7 Women Accuse Singer Ryan Adams of Inappropriate Behavior: Report

(NEW YORK) — A New York Times report says seven women have claimed singer-songwriter Ryan Adams offered to help them with their music careers but then turned things sexual, and he sometimes became emotional and verbally abusive.

In the story published Wednesday, a 20-year-old female musician said Adams, 44, had inappropriate conversations with her while she was 15 and 16. Identified by her middle name Ava, she said that Adams exposed himself during a video call.

Adams’ ex-wife, actress and singer Mandy Moore, said Adams was psychologically abusive toward her throughout their marriage. Their divorce was official in 2016.

The Times said the accounts have been corroborated by family members or friends who were present at the time. Adams’ lawyer denied the claims to the Times.

After the article was published, Adams tweeted Wednesday that “I am not a perfect man and I have made many mistakes.”

“To anyone I have ever hurt, however unintentionally, I apologize deeply and unreservedly,” he wrote. “But the picture that this article paints is upsettingly inaccurate. Some of its details are misrepresented; some are exaggerated; some are outright false. I would never have inappropriate interactions with someone I thought was underage. Period.”

Adams released his debut album in 2000 and has earned seven Grammy nominations. He famously covered Taylor Swift’s Grammy-winning “1989” album in 2015, a year after its release. He has also worked as a producer behind the scenes for acts like Willie Nelson and Jenny Lewis.

Last month Adams performed at a tribute concert for the late rock singer Chris Cornell.

Ava said Adams constantly questioned her about her age throughout the nine months they exchanged text messages. The report said she never showed him any identification, and he had pet names for her body parts.

“If people knew they would say I was like R Kelley lol,” he wrote to her via text in November 2014, when he was 40 and she was 16. R. Kelly has been accused of sexual misconduct with women and girls but has denied the allegations.

“Mr. Adams unequivocally denies that he ever engaged in inappropriate online sexual communications with someone he knew was underage,” Andrew B. Brettler, Adam’s layer, told the Times.

The singers Phoebe Bridgers and Courtney Jaye said Adams behaved inappropriately during their relationships.

Moore, one of the stars of NBC’s award-winning “This Is Us,” burst on the scene as a teen singer and had musical success in the late ’90s and early 2000s. She claimed Adams stalled her music career and told her, “‘You’re not a real musician, because you don’t play an instrument.’”

“His controlling behavior essentially did block my ability to make new connections in the industry during a very pivotal and potentially lucrative time — my entire mid-to-late 20s,” 34-year-old Moore said to the Times.

Mandy Moore Accuses Ex-Husband Ryan Adams of Being Psychologically Abusive

Mandy Moore is speaking out against her ex-husband, Ryan Adams. In a new exposé published in the New York Times, seven women — including the This Is Us star — have come forward with stories accusing the music producer of emotional abuse and/or sexual misconduct.

“Music was a point of control for him,” Moore, 34, told the Times in the article published on Wednesday, February 13. The “Candy” songstress met Adams, 44, when she was at a pivotal point in her career, looking to put her teen popstar years in the past and move forward with more credible work.

“He would always tell me, ‘You’re not a real musician, because you don’t play an instrument,’” Moore continued, noting that the two would write songs together which Adams promised to record, but ultimately never followed through. The A Walk to Remember actress added that he’d book them time in the studio, just to replace her with other women.

“His controlling behavior essentially did block my ability to make new connections in the industry during a very pivotal and potentially lucrative time — my entire mid-to-late 20s,” Moore said, telling the outlet she considered the ways he lashed out to be psychologically abusive.

The Times reports that Adams, through his lawyer, referred to Moore’s depiction of their relationship to be “completely inconsistent with his view of the relationship.” He added that he supported her “well-deserved professional success.” His lawyer stated that Adams was happy to assist her in her career and did not come in the way of her working with others in the industry.

Adams took to Twitter hours after the Times piece was published to share this thoughts on the accusations. “But the picture that this article paints is upsettingly inaccurate,” he wrote, in part. “Some of its details are misrepresented; some are exaggerated; some are outright false.”

Moore filed for divorce from the former Whiskeytown frontman in January 2015 after six years of marriage. She opened up about their rocky marriage during an interview with Glamour published in October 2018, revealing she felt “spiritually and fundamentally stuck” before calling it quits.

“I didn’t choose the right person,” she told the magazine.“I don’t feel guilty for [the divorce]. I don’t fault myself for it. When people said, ‘I’m sorry,’ I was, like, ‘No. Sorry would have been had I stayed in a very unhealthy situation.’ I didn’t. I found my way out. And when I did, things opened back up again.”

Adams addressed Moore’s comments in a social media post at the time. “She didn’t like the Melvins or BladeRunner,” he wrote in a Tweet. “Doomed from the start … If only I could remember the start lol.”

Adams’ ex-fiancée, Meghan Butterworth, artist Courtney Jaye and singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers were among the others who detailed their stories about the musician to The New York Times.

Ryan Reynolds Gave a Fellow Expert Troll the Perfect Present

Ryan Reynolds has kicked the holiday season off by gifting a fellow expert troll with an early Christmas present.

After Twitter user @AGuyInChair, who owns the web domains AvengersEndgame.com and AvengersEndgameMovie.com, changed those URLs to redirect visitors to 20th Century Fox’s website for the Deadpool movies following the release of the Avengers: Endgame trailer, Deadpool himself decided to show his gratitude with a gift.

@AGuyInAChair took to Twitter on Friday to share photos of the Aviation Gin case —and accompanying gifts inside — that he received from Reynolds. However, he also noted that he was ready to trade Reynold’s offerings to accomplish his original goal of finagling tickets to the Avengers: Endgame premiere.

“Package from @VancityReynolds just arrived! Wow! This thing is beautiful!!! And I will trade it immediately for 2 tickets to the premiere! Any takers?” he wrote, adding, “Holy crap! There’s stuff inside too! (These have got to be worth two tickets, right?) They’re from Canada! Or a Canadian at the very least!!”

But Reynolds clearly wasn’t fazed by @AGuyInAChair’s response. “This isn’t to say I’m proud of what you did,” he replied. “Just that I happen to love you.”
