Nordstrom Spring Sale – Save Up to 50% off through 4/22

Surprise. It’s another sale from Nordstrom. Still nowhere near the frequency of other retailers or brands, but Nordstrom HAS been ramping up their sales in recent times. And that’s a good thing for those of us who love Nordstrom. Of all the department stores out there, Nordstrom might be the only one that not just gets it right, but gets it REALLY right. Great 3rd party selection, a huge variety of goods at various prices, and the free shipping and free returns always helps.

There’s over 4,000 items in this sale. Not as big as a half-yearly monster clearance. But it’s not some small thing either. Off we go with the picks…

Nordstrom Trim Fit Stretch Wool Tuxedo – $ 213.98 ($ 498)

Nordstrom Trim Fit Stretch Wool Tuxedo

I mean, I know it’s a notch lapel and most prefer peak or shawl when it comes to evening wear… but… nice price. Especially considering it ships and returns for free. Sold as separates, so don’t forget the pants.

Nordstrom Trim Fit Non-Iron Dress Shirt – $ 32.90 ($ 49.50)

Nordstrom

Staples. Well made staples. 200+ reviews and almost 5/5 stars. Great collars for going tieless too.

Nordstrom Trim Fit Linen Sport Coat – $ 124.49 ($ 249)

Nordstrom

100% linen and just butterfly lined in the back. This reminds me that I need to get crackin’ on the best warm weather sportcoats post.

adidas Samba OG Sneaker – $ 59.96 ($ 79.95)

adidas Samba OG Sneaker

Wait a minute. Burgundy accents. Gum sole. Perforations…. SOMEONE ALERT THE FRUGALMALEFASHION COMMUNITY. This here is an imposter of their one true lord!

Nordstrom Trim Fit Flat Front Stretch Wool Trousers – $ 49.75 ($ 99.50)

Nordstrom

How much? Under $ 50 for stretch wool dress pants? Not bad at all. Un-hemmed, so, you’ll need to have a tailor shorten them to your specified preferred break. Trim fit. Flat front.

Tissot Blue Dial Chrono – $ 262.50 ($ 350)

Tissot Blue Dial Chrono

Quartz of course, but Swiss made and from a well known, dependable brand. NOT small. 45mm in diameter. Repeat. FORTY FIVE.

Herschel Supply Co. Novel Offset Denim Duffel Bag – $ 42.49 ($ 85)

Herschel Supply Co. Novel Offset Denim Duffel Bag

Herschel’s famous “Novel” bag, complete with separate shoe compartment. Also available in a solid light gray if that’s more your speed.

Cole Haan Feathercraft Grand Derby – $ 142.50 ($ 180)

Cole Haan Feathercraft Grand Derby

Just 20% off, which ain’t much for Cole Haan, but… there’s something about them. Especially that gray suede option?

Marc New York Humboldt Quilted Jacket – $ 85.70 ($ 175)

Marc New York Humboldt Quilted Jacket

A standard quilted jacket with a surprise inside. Extra insulated thanks to a high-pile fleece liner vest that’s also detachable. Too hot one day? You can ditch it. How prudent.

Cole Haan Original Grand Wingtip – $ 112.50 ($ 150)

Cole Haan Original Grand Wingtip

Some people love these things. Some think they’re an abomination. I ain’t judging. At least, not this time. I swear Tony Kornheiser wears these a lot on the set of PTI. You can sorta see his kicks when they cut to a wide shot when Wilbon is on the road somewhere.

Original Penguin Track Jacket – $ 62.49 ($ 125)

Original Penguin Track Jacket

Speaking of PTI. Penguin Dance!

Bonobos Cotton & Linen Blend Henley – $ 48.98 ($ 98)

Bonobos Cotton & Linen Blend Henley

Half off is good. Very good! Fifty bones for a basic henley doesn’t feel as good, but, it’s Bonobos. And there are plenty of Bonobos fans out there. The fit, the finish, etc. More than a few colors to choose from here.

Saturdays NYC Norfolk Water Repellent Duffel Bag – $ 112.49 ($ 225)

Saturdays NYC Norfolk Water Repellent Duffel Bag

Not bad for a good sized duffel with a bit of saturated color. 20″W x 13″H x 9″D are the dimensions.

Nordstrom Tech-Smart Trim Fit Stretch Check Dress Shirt – $ 34.75 ($ 69.50)

Nordstrom

From their tech-smart line. 80% cotton, 13% polyester, 7% spandex engineered to be breathable and have plenty of stretch.

The Rail Everett Plain Toe Derby – $ 66.96 ($ 99.95)

The Rail Everett Plain Toe Derby

Those shoes sure are shoey! Plain toe derby = probably what you’d see in a dictionary if you looked up the word shoe. Maybe. Who knows. Depends on how fancy the illustrator was feeling that day. From a Nordstrom house line. For the less is more crowd. And warm weather, for some reason, makes simple bluchers like these look all the better.

1901 Slim Fit Sport Shirt – $ 29.75 ($ 59.50)

1901 Slim Fit Sport Shirt

Horizontal Stripes! Take it away SVP.

1901 Moro Bar Tack Leather Belt – $ 29.70 ($ 49.50)

1901 Moro Bar Tack Leather Belt

Like Nordstrom decided to jump on the GAP essential belt wagon. Also available in black. 1 1/4″ belt width; 1 3/4″ square buckle.

Todd Snyder x Timex Watches – $ 74 ($ 148)

Todd Snyder x Timex Watches

I don’t recall the mod or black jack getting to this price point in the past. And the leather straps? Had no idea that was even an option. Big thanks to Matt S. for the tip here.

Cole Haan GrandPro Tennis Sneaker – $ 97.50 ($ 130)

Cole Haan GrandPro Tennis Sneaker

Good grief there’s a lot of Cole Haan in this sale. Some suede, some perforated, some not.

Barbour Shadow Duffel Bag – $ 214.49 ($ 429)

Barbour Shadow Duffel Bag

Moon Mills UK made tweed makes up the exterior. No idea where the thing is constructed as a whole though. “Aye Lass! Where be me ear trumpet and moustache wax?” “Iz in yee plahd bahg ma Deer!” “AH! Fah fuk’s sake Lass. Yee right ahs YOOSuahlllll!”

Thomas and Vine Plain Toe Derby – $ 66.95 ($ 99.95)

Thomas and Vine Plain Toe Derby

A little funky (look at that lighter blue accent on the brown pair) but perhaps that’s what you’re going for at sixty seven dollars. Five different colors to pick from.

1901 Short Wings – $ 65.96 ($ 109.95)

1901 Short Wings

Inexpensive, versatile, short wings for spring. From Nordstroms’ younger leaning “1901” house brand.

Hart Schaffner Marx Classic Fit Plaid Wool Sport Coat – $ 247.49 ($ 495)

Hart Schaffner Marx Classic Fit Plaid Wool Sport Coat

100% true-blue worsted wool with a simple windowpane pattern. And? It’s made in Canada.

Jack Mason Nautical Chronograph – $ 109.97 ($ 275)

Jack Mason Nautical Chronograph

Yes, it’s a “fashion” brand, and not some heritage watchmaker. Doesn’t mean they can’t make a nice looking timepiece.

Cole Haan Harrison Grand Cap Toe Oxford – $ 139.90 ($ 220)

Cole Haan Harrison Grand Cap Toe Oxford

Entry level dress shoes. True oxfords with a cap toe. Probably won’t last you a lifetime, but with reasonable care, should last you a while. Well reviewed.

Lamarque Leather Racer Jacket – $ 279 ($ 525)

Lamarque Leather Racer Jacket

Not bad for a leather moto style jacket. Leather quality can really vary, so, give it a good strong look once it arrives. If it’s not up to snuff? Send it back. You can do that since it’s Nordstrom. For free.

Asics GEL-Kayano 25 Running Shoe – $ 119.95 ($ 159.95)

Asics GEL-Kayano 25 Running Shoe

Surprise! What the heck are these doing here? Because if you’re like me, and a bit more dump truck than gazelle, these could change your life. I’m a heavy striker. But I can be fast if I need to be fast. 200 lbs of men’s style blogger can get chuggin’ if need be, and these have helped protect my knees and back and all that jazz for a long time. I lift in these. I kickbox in these. I walk/run the dog in these. Worth every penny. And the new design (especially the white/gray/black) don’t look like hot baby poo when paired up with some warm up pants and a decent track jacket.

Nordstrom Rack: Numerous Hamilton Automatics all for 40% – 50% off:

Hamilton

Why the Nordstrom Rack mention? Because there are a LOT of watches in this Spring sale. Lots of Hamiltons. For around 25% – 30% off. But there’s still a ton of really attractive Hamilton autos on Nordstrom Rack for, wait for it, 50% off. So, before you fall in love with a Hammy on the Nordy main site, maybe check out The Rack?

The Nordstrom Spring Sale is set to run through 4/22. What’d we miss? Send in any tips you have on any further steals in this Nordstrom Spring Sale to joe@dappered.com.

How To Ensure a Quick Sale in a Competitive Market

Spring is the busiest season in the real estate market and in some areas, it can be quite a competitive time to sell your home with more homes on the market and more buyers looking to purchase. With more buyers, this season can mean a faster sell and a higher selling price provided you take the steps to ensure your home is in move-in-ready condition to attract the right buyers and encourage higher offers!

Get a Professional Opinion

No matter how objective you try to be, the reality is that your view of your home is colored by your own experiences, your personal style and your lifestyle needs which may not match the needs of your prospective buyer. Enlist the help of your realtor and a professional home stager. They can give you insight into the type of buyer that will be interested in your neighborhood, suggest updates and styles that will appeal to that audience and point out flaws that you may have overlooked but that potential buyers will notice.

Focus On Key Areas

There are some areas of the home that will affect the resale of your home more then others. Curb appeal – or the exterior of the home – is a good place to start. If your home looks outdated, dirty or in need of repair, you likely won’t make it past the initial drive-by, let along score a viewing with most buyers. Replace or repair damaged siding, windows, shingles and the like. Clean up the yard and outdoor living spaces. Apply a fresh coat of paint in a modern color to the exterior and any outbuildings, decks, fences or other structures if needed.

With your curb appeal intact, the next step is to ensure the interior of your home is ready to impress as well. It is important to stage each room: a fresh coat of paint in a neutral color, de-cluttering, proper furniture placement and the like can make a huge difference without a huge cost.

The two rooms in the house that should get the most of your attention and budget are the kitchen and bathrooms. If these areas are out of date or need repairs, potential buyers will see that as a major expense and a lot of work. Ensuring these rooms are up to date with modern styles and popular features is an important step to ensure your home stands out and receives top offers. If funding those types of updates out of pocket isn’t an option, a home equity loan can allow you to access the funds to complete the updates and then pay back the balance once the home sells.

Don’t Hide… Repair

It can be tempting to hide defects instead of repairing them. From placing a potted plant over a stain in the carpet to hiding structural issues from potential buyers, it’s always better to do the work in advance. Hiding larger problems like a cracked foundation or a broken central air unit can result in legal action and huge costs for you later on and hiding smaller things like stains or broken items is often ineffective. Potential buyers can be very picked, looking inside drawers, closets, cabinets, under furniture and more. Finding one small hidden problem will tell that that they may find many more that they haven’t seen yet and will actually lower their perceived value of your home. It is always better to repair before you list and if funding is an issue, this is another situation where a home equity loan can be the answer, allowing you to sell your home for a higher value and potentially saving you from legal issues down the road.

Avoid High Maintenance Features

Not all updates are considered equal. While updating your kitchen or bathroom to a more modern style will help increase the value of your home, here are some updates that will actually make it harder to sell. In particular, updates that require a lot of time or cost to maintain and aren’t common to the neighborhood should be avoided. For example, if you live in a neighborhood where every home has a pool, chances are potential buyers will be looking for one. But, if you live in a neighborhood where a pool isn’t common place, potential buyers may be turned off by the cost of maintaining a pool and this can actually hurt the ability to sell your home quickly! If you’re not sure, speak to your real estate agent or home stager before undertaking costly updates to ensure they will offer a good return on investment.

Allen Edmonds Anniversary Sale 2019 Top 10

Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. Here’s why.

And here’s one: You know that confident feeling you get when wearing your favorite suit? Imagine feeling that way about your finances. Personal Capital tracks your net worth and spending for free, so you know where your savings stand and how your investments are performing. Get started here.

