Olivia Palermo Said Readying E-commerce Platform

Is Olivia Palermo rethinking the online shopping experience?
The fashion entrepreneur, whose collaboration with the late Karl Lagerfeld’s brand bows in June, is preparing to unveil an e-commerce platform, WWD has learned. The platform will live on Palermo’s web site and will have a multibrand boutique element. It will focus on bags, shoes and accessories to start, and will include collaborations that Palermo has created, including her forthcoming one with the Lagerfeld label.
A pop-up box on Palermo’s web site was an indicator that a change to its content was in the works. “Big things coming soon,” reads the box, which prompts users to sign up for e-mail alerts.
The web site currently includes clips of Palermo’s modeling and design work, as well as general information about her. There is also a link to her collaboration with sunglass brand Westward Leaning; however, users aren’t yet able to shop the collection on Palermo’s site and are instead redirected to Westward Leaning’s.
As the note on her web site indicates, big changes are in the works at Palermo’s brand. The forthcoming e-commerce platform is said to be complemented by and grounded in editorial content. It is not yet clear exactly what kind of content Palermo will

Here’s what Angelina Jolie said about running for President

Exciting much?

Angelina jolie instagram debut
REX

Angelina Jolie is one of the most talked about people in the world, and from her Academy Award winning acting roles and her motherhood skills to her humanitarian work, Ange has truly proven that she can do it all.

It’s hardly surprising therefore that people were quick to throw her hat into the ring as a presidential candidate.

While Angelina didn’t bat the rumours away, reportedly telling People ‘never say never’, when asked if she was running for office, it unfortunately doesn’t look like it’s on her to-do list now.

‘Right now I am looking to others for leadership,’ the humanitarian explained.

Angelina Jolie

Rex

Why? She’s got her hands full.

‘If you look across the world, there are far too many women and girls who are not only not seeing progress, their rights are slipping away from them,’ Angelina continued to tell People. ‘One of the things we are putting forward now is a proposal for a permanent international body to investigate war crimes, including mass rape and other sexual and gender-based violence.’

This isn’t the first time Angelina has been rumoured to be running for President, with the actress asked back in 2014 in an interview with Good Morning America if she would ever consider it.

Ange’s response? ‘You know, if I thought I’d be effective, I would. But I’m not sure if I would ever be taken seriously in that way, and be able to be effective.’

Well as Angelina said, never say never!

“Why Did This Happen To Me?” R. Kelly’s Ex-Hair Braider Said Singer Tried To Force Oral Sex & Spat On Her

R. Kellys former hairstylist details alleged 2003 sexual assault

Source: Chicago Tribune / Getty

It might be hard to imagine that R. Kelly could find himself in even more trouble than he’s already in. But the reach of his hurt and pain is expansive. And just when you think we understand the full scope of it, there’s another woman who comes forward with another story.

This time, Kelly’s former hair stylist, Lanita Carter, who was once an anonymous accuser, revealed her identity today on “CBS This Morning.”

In her sit down interview, Carter spoke about the sexual assault she experienced at the hands of Kelly in 2003, when she was 24-years-old. Carter said she had been working as Kelly’s braider for a year and even defended him in 2002, when he was arrested on child pornography charges. Carter described Kelly with two words: “Perfect gentleman.”

“I would tell people, ‘Pray for him. I do his hair. He is nothing like what they say.’

But the next year, on February 18, 2003, Carter alleged that Kelly called her in to braid his hair. Later. he asked her to massage his head. She told him she didn’t do massages. “I laughed it off. I didn’t know he was for real. If I could change that day, I wouldn’t have been there.

Kelly allegedly yanked her head down by her braid and demanded that he perfom oral sex on her.

Carter said Kelly repeatedly told her, “Suck it for Daddy.”

Carter tried to shield herself from his body with her hand, pulling away from him. In response, Kelly started hawking up saliva, spitting on her.

Carter said the only thing that made him stop was someone knocking on the door.

“He didn’t open the door right away. He says, ‘Fix your face. Fix your muthaf*cking face.’ I knew that’ll be my last day there.”

Carter went to the bathroom and started questioning herself.

“I get to the bathroom and I grab the wall and it was a rose colored towel. I wipe my face. I’m not dressed no type of way. I look at myself in the mirror, I’m not a beauty queen. I didn’t perceive myself to be more than just his hair braider. And I just kept thinking to myself, why did this happen to me.”

Carter called authorities the same day to report the incident.

“They asked for my clothing and I gave them my favorite Tommy Hilfiger shirt and that’s where they found DNA evidence. Semen.”

For whatever reason, charges were not filed against Kelly in 2003. Carter offered her theory about the reason why this might have been so.

