This is spooky.

Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Philippe may have broken up over a decade ago but we’re still not over it, with Cruel Intentions fans still reminiscing over the old days, when the two Rs were nineties couple goals.

Tying the knot when they were in their early 20s, the couple split after eight years of marriage. And while neither Reese nor Ryan tends to talk openly about their past relationship, they do talk about their children, Deacon and Ava Phillippe.

In fact, it was Ryan’s Instagram activity about his two children that got the world talking this week, with a photo of Ava and Deacon going viral.

A post shared by ryan (@ryanphillippe) on

But why? Simply for the fact that 19-year-old Ava and 14-year-old Deacon are the spitting image of Reese and Ryan – back in the day.

‘Me n mine’, Phillippe captioned the snap of him and his children, with Deacon and Ryan looking scarily similar and Ava looking identical to a young Reese.

‘Beautiful Children! I thought your daughter was Reese at first!,’ commented one user, while another posted, ‘You have beautiful kids @ryanphillippe Pretty sure they are clones of you and Reese =)’.

‘My God’, tweeted one user. ‘Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe’s kids are like mini-carbon copies!’

Those are some good genes!

We first heard about the prospect of Ryan Gosling portraying astronaut Neil Armstrong, best known as the first man to step foot on the moon, back in November 2015. Damien Chazelle was already set to direct the film. At the time, Gosling and Chazelle were working together on La La Land, which was released the following year and eventually earned six Academy Awards, including Best Director for Chazelle.

MOVIE APP UPDATE:

First Man Doesn’t Quite Live Up to Ryan Gosling’s Thoughtful Neil Armstrong Performance

Damien Chazelle, director of the macho-jazz wingding Whiplash and a floaty modern musical about a great American city, La La Land, is a flashy filmmaker of great ambition. You don’t scale a movie about the first guy to walk on the moon if you’re not. Chazelle’s fourth feature, First Man—which opens the 75th edition of the Venice Film Festival—tells the story of astronaut Neil Armstrong, one of the unflashiest heroes of NASA, if not of the whole last half of the 20th century. In 1969 Armstrong took the first step onto that strange, powdery surface and uttered a few simple words that captivated people all over the world. But in the years that followed, he largely retreated from publicity. In 2005, at the time James R. Hansen’s biography, First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong, was published, the former star astronaut was living quietly in a Cincinnati suburb. In 2001, while helping to conduct interviews for the official NASA oral history, professor and writer Douglas Brinkley met Armstrong and asked him if he’d ever gazed at the moon before that historic Apollo 11 flight. “No, I never did that,” he said.

Armstrong died in 2012, and it’s hard not to wonder what he’d make of Chazelle’s version of his story, adapted from Hansen’s book by screenwriter Josh Singer. This is a respectful movie, even a genuflecting one; there’s never a moment when Chazelle fails to let you know he’s doing important, valuable work. But that’s the problem: The movie feels too fussed-over for such a low-key hero. Its star, Ryan Gosling, turns in a discreet, sensitive performance, almost too sensitive for the movie around it: Minute after minute, Chazelle and cinematographer Linus Sandgren are right there with the (often) handheld camera, coming in tight for allegedly meaningful closeups or jiggling hard to connote, say, the brain-rattling feeling of being an astronaut leaving the Earth’s atmosphere in a space capsule. The wriggly camera work doesn’t make the jostling more dramatic. If anything, it makes the proceedings seem inconsequential, no-biggie events that need to be jazzed up visually with excess technique.

First Man Neil Armstrong Film with Ryan Gosling
Universal PicturesOn the heels of their six-time Academy Award®-winning smash, “La La Land,” Oscar®-winning director Damien Chazelle and star Ryan Gosling reteam for Universal Pictures’ “First Man,” the riveting story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969.

