forces to destroy the Parsan army and assume control over the royal city, Ecbatana. With the military in a mess and the Lusitanians out for his head, Arslan goes on the run. Luckily, he evades capture until his loyal friend Daryun, the formidable Black Knight of Pars, finds him.

With Ecbatana under the rule of Lusitania, Arslan and Daryun must surround themselves with warriors and advisors as the prince searches for a way to liberate the city. But first, he must learn what it means to rule.

The Royal Tutor

Anime to Get You Ready for the Royal Wedding The Royal Tutor

The “Royal Tutor” is an exceptional tutor responsible for educating members of the monarchy. They are also considered to be the best teacher in the nation. The charismatic yet strict royal tutor, Heine Wittgenstein is a brilliant man who deserves respect. But, he often doesn’t get it thanks to his short, childlike appearance.

Still, the king of Granzreich has called upon Heine to attempt a difficult task, one that has driven away many of Heine’s colleagues. The king orders Heine to raise a worthy candidate for the throne. But there’s more to this request than meets the eye. At first glance, the princes have all the charisma and delicacy that you would expect from members of the monarchy. However, in actuality, the four princes are a bunch of troublemakers.

Laughter and a ton of headaches await Heine as he tries to form a bond with each of the young princes to groom them for the throne. How will Heine handle these brothers who were too much for the previous royal tutors to handle?

Michael Curry, Pioneering Bishop, To Speak At Royal Wedding

Presiding bishop Michael Curry of the American Episcopal Church will give a sermon at the royal wedding this Saturday, May 19. Kensington Palace confirmed on Twitter last Saturday that “Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle have asked that The Most Reverend Michael Bruce Curry, the 27th Presiding Bishop and Primate of The Episcopal Church, will give the address at their wedding.” He will join the dean of Windsor, the Rt. Rev. David Conner, and the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, who will officiate the service.

Although Prince Harry and Markle do not have a personal relationship with the reverend, the couple decided on Curry after discussions with the Archbishop of Canterbury, according to UK’s Telegraph. Curry, 65, is described as a “high energy” evangelical preacher who shook up the face of Episcopalianism.

History Maker

In November 2015, the Episcopal Church, historically one of the faiths of the nation’s white elite, installed Michael Bruce Curry as a presiding bishop over its 1.8 million members, becoming the denomination’s first African American spiritual leader.

The love that has brought and will bind Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle together has its source and origin in God, and is the key to life and happiness,” Curry said.

Curry has backed same-sex marriage and racial reconciliation. In his 2015 autobiography, Songs my Grandma Sang, Curry revealed that he and his family are descendants of slaves and sharecroppers in North Carolina and Alabama.

Curry has been active on social justice issues throughout his ministry, including speaking out on immigration policy and supporting marriage for same-sex couples, according to his biography on the Episcopal Church’s website.

Taking A Stand

In 2016, after the archbishops of the Anglican Communion imposed three-year sanctions on the Episcopal Church for its decision to allow clergy to perform same-sex marriages, Curry said the church will not roll back its acceptance of gay marriage. Anglican leaders then stripped the Episcopal Church of any role in deciding doctrine or determing how the Anglican Communion operates for three years.

They heard from me directly that that’s not something that we’re considering,” Curry told NBC News. “They basically understand we made our decision, and this is who we are, and we’re committed to being a house of prayer for all.”

Cute new photos are proof that even royal siblings wear hand-me-downs

Looks like love!

Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge had one extra guest at her third birthday party on May 2: Her new baby brother, Prince Louis. To mark the occasion, the royal palace released a new photo of Prince William and Duchess Kate’s two youngest kids sharing a very sweet sibling moment.

Like many of the family’s pictures, this one was snapped by the Duchess of Cambridge herself, and was taken at their home at Kensington Palace. Princess Charlotte seems to be adapting very well to her role as a big sister – we’ll see if that’s still the case when her brother starts chewing on her toys and tearing pages out of her favorite coloring books!

So adorable! Prince William and Duchess Kate shared another photo of their new arrival as well, this one showing the littlest Prince wide-eyed in his white knitted sweater and footed pants. These are the first photos of Louis that have been shared since the proud new parents brought him home from the hospital on April 23.

If your kids complain at having to wear their older siblings’ hand-me-downs all the time, these pictures are proof that it’s something even royals have to deal with. Princess Charlotte’s adorable navy cardigan in the picture above is the same one her big brother George wore in a photo celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday a couple of years ago. And Prince Louis appears to be wearing the same sweet set his sister had on in a similar photo shared shortly after her birth in 2015.

