Apparently Prince William and Prince Harry’s split is actually all to do with succession

Here’s everything to know…

REX

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have officially split from Kate Middleton and Prince William to start their own royal household, something that has prompted rumours of feuds and fallouts, with the public fearing for the future of the Fab Four, and particularly, Harry and William’s relationship.

The two brothers were rumoured to have had a falling out recently, all stemming from a reported hesitance to accept Harry and Meghan’s fast-paced relationship, from William’s side.

The speculation only grew louder when the two royal couples split from each other on Instagram this month, something that millennials in particular took to mean that there had been a serious falling out.

Rex

Thankfully, it has been reported this week that the household split is actually a natural progression in the royal family, down to nothing more than succession. Both princes have to separate in order to prepare for their very different imminent royal roles, with William in line to become King. In fact, they went so far as to say that a royal four could never have worked.

’This is a future-proofing exercise’, a royal insider told People, explaining how William must now follow in his grandmother’s footsteps whereas Harry can have more freedom, moving out to Windsor with Meghan to prepare for their royal baby.

‘It was only going to work until they married — and it went on a while longer than perhaps was originally thought,’ the palace insider reportedly continued.

‘There was power in that unity and great strength in the foursome, but I see why [the divide] is happening, There is always that tension: trying to do the PR thing and then realising that they are just real people. They want their own place and their own things.’

Well, that’s that.

Meghan and Harry split from Kate and William’s royal household

They’re going their separate ways

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will officially split from Kate Middleton and Prince William to start their own royal household.

Reports that the Sussexes and the Cambridges would go their separate ways first began last year, and now the Queen has agreed that a new household will be created for Meghan and Harry, but the new office of communications staff and courtiers at Buckingham Palace – which includes hiring new private secretaries – won’t be immediate.

The new set-up will be established in the spring, with a senior aide telling Harpers BAZAAR: ‘This isn’t immediate. It will be a step-by-step process.’

A statement from Kensington Palace said: ‘The Queen has agreed to the creation of a new Household for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, following their marriage in May last year.

‘The Household, which will be created with the support of The Queen and The Prince of Wales, will be established in the spring.

‘The Duke of Sussex currently has his own private office, which has been supporting The Duchess since Their Royal Highness’ engagement in November 2017.

‘This long-planned move will ensure that permanent support arrangements for The Duke and Duchess’s work are in place as they start their family and move to their official residence at Frogmore Cottage.’

It comes days after it was announced that Meghan’s assistant personal secretary, Amy Pickerell, has resigned.

At the time, a Kensington Palace source told BAZAAR: ‘Amy is leaving after the arrival of the baby. The Duchess will be very sad to see her go, but is excited for her as Amy has exciting plans ahead including spending some time abroad.

‘They will definitely stay in touch and Amy will be on hand for any advice and help that is needed in the future.’

Gap To Split Into Two Companies

NEW YORK (AP) — Gap Inc. is splitting into two.

The retailer said Thursday that it’s creating two independent publicly traded companies — low-priced Old Navy and a yet-to-be named company, which will consist of the iconic Gap brand, Athleta, Banana Republic, Intermix and Hill City.

The San Francisco-based company said the spin-off will enable each company to focus on flexibility and pare down costs.

The company also said that it will be shuttering 230 Gap brand stores over the next two years.

Gap’s stock surged 24 percent in after-market trading.

The split up, which followed a comprehensive board review, come as Old Navy has been thriving, while Gap and Banana Republic have struggled.

“It’s clear that Old Navy’s business model and customers have increasingly diverged from our specialty brands over time, and each company now requires a different strategy to thrive moving forward,” said Robert Fisher, Gap Inc.’s chairman.

Gap’s current CEO, Art Peck, will hold the same position at the new company after the separation. Sonia Syngal, current CEO of Old Navy, will continue to lead the brand as a stand-alone company, which has about $ 8 billion in annual revenue. The new company that Peck will run has about $ 9 billion in annual revenue.

Upon separation, Gap Inc. shareholders are expected to receive a pro-rata stock distribution and as a result own shares in both the new company and Old Navy in equal proportion. The deal is expected to close in 2020.

The new company will be based in Gap Inc.’s current headquarters and Old Navy will remain at its current headquarters, both located in San Francisco.