Allen Edmonds Anniversary Sale 2019

NOTE: Looks like they’ve quietly launched Anniversary Sale pricing one day early. So, it’s on!

Allen Edmonds has been around for 97 years. Impressive. And each year they celebrate their birthday with a big fat sale. It’s a “select items” sale. Meaning, some items are on more sale than others. Below you’ll find our picks for the best of the best in terms of price to style ratio. For those who haven’t signed up for their email list (aka Collector’s Club) yet, you might be able to stack that first time sign up 15% off code with these savings. Not sure though. Got a tip on something we missed? Send those suggestions into joe@dappered.com.

#1. McAllister Wingtip Oxford – $ 249 ($ 395)

All the visual interest of a wingtip, but you still get the conservative toe shape and classy looks of a true oxford. Tons of colors to pick from. Multiple widths to choose from too. All sorts of right.

#2. Cornwallis Dress Oxford – $ 249 ($ 395)

Contemporary without being overly flashy. Sexy without being thirsty. The Cornwallis might be one of the best looking shoes Allen Edmonds has ever come out with. Is it as timeless as the McAllister wingtip? Nah. Is it, uh… hawt? Yes it is. Five colors to pick from. 4.5/5 stars after 200+ reviews. Full in person review from us can be found here.

#3. St. John’s Double Monk Strap – $ 249 ($ 395)

Wait. These are back? Is it just me or did the St John’s disappear for awhile? Up for the maximum discount during the Anniversary sale. Available in Black, walnut, and the dark chili shown here. Also shown at the top of the post. Full review of these things can be found right here.

#4. Fifth Ave. Cap Toe Oxford – $ 249 ($ 395)

Conservative, but the quarter-brogue style perforated cap toe spices it up a bit. Like, a little. One of their standards. Can’t go wrong here.

#5. Bartlett Cap Toe Oxford – $ 355 ($ 530)

Kinda like the Strand, only upgraded in all the right ways (not that the Strand is any sort of slouch.) From their top of the line Independence collection. Ultra premium leathers, two-tone soles, the works.

#6. Nomad Chukkas – $ 225 ($ 375)

Still made in Port Washington, still recraftable, still Goodyear Welted. But the “Nomad” collection is made with comfort in mind. Lightweight shock absorption, removable “lightform” insoles, etc.

#7. Kenilworth Blucher – $ 249 ($ 395)

The shoe-iest shoe to ever shoe. And while some might see that essential shoe-ness as boring, others see it as hugely versatile. Because they are. Review here.

#8. Nomad Bucks – $ 205 ($ 345)

Bucks are seaonsal. So not as versatile as the rest of the Anniversary Sale picks. But still, you’ll get plenty of wear out of em’ if you commit to living the buck yeah life.

#9. Cordovan Ave. Dress Belt – $ 185 ($ 219)

I don’t know who in their right mind spends $ 185 on a belt. Most of us don’t spend that on shoes. BUT. IF you are that person (and in a right frame of mind,) then this would be the belt I’d recommend.

#10. Dalton Wingtip Dress Boots – $ 310 ($ 445)

Out of season! But, around three bills for first quality Daltons isn’t half bad.

The Allen Edmonds Anniversary Sale runs clear through April 24th.

Scouted: These Two Portable Bluetooth Speakers Sync to Your Phone and Give You Stereo Surround Sound – And They’re On Sale Right Now for $70

As outdoor weather inches toward us, it’s time to remember where you left your portable Bluetooth speaker. And if you’re not immediately “Ah ha!”-ing right now, it might not be so memorable (or good). That’s a great reason to upgrade today to a pair of Anker’s Soundcore Flares — a pretty unique set of waterproof (yes, proof) portable Bluetooth speakers that are inexplicably on sale right now for $ 70.

The 31% discount is sizable considering the nearly 500 reviews and 4.5-star average rating the Flares have amassed. But then again: Their features are really cool. They will both sync (seamlessly) to your device and play in stereo — that is, one will act as the right speaker and the other as the left.  You can just pop them on and decide just how enveloped in surround sound you want your outdoor space — be it a patio, roof, backyard, park, beach, or personal jetty. Or you could just place them next to each other to achieve an enhanced volume. The speakers are waterproof (rated IPX7) and LEDs packed into their bases can react to the music in real time. You can actually customize multiple themes and light patterns using Anker’s Soundcore app.

If you want to level up your Bluetooth portable speaker game this spring, this is your chance to do so with a real discount on a top-rated product.

Stretch Retro Polos, Orient’s newest Dive Watch on Sale, & More – The Thurs. Men’s Sales Handful

Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend or a bit earlier. Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look. Those are what make up these handfuls. Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below, plus bonus sales if need be. Included are a few picks worth pointing out.

EXPRESS: 40% off Everything

Express

Heading into the warm weather season, EXPRESS seems to have, oddly enough, more than a few pieces inspired by classic (if not straight up retro) menswear. Avoid the logos kids. Stick with the unbranded stuff, as shown in the picks above. Those piped performance polos look darn near perfect. Efforting an in person soon. 40% off just about everything ends tomorrow, 3/29.

Massdrop: Orient Kamasu Automatic Dive Watch – $ 180 FINAL ($ 450)

Orient

Sometimes I wonder just what the hell is going on over at Massdrop. Continuity? The hell is that? Here, they’re insisting this is the “Mako III.” Which apparently it is very much not. It’s a new model called the Kamasu. Massdrop has also somehow mixed in some new “Kano” watches too (the ones without the triangle at 12 o’clock). Now, that said… hell of a price. Currently going for $ 100 more over at Orient if you want to buy direct. 41.8mm case diameter. Automatic movement of course. Day and date. Sapphire crystal. 200m water resistance. A pretty slick summertime (okay, year-round) companion. Estimated ship date is April 22nd.

Spier and Mackay: $ 10 off Dress Shirts, $ 35 – $ 55 ($ 45 – $ 65)

Spier & Mackay

No bundling required this time. No code. Just click and get a shirt in your cart and ten bucks should get knocked off. Good through this Saturday. Oxford cloth button downs (with awfully nice collars) are now $ 38 instead of the usual $ 48.

Club Monaco: 25% off $ 150+ w/ HELLOSPRING

Club Monaco

Looks like the exclusions are the same as they usually are: Just Birkenstock, Viberg, Woolrich, Zespa. So that means Filson and Allen Edmonds are a go? Same for their THREE HUNDRED DOLLAR cashmere hoodie? I know. I know. Silly. Still, wanted to include it just for kicks.

Gustin: Made in the USA Moleskin Field Jackets – $ 159

Gustin

Gustin’s Made in the USA field jackets are back, only this time they’re cranking them out in a super soft, velvety (but not shiny) moleskin cotton fabric. Since it’s Gustin, it’s pre-order, and these things don’t ship until June. Which… kinda stinks because by June, it’s gonna be way too damn hot (for most of us) to wear one of these. Maybe an early fall present to oneself? Available in Navy, Olive, and Black.

BONUS: Jomers American Milled 5-Pockets – $ 38

Jomers

These are NOT the Flint & Tinder 365 pants. They’re $ 60 less, 100% cotton (no 3% stretch here), and while the fabric is made in the USA, they’re made in the ambiguous land of “imported.” Just a slim fit here. No straight. So no, they aren’t the F&T, but they’re a lot less. And a lot of guys really like Jomers. Launched yesterday but they goofed and sent out the pricing as $ 58 in the original communications. Not so. They’re $ 38. Shipping is free, but you’re on the hook for returns.

BONUS II  Suitsupply: THEIR FRIGGIN’ CAPE IS BACK PEOPLE

I mean. It’s a velvet cape. Why they brought it back just in time for the warm weather, I have no idea. But still, cape on if you’re pro-cape. Huge thanks to Brandon D. for sending in the tip here.

The best values in menswear get even better. But it really does feel like an end of season clearance (probably because it is). Lots of cool to cold weather fabrics. Sizes are really scattered. So get ready to hunt and peck a little bit.

Massdrop: Folding Ray-Ban Clubmasters – $ 89.99 ($ 225)

Rayban Clubmasters

So maybe ketchup and mustard Persols weren’t your thing. Fair enough. So perhaps something more classic? Folding Clubmasters this time around, still from Massdrop. Prescription ready too, in case you want to swap in some Rx lenses in the frames. Final sale of course, being that it’s Massdrop. Estimated ship date is April 16. UPDATE: Dang it! These are no longer available. I’m thinking it was because enough people got on board? Hope you got a pair if you were interested.

Timex: 20% off Select Watches w/ VIP20

Timex

Getting a Timex direct through Timex.com doesn’t always net you the best price. In fact, if it’s a pretty common model? Amazon will almost always have them beat on price. But this VIP sale has got some not-so-common watches up for the 20% discount, including some kinda-rare Waterbury as well as Todd Snyder models. Code expires Monday 3/25.

Huckberry: Restocks of USA Made Flint & Tinder 365 Pants – $ 98

Flint & Tinder Pants

Cheap? Nope. But made in the USA from 97% cotton and 3% lycra, they look good, feel great, and now come in both a slim AND a straight fit. (Straight fit! Rejoice squat rack fans!) Also, no hemming (for most of us) required anymore. They now come in inseams of 30, 32, and 34. Full review coming soon. Seven, count ’em SEVEN different colors to pick from.

Brooks Brothers: The Wardrobe Event starts Friday 3/22

Brooks Brothers

Doesn’t start until tomorrow, but still worth a mention. While the construction often takes place in the fuzzy, not very specific land of “imported,” they’re built well, and the Italian fabrics they make them out of are top notch. A splurge for most of us, but they wear well and hold up great.

BONUS  BR Rapid Movement Denim = 30% off

Now $ 82 instead of the usual $ 118. Still an investment, and they were going for less during the recent exclusion-free F&F sale, but they get excluded all the time from other promos and codes. So, still worth a mention.

Chester Mox Starts Anniversary Sale

It’s easy to get affordable basics from Uniqlo for under $ 100, and even easier to get fast-fashion takes on the latest trends for less. But while the bottom of the market is spiraling downwards, the cost of luxury goods continues to rise with no end in sight. In recent years, the cost of luxury fashion products has grown at twice the rate of inflation, with men’s clothing and accessories leading the way. There was a time when Common Projects Achilles were about $ 250; today they’re north of $ 400. Even traditional clothiers aren’t immune. In 2010, J. Press retailed their Shaggy Dog sweaters for $ 165. Today? $ 245.

This bifurcation is just one of the many reasons why I love Chester Mox, a Los Angeles-based leather goods company that I often write about here at Put This On. They’re one of the few companies that still offers Old World craftsmanship at reasonably affordable prices. A few years ago, I called a New York City menswear shop about commissioning a custom leather wallet. My quoted price? A whopping $ 1,500 (“Yea, I admit that’s absurd” the salesperson sheepishly admitted to me). Chester Mox’s price for the same design ended up being about 75% less, which is lower than what that store pays in wholesale to their European supplier.

For the next week, Chester Mox’s prices are little lower still. They’re holding their four-year anniversary sale, where you can take 25% off any order with the checkout code ANNIVERSARY. The code excludes bespoke, but since everything they sell is made-to-order, you can get simple customizations such as choosing your own threads and leathers, picking out the colors, and getting a hot-stamped monogram (should you wish). The promotion ends on Tuesday, March 19th.

The thing that makes Chester Mox special is their constriction. At the moment, luxury e-tailer Mr. Porter has no fewer than 120 leather wallets at their store — more if you count larger leather goods. Most of those wallets retail for about $ 350, with some reaching as high as $ 1,470. For luxury brands such as Dior and Saint Laurent, leather goods are often high-margin items used to make up for the company’s loss leaders. Haute couture, for example, is dearly expensive, with dresses selling for tens of thousands of dollars. But given the time and labor needed to create such items, those pieces don’t actually make that much in terms of profit (there aren’t many customers for such things anyway).

Instead, things such as couture and special runway pieces are typically produced to give the brand a halo — they confer prestige, generate press, and allow devoted fans to dream of one day owning such items. Where the company actually earns their money is in the mountains of expensive, but relatively affordable accessories they move every year — plastic sunglasses, synthetic perfumes, and leather goods. The quality of those leather goods is often fine, but not remarkable. The construction is almost always machine-sewn and the leather, while decent, is commonly corrected grain (e.g. pebble grain, which is a technically a type of corrected leather).