Royals – they’re just like us!

I must admit, my youngest daughter virtually lives in hand-me-downs from her older sister. Fortunately, for the most part she doesn’t seem to mind. And least not yet!

How do your kids feel about hand-me-downs?

Prince William and Kate Middleton Reveal Their Royal Baby Boy’s Name!

Introducing, Prince Louis!

Prince William and Kate Middleton have revealed the name they’ve chosen for their baby boy.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles,” Kensington Palace said in a statement Friday. “The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.”

While Will and Kate waited a few days before revealing their new baby’s name, that didn’t keep British oddsmakers from making predictions. William also teased his son’s name as he left the hospital. “You’ll find out soon enough,” he said with a smile.

And eagle-eyed fans even spotted a suspicious web page on the royal family’s official website with a URL containing the name Prince Albert (one of the top predictions).

Big brother Prince George was also given a name with special meaning. His full name, George Alexander Louis, was chosen with love and a nod to history.

The name George carries a lot of sentimental meaning to William’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, as it was the name picked by her beloved father when he became King George VI in 1936. Alexander is believed to have been picked by the couple to honor the Queen, whose middle name is Alexandra. Louis is likely a tribute to Prince Philip, whose grandfather was Prince Louis Alexander of Battenberg. Louis is also part of Prince William’s full name of William Arthur Philip Louis. It also has great meaning to William’s own father, Prince Charles, whose uncle and mentor, Earl Louis Mountbatten, was assassinated by the IRA in 1979.

When it came to choosing a name for their second-born child, Princess Charlotte, the royal parents paid tribute to William’s late mother, Princess Diana, and the almost 3-year-old princess’s full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

Will and Kate represented the baby’s grandfather, Prince Charles, by going for the female version of his name. And they included Princess Diana, which was a popular choice with friends and admirers of her legacy. They also added the ultimate nod to great-granny and reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth II.

The baby prince was born on Monday at 11:01 a.m. at 8lbs, 7oz. Just seven hours after giving birth to her third childKate Middleton appeared (in heels!) on the steps of the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital on Monday evening with Prince William by her side to introduce their new baby boy to the world.

Kate’s younger sister, Pippa, was one of the royal baby’s first visitors. Pippa, who is reportedly expecting her first child with husband James Matthews, arrived at Kensington Palace just one day after the prince was born.

Carole Middleton arrived at Kensington Palace on Wednesday to meet her newest grandson and to check in on daughter, Kate Middleton.

After the royal baby’s birth, Prince Charles released a humorous statement on behalf of himself and wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

“We are both so pleased at the news,” Charles said in a statement. “It is a great joy to have another grandchild, the only trouble is I don’t know how I am going to keep up with them.”

Queen Elizabeth celebrated the latest addition to her family with a quick horseback ride through the grounds of Windsor Castle, where she is staying with husband Prince Philip, who is still recovering from hip surgery.

What will Meghan Markle’s royal title be after she marries Prince Harry?

And why aren’t the public happy about it?

Geoff Pugh/REX/Shutterstock

The royal wedding is fast approaching, with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle set to wed on 19th May at St. George’s Chapel, in Windsor Castle.

With just a month to go until the big day, there’s plenty of wedding prep for the royal family to busy themselves with – everything from finding the perfect Philip Treacy-style fascinator and buying the newlyweds a fitting wedding present to creating a coat of arms for Thomas Markle, Meghan’s father – a traditional royal gift to the father of the bride.

Something that needs particular thought ahead of the big day however is the Queen’s gifts to the royal couple, with the monarch set to give Prince Harry not one but two royal titles as a wedding gift – expected to also bestow a royal title on his bride, Meghan.

But what will Meghan’s royal title be?

Meghan’s post-wedding title has reportedly been decided upon already, but to the dismay of the public it looks like despite technically being a princess of the UK, she won’t be given an actual princess title, most likely being given a Duchess title instead.

There are reports that Prince Harry is likely to be made the Duke of Sussex on his wedding day, in which case Meghan would be made the Duchess of Sussex – much like Kate and Wills’ titles, known officially as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

What will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal titles be?

There is a lot of speculation surrounding potential royal titles for Harry and Meghan but the top choices seem to be the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Duke and Duchess of Clarence and Avondale, the Duke and Duchess of Connaught or the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.

It looks like we’ll have to wait till May 19th to find out!

What will Prince William and Kate Middleton name the royal baby?