Gap’s shares rose $ 6.21 to $ 31.61 in extended trading after the split-up was announced.

Megan Barton Hanson cries over Wes Nelson split after coming home to her empty flat alone

MEGAN Barton Hanson broke down in tears as she opened up about her “really tough few weeks” in an emotional Instagram Story earlier this evening.

The 24-year-old beauty admitted that she had struggled coming home to her empty flat alone as she expressed her heartache at her split from Wes Nelson last month.

Megan spoke out about how ‘alone’ and ‘sad’ she is feeling

Megan remained off-camera throughout the multiple posts, instead filming her darkened bedroom as she spoke to her followers.

Regularly sniffing, and with her voice cracking at times, the Love Island star explained: “I’ve never done this before, posted anything when I am feeling really c***, but I always preach about mental health and not just showing your highlights on Instagram and it’s been a really tough few weeks.

“I have been filming for two days solid so my mind has been constantly busy and now I’ve come back to this new flat I’ve moved into alone and it’s just sad.

“I’m back to complete silence and….”

Megan remained off-camera throughout the story

The star continued: “I just longed for a boyfriend or a partner for years, before Love Island, and I thought I’d found the one and it’s just difficult.

“Everyone is like ‘you need to be happy in yourself’, and I am, and that’s what’s sad.

“I feel like I am at such a place in my life where I am so content and happy and I just want to share these memories and create a little life and empire with someone else.”

Megan went on to justify why she had posted the emotional video to her page, sharing: “Everyone always puts on their best nights out… Going on their holiday… But this is real life.

“I am so blessed and I have had such an amazing time since I left the villa but there’s always times where you feel alone and sad and I just wanted to share with you.

“It’s not all happiness and positivity all the time.”

She followed up with a written message that read: “Love me or hate me, I wanted to share that and show you despite people’s circumstances life is up and down for us all.

“It’s okay to feel down sometimes. Take a second, dust yourself off, breath, and focus on the future.”

Megan broke up with her Love Island boyfriend last month after growing jealous of his relationship with his professional Dancing On Ice partner, Vanessa Bauer.

Although nothing romantic has happened between Wes and Vanessa, the star admitted that she was struggling to cope and publicly slammed the skater for “disrespecting” her relationship at the time.

All of the Hidden Unbreakable and Split References in Glass

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Unbreakable, Split and Glass.

When Split premiered in 2017, fans were shocked when director M. Night Shyamalan revealed in the final minutes of the film that it was actually a sequel to his 2000 film, Unbreakable. Shyamalan later confirmed in interviews that the plot of Split was originally written as the third act of Unbreakable. Now, Shyamalan is bringing all of his super-powered men together in Glass, the final entry in his realistic superhero trilogy. Fortunately for fans, Glass is filled with easter eggs and hidden connections to the two other films.

A quick recap for those who have forgotten what happened in the two previous movies: In Unbreakable, a man named David Dunn (Bruce Willis) survives a train crash and discovers that he has super strength and unbreakable bones. He can also see a person’s sins when he touches them.

David is skeptical of his powers until Elijah Price, a man with fragile bones who is obsessed with comic books, proves to David that he is indeed a superhero. Only once David has accepted his powers does Elijah reveal that he orchestrated the train derailment in hopes of revealing someone’s super powers. Elijah dubs himself Mr. Glass, a supervillain who is David’s perfect opposite, before he is institutionalized.

Bruce Willis as David in 'Glass'

In Split, a mysterious man (James McAvoy) kidnaps three teenage girls. The teens eventually realize that the man has 24 personalities, including the Beast, a super-strong cannibal. The man, born Kevin Wendell Crumb, was abused as a child and a series of meetings with his therapist reveal that the personalities (including his most dangerous, the bulletproof Beast) emerged to protect Kevin.

The Beast eats two of the girls, saying that he gains power from them. He lets the third girl Casey (Anya Taylor Joy) go because she has suffered through sexual abuse at the hands of her uncle and, according to the Beast’s philosophy, those who suffer will inherit the earth.

Thus the scene is set for Glass, in which David, Kevin and Elijah are all thrown into a psychiatric hospital because of their superhero delusions. At the end of Glass, Elijah orchestrates a fight between the Beast and David outside the hospital and films the interaction to prove to the world that superheroes and supervillains are real. All three men are eventually killed by a secret cabal led by Dr. Ellie Staple (Sarah Paulson) whose mission it is to take out all super-powered people, good or evil, to protect the world.

