While the World Welcomes Meghan’s Royal Baby: Here Are 6 More Royal Black Women Around the World

It’s a boy! Meghan Markle has delivered a baby boy, according to several news reports. Markle, whose official title is Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex since her marriage to Prince Harry, has been a daily topic in media and among royal family watchers.

According to CNN “the baby will be seventh in line to the British throne behind Prince Charles, Prince William, and his three children and Prince Harry.”

Markle is the product of a white father and black mother—a social worker who lives in the mostly African American L.A. suburb of View Park-Windsor Hills (incidentally, one of the wealthiest black suburbs in the country).

It’s been a constant source of buzz—the first woman of color to become part of the British royal family. Yet, there are other black women royalnistas around the globe:

Princess Angela of Liechtenstein

Princess Angela (born Angela Gisela Brown) was a standout graduate of Parsons School of Design in New York and worked as a fashion director for Adrienne Vittadini, before marrying Prince Maximilian of Liechtenstein in January 2000. This Afro-Panamanian beauty also started her own line, A. Brown, which she headed for three years. The couple wed at the Church of St. Vincent Ferrer in New York, after reportedly meeting a few years earlier at a reception in the city. The princess wore a white dress which she designed and the same Kinsky royal-jeweled tiara that Princess Tatjana of Liechtenstein wore when she married Philipp von Lattorff in June 1999.

With interests in the arts, this 30-year-old studied drama at the University of Biola in California and was featured in publications as one of the top hottest young royals.

Habsburg, a native of Sudan, is the wife of Ferdinand Leopold Joseph Count von Habsburg of Austria. The couple wed in August 1999, hosting their ceremony in Nairobi, Kenya, and have three children, all born in Nairobi. Their marriage was seen as controversial among the public and in royal circles, because of her class as a commoner and her ethnic background; but the head of the Habsburg royal family, Dr. Otto von Habsburg, reportedly declared all Habsburg marriages “equal.”

Queen Sylvia Nagginda of Buganda (Uganda)

Born in the United Kingdom and raised in Uganda, this regal woman married King Kabaka Mutebi II in 1999, after a career working in various U.S. sectors including public relations, international nonprofits, and healthcare and human services. Prince Harry shares his ultimate parenting tips days after the birth of royal baby Archie

Words by Maisie Bovingdon

Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle welcomed their first child, Archie Harrison Mounbatten-Windsor, into the world earlier this week.

Just days after the Duchess of Sussex gave birth, Harry jetted to the Netherlands for an engagement at The Hague for the Invictus Games 2020.

During his visit Harry had a heart to heart with former soldier Dennis van der Stroon, who has his sights set on competing in the games, about fatherhood.

Dennis recalled his conversation with the 34-year-old royal to Hello! magazine: ‘We talked about how my wife, Mireille, is 20 weeks pregnant with our first child, a girl, and he told me how special it was that his son has just been born.

‘Above all he said he was just amazed by the miracles in the world, and how his child has made a lot of people happy.

‘But he also told me not to make too many plans and that there’s no way you can plan for when the baby arrives.’

Harry has revealed his four-year-old son is ‘very quiet’.

Dennis added: ‘He also told me he’s really happy that his son is so far very quiet.’

The pair continued to bond over fatherhood, and losing a parent.  During the heart to heart Harry admitted he doesn’t feel ‘so alone’ when he speaks to other people who have loved and lost a close one.

Dennis continued: ‘Harry said missing a mother is like missing some kind of security, how you need that as a son and it falls away when you lose your mother. He said he meets a lot of people in his work who have lost a mother, father, sister, brother or relatives and when he hears their story, as he heard my story, he said he doesn’t feel so alone.’

We can’t deal.

The Best Social Reactions to Royal Baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor

The wait for baby Sussex is finally over.
On Monday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, welcomed their first child, a baby boy weighing 7 lbs. and 3 oz. On Wednesday, the couple made their first appearance together as a family in Windsor, later revealing in an Instagram post the baby’s name is Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

The name choice comes as a surprise as British bookmakers saw the most bets placed on more traditional British royal names, like Albert, Arthur, Alexander, James and Phillip. However, the Internet has already started having fun with the name, many making references to the titular character of the Archie Comics series and the CW show it inspired, “Riverdale,” whose main, red-haired character is named Archie Andrews.