Everyone’s placing their bets…

kate middleton wedges

The Duchess of Cambridge’s due date is this month and now the whole world is not-so-patiently awaiting the arrival of Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s third baby – set to become fifth in line to the throne.

The Lindo Wing is ready, with barricades set up outside St. Mary’s Hospital in preparation for the Duke and Duchess’ arrival and their 23-strong royal birthing team is prepped and ready to go. That’s three midwives, two obstetricians, three anaesthesiologists, four surgical staff members, two special care staffers, four paediatricians, one lab technician for blood tests, and three or four managers.

The royal couple is said to be announcing the news that Kate is going into labour on Instagram for baby number 3, so until we get a social media update, royal fans have been busying themselves speculating what will happen after the birth.

Aside from predicting who the couple will appoint their new baby’s god parents (with fans campaigning for Meghan Markle to be god mother), the public’s attention has focused mainly on the royal baby name, with a lot of people placing bets.

What will the new royal baby name be?

We won’t know the new royal baby name until after his or her arrival, but judging by the bookies, there are some top favourites to bet on. It’s hard to know where to put your money yet, as the baby’s gender is still unknown, despite some believing that Prince William may have let the gender slip earlier this week, overheard joking that he wanted to name the baby ‘Jack’ after an Aston Villa player.

According to the multiple sources, the most likely royal baby names are Philip for a boy and a toss up between Mary and Alice for a girl. All the names are traditionally royal, with a number of past Princesses and in some cases Queens bearing the names Alice and Mary, and Philip being a tribute to Prince William’s grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh.

It looks like Prince Philip will be making the royal wedding post-surgery

‘His Royal Highness would like to convey his appreciation for the messages of good wishes he has received’

prince philip

The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to hospital earlier this month, with the royal family releasing a statement to break the news, explaining that the 96-year-old royal was undergoing surgery.

‘His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London this afternoon, for planned surgery on his hip which will take place tomorrow,’ read a statement from Buckingham Palace. ‘Further updates will be issued when appropriate.’

After over a week in King Edward VII’s hospital, Prince Philip was discharged today, waving to the crowds as he was driven away in a Land Rover.

‘His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh left King Edward VII’s Hospital at midday today, following a hip replacement operation last week,’ announced Buckingham Palace in a statement. ‘The Duke will continue his recovery at Windsor.’

The statement continued: ‘His Royal Highness would like to convey his appreciation for the messages of good wishes he has received.’

This is good news for royal fans who were worried that the Duke would not be able to make it to his grandson Prince Harry‘s wedding next month.

Luckily, it looks like Prince Philip will be there in high spirits, recovering in the very wedding venue – Windsor Castle – and expected to use a walking stick or crutches for the royal wedding.

We hope he’s feeling better for the big day!

Not Just Meghan Markle: Here Are 6 Royal Black Women Around the World

Since the announcement of her engagement to British royal family member and unlikely heir to the throne—he’s sixth in line—Prince Harry, the microscope has been on Meghan Markle.

Every detail is being inspected about her life including her family life. She is the product of a white father and black mother—a social worker who lives in the mostly African American L.A. suburb of View Park-Windsor Hills (incidentally, one of the wealthiest black suburbs in the country).

After the royal wedding, set for May 19th, Markle will be addressed as “Her Royal Highness” and becomes not only a senior royal but a duchess, according to The Telegraph.

It’s been a constant source of buzz—the first woman of color to become part of the British royal family. Yet, there are other black women royalnistas around the globe:

Princess Angela of Liechtenstein

Princess Angela (born Angela Gisela Brown) was a standout graduate of Parsons School of Design in New York and worked as a fashion director for Adrienne Vittadini, before marrying Prince Maximilian of Liechtenstein in January 2000. This Afro-Panamanian beauty also started her own line, A. Brown, which she headed for three years. The couple wed at the Church of St. Vincent Ferrer in New York, after reportedly meeting a few years earlier at a reception in the city. The princess wore a white dress which she designed and the same Kinsky royal-jeweled tiara that Princess Tatjana of Liechtenstein wore when she married Philipp von Lattorff in June 1999.

The Inglewood, California native started Wonderful Brand, a multifaceted business incorporating fashion, television, and web, with her husband, Kunle, a Nigerian prince. Known as the “Pantene Girl,” Omilana is cited as the first African American woman to be featured in three consecutive commercials.