The characters’ favorite colors

Throughout Unbreakable, David wears lots of green (the color of the poncho he wears while fighting crime), and Elijah wears purple. In Split, Kevin wears yellow when he transforms into the Beast. All three characters continue to wear those respective colors in Glass, while Dr. Staple wears a lot of pink.

Shyamalan uses these colors palettes throughout the film. The shelves in the comic book store where David’s son, Joseph (Spencer Treat Clark), shops are painted both purple and green. And the room where Dr. Staple speaks to the three men together is pink, signaling perhaps that she is in control of the situation.

M. Night Shyamalan plays the same man in all three films

M. Night Shyalaman often makes cameo appearances in his movies. He plays two seemingly unrelated roles in Unbreakable and a landlord in Split, only to reveal in Glass that the two men were the same person.

Shyamalan plays one of David Dunn’s first targets in Unbreakable. David, a security guard at a football stadium, brushes by Shyamalan’s character and sees that he was carrying drugs and a gun. David shares his vision with Elijah. Elijah then follows the character to find out if he is, in fact, carrying a gun. He also uses this information to confirm that David has superpowers.

Shyamalan appears again in Split, this time as Dr. Karen Fletcher’s landlord. Dr. Fletcher asks the landlord to play footage from a security camera outside of her building for her. Watching it, she is able to confirm that the Hive has taken control of Kevin Wendell Crumb’s body. She later confronts the Hive and is killed.

In Glass, Shymalan reveals that his two cameos are related. He plays a man who visits David Dunn’s electronic store and talks about how he is a former drug dealer who “turned himself around” and became a super. He is buying surveillance equipment because one of his tenants (Dr. Fletcher) was recently murdered.

The train accident

All three movies revolve around the train derailment that takes place in the opening minutes of Unbreakable. David Dunn is the only person to survive the accident in that film, which Elijah later reveals that he caused.

In Split, Kevin must go to the train tracks in order to unleash his final personality, the Beast. In that movie, he explains to his therapist, Dr. Fletcher, that his father left on a train and never returned, leaving Kevin with his abusive mother.

In Glass, Joseph discovers that Kevin’s father was killed in the same train accident that David survived. Thus, Elijah created two superheroes with one catastrophe.

Casey’s coat from the zoo

Kevin Wendell Crumb kept the girls he kidnapped under the zoo in Split. A zookeeper discovers Casey, the lone survivor, at the end of the film and offers her his jacket. (At this point her shirt has been ripped in her fight with the Beast.) Casey dons the coat during a scene from Glass as she leaves the mental hospital after her meeting with Dr. Staple.

Kevin’s scars

When The Beast emerges, he reveals two scars on his torso where Casey shot him with a shotgun in Split.

The “Marvel” building

Elijah hints that he will stage the final showdown between David and the Beast at Philadelphia’s tallest building. He gets the idea from a magazine cover, which declares the tower a “marvel” in the headline. The phrase is a nod to the prolific comic book publisher.

But the fact that the building is associated at all with Marvel should have tipped audiences off to the fact that the heroes and villains of Glass would never fight there. Shyamalan has called Glass a realistic superhero movie. Fighting at the top of a tower, as Marvel superheroes would, defies realism. Instead, Elijah forces the final fight to take place outside the mental hospital, where he can secretly control all the cameras and leak the footage out to the world.

“Split” was a surprise hit for director M. Night Shyamalan, but its most satisfying gambit came in unexpectedly setting up a sequel to his 2000 thriller “Unbreakable.” The result, “Glass,” isn’t a breakthrough, but proves just clever enough to come out on the right side of a split decision.

Men on romance – ‘How I navigated the post-relationship split minefield’

From nights in with a meal for one to convincing yourself you just saw your ex on the Tube again, getting over a break-up is never easy. Writer Jolyon Rubinstein shares his journey of going it alone

It was Valentine’s Day. Food had been cooked, cards had been written, candles had been lit. And yet the ache in my stomach persisted. The nagging knot that refused to go away even on the day when society says we must celebrate our love. And it was love, of a sort… An ever so complicated mixture of what I wanted, coming up against the harsh reality of what I needed and what I had been conditioned to want.