Chester Mox’s products are all handmade using traditional tools — an awl, a needle, and some thread. They’re produced in Los Angeles, but are often cheaper than designer leather goods. A few years ago, Bellanie apprenticed under a former Hermes craftsperson. There, she learned how to make leather goods using an old European method: saddle stitching, which is what you’d find on most Hermes products. Today, she saddle stitches everything by hand and sources full-grain leathers from top-end tanneries. Among their inventory, they have Horween’s lustrous shell cordovan, smooth calfskins from the Hermes’ owned Tanneries du Puy, unfinished Barenia leather (which Hermes uses for their bag handles, and will patina in the same way), and some of the best exotics I’ve seen around.

Technically, saddle stitching results in a stronger seam, which is why you see it in high-end saddlery and European luggage. Whereas a machine-sewn seam can unravel if just one stitch breaks, a saddle-sewn one requires a special tool to pick apart. But, realistically, unless you’re stuffing your wallet like George Costanza, I find saddle-sewn products to be more about a look. In the photo above, you can see a tan RRL eyewear case (on the left) compared against a Chester Mox Barenia card case (on the right). The RRL case is machine sewn with a straight stitching pattern, where each line follows the next (like so: ——–). The Chester Mox card case, by contrast, is handsewn with tighter stitching and no visible holes. It also has a slightly slanted stitching pattern (like this: /////). The stitching looks a little better, to my eye, and carries a bit of Old World craft charm. Those card cases start as low as $ 60, or $ 45 with the checkout code.

Chester Mox is a small, family-owned business run by a husband-and-wife team (Bellanie and Brandon). Since everything is made upon order, it’s easy to switch things out. If you see a leather you like on their Instagram, but don’t see it offered for a particular design, just contact them. Some of my favorite things include their Dogleg card cases, alligator belts (get them in a color that matches your shoes), and a modernized coat wallet I designed last year (ideal for use with tailored clothing, I think). Ian at From Squalor to Baller also recently posted photos of how his compact bi-fold has aged over the years.

Nordstrom Winter Sale 2019 Picks for Men

Nordstrom Winter Sale 2/15 – 2/24

Is Nordstrom slowly starting to increase the number of sale events that they run? They don’t run many. The big Anniversary Sale pre-fall, a couple of half-yearly sales, and that used to be it. But this “winter sale” has seen the sale section swell from under 2000 items to almost 4000. So, that’s something. Especially when everything ships for free. Sure, it’s not as amazing as the aforementioned Anniversary or Half-yearly events, but it’s still worth a look. We scrolled through all those pages so you don’t have to.

Jack Erwin ” Joe” Cap Toe Oxford – $ 130.65 ($ 195)

Jack Erwin " Joe" Cap Toe Oxford

Looks like a few Jack Erwin models are included in this sale. These are their basic, made in Spain, blake stitch, cap toe oxfords. A fair price at $ 195, and a nifty deal at $ 131. Full review here.

Norstrom Long Sleeve Polo – $ 35.70 ($ 59.50)

Norstrom Long Sleeve Polo

Basic, but Nordstrom’s house brand stuff usually punches above it’s weight. All cotton. Would look great under a knit sportcoat.

L.B.M 1911 Classic Fit Stretch Cotton Sport Coat – $ 416.98 ($ 695)

L.B.M 1911 Classic Fit Stretch Cotton Sport Coat

Meanwhile, on the other end of the price spectrum compared to those long sleeve polos… that’s a LOT of cash for a cotton sportcoat. But some guys swear by LBM 1911 and their offerings. I’m not one of them, personally, but I’m just some dope on the internet. 98% cotton and 2% stretch. Made in Italy.

1901 Made in Italy Wool or Wool/Cashmere Sportcoat – $ 209.40 ($ 349)

1901 Sportcoats

That’s more like it. Unconstructed, also made in Italy, and a HELL of a lot less expensive when compared to those LBM jackets. Oh, and these 1901 options are wool or wool/cashmere to boot. You can keep the cotton.

Robert Talbott Goodyear Welted Double Monks – $ 197.65 ($ 295)

Robert Talbott Goodyear Welted Double Monks

I don’t know where they’re made (all it says is “imported”) but Goodyear welted double monks in a do-anything shade of timeless brown? With a medallion at the toe too? Not bad. Especially since you can get them in your hands, and on your feet, and return them in case they don’t work out (just try them out on carpet to keep the soles pristine and returnable).

Barbour Flyweight Chelsea Quilted Jacket – $ 137.40 ($ 229)

Barbour Flyweight Chelsea Quilted Jacket

Not a bad price for a piece of heritage British designed outerwear. Just seeing the gray color for now?

Made in Italy GREATS Royale Sneaker – $ 119.93 ($ 179)

Made in Italy GREATS Royale Sneaker

White leather, gum sole. Not bad for made in Italy too. Extremely well reviewed. Word is they run large so order the next size down?

Red Wing Unlined Leather Gloves – $ 55.24–$ 64.24 ($ 84.99)

Red Wing Unlined Leather Gloves

Deerskin, made in the USA, and two colors to pick from. Lots to like for a casual glove.

Barbour Lutz Quilted Jacket – $ 161.40 ($ 269)

Barbour Lutz Quilted Jacket

Gets a lot of things right. Diamond quilting. Belted collar. Couple of colors to pick from.

Jack Erwin Adam Wingtip – $ 130.65 ($ 195)

Jack Erwin Adam Wingtip

More Spanish made, sleek, Blake stitch goodness. A little more modern looking than most other wingtips. True oxford lacing here.

adidas originals Beckenbauer Track Jacket – $ 47.98 ($ 80)

adidas originals Beckenbauer Track Jacket

Perfect for getting back and forth to the gym. And the fact that the pockets zip close is key. Why? Because track jackets almost always have pretty slick fabric. And if you’ve had something slide out of your pockets to/from the gym in the past (keys/wallet/earbuds), you know it’s a disaster waiting to happen. Fabric makeup is 52% cotton, 48% recycled polyester.

MVMT Forty Series “Black Silver” Watch – $ 71.98 ($ 120)

MVMT Forty Series “Black Silver” Watch

Nothing wild here. Simplicity and affordability. Also one of the five favorites from The Blue Stones. Here’s Tarek’s take on it: It’s just as wearable with a suit as it is with a T-shirt and jeans. Freaky, right?

Thomas and Vine Plain Toe Derby – $ 66.95 ($ 99.95)

Thomas and Vine Plain Toe Derby

A little funky (look at that lighter blue accents on the brown pair) but perhaps that’s what you’re going for at sixty seven dollars. Five different colors to pick from.

Golden Bear Waxed Cotton Car Coat – $ 399.90 ($ 650)

Golden Bear Waxed Cotton Car Coat

Cheap? Nope. Is it a timeless classic that’s made in the USA from waxed cotton? Yes. Yes it is.

Jack Erwin Hubert Longwing Derby – $ 97.49 – $ 130.65 ($ 195)

Jack Erwin Hubert Longwing Derby

Goodyear welted and made in Spain. Not bad for $ 100 – $ 130. Brown will run you $ 130. Black is half off and just under $ 100.

The North Face Campshire Fleece Vest – $ 59.40 ($ 99)

The North Face Campshire Fleece Vest

I woulda killed for one of these in 1997. Now? They prove that fashion certainly is cyclical. And I have to admit… that off white option is giving off some pretty cool retro vibes.

1901 Richland Buck Shoe – $ 54.98–$ 73.70 ($ 110)

1901 Richland Buck Shoe

Bucks that aren’t clunky like traditional bucks. Studded rubber soles too. So, bucks that aren’t just for summertime? Price depends on which of the three colors you’re after.

adidas Tiro Soccer Training Pants – $ 32.98 ($ 45)

adidas Tiro Soccer Training Pants

Because sometimes you need some new pants to get back and forth to the gym in.

John W. Nordstrom Classic Fit Plaid Wool Sport Coat – $ 299.40 ($ 499)

John W. Nordstrom Classic Fit Plaid Wool Sport Coat

Made in Italy, 100% wool, and just partially lined.

1901 Bremerton Wingtip – $ 87.10 ($ 130)

1901 Bremerton Wingtip

From one of their younger leaning house brands. A basic wingtip blucher, which leans more casual than an oxford, but sleeker than your Dad’s or Grandpa’s wingers.

The Rail Fleece Jacket – $ 59.70 ($ 99.50)

The Rail Fleece Jacket

My Grandmother had this exact same toilet lid cover.

This Nordstrom Winter Sale is scheduled to run clear through the 24th. Not sure what happens then… if these items go back to a full price, some get marked down further, prices stay the same, or it’s a combination of all three.

BEST DEAL UPDATE:

Quick Picks: J. Press Winter Sale

J. Press: Up to 60% off Winter Sale (anything over 25% off = Final Sale)

J. Press is not known to everyone. They are traditional, preppy, sometimes expensive, and haven’t saturated the web quite like bigger brands and retailers. Some people love em’. Some people think they’re classic to the point of being old and dusty.

Doesn’t mean this sale isn’t worth covering.

Anything over 25% off is final sale. No returns. So be careful. Also know that navigating their site is kinda a pain. To find all items on sale, you’ll have to scout through each category one at a time. Seems like their “sale” links aren’t showing the full inventory of markdowns. Big thanks to Ben M. for sending in the tip and feedback on individual items for this one!

Loake Suede Monk Straps in Brown or Navy – $ 221.25 ($ 295)

A nice little surprise, especially with winter (hopefully) coming to a close in the next month or two. Right at 25% off so I think you can return them? Made in England and sized in UK sizes. Most suggest going down half a size from your US size. See Loake’s conversion chart here.

Loake Chelsea boots in brown or black – $ 206.25 ($ 275)

Also right at 25% off, so, I believe these can be returned. Also sized in UK Sizes, so, do that conversion. No idea what’s going on with their graphics as shown above. That “blip” on each boot, towards the top of the shaft? Beats me. A glitch in the Matrix?

Barbour Flyweight Chelsea – $ 137.40 FINAL ($ 229) or Lowerdale Vest – $ 107.40 FINAL ($ 179)

Couple of transitional weather pieces of classic British designed outerwear. More than a couple of colors to pick from. Really liking that lighter blue. Didn’t even know they made one in that shade.

Made in the USA Navy Gingham Classic Fit Button Down – $ 81 FINAL ($ 135)

Not J. Crew Factory pricing. And that’s understandable. Made in the USA. Check out the substantial collar. Classic fit here.

Made in Scotland Merino Shawl Collar Sweaters – $ 110 FINAL ($ 275)

Big thanks again to Ben M. for the tip and feedback here. He bought the gray option, said it’s a nice, substantial, warm sweater, but note that the tags say the sweaters are actually made in Ireland. Not Scotland. And I’m pretty sure the Scots and the Irish are tired of people confusing the two.

Made in Scotland Shetland Fair Isle Sweaters – $ 104 FINAL ($ 260)

The real deal and not some cheap imitation. Final sale though.

Shinola Assembled in the USA Runwell in Black/Blue or Orange/Cream – $ 330 FINAL ($ 575)

Yes they’re quartz. Yes, some watch snobs turn their noses up at the idea of Shinola. But they’re assembled in Detroit, and some people love the updated vintage aesthetic that Shinola goes after. And the brand just doesn’t go on sale anywhere all that often.

Made in the USA Silk Bulldog or Skull & Bones Tie – $ 47.40 FINAL ($ 79)

So preppy it hurts. Anyone for a game of squash? Anywho, made in the USA and 3.25″ wide. Lots of other ties are on sale too.

Merino Wool Cardigan Vest in Navy or Charcoal – $ 74 FINAL ($ 185)

For awhile there I was convinced that I was gonna become a Social Studies teacher. That dream died quick once I realized I couldn’t stay awake after reading more than 50 pages of anything. Phone book, Harry Potter*, War & Peace, whatever. So yeah. Had to pivot.

Wool Blend Ivy Cap in Olive – $ 66 FINAL or Grey Multi Pane – $ 58.80 FINAL ($ 98 – $ 110)

In case you’ve reached the age where you can wear hats un-ironically. Or maybe you just really like Peaky Blinders. Or you just can’t help but break into “Seize the Day” every once in awhile.

*I’ve never read a word of Harry Potter. Don’t know how it hasn’t happened, but it just hasn’t. Yet, every time I walk into the room and Mrs. Dappered has the TV on, Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings is playing.