Countess Mary Von Habsburg of Austria

Habsburg, a native of Sudan, is the wife of Ferdinand Leopold Joseph Count von Habsburg of Austria. The couple wed in August 1999, hosting their ceremony in Nairobi, Kenya, and have three children, all born in Nairobi. Their marriage was seen as controversial among the public and in royal circles, because of her class as a commoner and her ethnic background; but the head of the Habsburg royal family, Dr. Otto von Habsburg, reportedly declared all Habsburg marriages “equal.”

Nine Inch Nails announce Royal Albert Hall show

OHMYGOSSIP — Nine Inch Nails are set to make their Royal Albert Hall debut.
The American industrial band will perform at the iconic venue in Kensington, west London on June 24.
Lucy Noble, Artistic Director at the Royal Albert Hall, said in a statement: “We’re delighted to announce the Hall debut of one of the most innovative, influential and important rock acts of recent decades, the incomparable Nine Inch Nails. This career-spanning show will showcase the singular genius of Trent Reznor in a suitably iconic setting.”
The group – which were formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1988 – are best known for their hits ‘Closer’, ‘Hurt’ and ‘Head Like a Hole’.
Support will be provided by Black Moth Super Rainbow and tickets for the show are priced between £35 and £75.
Tickets will go on sale on Friday (16.03.18) at midday.
Meanwhile, frontman Trent Reznor recently revealed that the band’s EP – their third and final one in this trilogy – should be out ahead of their June performances.
Explaining why it has taken so long, he said: “We started out with a rigid concept, having not written them all. As we finished Add Violence we found ourselves … it felt too predictable. It felt like we were forcing things. Musically and storytelling-wise.
“The reason this has been delayed is because it took us a while for – what has become the third EP – to reveal itself to us. We’re in the process of finishing this right now and should be out before the shows take place.”

What Will Meghan Wear? Royal Wedding Dress A Top UK Secret

LONDON (AP) — Where does one shop for a wedding gown set to be the dress of the year — an outfit chic enough for a fashion-loving bride but suitable for a church so regal it’s the burial place of monarchs?

Everyone at London Fashion Week — and elsewhere — is dying to know.

With only three months to go before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s May 19 wedding at Windsor Castle, both the fashion and bridal worlds are abuzz with talk of who the bride will pick to design her dress and what kind of look she would go for.

It’s no wonder: There’s not been a bigger royal wedding since Harry’s brother Prince William married Kate Middleton in 2011 in an extravaganza broadcast around the world. Seven years later, Kate’s lacey, long-sleeved Alexander McQueen gown is still influencing bridal designs today.

“It’s going to be the greatest fashion commission of 2018. There’ll be millions of eyeballs on it,” said Jade Beer, editor at the British edition of Brides magazine. “It’s her major fashion moment.”

“She’ll definitely need an upgrade from the dress she wore for her first wedding,” Beer added, referring to the simple strapless white gown the American actress wore at her 2011 Jamaica beach wedding to film producer Trevor Engelson. The couple divorced in 2013.

While the design — as well as the designer — of the dress is a closely guarded secret, many are positive that Markle will choose a British designer.

Kate wasn’t the only bride in Britain’s extended royal family sticking with a British designer. Zara Phillips, Queen Elizabeth II’s second-eldest grandchild, wore royal couturier Stewart Parvin. In 1981, then-Lady Diana Spencer — the late mother of groom Harry — surprised many when she chose David and Elizabeth Emanuel, a pair of designers fresh out of college.

Front-runners for Markle’s choice include British-Canadian Erdem Moralioglu, known for his elegant, feminine styles; Ralph & Russo, the couture designers Markle chose for her engagement dress; heritage fashion powerhouse Burberry; as well as McQueen and Giles Deacon, who designed the wedding gown for Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton.

Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer on their wedding day at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.

Victoria Beckham has denied rumors that she’s been asked. French designer Roland Mouret has also been cited as a possible pick.

“I mean, she could surprise us all and choose a Canadian brand — she was so loyal to them while she was filming up there,” said Miles Socha, editor-in-chief at Women’s Wear Daily, referring to the time Markle spent in Toronto filming the TV series “Suits.” ”But probably we would have to place our bets on a British designer.”

Some are hoping Markle will pick something less traditional because she has more leeway. After all, Harry is only fifth in line to the throne — and will be sixth after Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, gives birth to her third child in April. In addition, their wedding venue, St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, is less imposing than St. Paul’s Cathedral or Westminster Abbey in London.

“I really expect something different from her. Her style is so clean, really modern, and bridal has been so traditional in the past few years,” said London-based bridal designer Naomi Neoh. “I think — I hope — it would be clean, simple with beautiful detailing.”
Neoh hopes Markle will choose a dress that celebrates her individuality.