That’s a drag, because Chazelle and Singer have taken visible care with some of the movie’s dramatic details. First Man doesn’t have the jaunty spirit of Philip Kaufman’s great 1983 Tom Wolfe adaptation, The Right Stuff, which focuses on the original Mercury astronauts, the precursors to Armstrong’s group, who flew the Gemini and Apollo missions. That movie’s cheerful casualness actually enhanced the sense of danger surrounding those early missions. Chazelle chooses another path, and his instincts aren’t inherently wrong. It took a long time for the Gemini astronauts, and later those of the Apollo missions, to reach the moon, and men died trying to get there; in the movie’s best moments, Chazelle makes you feel that weight. He succeeds in making the events directly preceding that first lunar landing, a mission undertaken by Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin (Corey Stoll) and Mike Collins (Lukas Haas), seem suitably tense, even though we all know how it turned out. First Man also helps you imagine the grief Armstrong must have felt when his close friend and colleague, Ed White (Jason Clarke), was burned to death—along with Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee—during a pre-launch test for Apollo 1. Gosling is sensitive enough as an actor to understand Armstrong’s devotion to science, to the point where he must have preferred its language of numbers and facts to the murkier arena of feelings.

There’s a lot of science in First Man. You hear plenty of important-sounding men intoning stuff about vectors and coordinates and the like—a space movie needs that. But there are also a lot of feelings—too many feelings, even for those of us who like them. Chazelle and Singer seem to want to balance the greatness of Armstrong’s achievement with his own personal tragedy: He and his wife, Janet (played, with a great deal of astronaut-wife fortitude, by Claire Foy), lost their young daughter to a brain tumor in the early 1960s; shortly thereafter, Armstrong signed on to become an astronaut. Chazelle seems desperate to link these two events, as if you couldn’t make a pretty good Neil Armstrong movie without doing so. Losing a child is a devastating experience. But in First Man, Gosling’s Armstrong is tasked with reminding us of his pain in practically every other scene: As his daughter is dying, he holds her and gazes at the moon, singing a lunar-themed lullaby. After her death, he has a hallucinatory vision of her playing with some other little kids. Immediately after the funeral, he solemnly slips her little beaded bracelet into a drawer. (Keep an eye on that bracelet—it’s going to make a dramatic return.) Janet reveals to a friend that Armstrong never talks about his daughter; that’s a believable, searing detail. It’s Chazelle, with his constant stream of movie language, who can’t stop jabbering about her.

In 2018, we generally feel bad for men who can’t express their emotions, and most of us are rightly happy that more men have learned it’s OK to do so. But does it really serve men of Armstrong’s generation to have young filmmakers applying Psych 101 principles to their emotions some 60 years after the fact? Chazelle dramatizes several instances in which Armstrong’s background as an aeronautical engineer—and his overall quick thinking—helped prevent disaster, showing that there’s joy in science and exploration by themselves. But too much of First Man made me feel protective, posthumously, of Armstrong’s emotional privacy. Armstrong must have been lying when he told Brinkley he’d never gazed upon the moon—come on, we all look at it from time to time. It belongs to all of us, as a song once said. But Armstrong’s answer indicates that there were some things he just didn’t want to talk about, especially to a stranger. Life, and its loss, is its own mystery. There’s no explanation, and no cure, for the moon inside.

MOVIE APP UPDATE:

Here’s the Instagram Post That Got Ryan Lochte Suspended for a Doping Violation

For anyone else, the post would have been pretty innocuous — a couple receiving IV drips while lounging on plush leather chairs.

But for Olympic athletes, the act is a violation of strict U.S. Anti-Doping (USADA) policies that prohibit IV infusions, even of legal substances, if it’s not related to a hospitalization or directly approved by USADA.

Danielle Eurich, social media and media relations specialist with USADA, confirmed that the post below, which Lochte uploaded in May, launched a USADA investigation that resulted in a 14 month suspension from competitions. Lochte, a 12-time Olympic medalist, captioned the picture with “Athletic recovery with some #ivdrip @revivalivlounge #vitamins.”

Lochte appears to have deleted the post from his social media.

The post included a tag for Revival IV Lounge, which advertises itself on Instagram as “Gainesville’s premier IV Hydration Wellness Lounge,” offering IV drips for hangovers, energy, beauty and chronic illness. A person who answered the phone at Revival IV Lounge declined to comment on whether Lochte had received infusions there or was paid to promote the business on social media.

In its announcement of Lochte’s suspension, USADA says “Lochte received an intravenous infusion of permitted substances at an infusion clinic in a volume greater than 100 ml in a 12-hour period without a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE). Intravenous infusions of injections in a volume greater than 100 ml within a 12-hour period are prohibited at all times — except for those legitimately received in the course of hospital treatment, surgical procedures or clinical diagnostic investigations…” Lochte was not receiving the infusion during a hospitalization nor had he received an exemption from USADA.