Prince Harry’s diary has pretty much confirmed when the royal baby will have arrived

This is the biggest clue yet!

If we’re being totally honest, none of us can say for sure when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s first child will be born (or whether or not Baby Sussex is already here).

The Queen has reportedly visited Meghan Markle at Frogmore Cottage, but there’s no word on when Meghan will give birth – or where, for that matter.

But now, a newly announced trip for Prince Harry may have just given the game away on when the baby will have arrived by.

REX

On Wednesday the 8th of May, the Duke of Sussex will travel to the Netherlands for a two-day trip for a public engagement in Amsterdam, and to launch the one-year countdown to the 2020 Invictus Games in the Hague.

Now, there’s no way that Prince Harry would risk missing the birth of his child, so we reckon it’s a dead cert that the baby will have been born before the 8th of May.

Or perhaps he or she has already arrived…?

Either way, it’s worth noting that his last two public appearances, the Anzac Day service at Westminster Abbey and the London Marathon last weekend, were not official engagements and Harry only popped along when he knew for sure Meghan wasn’t in labour. So, we think these new concrete plans are definitely proof of SOMETHING. Right?!

Back we go to refreshing @sussexroyal’s Instagram feed…

Royal family greet Queen Elizabeth on 93rd birthday at Easter service

Here are all the ways Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have broken protocol with their royal baby

From water births to baby showers…

REX

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting their first child together any day now, with the royal baby due this month.

The future arrival, referred to as the couple’s ‘little bump’, is already one of the most talked-about people in the world, with the public already speculating about everything from baby name predictions and god parent choices to nursery colour palettes.

However, Baby Sussex is most talked about for having rule-breaking parents, with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex proving unafraid to rip up the royal rulebook for the sake of their little one.

Here are all the ways Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are breaking protocol with the royal baby…

The privacy:

While most royal couples have held a sense of privacy when it has come to royal babies, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have broken tradition in how guarded they have been – and understandably so.

The royal couple have faced more online backlash and speculation than most, with Meghan in particular getting vilified during her pregnancy. It was hardly surprising therefore when the royal family announced that the couple would be celebrating in private.

‘Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private,’ the statement read. ‘The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.’

The baby shower:

Meghan Markle’s New York baby shower made news for various reasons – partially for the star-studded guest list, but mostly for its break from royal tradition.

The 37-year-old’s ‘extravagant’ baby shower saw A-listers from Serena Williams to Amal Clooney congregate in The Mark hotel’s penthouse suite, something that the Queen was rumoured to have disapproved of. But while sources have insisted that the monarch wasn’t fazed, royal expert Victoria Arbiter among others explained that baby showers are ‘inappropriate’ for members of ‘The Firm’.

The babymoon:

It’s hardly surprising that a lot of the couple’s breaks from tradition are americanisms, with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex following a modern US trend this year, taking a babymoon before their arrival.

The couple reportedly had a lavish three-night babymoon at Hampshire’s Heckfield Place, spending some quality time together in the Georgian manor house.

‘Meghan is only a couple of weeks away from giving birth, so Harry really wanted to treat her,’ a friend told The Sun, going on to explain that their break was filled with eating Michelin starred food as a two and going for long walks through the 400 surrounding acres.

REX

The delivery team:

It has been reported that the former Suits actress is breaking tradition with her delivery team, opting out of using the Queen’s doctors, not wanting ‘men in suits’ delivering her baby, with royal gynaecologists, Alan Farthing and Guy Thorpe-Beeston having to take a backseat.

‘Meghan said she doesn’t want the men in suits. She was adamant that she wanted her own people,’ a source told the Daily Mail. ‘It did leave a few of us a little baffled’. Another source reportedly added: ‘It is slightly surprising. These people are the best of the best, and when it comes down to it, their role would actually be very limited in the birth itself, assuming all goes to plan.’

Meghan is reportedly opting out of having the two male gynaecologists leading her delivery team, apparently going for a woman instead, though it is not known who she is.

The home birth:

While home births used to be the royal tradition, the protocol for the past four decades has been a hospital birth, with Princess Diana starting the current tradition of posing for a photo post-birth on the Lindo Wing steps of the hospital.