“Meghan’s very different from the English tradition. She’s got her career, she’s half-black,” she said. “She’s not going to be queen. It has to be respectful and appropriate of course, but it can be a bit more exciting with the cut and the lines. I think maybe a high neck, low back — that’d be demure enough.”

Still, it’s a dress that needs to live up to the grandeur of its surroundings. St. George’s Chapel is intimate only by royal proportions. It seats 800 guests and has a very important place in British history as the resting place of scores of kings and queens — including both of the queen’s parents.

“She’s going to be walking over dead monarchs on the way up the aisle,” said Beer. “There’s a huge sense of occasion.”

Prince William and his wife Kate, Duchess of Cambridge stand outside Westminster Abbey after their Royal Wedding in London.

Markle has already signaled a break from the conservative styles that dominate British royal wardrobes, ditching stuffy frock coats for sleek trousers. Many admired the sharp trouser suit she wore to match Harry’s outfit at a recent official event.

The actress herself has offered some clues about her dream wedding dress.

In March 2016, before she met Harry, she told Glamour magazine that she favored “classic and simple” styles with “a modern twist,” and that she preferred “wedding dresses that are whimsical or subtly romantic.” She named Ellie Saab and J. Mendel among her favorite designers, and said her favorite celebrity wedding dress was the simple slip of a gown that Carolyn Besette Kennedy wore in 1996.

Circumstances have changed since then — but whatever style she picks, Markle’s choice will soon be seen in bridal salons everywhere.

Referring to Kate’s gown, Neoh said: “Literally the next day, everyone wanted long lace sleeves — the year after getting lace was impossible. It was bananas.”

Many say with Markle’s looks and the young royals’ popularity, she could get away with nearly anything.

“I think everybody here loves her so dearly,” said designer Jasper Conran. “She can wear a dishcloth and people won’t mind.”

Meghan Markle’s Half-Brother Blames Royal Engagement for Drunken Fight

Meghan Markle‘s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., is speaking out about a drunken New Year’s brawl with his fiancée and blames the royal engagement for contributing to the fight.

As previously reported, Thomas Markle’s fiancée, Darlene Blount, landed in jail and was charged with fourth-degree assault on New Year’s Day after an altercation with Thomas in Oregon.

In an interview with The Mail on Sunday, Thomas, 51, initially said that Blount hit him in the face before insisting that his injuries were self-inflicted. He bailed his fiancée out of jail, paying her $ 1,000 bond.

Thomas told the newspaper that he and Blount are both planning to attend alcohol and relationship counseling, but said that the stress of suddenly being in the public eye, in the wake of the Suits star’s engagement to Prince Harry, contributed to their issues.

“It hasn’t been easy. Meghan’s relationship with Prince Harry has shone a spotlight on our family. It doesn’t help when you have issues and your sister is engaged to royalty. It adds a whole new level of scrutiny,” he told the paper. “We’ve been under a lot of stress because of all the attention. At some point you find yourself drinking too much to escape the pressure.”

Thomas, who has the same father as Meghan, 36, spoke with the Daily Mail last month about the royal wedding, saying he didn’t know if he’d be attending the nuptials at Windsor Castle in May.

“I don’t know if [Meghan] gets to invite who she wants,” he told the paper. “But she’ll reach out if she wants me there. She’ll call me. She knows where to find me. But that’s up to her, there’s no pressure. I wouldn’t mind seeing my little sister have the biggest wedding in the world. That would be incredible.”

Meghan Markle just broke one of the Queen’s royal fashion rules

But all for a very good reason…

Meghan Markle

A Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wedding is fast-approaching, with Kensington Palace announcing that the couple are set to wed at Windsor Castle in May 2018.

With the royal couple’s nuptials in sight, many have been wondering what we can expect on the big day – from potential celebrity guests to Prince Harry’s choice of best man – spoiler alert – it might not be Prince William.

One of the main questions however is who will be Meghan Markle’s wedding dress designer, with the actress’ most recent photos adding fuel to the fire.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released their official engagement portraits yesterday, and the 36-year-old Suits actress surprised us all by breaking one of the Queen’s royal fashion rules, opting to wear a sheer dress by Ralph & Russo.

With this in mind people are starting to wonder whether the Canadian actress’ wedding dress may be more risqué than your average royal.

The modern look has certainly gone down well with the public, with Kensington Palace tweeting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s response to their photo reception.

‘The couple are so grateful for the warm and generous messages they have received during such a happy time in their lives,’ the palace tweeted before adding, ‘As a way to say thank you, they have decided to share this candid photograph from the day of their portrait sittings directly with all of you.’