At a press conference in Fort Lauderdale on Monday, Lochte told reporters the infusion was a B vitamin complex. “I wasn’t taking anything illegal. Everything was legal. You can get it at CVS, Walgreens, but there are rules, and you have to obey them.”

Lochte recently completed another U.S. Olympic Committee and USA Swimming-imposed suspension for his activities during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janiero. Following his meets, Lochte and several other U.S. Olympic swimmers vandalized a Rio gas station and initially claimed they had been robbed at gunpoint. Lochte later admitted his story was “exaggerated.”

In 2016, Lochte was suspended for 10 months, and lost major sponsors, including Speedo and Ralph Lauren. He only just returned to competition last year, and was planning on competing at the upcoming U.S. national swimming championships in Irvine, California.

More: Ryan Lochte Has Never Played by the Rules

That won’t happen, since USADA banned him from swimming in competitions through July 2019, starting in May, when the picture was posted.

Lochte was focusing his efforts on returning to Olympic swimming in Tokyo in 2020, and during his earlier suspension got married and became a father to son Caiden. “It’s a hard sanction because I wasn’t taking anything illegal, but a rule is a rule. I wasn’t too clear on the rules, but now I am.”

He said Monday he remained committed to swimming at the Olympics again. “Don’t worry. I’m not giving up. I’m going to keep going.”

ENTERTAINMENT DEAL UPDATE:

Ryan Lochte Suspended for Doping Violation After Posting Photo of IV on Social Media

(FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.) — Ryan Lochte posted a photo for the world to see, and the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency noticed.

It got him suspended — again.

The longtime U.S. swimming star has been banned from competition until July 2019, which means the 12-time Olympic medalist cannot compete as planned in the national championships that start this week in California. Lochte will also be ineligible for other top meets, including the Pan Pacific Championships later this year and next year’s world championships.

Lochte’s offense was that he got an intravenous injection in May — a method typically banned under anti-doping rules. The 14-month ban, retroactive to May 24 and announced Monday by USADA, is his second in less than two years following his 10-month suspension for his behavior during a drunken incident that created widespread scorn at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

U.S. anti-doping officials said Lochte, who was holding a news conference Monday in South Florida to discuss the matter, was not taking a banned substance.

In Brazil, he there were questions about his version of what happened.

This time, he revealed what happened — obviously unaware of the ramifications it would bring.

Lochte’s violation essentially came to light when he posted the photo of him getting the IV on his social media accounts. That triggered the USADA investigation, one that Lochte “fully cooperated” with according to U.S. officials.

“Lochte received an intravenous infusion of permitted substances at an infusion clinic,” the USADA announcement of the suspension said. Under most circumstances, athletes cannot receive IVs unless related to a hospitalization or when allowed under the terms of a USADA-approved exemption — and Lochte fell into neither of those categories.

Suspensions for use of an IV are extremely rare: The USADA database shows only two other athletes being sanctioned for using such a method, one of them getting a six-month suspension and the other a 14-month ban. That same database shows that before Monday, no other U.S. swimmer in the last 10 years, for any reason including actual positive tests, had been suspended for more than one year by USADA.

This week could have been a significant step forward for Lochte, who was entered in four events at the U.S. championships at Irvine, California and was preparing to compete in what would have been his biggest competition since the Rio Games. Lochte said that he and three other U.S. Olympic swimmers there were robbed at gunpoint at a gas station, a story that quickly unraveled.

Lochte was not only suspended 10 months for that debacle, but also forfeited $ 100,000 in Olympic medal bonus money and was banned from competing in last year’s national and world championships.

But the bigger hit was to his reputation, one that was less than pristine to begin with.

And now, he’s back in hot water. USADA agreed to start the 14-month clock on May 24, the day that he posted the photo which no longer can be found on his Twitter or Instagram pages. He has previously said that he wants to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, though those hopes would seem to be in at least some doubt now.

Lochte spent much of his career portraying a party-boy image, while his wildly successful exploits in the pool — six Olympic golds, 36 world championship gold medals, no fewer than four world records — were always overshadowed by 28-time Olympic medalist and 23-time Olympic champion Michael Phelps.

After Rio, Lochte was dropped by at least four major sponsors including Speedo USA and Ralph Lauren, though he has added some endorsement deals since. He was also apparently targeted by two men wearing t-shirts bearing an anti-Lochte message rushed the stage while he was competing on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.”