“Celebrities are powerful. Celebrities have support systems. I have no support system outside of my immediate family.”

Six months later, Carter signed a $ 650,000 settlement where Kelly denied any wrong doing and Carter agreed to keep quiet.

In 2009, R. Kelly released, “Hair Braider” a song about having sex with the woman who braids his hair.

Carter said there were references to her in the lyrics and music video. Kelly sings, “Zig zag braids, got em looking like spaghetti.”

Carter said, “That was one of the hair styles that I was known for doing. We were on the L shaped couch when the incident happened.”

The song led to another confidential settlement, this one for $ 100,000. In documents, Kelly denies any wrong doing but agreed never to perform it again or include it on any of his future albums.

After the documentary, Cook County State Attorney Kimberly Foxx asked that victims of Kelly come forward and share their stories.

Carter said, “I would be going on with my day, you turn on the news, here’s another R. Kelly victim. Another R. Kelly victim. Another R. Kelly victim. You just want to be there for them.”

Carter said that interestingly enough, Kelly’s interview with Gayle King that inspired her to come forward and tell her story publicly.

“I know that I love myself today. I know that I don’t care what anybody say about me. This is a release. I been carrying this since 2003. I don’t want to be in the public but this is my life. If I die tomorrow, I know that I told the truth.”

You can watch Carter’s interview in the video below.

Jussie Smollett Charges DROPPED and the Record Has Been Sealed, Chicago Police Said to be ‘Furious’

Prosecutors have dropped ALL charges against Jussie Smollett and his record is being wiped clean.

Jussie has also agreed to forfeit his $ 10,000 bond.

“After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollett’s volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case,” the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office stated in an email.

Sources tell CBS 2 that CPD Superintendent Eddie Johnson is “furious” and that he received no notification about the charges being dropped.

He’s reportedly planning to speak after the police graduation taking place.

Jussie’s attorney released a statement via email.

“Today, all criminal charges against Jussie Smollett were dropped and his record has been wiped clean of the filing of this tragic complaint against him. Jussie was attacked by two people he was unable to identify on January 29th. He was a victim who was vilified and made to appear as a perpetrator as a result of false and inappropriate remarks made to the public causing an inappropriate rush to judgement,” spokeswoman Anne Kavanaugh stated in an email.

“Jussie and many others were hurt by these unfair and unwarranted actions. This entire situation is a reminder that there should never be an attempt to prove a case in the court of public opinion. That is wrong. It is a reminder that a victim, in this case Jussie, deserves dignity and respect. Dismissal of charges against the victim in this case was the only just result.

“Jussie is relieved to have this situation behind him and is very much looking forward to getting back to focusing on his family, friends and career.”

Stay tuned…

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Said She Doesn’t Have The Range To Speak On The Plight Of Black Americans And Her Remark On Reparations Proves It

2019 SXSW Conference And Festival - Day 3

Source: Gary Miller / Getty

Reader Submission by Ebony Moore

Just the other day I found myself grinning at my android screen as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) stated her place in speaking for Black Americans. To paraphrase, she basically stated that as a Puerto Rican, her ancestry is comprised of European (Spaniard), Indigenous (Taino) and, African (the most litty ingredient) blood. She went on to explain how she is both made up of those racial components but is not singularly one of those things at the same time. I let out a sigh of relief at her admission. She had established and maintained her lane by admitting that she doesn’t have the range to speak for the plight of African Americans. My feelings of “you get me” that the Freshman, Democratic representative sparked would soon come crashing down, however.

As I waited for my trolley to arrive to carry me from work, I grew antsy and did what every millennial accustomed to over-consumption and social anxiety does in nerve wracking situations, I decided to take my thumb for a walk through the mean streets of Twitter. Once there, I stumbled upon the often problematic and always hotep posts of Tariq Nasheed. He had shared a video of AOC and captioned, “What in the hell is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez talking about”. My eyebrow rose. He went on to lament, “When reparations for Foundational Black Americans come up, these people start engaging in deflective, incoherent babble”. I shook my head like Alfred Woodard when she was Wanda in Holiday Heart.

While sitting as a guest at South by Southwest (SXSW), AOC fielded questions from Briahna Gray, a seasoned and highly credentialed editor for The Intercept. AOC was asked, “What is the political cost of saying you’re going to throw your hat in with a program like reparations, how much do you think those considerations should be made?” I smiled. Surely the young woman who constantly touts her Bronx lineage, Puerto Rican heritage, socialist rhetoric and much-needed trillion dollar Green New Deal would agree that the descendants of men and women who built this country without pay, deserve to be made whole. Not only was I wrong, she had me out here looking stupid as she stumbled over and completely bombed her answer.