Meghan however is set to break the tradition, with sources close to Vanity Fair claiming that the Duchess of Sussex is considering a home birth. And that’s not all, with Meghan said to be additionally considering a natural birth, with her mother Doria Ragland said to be involved in the birthing plan.

REX

The water birth:

Not only is Meghan apparently parting with four decades of tradition to have the royal baby at home, it has also been reported that she is planning on having a water birth, which would be a royal first.

‘Obviously Meg’s into all the homeopathy, so none of us were shocked when we found out she’d been talking about a water birth,’ a friend of Prince Harry reportedly told the Daily Star Sunday. ‘Apparently she wants it to be as natural as possible: no drugs, no caesareans and so on. It’s the next logical step from all her yoga, meditation and so on. Obviously when she goes into labour she might end up, medically speaking, having to go the more conventional route. But for now a water birth is absolutely her plan, is what they’re saying.’

The paternity leave:

Prince Harry is breaking tradition once more, following a modern post-birth approach rather than a traditional royal one. The Duke of Sussex is reportedly taking paternity leave to support his wife and spend some quality time with his newborn.

‘He doesn’t need to take paternity leave because he doesn’t work in the way most people do,’ a friend of Prince Harry’s told The Express. ‘But he thinks it’s a very modern Dad thing to do.’

REX

The manny:

While nannies are customary for royal babies, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are apparently going against tradition with their choices. According to The Express, the royal couple are taking a ‘modern American approach’ to the nanny they hire, reportedly opting for a ‘manny‘.

‘Hiring a “manny” is far more common in the U.S. — a nation that Meghan is more in tune with — than in the U.K. She’s keen to introduce the royal family to what she considers a more enlightened, modern American approach,’ a source explained. ‘[Prince Harry] and Meghan have discussed nannies and both have an open mind to a male nanny. They will definitely try to shortlist one.’

Congratulations again to these two royal rule breakers!

This will be the first person to hear the news that the royal baby has arrived

Surprise, surprise…

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced the news that they were expecting their first baby together last year, with the future arrival’s due date said to be in April.

Now, just weeks away, speculation is rising around every aspect of the royal baby and its parents, from the baby’s gender and selected God parents to when the family will move to their new Frogmore Cottage home and the shade of vegan paint set to decorate the nursery.

This week however, everyone has been talking about the Queen’s role in the royal baby’s arrival, with the monarch said to be the first person to be informed once the baby has been born.

Yes, really. Queen Elizabeth will reportedly receive a call informing her that the baby has arrived and what its gender is, before anyone else is informed, even Meghan’s mum, Doria Ragland.

And the Queen’s power in terms of the royal baby won’t stop there, with it reported this week that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will actually have to change the royal baby name if HRH doesn’t approve.

‘The Queen has the power to say what their title is,’ Royal commentator Kate Williams explained in an interview with CNN. ‘But in the case of names, it is more of an informal conversation.’

She continued: ‘Of course they have such respect for the Queen that if she says “I really don’t like that name,” they’d definitely take that into account.

Judging by the bookies odds by William Hill however, there’s a pretty good bet that she’ll approve, with the most popular predictions honouring royal family members.

Victoria is in the top spot with odds of 8/1, followed by Diana at 10/1 and then Alice and Isabella. And in terms of boys names, top predictions include Arthur, Edward and James.

What will the couple name their newborn? There’s not long to wait and see, but we can all get in line behind the Queen to find out.

Meghan and Harry split from Kate and William’s royal household

They’re going their separate ways

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will officially split from Kate Middleton and Prince William to start their own royal household.

Reports that the Sussexes and the Cambridges would go their separate ways first began last year, and now the Queen has agreed that a new household will be created for Meghan and Harry, but the new office of communications staff and courtiers at Buckingham Palace – which includes hiring new private secretaries – won’t be immediate.

The new set-up will be established in the spring, with a senior aide telling Harpers BAZAAR: ‘This isn’t immediate. It will be a step-by-step process.’

A statement from Kensington Palace said: ‘The Queen has agreed to the creation of a new Household for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, following their marriage in May last year.

‘The Household, which will be created with the support of The Queen and The Prince of Wales, will be established in the spring.

‘The Duke of Sussex currently has his own private office, which has been supporting The Duchess since Their Royal Highness’ engagement in November 2017.