Lochte returned to competition last year, most notably winning the 200-meter individual medley at the U.S. Open. He also has become a father and a husband since Rio — he married former Playboy model Kayla Rae Reid in January, seven months after their son was born.

Lochte will turn 36 during the Tokyo Games. He won gold medals at the 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 games, and if he found a way to win another in Tokyo he would become the oldest Olympic swimming champion.

Ryan Reynolds Roasts Blake Lively After She Jokes She Missed Out on Dating His ‘Hot’ Twin

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively keep one-upping each other in the race to see who can roast better!

While the Deadpool 2 star did actually grow up with three older siblings, his “twin” brother Gordon (who’s actually just actor) occasionally interviews the 41 year old while seemingly trying to take the movie star down a peg or two.

Letting his fans know on Friday that he’d sat down with his twin brother once again, the actor shared a short clip of their interview on social media, writing, “Tomorrow is #WorldGinDay. My brother is an ass. Which is why you can’t have one without the other.”

“It’s nice to see you again,” Gordon tells his brother at the beginning of a short clip. “It’s like looking in a mirror, five years from now.”

“It’s nice to see you Gordon. We’re off to a good start,” the actor sarcastically replied.

Responding to the interview, Lively jokingly suggested that she had picked the wrong Reynolds brother to marry.

“S—. Your brother is hot. I’ve made a terrible mistake…” she wrote in a comment captured by popular Instagram account Comments by Celebs.

Not to be outdone this time, Reynolds playfully responded, “You haven’t made a mistake. You’ve been living with him for over a year.”

Poking fun at each other and their high-profile relationship is nothing new for the couple, who have been married since 2012 and have two daughters: James, 3, and Inez, 20 months.

In May, while insisting that his wife spoil the plot of her upcoming film A Simple Favor — a movie which centers around the mysterious disappearance of Lively’s character  — Reynolds revealed that Lively, 30, actually drove him to the hospital while she was in labor with one of their children.

“You can tell me. We’re married. You once drove me to the hospital when you were giving birth. So..what the f— happened to Emily?” he wrote on Twitter in response to a new trailer for the film that Lively shared on her own account.

In the other America—and make no mistake, there are tens of millions living in this alternative universe—the Obama administration sought to wiretap and spy on the Trump campaign for completely nefarious reasons. They were out to get him from day one.

Blake Lively has starred in Gossip Girl, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and The Shallows, but her greatest role may be that of Instagram troll. Lively has turned teasing her husband Ryan Reynolds into a bona fide art form.

The two wed in 2012, and she has publicly announced that she loves him “most of the time” and shared photos of Ryan Gosling that cropped out Reynolds. Ryan, of course, has his fun too with his hilariously viral tweets.

To keep the game going, Lively uploaded a photo to Instagram of Reynolds staring adoringly at her at the premiere of A Quiet Place. While the photo looks like a wife sweetly congratulating her husband, in fact, the photo depicts Lively’s impressive hair styling skills (if she does say so herself). In the photo caption, Lively wrote, “If there’s one thing I’m infinitely proud of in this picture, it’s the incredible hair styling that I did on myself.” These two are perfect for each other.

Maci Bookout Files for Order of Protection Against Ryan Edwards

Maci Bookout and Ryan Edwards
Maci Bookout and Ryan Edwards

Maci Bookout is taking action. The Teen Mom OG star has filed for an order of protection against ex-boyfriend Ryan Edwards.

According to the docket on the Hamilton County Circuit Court’s website, there are two orders of protection filed against Edwards. The first lists Bookout’s husband, Taylor McKinney, vs. Edwards. The second lists 26-year-old Bookout herself and her three children — Bentley, 9, Jayde, 2, and Maverick, 22 months — vs. Edwards. The MTV personality shares son Bentley with Edwards, and her two youngest with McKinney.

A judge is set to hear the cases on Monday, April 2.

While it’s unclear when Bookout and her husband filed the orders of protection, 30-year-old Edwards found himself in legal trouble on Tuesday, March 27, when he was arrested at his Tennessee home. Red Bank City police confirmed that he was arrested for violating his probation, which was related to a previous heroin possession case. A spokesperson for the Hamilton County Jail told Radar Online that he bonded out at 10:15 p.m. the same day.