Tuesday Sales Tripod – Extra 25% off Brooks Brothers Sale, English Made shoes, & More

The Thursday Handfuls are great, but what if Monday (or Tuesday) rolls around and there are a few sales that can’t wait til the weekend? You’ll find three of the best, with a few picks from each, to start the week below.

#1. Brooks Brothers: Extra 25% off Clearance Items

Brooks Brothers

Hot dog, it’s sportcoat-huntin’ season. Couple of knit options up there, but some standard wool hopsacks as well. Of course, there’s plenty more to the Brooks Brothers sale section, but sportcoats that are on sale, and then get another cut are always a solid bet from BB.

#2. Massdrop: Made in the UK Loake Cap Toes – $ 224.99 FINAL ($ 360)

Made in the UK Loake Cap Toes

Goodyear welted, Made in the UK, and your choice of either a smooth leather sole, or a studded dainite sole for grip. At checkout, it’s your choice between black shoes with leather or Dainite soles, the dark brown shoes with leather or Dainite soles, or the mahogany shoes with leather soles. It IS UK sizing though. So, most are gonna wanna size down a full size. Just be careful with that.

#3. Banana Republic: Extra 50% off Sale Items + 40% off no BR Merch Exclusions

Banana Republic

Still going strong. Holy cow there’s a lot in there. Welcome to end of season winter clearance. Items are coming and going. Big fan of that Motion-Stretch cotton blend blazer, and the leather laptop sleeves are pretty nice too. Sizes are scattered, but picks above had at least a decent size selection at post time.

BONUS  Allen Edmonds: Extra 30% off Factory 2nds

Allen Edmonds

These aren’t without risk. Hardly. In fact, it’s a gamble. $ 25 restocking fee on any returns through the mail. And it’s a little concerning that AE is now saying that after this extra 30% off deal, Factory 2nds will only be available for limited times moving forward? The hell does that mean? That just plays into the #narrative that the #menswear internet community (by the way I hate hashtags but I’m using them as descriptors here) is pushing that overall quality by AE is dropping. So no more 2nds / Shoebank open at all times? Does that mean they’re loosening standards on what makes a first quality shoe? Whether that’s true or not seems to be less relevant than ever. If they don’t think customers who pay any attention aren’t asking that question, they’re seriously underestimating the chatter that goes on around them.

Also worth a mention…

  • J. Crew: Extra 60% off sale (almost all final sale?) w/ GOFORIT
  • EXPRESS: Extra 50% off clearance.
  • Club Monaco: Extra 40% off sale items.
  • Lands’ End: 50% off one full price item w/ SCARF and 8794
  • Ledbury: Extra 40% off Sale items w/ FINAL40

John Varvatos Business on a Growth Path as Sale Rumors Silence

NEW YORK — In 2020, John Varvatos will mark a major milestone — the 20th anniversary of showing his first men’s wear collection.
Like any fashion label, Varvatos has experienced his share of ups and downs over the past two decades — ownership changes, painful reductions in staff, department store consolidation and changing shifts in fashion.
But after a couple of years of flux, the John Varvatos business is once again in expansion mode. The brand just entered the Middle East with its first retail store in Dubai and there are others in the wings. New product categories such as accessories, jewelry and swimwear are being added.
Star USA, the more-casual, younger and lower-priced line, has been completely revamped and will be unveiled at the Pitti Uomo show in Florence in January.
The architect steering these changes is Mark Brashear, who joined John Varvatos Enterprises as chief executive officer three years ago. Brashear has a long history in the men’s industry that includes Nordstrom, Façonnable, Hugo Boss and Michael Kors.
He’s also seen as a straight shooter and, as such, doesn’t duck questions regarding the uncertainty that surrounded the brand just two years ago when rumors were rampant that its majority owner, the private equity group, Lion

So Many Supra Sneakers Are on Sale at Zappos

Keeping up with the ever-changing fashion trends can be exhausting, but the one style we never have trouble following is athleisure. We adore any trend that lets Us stock up on clothes that are comfortable and stylish all at once. Naturally, we can never own enough leggings, sweatsuits and sneakers. Lucky for our wardrobes, Zappos has a slew of Supra sneakers marked down and our favorite of the bunch is the Supra Scissor.

The shoe comes in three color options and is designed for running, skating and of course, street style. The Supra Scissor features a padded mesh lining, breathable mesh on its upper portion and a sole made of ultra-soft SUPRAFOAM for heel protection and overall comfort. The SUPRAFOAM sole also includes black traction pads meant to prevent slipping. An overall lightweight feel makes the sneaker a practical choice for easy movement.

See it: Scoop up the black and gold Supra Scissor Sneakers (marked down to 30 percent off their original $ 80 price, now $ 56) while so many sizes are still in stock on the Zappos site. Additional colors available at varying prices. Prefer another sneaker style? Check out more Supra sneakers on sale.

Sizes range from 5 to 10 with half sizes included.

The Supra Scissor Sneaker is clearly designed for physical activity. Still, we adore how perfect the shoe is for our casual daytime looks thanks to a multi-texture style and neutral colors for easy mixing and matching. Our favorite version is the black, gold and white version featuring black knit fabric on the top, soft leather details and a white sole.

We’ll be easily pairing these sneakers with a mix of chic tracksuits, leggings, T-shirts, skinny jeans and joggers. The black, gold and white Supra Scissor sneakers will look great paired with an all-white or all-black Adidas tracksuit. We could also slip into black leggings with stylish mesh inserts, a racerback tank and a white, black and gold windbreaker to perfectly match the sneakers. The shoes are even sleek enough to wear with a snug-fitting knit maxidress topped by a moto-style leather jacket.

On days when we prefer a soft pastel hue, the Supra Scissor shoes look beautiful in the Pearl Blue and white style.

See it: Scoop up the blue and white Supra Scissor Sneakers (marked down to 19 percent off their original $ 80 price, now $ 65) while so many sizes are still in stock on the Zappos site. Additional colors available at varying prices. Prefer another sneaker style? Check out more Supra sneakers on sale.

We’ll be styling these sneakers with a matching pastel blue velour sweatsuit for a chic monochrome moment. The blue sneakers will also make for a great color blocked addition to a pair of pastel pink joggers and a simple long sleeve white T-shirt. On a day more suited for denim, the blue sneaker will match well with a pair of high-waist skinny jeans in a light blue wash and a cropped sweater in beige or pastel pink.

To add a classic print to our sneaker collections, we can snag the Supra Scissor Sneaker in this dark grey and white sneaker featuring polka dot and triangle prints. These shoes have a playful look to them without appearing to gaudy.

See it: Scoop up the polka dot Supra Scissor Sneakers for $ 80 while so many sizes are still in stock on the Zappos site. Additional colors available at varying sale prices. Prefer another sneaker style? Check out more Supra sneakers on sale.

These printed sneakers will offer an extra touch of flair to any matching grey jogger set. We could also match these shoes with a grey and white polka dot sweater, dark blue skinny jeans and a leather mini bucket bag. On days when we prefer to wear the sneakers to the gym, we’ll be styling them with our favorite glittery leggings. We could also wear the sneakers with those same glitter leggings and an embellished sweater for a night out.

All three of the sneaker styles would also look great worn with more casual jumpsuits in the trendy utility style or designed with knit material. To layer the look for chillier weather, we can slip into a fuzzy teddy bear coat in beige or tan.

Shoppers who bought and wore the Supra Scissor Sneakers rave about how gorgeous they look. While Zappos labels these sneakers true to size, the shoe runs narrow per the reviews. It’s important to eye the size guide carefully and order one size up if necessary to score the best fit.

Selfridges Notches More Than 4 Million Pounds in Early Hours of Boxing Day Sale

LONDON — Footfall may have been down on Boxing Day, which marks the start of the winter sales in Britain, but for Selfridges, the pickings were rich.
The store, known for its bright yellow branding, said following a strong pre-Christmas trading period, it took in more than 4 million pounds in the first hours of the Boxing Day sale, which began Tuesday night online and Wednesday morning in-store.
Selfridges said it has already seen a 6 percent uplift on last year, and added that Boxing Day 2018 is on track to remain the retailer’s biggest trading day of the year. Selfridges doesn’t close until 9 p.m. local time, so final numbers are still unavailable.
The company said shoppers began arriving outside the Oxford Street store at 2:30 a.m. on Boxing Day, the day after Christmas, when estate owners and employers in Britain traditionally gave gifts to their employees. The store said it expected to see around 120,000 customers between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
Selfridges.com has seen the highest number of site visits to date, with 1.5 million customers visiting the site since Tuesday night, with “high double-digit growth” online compared with last year, it said.

Amazon just announced its best-selling tech gifts of the holidays – and they’re all still on sale

Amazon Holiday Best Sellers List

Amazon on Wednesday announced that this past holiday shopping season was its most successful season ever, with more items ordered worldwide than ever before. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise considering how good the deals were this year across all of the most popular categories on Amazon’s site. Amazon didn’t share any specific numbers as far as sales go, and that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise since the company never shares specific sales volumes. It did announce some of its best-selling products across various categories though, and we’ve got some awesome news: Amazon’s best-selling products from this past holiday shopping season are still on sale right now.

Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale Picks for Men

Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale Winter 2018-19

There are seasonal clearance sales, and then there are seasonal clearance sales. This is the latter. This is one that you probably don’t want to brush aside. It’s not just any other clearance. It’s Nordstrom, and for whatever reason, they continue to do just about everything right, while the rest of the department store retail world seems to get it wrong.

Great in-house brands. Terrific 3rd party stuff. Deep cuts, usually reasonable size selections, and as always, everything ships and returns for free. Their sale section is easy to browse too… it’s just… enormous. So if you don’t feel like scrolling, and scrolling, and scrolling… you’ll find a selection below of what we’ve deemed to be the best of the best. But if we’ve missed something in this massive half-yearly sale that deserves a mention? Shoot an email to joe@dappered.com. Okay. Off we go.

Made in Italy Good Man Brand Legend Sneakers – $ 132.66 ($ 198)

Good Man Brand Legend Sneakers

Cleaner than the Board of Health. Both are pebbled leather (which is a little tough to see on a screen when it comes to the white option), and both are made in Italy. Also available in black, which is pretty close to sold out at post time. Head here for a review of the smooth leather/blue heeled version, which sadly isn’t included in this sale.

Nordstrom Cashmere V-Neck Sweater – $ 98.90 ($ 145)

Nordstrom Cashmere V-Neck Sweater

Not cheap since it’s cashmere, but, under $ 100 isn’t half bad for a good cashmere sweater. Tons of colors to pick from too. Also available in a crew neck if that’s what you’re after (more crewneck cashmere colors can be found here… not sure why they’re in different spots).

1901 Auburn Chukka Boot – $ 73.90 ($ 124.95)

1901 Auburn Chukka Boot

Looks like a smooth leather version of their highly appreciated 1901 suede chukka. Different sole on these (no studs) but still some traction.

Barbour Lightweight Ashby Wax Jacket – $ 239.40 ($ 399)

Barbour Lightweight Ashby Wax Jacket

A hefty discount on heritage British sportswear. Lightweight here, but still waxed. Corduroy collar.

Wolverine 1000 Mile Wedge Boot – $ 254.98 ($ 425)

Wolverine 1000 Mile Wedge Boot

Well all right then. Was going for $ 280 during the big Anniversary Sale back in July, then went back to full price. Now? 40% off. Horween leather here helps too. Made in the USA. Sizes are already starting to go quick.

Nordstrom Smartcare Trim Fit Solid Dress Shirt – $ 29.90 ($ 49.50)

Nordstrom Smartcare Trim Fit Solid Dress Shirt

Why do you guys always recommend Nordstrom dress shirts? Look, don’t take our word for it. After 160+ reviews, these are still almost 5/5 stars. That’s hard to do these days on the interwebz. Also available with a button down collar if that’s what you’re after.

Allen Edmonds Hearst Cap Toe Boot – $ 249.90 ($ 395)

Allen Edmonds Hearst Cap Toe Boot

Who? Hearst? Is this a Nordstrom exclusive? Made in Port Washington. Cap toe. Ankle high, but not a true chukka. Dainite studded rubber sole for traction.

Made in Italy 1901 Extra Trim Fit Wool & Silk Sport Coat – $ 149.49 ($ 299)

Made in Italy 1901 Extra Trim Fit Wool & Silk Sport Coat

Not bad at all for made in Italy. $ 150? For real? Sure. Exterior is a blend of wool and silk from the Zignone mill. Just butterfly lined in the back. A true slim fit here.