‘This long-planned move will ensure that permanent support arrangements for The Duke and Duchess’s work are in place as they start their family and move to their official residence at Frogmore Cottage.’

It comes days after it was announced that Meghan’s assistant personal secretary, Amy Pickerell, has resigned.

At the time, a Kensington Palace source told BAZAAR: ‘Amy is leaving after the arrival of the baby. The Duchess will be very sad to see her go, but is excited for her as Amy has exciting plans ahead including spending some time abroad.

‘They will definitely stay in touch and Amy will be on hand for any advice and help that is needed in the future.’

The Royal family favorite hotels

Ah, the Royal Family. Do they ever have time for a break? Although it seems as if this family are always on their feet, they still have plenty of time to relax and unwind – especially in some of their favorite hotels around the world.

Waldorf Astoria, New York

Both the Queen Mother and the Queen have stayed at the luxurious Waldorf Astoria over the years. In fact, it was their visits that saw the hotel build the incredible Royal Suite. While the hotel is currently closed while it undergoes some major renovations, guests could once stay in the suite for no less than $ 10,000 a night if they wanted a full royal experience. Thankfully, we only have a few years to wait before it’s back in business.

Coworth Park, Berkshire

It seems as though this hotel is such a popular choice for the Royal Family that Prince Harry even chose it as his place to stay before his big wedding day back in May 2018. Coworth Park is found in southern England, and it the only hotel in Britain to have its very own polo field. Both William and Harry have played on the green over the years and now enjoy returning for the night every now and then.

North Island, Seychelles

Seychelles is a small island off the east coast of Africa and has been the destination of many vacationing celebrities over the years. The North Island hotel has just 11 private villas to its name, and every one is surrounded by takamaka trees meaning it’s the ultimate place to find privacy. Prince William and Kate Middleton spent their honeymoon here in 2011, while George Clooney joined the guest list just three years later.

Walserhof, Klosters, Switzerland

Klosters has been a favorite destination place for many members of the Royal Family as there is so much to see and do in the area. Thankfully, many have found the resort of Walserhof more than perfect for a night or two away from the palace. The hotel is filled with elegance in every room, but that’s not all. There is also a Michelin-starred restaurant to fulfill all of their royal needs.

Peabody Hotel, Memphis

The Peabody Hotel is such a favorite of the Royal Family that Princes Harry and William rented out an entire floor of the hotel. The brothers were in the area for the wedding of Lizzy Wilson and Guy Pelly, and thought no place would be better to spend their time then this luxury resort. However, they weren’t alone. The Peabody Hotel also has five resident ducks who spend their day marching around the lobby and splashing in the marble fountain.

We might be used to seeing the Royals in the palace or on their world tours, but it seems as though this hard-working bunch also get some time to relax and unwind every now and then. Thankfully, there are a number of luxurious hotels all around the world that seem more than enough to accommodate the needs of this incredible family.

William’s Early Doubts About Meghan Markle Reported to Be Behind Royal Feud

Stephen Pond

The royal falling out between Meghan and Harry on one side and William and Kate on the other has its roots in an overly frank exchange of brotherly views, according to royal biographer and Vanity Fair columnist Katie Nicholl.

“William was quite concerned that the relationship had moved so quickly,” Nicholl says in a promo clip for TLC’s Kate v. Meghan: Princesses at War?, which will air at 10 p.m. ET Tuesday, “And being close to Harry, probably the only person close enough, [William said], ‘This seems to be moving quickly, are you sure?’”

Nicholl adds: “I think what was meant as well-intended brotherly advice just riled Harry. Harry is hugely protective of Meghan. He saw that as criticism. He interpreted that as his brother not really being behind this marriage, this union, and I don’t think things have been quite right ever since.”

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton Reveal the New Rules of Royal Dressing

Photo illustration by The Daily Beast

What does Meghan Markle wear when she’s at home, baking her famous banana bread or roasting a chicken with Prince Harry, as the couple is known to do? It’s hard to imagine Meghan kicking back in a pair of old sweats and a Northwestern hoodie. Maybe her loungewear of choice is somewhat athleisure-ly—after all, in 2015 the former actress did declare “Yoga is my thing.”

It’s understandable if you’re bored at the thought of Markle looking a lot like you do, watching true crime on a weeknight in her telltale messy bun. We like it when Markle, per her tabloid moniker, sparkles.