We cannot get enough of these two.

The most iconic and dreamy Royal wedding dresses EVER

Love it or hate it, Diana’s wedding dress was unforgettable

Royal Wedding in pictures
The bride arrives! Resplendent in Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen

With the news of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in May 2018, naturally everyone is wondering who the actress will choose as her wedding dress designer, and what sort of style she will pick. Looking back at previous Royal wedding dresses, brides have usually opted for traditional styles, especially as they have all been married in cathedrals or churches.

Princess Diana’s wedding dress

The most famous of all obviously being Princess Diana’s dress, created by David and Elizabeth Emanuel for her wedding to Prince Charles on 29th July 1981. The ballgown was literally fit for a princess, with its layers upon layers of silk taffeta, puffy sleeves and 25-foot-train. Sure, it wasn’t to everyone’s taste, and it does scream 80s, but the fact we are still talking about it today makes it rather iconic, non?

Kate Middleton’s wedding dress

You could say no dress has ever been as hotly anticipated as Kate Middleton’s wedding dress. Estimated at a whopping £250k, it was designed (in secret obvs) by Alexander McQueen creative fashion director Sarah Burton. The 50s style dress was made with satin gazar, lace and organza, was nipped in at the waist and featured a full skirt designed to mimic an opening flower. It had a relatively short train and was the perfect fit for the elegant decor of Westminster Abbey. Its something old was the 19th Century lace style on the bodice, and for her something blue, Kate had a bit of blue ribbon sewn inside the dress.

It went down a treat with viewers and fashion critics alike and as a result was copied by too many fashion brands to count.

Grace Kelly’s wedding dress

We can’t mention Harry and Meghan without the obvious reference to Grace Kelly, who was also an American actress who married a Prince, specifically Prince Rainer III of Monaco. Her dress is still lauded as one of the most beautiful of all time, and it’s even thought Kate was inspired by the classic design for hers. Fun fact for you: instead of picking a well-known designer (we’re sure the likes of Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent were falling over themselves to do the job), Grace chose her MGM costume designer Helen Rose to do it, as the pair had worked closely in Hollywood.

It was made with taffeta and embellished with 125-year-old lace and pearls and was just beautiful.

5 reasons moms are all kinds of obsessed with the royal engagement

by

Melissa Willets

posted in Life

Unless you’ve been living under a breast pump, which, let’s face it, some of us are, you probably know that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have become engaged.

And if you’re like me, you stopped what you were doing the second you found out via a CNN push notification on your phone, and freaked out. Because. This. Is. Awesome. News.

Royal engagement photo

Forget about analyzing why you care so much about a royal engagement that couldn’t have less to do with your own life. Here are 5 reasons every mom from New Jersey to London is basically obsessed with the upcoming wedding between Harry and Meghan:

  1. At 36, Meghan Markle is about our age, moms! So, is it totally out of the question that maybe we could still meet a prince and become royalty? Especially since she’s American. I don’t think so! Except we’re already married. But whatever.
  2. The royal engagement equals something to obsess over other than whether our kids pooped today. As more details about how Harry proposed, and how they met, and their wedding plans emerge, we moms are offered an escape from the sometimes humdrum aspects of our day. Indeed, the design of Meghan’s engagement ring is the perfect subject to contemplate during nap time.
  3. If you’re pregnant, the couple’s May wedding could coincide with your due date. Which would be amazing. And almost as memorable as having a baby the same day Kate Middleton gives birth to her third child.
  4. The royal engagement is a good reminder for our husbands to be more romantic. Yes guys, we want cozy nights with roast chicken, too. Palace optional. But don’t forget the jewelry.
  5. Meghan’s engagement ring photos are a good reminder to get that manicure. I mean, look at the state of my nails. Horrendous.

The royal engagement reminds me I need a manicure

I don’t know; maybe it’s just me who can’t get enough about all things Harry and Meghan. But don’t worry, because I think I’m obsessed enough for all of us!

Are you obsessed with the royal engagement, or not so much?

Meghan Markle just took a big step towards becoming a member of the royal family

Do we hear wedding bells?

prince harry and meghan markle wedding

From the editors of People
Words by Monique Jessen

Meghan Markle arrived in London this week, and there’s only one place she’s staying — with Prince Harry at the palace.

Markle, who reportedly just wrapped her last season on Suits, has already semi-immersed herself into London life during many under-the-radar trips to the capital. And she is now preparing for a more permanent move across the pond.