“ Well, you know it’s a good question, I think that one of the things that we’ve seen here from early polling, actually, is that I think that we should distance ourselves and start getting away from this idea that that we should only care about ourselves,” she started. “Because when we really do start to assert and believe and understand and see how how our destinies are tied, it doesn’t, you kind of get away from this idea that only people of you know people of color care about other people of color, and only white people care about other white people, and so on. There are a lot of systems that we have to dismantle, but it also it does get into this interesting area of where we are as a country, about identity. Because, like, what does it mean to be black, who is black and who isn’t, especially as our country becomes more biracial and multiracial. Same with being Latino, same thing it brings up all these questions like passing, and you know, things like that. But I do think it is important that we have to have substantive conversations about race beyond, like, what is racist and what is not, and if someone says something racist does that make them racist, like, we need to get away from talking well, not that we have to get away from talking about racism, it’s important that we talk about racism but because we talked about racism so much, we actually are not talking about race itself. And we aren’t educating ourselves about our own history to come to the conclusion that I think we need to come to.”

Why does it seem like every time you go public with your love of someone they let you down? That’s a whole other article, by the way. If your face is twisted up like you just heard some mean battle rap bars then –samsies! What the hell does that even mean? How does demanding reparations equate to African Americans only caring about themselves?

After watching this clip, I could not help but think back to Ocasio-Cortez’s admittance that she is not Black and, therefore, not qualified to speak for Black people. I pondered over the connection between her being a certain percentage African but not African American. For me, it became clear that AOC is not sold (pun intended) on reparations due to the fact that those who are not directly descendants from slaves in the Unites States, but still minorities and embattled, would not reap benefits from such a measure, namely Puerto Ricans like herself. In other words, African Americans are trying to put a little too much dip on our chip and she’s not with it. Should we then remain with her?

Black Folk Had A Problem With J. Lo’s Motown Tribute…Smokey Robinson Said They’re Stupid

61st Annual GRAMMY Awards - Inside

Source: Emma McIntyre / Getty

Last week, there were rumblings that Jennifer Lopez would be performing during a Motown tribute. In the Black year of 2019, during the 61st celebration of the Grammy Awards. The news spread far and wide and Black folks were fiery in their dissension. But when the Grammys released their list of performers on their website, J. Lo’s name was conveniently left off the list, so we assumed that it was a lie to start drama or that someone had come to their senses and realized that a White-presenting Puerto Rican woman shouldn’t honor a record label that was about excellence in Black artistry and entrepreneurship.

But we were wrong. And last night, Jenny from the block took the stage to honor legends who could have easily performed themselves.

Check it out below.

That just wasn’t it.

And as expected the backlash poured in. Interestingly enough though, there was one Motown legend, who didn’t seem to take issue with J. Lo’s performance…at all. And that was Smokey Robinson, who helped Alicia Keys to introduce J. Lo’s nearly 7-minute medley. In an interview with VarietyRobinson said anyone who took issue with J. Lo’s performance is “stupid.”

“I don’t think anyone who is intelligent is upset,” he said. “I think anyone who is upset is stupid.”

Robinson claimed that Motown music is “for everybody.”

“Who’s stupid enough to protest Jennifer Lopez doing anything for Motown?” Smokey asked.

Well, that’s one opinion. But based on the reaction from more than a few other people, Robison was in the minority. See what other folks had to say about Lopez on the following pages.

Congressional Talks on Border Security Are Said to Have Broken Down

Talks to avert a second government shutdown over border wall funding broke down on Saturday, and Republicans and Democrats have stopped communicating for now, according to two people familiar with the state of the talks.

The latest sticking point appears to be over detention beds operated by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, one person said.

Mick Mulvaney, the acting White House chief of staff, said Sunday that a shutdown isn’t the most likely option but that he “absolutely cannot” rule it out.

“He’s going to do whatever he legally can to secure the border,” Mulvaney said of President Donald Trump on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” one of two scheduled appearances on Sunday talk shows.

“You cannot take a shutdown off the table, and you cannot take $ 5.7 (billion) off the table,” he said, referring to the level of funds Trump has been demanding for a wall on the U.S.-Mexican border.

Mulvaney spoke as Congressional negotiators continue talks on a security plan that includes some sort of barrier on the border, hoping to complete a deal to avert another government shutdown. It wasn’t fair to say that Trump would sign whatever Congress comes up with, Mulvaney said, terming the level of proposed border wall funding “all over the map.”