Cole Haan ‘Colton’ Chukka Boot – $ 124.98 ($ 250)

Cole Haan 'Colton' Chukka Boot

Very, very well reviewed. Storm welt. Blue panels at the top and grip on the sole. A Nordstrom exclusive. Now half off.

1901 Extra Trim Fit Wool/Cotton Sportcoat – $ 149.49 ($ 299)

1901 Extra Trim Fit Wool/Cotton Sportcoat

Another oddly inexpensive, made in Italy sportcoat. Wool/Cotton blend from Marzotto.

Calibrate Trim Fit Stretch Solid Dress Shirt – $ 31.80 – $ 46.90 ($ 79.50)

Calibrate Trim Fit Stretch Solid Dress Shirt

Not quite sure why there’s two different price points (the white is the cheaper $ 32 option), but not bad for a ships and returns for free stretch dress shirt. 96% cotton and 4% spandex.

John W. Nordstrom Fiore Medallion Toe Derby – $ 97.49 ($ 195)

John W. Nordstrom Fiore Medallion Toe Derby

Not an oxford, but an open laced derby. Still, the sleekness and that dress medallion should make them suit worthy. Made in Italy too.

Nordstrom 100% Cashmere Scarves – $ 49.75 ($ 99.50) and/or Hats – $ 34.75 ($ 69.50)

Nordstrom cashmere

What’s an after Christmas clearance event without a bunch of cashmere scarves and hats? And since it’s Nordstrom, you can count on the cashmere they selected to be of good quality, especially for these reasonable prices.

Goodman Brand Soft Cotton Sportcoats in Gray or Blue – $ 178.80 ($ 298)

Goodman Brand Soft Cotton Sportcoats

Obviously these are more than a bit on the “chopped” side, and despite that, I still love them. I wear mine (a wool/cotton number) more like a cardigan, often with henleys and t-shirts and sneakers. All cotton here.

Polo RL Mixed Media Gloves in Deerskin – $ 40.80 ($ 68) or Quilted Leather – $ 46.80 ($ 78)

Ralph Lauren Gloves

Winter just technically started, so, lots of opportunity left to wear these things. Touch screen compatible too.

Bonobos Jetsetter Slim Fit Unconstructed Blazer – $ 224.98 ($ 450)

Bonobos Jetsetter Slim Fit Unconstructed Blazer

Totally unlined in the back. 97% wool and 3% poly. Half off, and unlike Bonobos when it gets to half off, this isn’t final sale. You can very much return it.

Calibrate Solid Merino Wool Blend Socks – $ 7.49 ($ 12.50)

Calibrate Solid Merino Wool Blend Socks

I don’t have any experience with these socks, but Calibrate is still a Nordstrom house brand. Mid-calf length. And merino wool blend for dress socks is a must around these parts.

Good Man Brand Slim Fit Merino Wool Track Jacket – $ 136.80 ($ 228)

Good Man Brand Slim Fit Merino Wool Track Jacket

Yes please. A nice mix of modern style with heritage materials. 100% merino wool.

J. Crew Ludlow Trim Fit Solid Wool Blazer – $ 212.49 ($ 425)

J. Crew Ludlow Trim Fit Solid Wool Blazer

Well this is confusing. The description clearly states that it’s super 120s Loro Piana Italian wool (and the shot of the inside of the jacket shows the corresponding label). But J. Crew’s legacy blazers have been made with American wool for a while now? Or is this a suit jacket? Beats me.

The Rail Carlin Work Boot – $ 71.98 ($ 120)

The Rail Carlin Work Boot

From one of Nordstrom’s in-house brands. Red Wing looks without the steep price.

John W. Nordstrom 80% wool / 20% Cashmere Overcoat – $ 299.49 ($ 599)

John W. Nordstrom 80% wool / 20% Cashmere Overcoat

A basic, but being that it’s not just Nordstrom, but their upgraded John W. line, you can be pretty assured that it’ll be a well executed basic. And 20% cashmere is nothing to sneeze at. Sizes are starting to get a bit short.

Norstrom Signature Trim Fit Plaid Wool Sport Coat – $ 359.40 ($ 599)

Norstrom Signature Trim Fit Plaid Wool Sport Coat

Made in Italy. Should do well with jeans. Really like that it’s just butterfly lined in the back. Trim fit too. Get yer professorial-look on.

Ted Baker Merman Faux Leather Briefcase – $ 77.40 ($ 129)

Ted Baker Merman Faux Leather Briefcase

Faux leather, but that stripe is pretty slick and the price sure is right… assuming it doesn’t look or feel super plastic in person.

Nordstrom 100% Cashmere Scarfs in Gray or Blue Windowpane – $ 49.75 ($ 99.50)

Nordstrom 100% Cashmere Scarfs

In case you need something to go with that new topcoat.

1901 Made in Italy Extra Trim Fit Wool Blend Sport Coat – $ 179.49 ($ 349)

1901 Made in Italy Extra Trim Fit Wool Blend Sport Coat

Fabric is 94% wool and 6% poly. Considered a true trim fit, and it looks like the tails might be on the shorter side? Another pretty good price for being made in Italy.

John W. Nordstrom Double Monks – $ 92.49 ($ 185)

John W. Nordstrom Double Monks

More sub $ 100 Italian shoes. Speaking of oddly affordable made in Italy goods… I’m guessing these are blake stitched? Plain toe here. Not bad if you’re in the market for a pair of double monks.

Vintage 1946 Cotton/Poly Henleys – $ 29.75 ($ 59.50)

Vintage 1946 Cotton/Poly Henleys

Mainly cotton with some poly in there for softness and stretch. Lots of colors and even some stripes or rib knit to pick from.

1901 Stevens Waterproof Chukka Boot – $ 78.90 ($ 124.95)

1901 Stevens Waterproof Chukka Boot

One of the quiet gems of the sale. Claims to be waterproof, and, oddly enough, they’re made in Italy. Just one review and they say it’s a little more gray than brown in person. Which isn’t a problem for many of us.

John W. Nordstrom Plaid Wool Sport Coat – $ 249.49 ($ 499)

John W. Nordstrom Plaid Wool Sport Coat

From their higher end John W. Nordstrom line. Plaid has a bit of a cold weather look to it, but I can see it being worn in the spring. Made in Mexico.

Selected Homme Colorblock Sneaker – $ 80.98 ($ 135)

Selected Homme Colorblock Sneaker

Not bad for a made in Portugal leather and suede sneaker… that also ships and returns for free.

Tumi Alpha Bravo Aviano Slim Briefcase – $ 300 ($ 375)

Tumi Alpha Bravo Aviano Slim Briefcase

Super sleek and modern but still highly functional. Ballistic nylon and leather. Easily slips over the handle of a rolling suitcase.

Calibrate Modern Trim Fit Car Coat – $ 149.49 ($ 299)

Calibrate Modern Trim Fit Car Coat

From their younger leaning Calibrate brand. So expect it to be a true trim fit made specifically for the slimmer fellas.

Cole Haan Wool GrandPro Tennis Sneaker – $ 64.98 ($ 130)

Cole Haan Wool GrandPro Tennis Sneaker

A combination of old school and new school materials.

Nordstrom Merino Wool Polo Sweater – $ 42.49 ($ 85)

Nordstrom Merino Wool Polo Sweater

The humble polo with long sleeves, and… made in merino! 100% fine merino wool knit. That’s huge. Much more comfortable and breathable compared to cotton which will stick and grab to your skin and soak up any perspiration and hold onto it.

Nordstrom V-Neck Merino Sweaters – $ 39.75 ($ 79.50)

Nordstrom V-Neck Merino Sweaters

And now basic v necks. Seven colors to pick from. After almost 50 reviews, they’re still almost 100% five out of five stars.

Nordstrom Signature Trim Fit Windowpane Wool Sport Coat – $ 359.40 ($ 599)

Nordstrom Signature Trim Fit Windowpane Wool Sport Coat

More made in Italy sportcoats. More of a windowpane forward pattern here. Still trim fit.

Allen Edmonds Renton Chukka Boots – $ 236.98 ($ 395)

Allen Edmonds Renton Chukka Boots

Are these a Nordstrom Exclusive? Seems pretty similar to plain chukkas from AE’s past, but these have that broguing around the heel as well as a studded Dainite sole, standard. Made in the USA and Goodyear welted.

Cole Haan Diamond Quilted Jacket – $ 150 ($ 300)

Cole Haan Diamond Quilted Jacket

Heritage British Sportswear looks… without the mega steep price that usually goes with those brands. Also available in olive.

Nordstrom Cashmere Waffle Knit Crew – $ 124.90 ($ 179)

Nordstrom Cashmere Waffle Knit Crew

An investment, but check out that texture. 100% cashmere too. And Nordstrom just doesn’t cut corners with their in-house branded stuff.

Nordstrom Signature Addison Windowpane Wool Blend Overcoat – $ 479.40 ($ 799)

Nordstrom Signature Addison Windowpane Wool Blend Overcoat

An investment… but that windowpane pattern is something else. Made in Italy too.

Wolverine 1000 Mile Plain Toe Boot in Charcoal – $ 218.98 ($ 365)

Wolverine 1000 Mile Plain Toe Boot in Charcoal

Made in the USA, Goodyear welted, and Horween leather uppers.

Bonobos Plaid Wool Unconstructed Sportcoat – $ 224.98 ($ 450)

Bonobos Plaid Wool Unconstructed Sportcoat

Slim fit. Just quarter lined in the back. And unlike Bonobos, when these are on sale, they aren’t final sale. Hooray for free shipping and free returns.

1901 Rainier Longwing Derby – $ 65.90 ($ 110)

1901 Rainier Longwing Derby

Sole looks a little… thick? Not platform, but not svelte either. Yet sometimes that can work on a longwing. Also available in blue suede here.

Hart Schaffner Marx Sheffield Classic Fit Wool & Cashmere Overcoat – $ 297.49 ($ 595)

Hart Schaffner Marx Sheffield Classic Fit Wool & Cashmere Overcoat

Still plenty of winter left. 90% wool and 10% cashmere here. Really liking that not quite camel, but not medium brown either shade.

Nordstrom Signature Cashmere Socks – $ 29.70 ($ 49.50)

Nordstrom Cashmere Socks

If you or someone you know loves his shoe collection, then he pays attention to his feet. And nothing says appreciating feet quite like cashmere socks.

Nordstrom Auburn Trim Fit Peacoat – $ 199.90 ($ 349)

Nordstrom Auburn Trim Fit Peacoat

Wool blend here: 60% wool, 35% polyester, 5% other fibers. Claims a trim fit though, and it’s a little longer than some other peacoats so it looks like it should cover a sportcoat or suit coat tail?

Nordstrom Leather Driving Gloves – $ 44.75 ($ 89.95)

Nordstrom Leather Driving Gloves

Great for this time of year… if you live in warmer climates. That said, drivers are great for those in-between weather days (and seasons… like Spring and Fall). Also available in black.

Calibrate Wool Blend Bomber Jacket – $ 84.49 ($ 169)

Calibrate Wool Blend Bomber Jacket

It’s poly first, but at least there’s a good amount of wool in the blend: 64% polyester, 33% wool, 3% other fibers. Available in either solid, or HOLY PLAID THAT’S REALLY PLAID.

Cole Haan Quilted Jacket – $ 149.00 ($ 298)

Cole Haan Quilted Jacket

Yes it’s all poly, but boy does it get a lot of things right. The snaps to cinch up the fit. The elbow patches. The hand warmer pockets. The corduroy collar. That’s a lot of jacket for $ 150.

Nordstrom The Rail Tempe Chukka – $ 53.96 ($ 89.95)

Nordstrom The Rail Tempe Chukka

What do you get when you take a $ 90 leather chukka and mark it down to fifty? I’m not sure. But the almost 5/5 star reviews after 17 reviews is encouraging. And hey, if they stink, you can send em’ back for free.

Lamarque Diamond Quilted Leather Jacket – $ 418 ($ 625)

Lamarque Diamond Quilted Leather Jacket

I’m not a leather jacket guy myself, but… if I was? That’d be the jacket. That quilting. Great googly moogly.

Marc New York Humboldt Quilted Jacket – $ 117.25 ($ 175)

Marc New York Humboldt Quilted Jacket

A standard quilted jacket with a surprise inside. Extra insulated thanks to a high-pile fleece liner vest that’s also detachable. Too hot one day? You can ditch it until the temps drop further.