‘Harry has made no secret of the fact that he wants to marry her,’ a source tells People. ‘She is the one.’

During the last year, Markle has been spotted walking around Prince Harry’s neighbourhood in Kensington, carrying Whole Foods shopping bags (the health food store is a short stroll from Harry’s cottage), picking up flowers and visiting a spa in Soho on the eve of Pippa Middleton’s wedding. But it was an invite to Buckingham Palace for tea with the Queen last month that is most indicative of how serious things are between the two.

While their relationship has been moving along very quickly behind the scenes (they even chose their first Christmas tree together last December), the first public show of affection between the royal couple was at the Invictus Games in Toronto in September, when the two walked hand-in-hand into the wheelchair tennis event. A few days later, Harry was photographed kissing Markle when he joined her and her mother, Doria Ragland, in a private box during the event’s closing ceremony.

On Markle’s part, she has not shied away from expressing her feelings towards Harry, telling Vanity Fair in their October issue: ‘We’re two people who are really happy and in love.’

Hinting at the pressures they might one day face, she said: ‘I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time.’

Markle will live with Harry at his two-bedroom Nottingham Cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace, where staff already know Markle. In a similar fashion, Prince William and Kate Middleton lived together at St. Andrews university and then at a secluded farmhouse in North Wales briefly before they wed in April 2011. There has been speculation that one day Harry will move into Apartment 1 at the palace which has 21 rooms and is currently the home of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

While Meghan prepares to say goodbye to her chic one-bedroom apartment in Toronto (including potentially relocating her beloved dogs Bogart and Guy), Harry has been making subtle changes at home in order to make it more girlfriend-friendly. ‘It’s not a question of if she’s moving in,’ says the insider, ‘it’s just a matter of when.’

Special Tip Update!

Fear of a Black Princess: Britain’s Royal Racial Problem

Markle

Prince Harry caused a tempest in a teapot, when news broke that he was dating Suits actress Meghan Markle. The difference to this royal relationship is that the potential princess is a Black woman. Markle and Prince Harry’s relationship is a real issue that tests the limits of our apparently ‘post racial’ age. Some commentators have been quick to proclaim the relationship and relative lack of furor as evidence of progress and that the spirit of ‘multicultural inclusiveness’ has reached the monarchy. Last year, BET comforted its viewers facing the end of Obama’s presidency with the news that “we may be leaving the White House, but we might be making our way into the royal castle.”

However, the reception in the press has not all been positive, with an uncomfortable focus on the difference that the biracial Markle represents.

In our ‘post-racial’ age even the most rabid of right wing press would not highlight Markle’s race directly as being a problem. Racism becomes coded in metaphor and suggestion, obvious to the reader but with plausible deniability. The notorious British right-wing paper the Daily Mail published a piece on Markle and her family, where they hired a genealogist to go back for generations and contrast the stark differences between the royal’s heritage and hers. However, they dispensed with the post-racial politeness in another article, under the headline ‘Harry’s Girl is (almost) Straight Outta Compton’. They focus on the area near where Markle’s mother lives in LA, drawing on the well-worn stereotypes of violence, gangs and crime to question whether this is a place the Queen “would pop round for tea.”

All this in an effort to paint her as an outsider unsuited for British royalty.

It doesn’t take much reading between the lines to get the message that the royal family ‘is strictly not for N******’. The tone of press coverage has led to Prince Harry releasing a statement condemning the ‘racial undertones’ of the stories.

We should not be surprised by this kind of backlash, given the role of the royal family in Britain. The monarchy has long since been symbolic, kept around because of tourism and popularity. A recent YouGov poll found that 68% of people thought they were “good for Britain,” compared to only 9 percent who felt the opposite. The royals have celebrity status, with birthdays, marriages and newborns celebrated with hundreds of thousands out in the streets. The symbolic power of the royal family unfortunately tells us a great deal about belonging in Britain.

The embrace of the monarchy cannot be untangled from the importance that colonialism has in defining Britishness. A 2014 YouGov poll found that 59% of people were proud of the British Empire. Britain was built on slavery and the colonization of two thirds of the world, building an empire upon which “the sun never set.” The end of the Empire led to a distinct sense of loss of Britain’s place in the world. The yearning for colonial nostalgia, in order to connect the nation back to its glory days of imperial pomp is a key reason for the recent vote for Brexit, so that Britain can be great again free shackles of the European Union. The monarchy is a key part of this colonial nostalgia and the reason that in my primary school we routinely sang ‘rule Britannia, Britannia rule the waves, Britain never, ever, ever, shall be slaves’.