Edwards has previously admitted to heroin use in the past, and completed a stay in rehab in May 2017. He made the decision to seek treatment after MTV’s cameras caught him nodding off behind the wheel as he was driving to his wedding to Mackenzie Standifer. The network aired the incident during a 2017 episode of Teen Mom OG, and during another episode in December, 21-year-old Standifer claimed that he was spending $ 10,000 a week on drugs.

“There have been major concerns about Ryan’s sobriety,” a source close to the hit docuseries previously told Us Weekly, noting that the subject is a major topic in the reunion episodes scheduled to air in April. “Ryan needed more inpatient treatment, longer than what he previously got.”

But it hasn’t been all bad news for Edwards this week. After the Monday, March 26, episode of Teen Mom OG, MTV aired a teaser for the April 2 episode, which revealed that Edwards and his wife are expecting their first child together. Standifer is also the mom of Hudson, 4, whom she shares with ex-husband Zachary Stephens.

They’re Married! Maren Morris Weds Ryan Hurd in Nashville

Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd have tied the knot!

The Grammy winner, 27, married the singer-songwriter, 31, on Saturday night in Nashville, PEOPLE confirms — the same city where the musicians first met while co-writing a song for Tim McGraw in 2013.

In the days leading up to the couple’s nuptials, “The Middle” singer documented her excitement as she penned her vows and ended up getting “sentimental AF.”

“Writing vows, feeling sentimental AF and dreaming of this guy being my freaking husband in a few days,” Morris captioned a black and white photo of her and Hurd.

Meanwhile, Hurd released “Diamonds or Twine,” a song he wrote for Morris ahead of their engagement last summer. “I wrote this song for you, played it for you in Michigan the night I asked you to marry me. Diamonds or twine, no matter what, I’ll be wrapped around your finger. I love you, MM. Here’s to forever.”

The two lovebirds became engaged in July 2017, with Morris announcing the news on Instagram with a series of photos in which she showed off her unique uncut diamond ring while holding a Corona Light and resting her hand on Hurd’s leg.

“I know what she likes and I had somebody in Canada put it together. The stone is from New York City, it’s from an uncut diamond, and then the rest of it’s cast just custom for her,” Hurd shared with Entertainment Tonight after popping the question. “I couldn’t just buy something. I had to make it something that fit her.”

And when it came to finding the perfect dress to walk down the aisle in, Morris also chose the one-of-a-kind route.

I’m having the dress made,” Morris previously told PEOPLE, revealing that she was taking inspiration from her mother Kellie, who wore a short dress when she got married in 1989.

“She was a badass and had this short wedding dress, so I sent it to this designer that I love,” Morris explained. “I was like, ‘If we can do a modern version of my mom’s wedding dress just dreaming something up really cool but still throwback with her vibe, I would love to make that happen.’ So I’m just waiting to get sketches back but I know it’ll be perfect.”

The couple also revealed to PEOPLE in January that there was one thing they absolutely needed to have at their reception: tequila.

“Yeah, that’s my go-to — to calm the nerves, energize. Then great music, great food, great people. You can’t really go wrong with those pillars,” Morris said.

Although Morris and Hurd met in 2013, they didn’t begin dating for three more years.

“We had been friends, but there was always this writing chemistry in the room, and eventually, the timing of it was undeniable,” Morris previously told PEOPLE.

Continuing, she added, “We had such a foundation built off writing so many songs over the years that we were like, ‘Why are we avoiding this?’”

‘MAFS’ Recap: Ryan Ditches Jaclyn to Go Drink With His Friends

It’s scary to commit to forever – especially when you’re Married at First Sight. On the Tuesday, March 20, episode of the relationship reality show, the three couples struggled with what it meant to make their marriages the real deal. Some couples navigated the rocky waters with skill, while others were on the verge of sinking.

Shawniece and Jephte Make Up, Again

Jephte was so upset at the prospect of having to surrender his phone to Shawniece that he walked out. She refused to chase him. After getting some (good) advice from his friend, he left her a few roses as an apology. Later, they discussed their five-year plan and surprisingly, seemed to be on the same page when it came to career, travel and kids.

Molly and Jonathan Still Haven’t had Sex

Molly was committed to showing Jonathan more physical affection. Instead, though, she gave him a gift card to his favorite story for his birthday. Apparently, that did the trick, though! No man has ever been more excited for a gift card.