Nordstrom Cashmere Lined Perforated Deerskin Gloves – $ 44.75 ($ 89.50)

Nordstrom Cashmere Lined Perforated Deerskin Gloves

More coverage than a standard driver, and these are lined in cashmere.

Good Man Brand Twill Quilted Slim Fit Shirt Jacket – $ 136.80 ($ 228)

Good Man Brand Twill Quilted Slim Fit Shirt Jacket

Cotton here, but that texture and the snaps/pocket placement/collar all make for a really unique looking medium to light jacket.

UGG Halfstein Plain Toe Waterproof Boot – $ 112.90 ($ 190)

UGG Halfstein Plain Toe Waterproof Boot

There are worse looking ways to get through the slush and snow. Surprised they’re priced this low, being that UGG seems to be something of a brand that likes to mark their stuff up. Full grain leather uppers too.

John W. Nordstrom Houndstooth Wool Sport Coat – $ 249.49 ($ 499)

John W. Nordstrom Houndstooth Wool Sport Coat

Oooh. Hello. Burgundy. That’ll do. And from their upgraded, nicer than you’d expect line, John W. Nordstrom.

Nordstrom Merino Wool Blend Thermal Henley – $ 44.75 ($ 89.50)

Nordstrom Merino Wool Blend Thermal Henley

More Nordstrom house brand goodness. 50% merino, 50% acrylic. Can’t speak for these, yet, but I’m a big fan of merino and merino blend henleys. And thus, have a couple on the way.

1901 Jackson Extra Trim Fit Wool Overcoat – $ 209.40 ($ 349)

1901 Jackson Extra Trim Fit Wool Overcoat

EXTRA trim fit here. So you better be real slim, or, not one to layer much. 100% wool.

Herschel Supply Co. Novel Offset Denim Duffel Bag – $ 83.98 ($ 120)

Herschel Supply Co. Novel Offset Denim Duffel Bag

With that famous shoe compartment. Liking the color contrast here.

Marc New York Fletcher Quilted Bomber Jacket – $ 105 ($ 175)

Marc New York Fletcher Quilted Bomber Jacket

Quilted jacket #2365 from this sale… but… this one is a bomber. Complete with bomber collar, cuffs, and hem, as well as the zippered pocket on the sleeve.

L.B.M 1911 Classic Fit Cotton & Wool Sport Coat in Blue or Green – $ 476.98 ($ 795)

L.B.M 1911 Classic Fit Cotton & Wool Sport Coat

Spendy. But worth a mention for the #menswear nerds out there, since it seems those types seem to really, really like the L.B.M. brand and what they offer.

Billy Reid Eastwood Wool Blend Jacket – $ 176.98 ($ 295)

Billy Reid Eastwood Wool Blend Jacket

Wait, it’s wool? Well, at least wool blend. 65% wool, 35% nylon. And Billy Reid makes really, really nice stuff.

The Rail Edward Chelsea Boot in Chestnut or Gray – $ 65.98 ($ 110)

The Rail Edward Chelsea

Inexpensive. Very inexpensive. And that’s not a bad thing if you’re curious about chelseas but don’t want to drop a ton of cash on a pair for fear of them not “working.” Should go great with jeans. And they ship back for free in case they arrive and you decide they’re a no-go.

The Rail Quilted Nylon Trucker Jacket – $ 59.40 ($ 99)

The Rail Quilted Nylon Trucker Jacket

Cheap! And the use of both vertical and horizontal stitches to make the quilted exterior is a nice call.

1901 Columbia Chukka Sneaker – $ 62.49 ($ 125)

1901 Columbia Chukka Sneaker

A hybrid. Not all hybrids look… natural? Some of them look kinda Frankenstein-y. Not here. And the price is solid too.

John W. Nordstrom Mason Herringbone Wool & Cashmere Overcoat – $ 359.40 ($ 599)

John W. Nordstrom Mason Herringbone Wool & Cashmere Overcoat

Subtle, but should stand out a bit thanks to the herringbone pattern to the fabric. 95% wool and 5% cashmere exterior.

Polo RL Deerskin Gloves – $ 74.98 ($ 125)

Polo RL Deerskin Gloves

More on-sale gloves. Deerskin here. Still smart-phone touch screen compatible. Adjustable wrist strap. Lined.

Made in Italy TBNY Double Monk in Leather or Suede – $ 196.90 ($ 395)

Made in Italy TBNY Double Monk

Well those are awfully handsome. Perfect, timeless toe shape. Subtle cap toe. And the buckles are slightly rounded at the corners. No sharp edges there. Slim rubber sole for traction.

Nordstrom Trim Fit Flat Front Stretch Wool Trousers – $ 77.40 ($ 129)

Nordstrom Trim Fit Flat Front Stretch Wool Trousers

Check out that burgundy option. Un-hemmed, so, you’ll need to have a tailor shorten them to your specified preferred break. Trim fit. Flat front.

Nordstrom Trim Fit Flat Front Stretch Wool Pants – $ 49.75 ($ 99.50)

Nordstrom Trim Fit Flat Front Stretch Wool Pants

Or… there’s these. Plaid. And noticeably less expensive. Still unfinished hem. 97% wool / 3% spandex.

1901 Renton Suede Bluchers – $ 69.90 ($ 109.95)

1901 Renton Suede Bluchers

Inexpensive suede bluchers that’ll look great with all sorts of smart-casual or business casual wear.

Vince Camuto Melton Car Coat with Removable Bib – $ 129.90 ($ 198)

Vince Camuto Melton Car Coat with Removable Bib

That could be a LOT of coat for $ 130. And the key is that the bib is removable. I’ve never understood otherwise refined looking topcoats with a fixed, non-removable bib/fake layer. Thankfully, that’s NOT the case here.

Jack Mason 40mm Racing Chrono – $ 164.98 ($ 275)

Jack Mason 40mm Racing Chrono

Fast looks but a not super expensive price. Not from a heritage watchmaker, but a fashion brand. Yet it’s a fashion brand that can make some good looking watches if you like the busy thing.

1901 Kent Chukka Boot – $ 74.90 ($ 125)

1901 Kent Chukka Boot

Gray! Suede! Chukkas! It’s like they’ve been reading this site (I’m guessing they haven’t, but hey, that’s cool too).

1901 Lightweight Chore Jacket – $ 71.40 ($ 119)

1901 Lightweight Chore Jacket

Shades of J. Crew’s cotton chore jacket… only this one isn’t almost always perpetually sold out, AND it ships and returns for free.

Good Man Brand Mix Modern Slim Fit Wool Sweater – $ 118.80 ($ 198)

Good Man Brand Mix Modern Slim Fit Wool Sweater

Another modern design made from heritage materials from Good Man Brand. All merino here. Two colorways to pick from.

Rodd & Gunn Regular Fit Sport Coat – $ 198.98 ($ 398)

Wool blend. But zoom in and it almost looks like a corduroy? Or maybe a knit? 42% wool, 40% polyester, 18% polyamide.

Made in Italy Monte Rosso Montreux Wingtip Boot – $ 174.98 ($ 350)

Monte Rosso Montreux Wingtip Boot

The not as fortunate man’s Dalton? Plus these come with traction on the sole, standard. Uppers also claim to be water resistant.

Cole Haan ‘Warren’ Wingtip – $ 99.90 ($ 200)

Cole Haan 'Warren' Wingtip

Kinda liking that “copper” leather. Looks matte and marbled. A casual wingtip for sure. Not gonna be dressed too far up, but should look pretty good with jeans and a sportcoat or OCBD/sweater combo?

Billy Reid Regular Fit Mouline Cardigan – $ 97.50 ($ 195)

70% cotton and 30% poly, so… luxury sweats? Is that a thing? Two colors.

Reebok Revenge Plus Sneaker – $ 50.96 ($ 84.95)

Shades of the Nike Killshot. Maybe. A little. More Killshot alternatives can be found here.

Flynt Regular Fit Knit Wool Blend Sport Coat in Port or Blue – $ 318.75 ($ 425)

Somewhat similar to BR’s outstanding Italian wool knit sportcoat. 55% wool / 45% poly here for the Flynt option. Frankly, I’d go with the BR.

Cole Haan Harrison Grand Cap Toe Oxford – $ 129.90 ($ 220)

Entry level dress shoes. True oxfords with a cap toe. Probably won’t last you a lifetime, but with reasonable care, should last you a while. Well reviewed.

Ted Baker Berman Faux Leather Duffel Bag – $ 89.40 ($ 149)

Speaking of probably not gonna last you a lifetime, but could do right by you with reasonable precautions… Sporty stripe. 19″W x 11″H x 9″D = 1,881 cubic inches. So not the biggest thing.

Michael Kors Wool Blend Peacoat – $ 99.90 ($ 350)

Michael Kors Wool Blend Peacoat

Good grief… 400 reviews, and it’s north of 4/5 stars. That’s impressive. 60% wool. Four colors to pick from including navy (which isn’t shown above).

Cole Haan Jefferson Waterproof Wholecut Oxford – $ 129.99 ($ 300)

Cole Haan Jefferson Waterproof Wholecut Oxford

Cole Haans for $ 300? Nah. But for $ 130, and they can be go-tos on crap weather days since they’re water proof? Yes please. They look a little thick in the britches, but that might come in handy when the weather is being terrible. Also available in black.

Nordstrom Tech-Smart Trim Fit Stretch Check Dress Shirt – $ 34.75 ($ 69.50)

Nordstrom Tech-Smart Trim Fit Stretch Check Dress Shirt

Basic dress shirts that have some technology woven in for stretch and breathability. Lots of colors, but sizes are pretty scattered.

Cole Haan Tyler Chukka Boot – $ 149.90 ($ 250)

Cole Haan Tyler Chukka Boot

Yes, Cole Haans are overpriced at full retail. But this isn’t full retail. Lots of positive reviews on the Nordstrom site too.

Berle Wool Flat Front Windowpane Wool Trousers in Gray or Blue – $ 129.98 ($ 215)

Berle Wool Flat Front Windowpane Wool Trousers

So these are loud. Real loud. And not the slimmest cut. But if you’re a risk taker and have some meat on your bones… just keep the rest of your outfit pretty calm, right?

Cole Haan Original Grand Wingtip – $ 74.98 ($ 150)

Cole Haan Original Grand Wingtip

Some people love these things. Some think they’re an abomination. I ain’t judging. At least, not this time.

Nordstrom Signature 100% Cashmere Overcoat – $ 599.49 ($ 1199)

Hey big spender. I mean, that’s a lot of cash. But that’s a lot of goat combing too. 100% cashmere and made in Italy.

Well I don’t know about you dear Reader, but I’m exhausted after all that. Did we miss something? Send anything that you think belongs in our picks from this monster half-yearly sale to: joe@dappered.com

All Deals on HP, Dell and Lenovo!

Banana Republic: 52% off One Day Sale

BR: 52% off (no code needed) + Extra 10% off for cardmembers w/ BRCARD (exp 12/15)

UPDATE: The deal is over, but the replacement is really good. 50% off most everything (some exclusions) through 12/24. No code needed. BRCARD should work for card members too.

So here’s how the math works:

  • This isn’t 60% off. Why? Because that “extra” 20% come off the discounted price. Not the full price.
  • But it’s still a really good deal. Say the purchase, pre code, is $ 100…
  • 100 x .6 (for 40% off) = $ 60. Then the additional 20% off comes, so $ 60 x .8. That = $ 48.
  • So the discount in the end is 52% off. Better than Black Friday.

Yes there are some exclusions (BR Picks are out,) but it seems like Banana Republic has been kind enough to hold off on tagging a LOT of stuff with that exclusion.

Norman Leather Chukka Boot – $ 85.44 ($ 178)

Norman Leather Chukka Boot

Basic, good looking chukkas that are noticeably sleeker than a crepe soled desert boot. Something you can dress up a bit. And at a price that if they take on some damage from the winter weather, you won’t cry yourself to sleep at night.

Slim Italian Wool-Blend Motion-Stretch Blazer – $ 143.04 ($ 298)

Slim Italian Wool-Blend Motion-Stretch Blazer

Utterly brilliant. These are an Italian wool blend. Still knit, but doesn’t feel like a sweatshirt or, a sweater really. But still super flexible. Two appropriate cold weather colors. Just wore the burgundy one last night to a dinner in a kinda warmer than normal restaurant, and it was super breathable. Saved me from looking like a sweaty mess.