As a symbol of empire and Britain’s great past, the monarchy therefore become and symbol of Whiteness and purity of the nation. In their hereditary, they are a direct link to the Britain of former glories. A time where Britain dominated the darker peoples of the world, and did not have to live with us in their cities. Even in ‘post-racial’ times the idea of that line of heredity being polluted with Blackness would be unacceptable to many.

But the potential for a Black princess may actually present a more complicated problems for how we discuss race. The idea of Markle’s acceptance, heralding an age of inclusiveness brings to mind late Professor Derick Bell’s warning that “what we view as racial progress is not a solution, but rather a regeneration of the problem in a particularly perverse form.” Two years ago, the Black British newspaper the Voice published, an article wistfully discussing whether Harry would ever marry a Black woman. Ironically, the acceptance of a Black princess could actually reaffirm the Whiteness of the nation.

Perhaps the best way to understand this is to take an example from representation of enslavement on the big screen in Britain. The movie Belle came out in 2013, telling the story of the daughter of an aristocrat and an enslaved African who was raised by a Lord in 18th century Britain. Director Ama Asante, chose this exceptional story because she wanted to give ‘little Black girls’ a protagonist ‘who wore those clothes, the fine silks and the lovely jewelry, and who was the love interest” in a Jane Austen-like period drama. Her aim was to tell a story of the era that Black girls could be proud of, and find their place in. Unfortunately, the film concocts a fantasy narrative, which reinforces dominant ideas of race, Whiteness and progressive myths about Britain. Belle finds her place, by overcoming her Blackness and being accepted into the Whiteness and pageantry of British society.

Markle’s path into Whiteness is already being carved out in the media. There are stories that ignore her Blackness and claim her as “just like Harry’s mother,” princess Diana with her focus on charity work. Demonstrating the hold of colorism in British ideas of race, we are also reassured that she “looks like Pippa Middleton.” So Markle offers the potential for a Black princess held up as symbol of change, without actually changing the racial codes of society. Given that this is a best case scenario, perhaps we should reframe the question in the Voice, to “why would a Black woman want to marry Prince Harry?”

‘Victoria and Abdul’ Review: Judi Dench Is ‘a Pleasure’ in Shallow Royal Film

Since Dame Judi Dench is acting royalty she has no trouble playing the hell out of Queen Victoria in her last years on the throne of England. Even better, she lets her ingrained mischief remove any hints of sanctimony from the old girl. Sadly, Victoria & Abdul, directed by the usually scrappy Stephen Frears from a dutiful script by Lee Hall, only sets one place at the table. Abdul

Princess Mako Officially Leaves Her Royal Status to Marry a Commoner with a ‘Bright Smile’

Princess Mako of Akishino has officially announced that she will be abandoning her royal status to marry for love.

The eldest daughter of Japanese Emperor Akihito officially confirmed her engagement in a a press conference on the Akasaka Estate in Toyko on Sunday.  The princess — who is expected to marry her fiancé, law clerk Kei Komuro, in 2018— met Komuro at Tokyo’s International Christian University and the two have been dating for five years.

During the conference, the princess, 25, and her fiancé talked about their low-key romance.

“First I was attracted by his bright smile,” Mako said, according to The Telegraph.

According to the couple, Komuro proposed after dinner one evening in December 2013. However, news of the engagement — and Mako giving up her royal status — didn’t make headlines until earlier this year.

Mako says she has since introduced him to her parents, Prince Akishino — second in line to the Chrysanthemum throne — and Princess Kiko, as someone she wished to “share her future with.”

The announcement sets in motion the Nosai no Gi, a formal engagement ceremony in which the groom presents gifts.

Mako’s renouncement of royal status will make her the 8th member of the Imperial family to renounce status in order to marry since World War II. Her aunt Sayako, the only daughter of the current emperor, followed a similar path to marriage in 2005.

In early June, Japan’s parliament enacted a one-time change in the law which will allow the 83-year old Akihito to abdicate in favor of his eldest son Crown Prince Naruhito, 5, for Japan’s Chrysanthem Throne.

Although Komuro, 25, is not a royal, he was once dubbed the “Prince of the Sea.”

Akihito’s upcoming abdication, the first in more than two centuries, is widely expected to be announced by December.

Under existing Imperial Household Law, only males may inherit the throne. Following the abdication, Mako’s father, Prince Akishino, 51, will become first in line to the throne. Her 10-year old brother, Prince Hisahito, the current Emperor’s only grandson, will become second in line.