As of Saturday it seemed that negotiators were homing in on a proposal with border barrier funding of between $ 1.3 billion and $ 2 billion, said a person familiar with the talks.

Trump was back in the fray late Saturday afternoon, indicating in a tweet that if Democrats didn’t give him all the wall money he’s demanded, he may use executive action to build it. Democrats have warned such action would face court challenges, and some Republicans have suggested it’s an option best avoided.

Katherine Jackson Said To Be Gravely Ill [Report]

(AP Photo)

Katherine Jackson, the matriarch of the famed Jackson family, is reportedly gravely ill, with family members already fighting over her share of the late Michael Jackson’s estate (according to Stacy M. Brown – National Newspaper Publishers Association/NNPA) .

Outlets like Radar Online and even the Atlanta Black Star have reported that Jackson, 88, is facing brain surgery.

Previously, the outlets reported that Jackson has had several strokes and other ailments that have left her wheelchair-bound and dependent upon caretakers.

The latest reports also suggest that several of Jackson’s children have engaged in a fierce battle to control their mother’s share of the late King of Pop’s vast estate – valued at more than $ 1 billion.

“Now everybody in the family is jockeying for position!” a source told the National Enquirer. Although a rep denied it, two family insiders claimed the great-grandmother has suffered from excruciating headaches, leading to a hospital visit in late summer, the tabloid reported.

“Katherine is in dire condition,” another source told RadarOnline.com. “Now everybody in the family is jockeying for position.”

“Her doctor thought she had a stroke,” another unnamed source – described as an insider – told Radar. According to another source, Katherine remained hospitalized for about a week.

“More tests were conducted to see if her condition might be something even more serious – like a brain tumor,” the source said.

The family insider said doctors discovered a golf ball-sized growth on Katherine’s brain and declared she must undergo surgery as soon as possible.

She Said What She Said: Mo’Nique Has No Regrets

Mo’Nique left a sour taste in the mouths of many when she stood up for herself against streaming platform Netflix, accusing the company of racial and gender bias. She even called out radio personality Charlamagne tha God for giving her “Donkey of the Day.”

As reported by thejasminebrand.comMo revisits these controversies in a new interview and explains why she thinks Charlamagne sends out poison through the airwaves and why she doesn’t regret putting Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, and Lee Daniels on blast.

See the excerpts below (via theJasminebrand):

Does she regret what she said about Winfrey, Perry, and Daniels:

Never. Lemme tell you something, I said one thing on stage a couple years ago at the Apollo about (“Precious” producer) Oprah Winfrey, (Precious director”) Lee Daniels and (Precious producer) Tyler Perry, and people say, ‘Do you regret saying that?’ And then I pause and I say, ‘Hell no, I don’t regret it.’ I meant every word I said.

On why she revealed the info she did about “Precious.”

That movie cost $ 10 million to make and it made $ 63 million. I was paid $ 50,000. And because black actresses are so underpaid, Lee Daniels thought that was a lot of money. I’m going to quote him, in my dressing room, as we were between scenes: ‘I got you paid on this one.’

And I said, ‘Lee, I say this with all humility, but that’s not money. Baby, I make that in one hour standing up on the stage doing comedy.’ In their minds, I’m a fat black woman and I should be honored that they were even calling on me. But if I’m in Cannes for even one day and I’m making you money but I’m not making me money, I cannot do that.

Why she did it:

The biggest risk is me saying nothing and the woman in the mirror looking back at me saying, ‘You’re such a coward.’ That’s the risk. When that woman looks back at me in the mirror, I want her to say, ‘You damn right. You damn right. Keep going.’

Her feelings towards Charlamagne tha God:

Because I know that every morning he turns that button on, he’s poisoning my community. It makes me sick to my stomach. So I wasn’t trying to be funny or offensive — I’m going to call you by your name because we’re having a real conversation right now. We’re not in pretend — and that name is pretend. We’ve got to talk for real right now.

And when he calls me “Donkey of the Day” because I was asking for equality, are you crazy? When you hear a man say that, I had to talk to him — with love also, because I love that brother. But it’s disheartening to know that he sits behind that microphone and millions of people listen to the poison that he puts in our community. So I’m gonna keep on speaking about the inequality in Hollywood. I have to.

The Oscar-winning actress on her late-night BET talk show being cancelled:

I will say The Mo’Nique Show was the highest rated show in that time slot in the history of BET and it doubled the ratings for the network. Now, I can’t make that make sense. Can you? We got picked up for a third season and then that was called back.

Think about the timing of all of this and I’m going to let you put this all together. I can’t assume nothing. But I’m just telling you, think about the timing. How do you let go of a show that’s doubled the numbers for your network — with no explanation?