Tully Sneaker Chelsea – $ 61.44 ($ 128)

Banana Republic Tully Sneaker Chelsea

Big, big fan of these. Also available in charcoal. Super comfortable, super versatile, and a mighty fair price for the look and feel of what you get. Full review here.

Moto Zip Leather Glove – $ 41.72 ($ 98)

I thought leather accessories weren’t included? But at post time, these are getting the cut. Note that these are NOT the same gloves that appear in the handful headers every once in awhile (those are some old Polo Ralph Lauren deerskin gloves.) But these have the same aesthetic. They’re even also made of Deerskin.

Italian Melton Wool-Blend Car Coat – $ 181.44 ($ 378)

Banana Republic Italian Melton Wool-Blend Car Coat

One of the best best for outerwear, once again. Terrific fabric, despite the mix being a pretty standard 80% wool / 20% the rest. Soft and smooth. A good depth to it for warmth, but still flexible. Big fan of the slanted hand pockets. Size shown above is a large on 195-200lbs. 80% wool / 17% poly / 3% other.

Italian Moleskin Trucker Jacket – $ 109.44 ($ 228)

Banana Republic Italian Moleskin Trucker Jacket

Moleskin = a brushed, dense, cotton fabric that’s super soft and almost suede like. A nice, cheaper alternative to Huckberry’s made in the USA Flint and Tinder moleskin shirt jacket.

Extra Fine Italian Merino Wool V or Crew Neck Sweaters – $ 42.96 ($ 89.50)

While some other brands are cutting back on the quality of their fabrics, or, starting to do blends, BR is thankfully sticking to their outstanding Italian Extra Fine Merino wool. Basics of course, but these are really nice basics. Lots of colors to pick from. Lots.

Wool-Blend Snap Glove – $ 42.96 ($ 89.50)

BR Wool Blend Snap Gloves

A mixed media pair of gloves. 67% wool, 19% viscose, 14% nylon tops. Goat leather palms. Snap at the wrist.

B.R. x Kevin Love Wool Blend Crew – $ 51.84 ($ 108)

B.R. x Kevin Love Wool Blend Crew

Colors and sizes seem to be coming and going. Blue and Gold = all sizes at post time. Overally? It’s nice. Very nice. 60% wool and 40% nylon blend that’s spun to feel extra light and soft. And it is. Size shown is a medium on my 5’10” / 195 lb frame. Big fan of those retro stripes. On the thicker side. Not some paper thin, super easy to layer thing. A warm sweater.

Rapid Movement Jean – $ 56.64 ($ 118)

Banana Republic Rapid Movement Denim

Obliagtory mention. Full review can be found here. Plenty of fits and washes to pick from. Size shown above is a 33×30 tapered fit in rinse. Enormous fan of these.

Large Tote Bag – $ 28.56 ($ 59.50)

Way, way better looking than some reusable grocery bag. Plus much more sturdy. You can haul heavy stuff in these things. Great for stashing in the trunk of your car and/or using it as an extra, “oh just throw all that junk in the same bag” getaway container. Has a zip top too in case you need to keep something out of the elements. Not small. Big.

Merino Wool Blend Rugby Stripe Scarf – $ 33.36 ($ 69.50)

BR Merino Wool Blend Rugby Stripe Scarf

Ban acrylic. At least when it comes to scarves. Especially when 100% merino wool scarves that look as good as these can be had for this reasonable of a price.

Hadley Italian Leather Brogue Oxford – $ 75.84 ($ 158)

BR Hadley Italian Brogue Oxford

Inexpensive brogue bluchers. So… certainly leaning more smart casual than dressed up. And that contrasting welt would look pretty good up against some dark denim.

Brushed Traveler Pants in Slim or Athletic Tapered – $ 52.32 ($ 109)

BR Brushed Traveler Pants

Moleskin Traveler Pants! I repeat! Moleskin Traveler Pants! Your favorite five pockets winterized with super soft, brushed cotton.

Italian Merino Wool Shawl-Collar Sweater – $ 47.28 ($ 98.50)

Italian Merino Wool Shawl-Collar Sweater

Much, much better looking than a hoodie. And not that much more expensive than some collegiate book store hoodie. Not bad considering these are 100% Italian Merino wool.

Merino Rectangular Scarf – $ 38.16 ($ 79.50)

Don’t be fooled by the “rectangular” stuff. It’s a regularly proportioned scarf (70″ x 12″). Which, well, yes. That’s a rectangle of course. ANYWAY. Geography* wasn’t my best subject. They’re describing the texture of the knit.

Billi Buckle Boot – $ 90.24 ($ 188)

BR Billi Buckle Boot

Affordable Jodhpur boots. Also available in a black leather, but y’know the old saying… cheap suede outperforms cheap smooth leather every time.

Italian Melton Wool Blend Bomber – $ 143.04 ($ 298)

Banana Republic Italian Melton Wool Blend Bomber

Bombers have been big for a couple years now, and that one might just be the cream of the affordable yet still really good looking crop. 80% wool and 20% nylon Italian fabric. Also available in charcoal.

Donegal Crew Neck Sweater – $ 47.28 ($ 98.50)

BR Donegal Crew Neck Sweater

That traditional, flecked look, without the super traditional bulky as hell fit (one would assume). 65% extra-fine merino wool, 30% nylon, 5% alpaca wool.

Kevin Love DB Topcoat – $ 191.04 ($ 398) | Single Breasted Topcoat – $ 181.44 ($ 378)

Banana Republic Topcoats

More pick(s) from the Kevin Love collection at Banana Republic. Both are made from Italian 80% wool / 20% nylon material. Still a good amount of sizes left.

Cotton Cable-Knit Shawl-Collar Cardigan – $ 61.92 ($ 129)

B.R. Cotton Cable-Knit Shawl-Collar Cardigan

Not wool. But some people prefer cotton. Whether it’s due to allergies or an itch factor or whatever. And that texture.

Heritage Italian Wool Blend Stripe Sweater – $ 47.28 ($ 98.50)

Banana Republic Heritage Italian Wool Blend Stripe Sweater

From their classic but never stuffy “heritage” line. Not a bad price for a nautical striped, wool blend crew that you’ll probably reach for time and time and time again. 80% recycled Merino wool, 20% nylon. Shown above with the Kevin Love DB topcoat.

Slim Italian Velvet Blazer – $ 143.04 ($ 298)

Banana Republic Slim Italian Velvet Blazer

New Years Eve is fast approaching…

Slim Traveler Pant – $ 47.28 ($ 98.50)

BR Slim Traveler Pant

4.7/5 stars after over 1200 reviews. They’re a jean style chino made with some sort of high-recovery Italian stretch cotton. So, comfort of your favorite pair of jeans, only in chino like colors & finish. Lots of colors to pick from. Also offered in Athletic Tapered and Skinny. Full review here. Also shown top right of the post in wine.

Merino Wool Blend Cardigan – $ 80.64 ($ 168)

Merino Wool Blend Cardigan

Love the look of all the different types of knit here. Makes it stand out, yet they all work together nicely. Just… don’t hang your sweaters. Just don’t. Especially on a wire hanger like shown here in their promo shot.

Italian Melton Wool-Blend Two-Pocket Coat – $ 157.44 ($ 328)

BR Italian Melton Wool-Blend Two-Pocket Coat

For those who want something more pea-coat like, but don’t love the double breasted look. Italian wool-blend melton fabric.

Slim Traveler Cords – $ 47.04 ($ 98)

BR Slim Traveler Cords

A cold weather version of many a fella’s favorite 5-pocket. These might not have QUITE as much stretch as the original traveler five pockets?

Herne Suede Longwing – $ 75.84 ($ 158)

Herne Suede Longwing

Not bad at all.  Like their other suede shoes, this “Herne” wingtip looks and feels much more expensive than the on-sale asking price. Sure they’re made in China, but they feel well made, the suede is solid, they don’t smell like gasoline, and the leather linings and Ortholite insoles are nice and comfy. Fit seems true too. A 10.5 fit my normally 10.5D feet just fine. Full review here.

Italian Melton Wool Blend Herringbone Topcoat – $ 191.04 ($ 398)

B.R. Italian Melton Wool Blend Herringbone Topcoat

80% wool and 20% nylon Italian wool blend melton fabric. It’s a true herringbone pattern. A mix of cream and gray. So if you don’t like that contrast, beware. It’s not a solid gray. Hits at mid-thigh. Exposed buttons (no covered placket, some guys prefer exposed buttons, some don’t). Super classy looking.

Slim Dark Rinse Japanese Traveler Jean – $ 59.50 ($ 119)

B.R. Slim Dark Rinse Japanese Traveler Jean

The legend. After 900+ reviews on the BR site, these things still have a 4.5 out of 5 star rating. Full review here.

Nicklas Sneaker – $ 61.44 ($ 128)

Banana Republic Nicklas Sneaker

White leather uppers? Check. Gum sole? Check. Blue accents? Check. Full review here.

Kevin Love Performance Stretch Wool Track Pant – $ 47.04 ($ 98)

BR x Kevin Love Performance Stretch Wool Track Pant

It’s a well established fact that this website is NOT pro-joggers. But these aren’t joggers. No silly elastic around the hems. And instead of crappy cotton terry, these are a stretch wool fabric. Sign me up.

Core Temp Chinos – $ 47.04 ($ 98)

BR Core Temp Chinos

Lightweight, breathable, and absurdly comfortable. Full review here.

Cable-Knit High Crew-Neck Sweater – $ 57.12 ($ 119)

BR Cable-Knit High Crew-Neck Sweater

This thing has a lot of interesting points of detail, for it being just a sweater. Multiple styles of cable knit up front and on the sleeves, but a smooth back. Collar is higher than a normal crew-neck, but not mock neck high. 80% extra-fine Merino wool, 20% nylon.

Slim Motion Stretch Blazers – $ 95.04 ($ 198)

Banana Republic Slim Motion Stretch Blazers

BR’s “Motion Stretch” line is a collision of tailored wear and stuff that feels like sweats. Only unlike sweats, they’ve been engineered to breathe and avoid that stuffiness. And while these feel a bit like sweats, they look a little more polished. Not as smart/dressy as a regular wool sportcoat, but still nice. Cotton poly blend.

This 52% off Banana Republic (plus an extra 10% off for cardemembers) deal runs through today, 12/15.

*Yes, this “Geography” bit is a joke.

UK politicians blast Arconic’s sale talks with Paul Singer

A British member of Parliament who publicly questioned the sale has told The Post she is now concerned…

White Noise Machine For Sleeping

There are about a million different solutions out there for people who have trouble sleeping, but most of them aren’t really solutions at all. I recently gave the Adaptive Sound Technologies LectroFan Evo Sound Machine a shot, and I was surprised to find that it really does help me sleep better! It normally sells for $ 60, but it’s on sale on Amazon for one day only at its lowest price ever, just $ 39.

BEST ENTERTAINMENT DEALS UPDATE:

Allen Edmonds Boot Sale, Early Nordy Savings, & More – The Thurs. Men’s Sales Handful

Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend or a bit earlier. Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look. Those are what make up these handfuls. Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below, plus bonus sales if need be. Included are a few picks worth pointing out.

Allen Edmonds Up to 25% off select boots

Boot season is very much here. And while these aren’t in the basement in terms of how low prices can go, $ 370 for a pair of ships and returns for free, first quailty Daltons (especially with the Dainite sole) is nice and fair. Review of the Daltons can be found here, while the CXL Higgins Mill review can be found here.

Nordstrom: Save Up to 50% Men’s Sale Section

So the gift card deal that they were running is done, but it looks like a lot of in-season stuff has made its way into their sale section early. They DO run a massive half-yearly sale after Christmas (stay tuned for a 12/26 post running down all the best that ends up in their sale section,) but this feels like a nicer preview than in years past.

Massdrop: Glycine Combat Sub Auto – $ 329.99 FINAL ($ 1500)

Lots of color and case finish options for the range. These have been gone off Massdrop for quite a while. Look, it’s not a $ 1500 watch. But it’s a hell of a watch for $ 330. Swiss made, automatic movement, Sapphire Crystal, 200m water resistance, etc. Lots of good specs here. Estimated ship date is December 27th, so, happy new year to you?