Jaclyn and Ryan Hit a Rough Patch

During a boys’ night out with Jonathan, Jephte, and Pastor Cal, Ryan revealed that he and Jaclyn were feeling tension about her desire to live a “gypsy” lifestyle, which he wasn’t feeling. Pastor Cal reasoned that she might just want some extended vacations, but Ryan argued that she wanted to move abroad. Instead of going home to Jaclyn (who was sick), Ryan opted to leave the boys’ night to hang with a friend. Jaclyn later told the camera that Ryan was drunk and she was feeling a bit over the marriage.

They talked it out the next night. The conversation was civil, but she revealed that she was worried he wasn’t making space for her in his life. He asked for more slack and she asked him if he just didn’t want to be married at all. He insisted he wanted to be married and they hugged it out … for now.

Married at First Sight airs on Lifetime Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET.

E! Is ‘Happy’ with Ryan Seacrest’s Oscars Coverage Despite Relatively Quiet Red Carpet: Source

Critics have pointed out that E!’s Oscars red carpet pre-show, hosted by Ryan Seacrest, lacked its usual A-list lineup compared to ABC’s broadcast — but the network isn’t concerned.

“They are happy with the interviews that they got and the folks that stopped and talked to Ryan. They’re happy with how it went and with who they were able to talk with,” a source close to the situation tells PEOPLE. “They had a wide-ranging group of  talent, nominees and otherwise.”

The question of who might not stop for Seacrest, 43, arose after his former E! News stylist Suzie Hardy alleged that he sexually harassed and assaulted her — including grabbing her crotch multiple times — throughout her employment at E! from 2007-13. Seacrest has staunchly denied her allegations and accused her of blackmail, and his employers have stood by him.

Be sure to check out PEOPLE’s full Academy Awards coverage to get the latest news on Hollywood’s big night.

On Sunday night, stars including Allison Janney, Christopher Plummer, Rita Moreno, Mary J. Blige, Taraji P. Henson, Whoopi Goldberg and Tiffany Haddish chatted with Seacrest. But nominees from major categories like Meryl Streep, Margot Robbie and Timothée Chalamet didn’t, along with presenter and red carpet favorite Jennifer Lawrence, who’d previously told Howard Stern that she wasn’t sure whether she’d stop for E!

Still, the source says there were other factors at play.

“The Oscars is tough because there is that embargo hour for last hour leading up to the awards show where only ABC is able to air interviews. It’s hard to get some of the big names three hours before the event is going to start,” the source explains. “With the natural progression of celebrities arriving on the red carpet, a lot of it does happen closer to the awards show. Oscars specifically is a little bit more challenging because just as outlets are starting to hit a groove, then they have that embargo hour where they aren’t able to freely interview all of the celebrities who come. In years past, that doesn’t work to any other outlet’s advantage.”

The source adds that E! stands by an investigation finding “insufficient evidence” of Hardy’s allegations and calls Seacrest “a consummate professional. He does it all and he continues to do it all. I don’t think a person who wasn’t positive would be able to continue with the schedule he has to keep on a daily basis! He deserves a lot of credit.”

As for that 30-second delay in the broadcast, rumored to be a cushion in case any actors brought up Hardy’s allegations?

“Every show is different when it comes to delays and how the shows come together with the content from multiple cameras. Brief delays always happen, and they do vary from show to show,” the source says. “E! sometimes has to conduct interviews during commercial breaks. This was normal practice, not to protect Ryan.”

The 90th Oscars were held at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center on March 4, 2018, and were telecast live on ABC.

It’s Time for Paul Ryan to Remove Devin Nunes

At a time when insane is the new normal, our ability to be outraged is dulled amid daily incoming. But Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee—led by their chairman, Trump lackey Devin Nunes—somehow hit a new low with Thursday’s revelation that they leaked to Fox News texts from Senate Intelligence Committee Co-Chairman Mark Warner and a Russian businessman in a desperate attempt to discredit the Senator. Those texts  were then retweeted by our president, in a brushback pitch for Warner’s insistence on investigating Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election—and potential collusion with the Trump campaign—without fear or favor.

This bombshell story, first reported by the New York Times, is not your garden variety Trump-related drama. It’s worse. At a time when institutional checks and balances are needed more than ever, it underscored just how bad the blood is on Capitol Hill—not just between the two parties, but between the House and the Senate itself.