This week, the Duchess of Sussex reminded us that she can do just that when, at five months pregnant, she stepped out in a head-to-toe sequined gown by Roland Mouret.

“We both have a similar interest in philanthropy,” Litvinenko said. “We wanted to see how we could work together

Top places where the British Royal family travels during winter

When most people hear about the royal family, all they think about is wealth and extravagance. Most of us think that because of their position, they only spend their time in the most luxurious and expensive cities during winter. However, this is not the case.

The British royal family often spends their time in some of the simplest but coolest regions of the world. They have been known to travel as far as Africa just to enjoy themselves. Here are the top locations where the British royal family loves to travel in winter.

1. Scotland

For many years now, Scotland has been the choice destination for Queen Elizabeth during winter. Her Royal Highness and Prince Philip usually spend their time in the private Balmoral Castle. Here, all other family members usually visit and enjoy themselves. The region is ideal for many sports that are loved by the royal family, including fishing, hunting, and taking walks on the beach. The climate in Scotland is very favorable, so the family can stay a bit warmer there during winter.

2. Norfolk

Norfolk, England is an eastern county, and is a traditional vacation spot for the royal family during winter. Here, they stay at Sandringham House where there are expensive gardens, woodland estates, wetlands, a country park, and tidal mudflats to enjoy. This is the perfect outdoor destination just for the Royal family to enjoy. William and Kate own a house in Sandringham Estate, too. They love to spend their time here with their loved ones.

3. Corfu Island, Greece

When it comes to picking a vacation destination, the royal family usually considers the sand, sea, and sun. The royal family usually selects Corfu Island as an ideal place for a relaxing vacation during the winter, where they often stay at Rothschild Villa. Corfu is famously known for its wonderful scenery and secluded beaches. Corfu’s center has been named by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, because of its historic buildings including palaces, churches, and forts.

4. Kenya

Another location that is loved by the British royal family is a country located in East Africa next to the Indian Ocean – Kenya. Her Royal Highness spent time at Treetops Safari Lodge in 1952, where she received the news of her father’s death and that she was now a Queen. In 1983, she made another trip back to Kenya, this time with Prince Philip. Kenya was also the location where Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton while the couple was staying at Lake Rutundu back in 2010. The climate in Kenya makes the country an ideal place for vacations during winter.

5. Botswana

This is another favorite destination for the royal family. Its warm temperatures, as well as sunny days all year round, make it an ideal place for a vacation. Prince Harry spent a gap year helping out in Botswana, where he set up a charity for children who were in need of medical care and assistance. He also took a trip there with Meghan Markle, which helped the couple to cement their relationship.

What to Watch: Royal, Political Influencers Spark Criticism, Affect Fashion With Photo-ops

Like them, love them or despise them, political and royal influencers churn up the Internet nearly instantaneously with every public outing.
Whether stepping out for a diplomatic gala dinner, a schoolyard visit with wide-eyed students or for a hardhat-worthy ribbon cutting ceremony, the powers-that-be dress accordingly, knowing their choices will send sales skyrocketing. Their personal fashion loyalties vary — Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel favors pantsuits, beleaguered British Prime Minister Theresa May prefers skirt suits, France’s First Lady Brigitte Macron is all about Louis Vuitton and U.S. First Lady Melania Trump is nonpartisan in terms of designers.
As a sign of their global reach, the newly minted Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, topped Google’s 10 most-searched people list last year. For her first official tour, with Prince Harry last fall, to Australia, the American-born royal packed plenty of options for the 16-day trip. Occasionally changing twice in one day, the former “Suits” actress wore an assortment of Australian labels, as well as Brandon Maxwell, Jason Wu, Roksanda Ilincic, Stuart Weitzman, Manolo Blahnik, Gucci and Birks.
Before last spring’s royal wedding, it was estimated that the net present value to brands that Markle wears was 150 million pounds, or $ 212.1 million, according to David Haigh,

William, Kate, Harry and Meghan have a royal group chat and we want in

How can we join?

You’re probably not all that surprised to learn that these are the most popular royals. The top spots go to Prince Harry, the Queen herself, and Prince William – but don’t worry, Prince George got a place in the top ten, too (and well deserved, we might add).