Banana Republic: Extra 50% off Sale Items

Seems like a pretty scatter-shot selection. Sizes are pretty scattered no matter what you’re after, but an extra 50% off is an extra 50% off. Just be careful of the final sale items that are lurking in there. Discount happens at checkout. Don’t forget that cardmembers should still get an extra 10% off with BRCARD.

Massdrop: Woodlore Cedar Shoe Valet Starter Kit II – $ 54.99 FINAL ($ 79.95)

Massdrop: Woodlore Cedar Shoe Valet Starter Kit II

That’s a lot of shoe-care goodness for under $ 55. Yes, it’s final sale, but it’s not like this thing isn’t gonna “fit.” Great for the guy just getting into style, or, the guy who’s into style but doesn’t have a good place to store his shoe care stuff quite yet. You get the cedar shoe valet/stand, plus: Black carnauba shoe wax, Burgundy carnauba shoe wax, Brown carnauba shoe wax, Neutral carnauba shoe wax, 4 cloth applicators, 2 polish daubers, and 2 small horsehair shine brushes.

Safe to say Dyson doesn’t get its top-notch reputation from doing a lackluster job in the cleaning department. ENTERTAINMENT DEAL UPDATE:

J. Crew: 50% off Most Full Priced their site crashed on Black Friday Sale

TGIF = 50% off at J. Crew (exp Sun 11/25)

What the hell was that? The biggest shopping day of the year, an unusually high discount for the brand in question, a company that’s struggling… and their site crashes and burns?

I’m guessing not a lot of people in the J. Crew tech department was saying “TGIF” yesterday. Plus, that code would imply that it expired on Friday. When their site was in the gutter, twitching uncontrollably. But it DIDN’T expire yesterday. It expires today. Saturday, 11/24. So in case anyone still cares, and has any cash left you’d care to spend, here’s the best of the best from this rare half off sale at J. Crew. Now do me a favor and keep your darn site up and running today, okay J. Crew?

SUNDAY UPDATE: After more website trouble yesterday, J. Crew decided to extend this 50% off TGIF code through today (Sunday, 11/25.) It appears that the J. Crew website is stable. For now.

Goodyear Welted Kenton Leather Pacer Boots – $ 124 ($ 228)

Absurdly good prices for this in-house, Goodyear Welted boot. Lots of sizes at post time, which is kinda crazy considering the price. Indiana Jones boots for the not quite as well-off.

Ludlow Shawl-Collar Velvet Blazer – $ 149 ($ 298)

Ludlow Shawl-Collar Velvet Blazer

It’s too sexy! Look, velvet blazers aren’t for everyone, especially with that throw-back shawl collar, but now if you’re unsure? The risk has been mitigated by the major discount. Big fan of that dark green.

Rugged Merino Wool Shawl-Collar Pullover in Heather or Donegal – $ 49 ($ 98)

J. Crew Rugged Merino Wool Shawl-Collar Cardigan Sweater

Four color options. Basically the same sweater (at least it looks to be from here?) but one is considered to be heathered, and the other is donegal. Beats me.

Legacy Blazer in American Wool in Ludlow or Crosby Fit – $ 175 ($ 350)

Dappered.com

A total classic that’s not the frumpy gold-buttoned, hard shoulder kind that your boss favors on the weekend.

Ludlow Blazer in Herringbone English Tweed – $ 149 ($ 298)

Dappered.com

These always make the annual best sportcoats of fall post and for good reason. Softer tweed than what you might be envisioning. Less construction too. Half lined. Shown above is a 40R on 5’10″/ 185. Full review here.

New Balance for J. Crew 791 Leather Sneakers – $ 37.40 ($ 79)

Killshot knock offs! Wait, can you knock off one of your own collaborations with another collaboration? Doesn’t matter. They’re on sale, and thus, getting an additional 50% off. Crazy.

Slim American Pima Cotton OCBD – $ 34.75 ($ 69.50)

J. Crew OCBD

A classic OCBD that comes in a true slim fit and is made from American grown Supima cotton. Tons of colors to pick from. Yes, they’re made overseas, but the reviews are solid. Are there cheaper OCBD options out there? Absolutely. But not many now that they’re half off.

Rugged Merino Wool/Nylon Heather Crewneck Sweater – $ 34.75 ($ 69.50)

J. Crew Rugged Merino Wool/Nylon Heather Crewneck Sweater

A basic that you’ve got to admit is at a pretty solid price. Merino wool + nylon blend. Lots of colors to pick from.

Made in Italy MacAllister Desert Boots – $ 74 ($ 148)

Made in Italy MacAllister Desert Boots

Stitched out welt construction. Three versatile colors to choose from. A little slimmer than some bulkier desert boots. Really nice price for the made in Italy factor.

Oar Stripe Goodyear Welted Chelsea Boots in Italian Leather – $ 149 ($ 298)

Oar Stripe Chelsea Boots

Well? Someone was able to get through their site yesterday. Because these are close to sold out now. Still worth a check if you’re in the market for Chelseas. Shown above is the “burnished ruby.” Not sure how RED OH MY GOSH RED those are gonna be in person, or if they’ll be more of a chili or oxblood. Lots of sizes left on those.

Dock Peacoat with Thinsulate – $ 149 ($ 298)

J. Crew Dock Peacoat

J. Crew’s take on the classic Peacoat, now down for around Army/Navy surplus store prices. And these can compete with the real thing. Good wool, a bit of insulation, those hand warmer pockets are a huge benefit, and it’s slightly longer than far too many peacoats that chop the tail short.

Oar Stripe Leather Weekender – $ 199 ($ 398)

Oar Stripe Leather Weekender

I don’t know how the leather quality is on these things. Just one review so far, and it’s encouraging, but know that in the past J. Crew has been a little hit or miss on leather accessories.

Oar Stripe Canvas Weekender Bag – $ 124 ($ 248)

Oar Stripe Canvas Weekender Bag

A less expensive version of the all leather option. Less leather will do that.

Ludlow wide-lapel suit jacket in Italian worsted wool + slim or classic pant = $ 384.49

It’s the slimmer fitting Ludlow jacket, but with a wider more timeless lapel. The jacket is on sale, while the pants are not. So total still comes in under $ 400 for a versatile, “Harbor” blue suit separates pair that should serve you well. Crosby fit jackets are available, but sizing is limited.

Oar Stripe Italian Leather Derbys – $ 149 ($ 298)

Oar Stripe Italian Leather Derbys

The bluchers of their new Italian Leather collection. Goodyear welted. One fifty. Not bad for a basic shoe that’s about the shoe-iest shoe to ever shoe.

Windowpane Cashmere Scarf – $ 49 ($ 98)

J. Crew Windowpane Cashmere Scarf

A lot of brands push solid cashmere scarfs this time of year. And that’s fine and understandable. But it doesn’t take much of a pattern to set a scarf apart. And here’s the proof.

Cashmere Seedstitch Beanie – $ 39.75 ($ 79.50)

J. Crew Cashmere Seed-stitch Beanie

Speaking of small details that can set something apart, check out that stitch. All cashmere once again.

Goodyear Welted Kenton Cap Toe Boots – $ 124 ($ 248)

Kenton Cap Toe Boot

Still Goodyear Welted. Still an absurd price point thanks to the sale. But sizes are starting to get a little short here. Fast. Also shown at the top of the post.

Field mechanic jacket – $ 99 ($ 198)

A cotton, 3 season (or year-round if you live in a warm climate) classic. One of the better reviewed items from J. Crew’s line up.

Ludlow Suit Dinner Jacket in Camel Hair – $ 224 ($ 448)

Ludlow Suit Dinner Jacket in Camel Hair

A niche piece. But a really good looking one.

Wallace & Barnes merino wool cardigan sweater – $ 60 ($ 120)

I nice, slightly more substantial (but still not bulky?) looking cardigan from the upgraded Wallace & Barnes line. All wool here. Contrast “racked” stitching at the placket and at other stylistically strategic points.

Navy windowpane alpaca scarf – $ 39.75 ($ 79.50)

Super soft, Alpaca wool with a windowpane pattern. Light base with a dark windowpane, which flips the contrast script compared to most other windowpane scarves.

Letterman Jacket in Wool – $ 114 ($ 228)

J. Crew Letterman Jacket

What do you call a wool, colorblocked bomber? That’d be a letterman jacket. No letters necessary here either. Also available in a burgundy option that looks more campus-like thanks to a striped collar.

14-Wale Cords in SlimStraight, or Athletic Fit in Pacific Navy – $ 39.75 ($ 79.50)

J. Crew Cords

Yes you can find cords for less (see GAP), but some of you are pretty tied to J. Crew’s pant fits. All three fits available here. Lots of colors to pick from. Cotton with a bit of elastane for stretch.

Ludlow Unconstructed Wool/Cotton Blazer – $ 99 ($ 198)

Ludlow Unconstructed Wool/Cotton Blazer

No lining here except for the sleeves. A little less stuffy compared to a traditional, hard shouldered, gold buttoned navy blazer. Full review here. Also available in a grey as well as a tan “sandy dune.”

Wallace & Barnes Cableknit Crewneck Sweater – $ 55 ($ 110)

Wallace & Barnes Cableknit Crewneck Sweater

Not bad for an all wool, classic cable, not-quite-fisherman’s sweater from their upgraded Wallace and Barnes line.  For being such a simple piece, this thing has a lot of potential.

Merino Wool Wide Placket V-Neck Cardigan Sweater – $ 44.75 ($ 89.50)

J. Crew Merino Wool Wide Placket V-Neck Cardigan Sweater

Big fan of J. Crew’s merino cardigans. Nice material, available in classic or slim fit, and unlike much of the competition, there’s a good sized placket here. Thin cardigan plackets can look a little feminine sometimes. Just wish they made them in more colors. You can have it in any color you’d like… as long as it’s navy.

Lightweight Striped Wool-Blend Scarf – $ 29.75 ($ 59.50)

J. Crew Lightweight Striped Wool-Blend Scarf

Preppy without going overboard. And sometimes you don’t need that super thick muffler, but you still need a scarf to cover up that V at the top of your topcoat. These’ll do the trick nicely.

Wool Sideline Jacket – $ 149 ($ 298)

J. Crew Wool Sidline Jacket

It’s becoming sport for some millenials to rip on J. Crew in their reviews section. As is evidenced by the one review these things are getting. Look, two things can be true. This jacket could stink to high heaven, and the reviewer could also be a whiner. I don’t know. But $ 150 for this seems like a fair risk.

American Lambswool Bird’s-Eye Cardigan Sweater – $ 60 ($ 120)

J. Crew American Lambswool Bird's-Eye Cardigan Sweater

Looks a little less Mr. Rogers and a little more Gatsby’s next door neighbor Nick. Wool is sourced from the same mill that makes up the sweater blazer.

Ludlow Garment Duffle Bag – $ 124 ($ 248)

Ludlow Garment Duffle Bag

And now… some luggage for those who are gonna be travelling with a packed suit or sportcoats this upcoming season. Cotton canvas body, and unzips/unfurls so you can get your suit or jackets (and shoes and what not) to and fro while minimizing creasing and wrinkling risks. Yes, the zippers weren’t designed the best (read the reviews) but attaching a couple of pulls should solve that problem. And most bags like this will run you a heck of a lot more money.

Destination Topcoat in Water Resistant Italian Wool – $ 237.50 ($ 475)

J. Crew Destination Topcoat

Not gonna lie. This is a love it or hate it. (Yet I find myself, personally, somewhere dead inbetween?) This thing is a true knee length, while the rest of the topcoat world has been going just above the knee / mid thigh. And there’s NO vent in the rear. So it’s really… tubular? But what it DOES have going for it, is the middle to lighter weight but still warm and very nice feeling fabric. If you run hot? This is a great coat. J. Crew’s “destination” line is supposed to be a merging of classic materials and technology. So, think breathable, lighter-weight, etc. They say it’s tweed, but it’s soft. Not super rough. Hardly. Raglan style shoulders. Covered placket. Size shown above is a 42R.

The J. Crew 50% off lots of full price & sale stuff code TGIF is set to expire today, 11/24/18. Fingers crossed their website doesn’t crash again.

Hand off the stories of their feminist foremothers this holiday season with a feminist finger puppet of Frida Kahlo, Zora Neale Hurston, Jane Austen, Harriet Tubman, Joan of Arc, Eleanor Roosevelt or other revolutionaries and boundary-breakers.

Get a feminist finger puppet for only $ 5.60 this weekend in the Feminist Store.