Devin Nunes—a California dairy farmer who degraded himself by becoming a Congressman—deserves disproportionate blame for this pathetic mess. His committee has turned the pursuit of truth into a partisan mockery, choosing to do the White House’s bidding at the expense of honest inquiry and fact-based debate.

Ryan Seacrest will still be hosting E!’s Oscars red carpet amid sexual abuse allegations

But how will it go down on the night?

Ryan Seacrest

US TV presenter Ryan Seacrest is a staple of award show season, hosting the E! network’s coverage and interviewing A-list celebrities on the red carpet.

While the Oscars 2018 is one of Ryan’s busiest gigs, with his red carpet interviews being a regular Academy Awards fixture, there was talk that they might be axed this year, after sexual abuse allegations against the 43-year-old emerged.

It was announced this week however that Ryan would stay at the helm of the show as scheduled, after a ‘comprehensive and thorough’ investigation.

The allegations in question came from a former E! News wardrobe stylist who reported to Variety that Seacrest had behaved sexually aggressively towards her for years, something that Seacrest has denied.

‘Much has been said about the #MeToo and Times Up movement(s) and the importance of providing women and men with the opportunity to share their stories of workplace misconduct, in an effort to change our culture and the systemic inequalities that exist,’ Ryan announced in a previous statement. ‘I absolutely support this cause unequivocally and applaud all the brave souls who have come forward to share their stories.’

He continued: ‘Sadly, last fall I became one of the accused, which I promptly revealed proactively to the network involved and to the public. And to be equally clear, those accusations were then investigated by an independent third-party over the course of a two-month process and involved dozens of interviews that included me, the accused and countless others. Ultimately, my name was cleared. I eagerly participated in the investigation in order to demonstrate my innocence because I know my truth, and I believe in due process.’

E!’s investigation was extremely comprehensive and thorough,’ the network announced in a recent statement. ‘Over the course of a two-month process, our outside counsel interviewed more than two dozen people regarding the allegations, including multiple separate meetings with the claimant and all firsthand witnesses that she provided. The investigator is an attorney with nearly 20 years experience and is highly regarded professionally. Any claims that question the legitimacy of this investigation are completely baseless.’

Confirming Ryan Seacrest’s return to his 2018 Oscars hosting duties, the network confirmed to The Cut on the same day that the red carpet pre-show would go ahead as planned on Sunday.

‘I don’t want to accuse anyone of not telling the truth,’ Ryan announced, addressing the accusations, according to The Wrap. ‘But in this case, I have no choice but to again deny the claims against me, remind people that I was recused of any wrongdoing, and put the matter to rest.’

Ryan Seacrest Denies Sexual Abuse Claims From Former Stylist

Ryan Seacrest has denied his former personal stylist’s new claims of sexual abuse, after she came forward publicly to detail his alleged misconduct, following an internal investigation by E! in which her complaint was dismissed.

“I don’t want to accuse anyone of not telling the truth but in this case, I have no choice but to again deny the claims against me, remind people that I was recused of any wrongdoing, and put the matter to rest,” Seacrest said in a statement to TheWrap on Tuesday.

The denial comes after Suzie Hardy, who started working as Seacrest’s personal stylist at E! News in 2006, told Variety on Monday that the TV host had sexually harassed her for years. Hardy’s claims include unwanted, sexually aggressive touching and groping by Seacrest. Hardy claimed she was fired after reporting the alleged sexual abuse to the company’s human resources department in 2013.

The sexual misconduct allegations were originally made public in November by Seacrest, who issued a statement denying the accusations.

“Recently, someone that worked as a wardrobe stylist for me nearly a decade ago at E! News, came forward with a complaint suggesting I behaved inappropriately toward her,” he said at the time. “If I made her feel anything but respected, I am truly sorry. I dispute these reckless allegations and I plan to cooperate with any corporate inquiries that may result.”

Seacrest, who hosts ABC’s Live With Kelly & Ryan, appeared on the show Tuesday but did not mention the new allegations.

E! issued a statement in January saying there was insufficient evidence to support the accusations against Seacrest. The network said Seacrest will continue to host the Oscars’ red carpet pre-show event at the 2018 Academy Awards, and a spokesperson for ABC said the network will still stand by the host.