So in light of the fact that Harry and William are fan faves, you’ll probably be interested to know that they are besties behind the scenes, too – despite what many of the headlines have suggested over the past few weeks.

The brothers are closer than ever, and they even keep in touch via a group chat. No, really. They’ve got a thread going on.

And as if we needed any more proof that the royals are just like us really, it turns out that the fab four use a family chat to keep up with each other. Apparently, William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan are ‘all on a family text chain,’ according to a source close to the royal family who spoke to Us Weekly.

What do you reckon they talk about? Do they communicate through memes and gifs and emojis? Do they share their thoughts on the latest episode of EastEnders? We need to know.

While it’s all very lovely and we can only imagine what royal lols go on in their private messages, we have one question – why isn’t the Queen invited to get in on the action? She’d be an absolute joker, we imagine. Have you read about her Christmas present rules?

The source also touched on recent reports that there is friction between the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex, quashing the rumours once and for all.

‘Kate is lovely. She’s British, she’s reserved. You have to break through that armour,’ they told the publication.

‘Kate doesn’t warm up to people too quickly. It takes some time for her to become comfortable and trusting for anyone in the outside world.’

So there you have it.

You have to see the make-up bag Meghan took on the royal tour

It’s GENIUS

Meghan Markle’s first royal tour with Prince Harry might be over, but that doesn’t mean we’re done talking about the outfits/cute moments/baby news. (In case you missed it, here’s why they chose to announce the pregnancy in Australia.)

When you’re packing for a trip as big as, say, an official tour of four countries, your luggage is a huge part of the organisation when it comes to managing clothes, hair, make-up, etc.

We’ve snuck a peek at the make-up bag Meghan took with her and boy, it is GOOD. But first, a little backstory.

By now we’re all aware that Meghan’s good friend and MUA Daniel Martin was behind her make-up look for the royal wedding back in May.

Martin has recently launched his own (dreamy) vanity case with fashion label Cuyana, and it’ll have you questioning everything you thought you knew about make-up storage. Spoiler alert: ‘I actually gave Meghan and Harry this bag before their trip,’ he revealed in a recent interview.

So, why do we keep wanging on about how great these bags are? We’ll let Martin explain in his own words.

‘A lot of girls I know carry bags that don’t fit their foundation. Or if it does, it’s laying on its side or it’s in a flimsy kind of case,’ he explained to Allure. ‘So I took my Dior Undercover Foundation, which is a pretty standard height for foundation, and measured it from that.

‘If the bottle could stand tall, then you could fit a lot more things into the bag. I wanted to create a bag that you could put your full face in, that’s foundation, concealer, bronzer or blush, a small eyeshadow quad, and lipsticks.’

The bags have a larger base to make sure things can stand up properly, a removable inside wallet and come in five different colours. But they’re not just great for make-up, they’re perfect for skincare and grooming products, too (hence why Harry also has one).

Buy now

‘For guys, our stuff tends to be a bit bigger, whether it’s a deodorant stick or a cleanser. So I really thought about how versatile this bag could be, regardless of what you want to put in it.

‘The most important thing, though, was that whatever you had inside could stand up.’ See what I mean? Genius.

The Vanity Sets retail for $ 110 but, good news, they ship to the UK. We’ll take ten, please.

Kate Middleton Is Royal Wedding Guest Chic (Again!) for Princess Eugenie’s Big Day

Once again, Kate Middleton is the epitome of wedding guest chic.

The royal mom arrived at the royal wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank on Friday, shortly after returning to royal duty after taking some time out of the public eye following the birth of her third child, Prince Louis, in April.

Kate wore a burgundy ensemble by her own wedding dress designer, Alexander McQueen, and a matching velvet beret by go-to milliner Philip Treacy.

She and Prince William quickly headed inside after being driven to the chapel door, taking their seats next to newlyweds Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. (The couple, who wed in 2011 and whose children George, 5, and Charlotte, 3, even snuck in some hand holding before the ceremony began!)

Kate, 36, returned to her royal duties following maternity leave on Oct. 2 when she visited the Sayers Croft Forest School and Wildlife Garden. She took a short two-mile drive from her home at Kensington Palace to a recreation ground in Paddington, London, to spend time with local school children and learn how getting their hands dirty in a wildlife garden and outdoor learning helps with their well-being.

The 36-year-old royal is set to take part in sporadic engagements during October and through to the end of the year. She will return to her usual busy schedule come January.

Despite her time off from work, Kate has had a busy wedding season. In addition to helping marshal Prince George, 5, and Princess Charlotte, 3, who served in the bridal party at the wedding of her longtime friend, Sophie Carter, last month, she was her usual stylish self to celebrate the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle less than a month after Louis’ arrival.

Despite her royal status, Princess Kate has developed a clever trick to avoid upstaging the bride on her big day: Pulling a royal rewear!

For Sophie’s September nuptials, Kate wore a cornflower blue Catherine Walker & Co coat dress, which she previously wore when she arrived in Berlin with Prince William and their two eldest children during their July 2017 tour of Poland and Germany.

At the May wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan, she appeared to pull an epic royal rewear with an off-white structured-collared coat dress. In July 2015, Kate wore a very similar piece to Princess Charlotte’s christening. She pulled out the ensemble again at the Queen’s official birthday celebrations, Trooping the Colour, in 2016.

Everything You Need to Know About the Next Royal Wedding

On Friday, Princess Eugenie marries her boyfriend, Jack Brooksbank, in a lavish ceremony at Windsor Castle. In the same chapel, just five months ago, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot, giving the British monarchy its greatest boost in a generation. This wedding is likely to have the opposite effect on royal poll ratings.

In many ways, the two ceremonies will be surprisingly similar: Harry had 800 guests, Eugenie is having 850. Harry invited 1,000 members of the public, selected by ballot, Eugenie is having 1,200. Harry and Meghan had a carriage ride through the streets of Windsor, Eugenie and Jack are having one too. Harry and Meghan had glorious weather; Eugenie and Jack no doubt want the same.

But some things will be very different.

Why Kate Middleton won’t accept gifts during royal visits

It’s pretty important

Words by Jadie Troy-Pryde

We’re pretty clued up when it comes to all things royal. From what goes on behind the scenes Buckingham Palace, to following protocol, we’d say we’re in the know when it comes to their very interesting secrets.

For example, did you know that the Queen has banned this ingredient from the royal kitchens? Or why Meghan Markle often wears black for official duties?

And then there’s the real reason that Prince William and Kate Middleton don’t hold hands in public, but Meghan and Prince Harry do.

But just when you thought you knew all there was to know, we’ve got another nugget of royal wisdom for you.

Kate Middleton won’t accept gifts from members of the public during royal visits.

Why?

REX

The Duchess of Cambridge recently returned to work five months after giving birth to her third child, Prince Louis. Earlier this week, she attended Sayers Croft Forest School and Wildlife Garden in Maida Vale, London, where she met local school children – and had the sweetest answer when one asked by one child why the photographers were taking snaps of her.

However, royal protocol states that when it comes to receiving presents things can get pretty complicated.

The Royal Family website reads: “Gifts offered by private individuals living in the UK not personally known to the Member of the Royal Family should be refused where there are concerns about the propriety or motives of the donor or the gift itself.”

Reportedly, the royals are only allowed to keep hold of gifts sent by the public if their value is less than £150, and items like flowers and certain foods are permitted.

According to the BBC, all gifts must be used by the Royal Family, used for displays, or given to charity or members of staff.

Just imagine the number of teddy bears they must have collected over the years…

Sexy, Classic, Surprising: Inside Meghan Markle’s Royal Wardrobe

Arthur Edwards/Getty

It took Meghan Markle only two seconds to close her own car door on Wednesday. But the moment of relatability left many Markle stans clutching their imitation Aquazzura pumps in celebration. Deal or No Deal-briefcase-girl-turned-royalty… they’re just like us! Except for, you know, the million-dollar wardrobe.

Before closing her own door, Markle had exited the her car in a long-sleeved, black Givenchy number that would come off a bit too Wednesday Addams save for a strategically placed skirt slit. For her first solo outing as a royal, Markle oozed the breezy confidence she’s known for.

Even before joining the royal family, Markle projected self-assuredness. She ran a site called The Tig, where she blogged about independence and living alone. In 2015, she penned an essay for Darling detailing how she found self-confidence as a young actress when a casting director told you, “You need to know that you’re enough.”