She came in and sat down and I could feel the tension rise as the density of the air in the room increased. Our balloon was about to pop. She started to talk about her corporation’s losses in the luxury goods sector with the BRIC economies spending less, and I sighed, outwardly and inwardly, expecting more. And then I interrupted her. I had a habit of doing that, and she had rightfully run out of patience with that more jagged of habits.

That was the moment it snapped. There had been an awful lot of precursors, but this was different.

‘In the era of Instagram, it becomes so much harder. I found myself checking her social media to get another hit of self-inflicted grief’

The depth of the breath we both then took was internal reassurance that what was about to happen was necessary, if deeply divisive and painful. But it was so much more painful than I had expected. Now in my thirties, I found myself less emotionally resilient than I had been in my twenties. And with friends settling down with children and mortgages, there were fewer Saturday evening congregations to ease the blow.

I had invested a great deal in this relationship, even though I knew it wasn’t right for me. I wanted to have children, I thought we would get married, and our break-up meant going back to square one. I packed a small bag and went to stay at a friend’s house. Within two weeks I had booked a trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands with a deep desire to walk the relationship off. Break-up is like a death. Various different stages of the recalibration process take place whether you’re ready for them or not. The practicalities of finding a new place to live, and moving your stuff out, happen alongside those moments when you spot a familiar hairstyle on the Tube and for a moment you’re convinced your ex is right there next to you. Or when walking to lunch you catch her jacket on someone else’s body and you suddenly remember folding that garment in a life
that’s now gone.

Can you ever stop loving someone? In the era of Instagram, it becomes so much harder. I found myself checking her social media to get another hit of self-inflicted grief.

Emotions, by their very nature, are irrational and unperturbed by the passage of time, which is ironic because everyone says, ‘you just need time, it’ll get better’. It does. Sitting here writing this 20 months after the break-up, I can genuinely say it no longer has the same hold on me that it once had. But it has taken its pound of flesh to get to this point. Having always been emotionally open, I embraced therapy, yoga, meditation… But nothing really readies you for the moment you find out that they have moved on. For the moment you find out they are now engaged, living in another country with a slightly less good-looking version of yourself who has a much safer set of circumstances.

Then one day, unexpectedly, in a moment of quiet solemnity, it happened. The shift was real. Tangible. My soul was refreshed, rebooted. Suddenly that unthinkable message someone sent a couple of weeks into the darkness, that ‘this too shall pass’, makes sense. And suddenly it has.

Jolyon Rubinstein is a BAFTA-winning satirist. His TV show, Ministry Of Justice,

What’s Next for Calvin Klein Following Raf Simons Split?

The much ballyhooed Calvin Klein-Raf Simons marriage has ended in divorce — and now observers wonder what’s next for the iconic American fashion brand, and whether it can flourish without the “halo” of a designer collection.
As reported, the tie-up between Klein and Simons came to an abrupt — but not unexpected — end Friday night when Calvin Klein Inc. sent out a terse press release at 6:17 p.m., right before the Christmas holiday weekend, stating the company and Simons, who was chief creative officer, had “amicably decided to part ways.” The statement said that Klein has decided on a new brand direction which differs from Simons’ creative vision — but provided no details on what that new direction is.
Calvin Klein will not be having a fashion show during New York Fashion Week in February (it had been scheduled for Feb. 12 at 8 p.m.), and the company will now have to figure out how to move forward after the pricey, multimillion dollar experiment with Simons went bust after a mere 28 months, and eight months before the end of a three-year deal with the Belgian designer.

Podcast: KHN’s ‘What The Health?’ Split Decision On Health Care

Voters on Election Day gave control of the U.S. House to the Democrats but kept the U.S. Senate Republican. That will mean Republicans will no longer be able to pursue partisan changes to the Affordable Care Act or Medicare. But it also may mean that not much else will get done that does not have broad bipartisan support.

Then the day after the election, the Trump administration issued rules aimed at pleasing its anti-abortion backers. One would make it easier for employers to exclude birth control as a benefit in their insurance plans. The other would require health plans on the ACA exchanges that offer abortion as a covered service to bill consumers separately for that coverage.

This week’s panelists for KHN’s “What the Health?” are Julie Rovner of Kaiser Health News, Rebecca Adams of CQ Roll Call, Margot Sanger-Katz of The New York Times and Joanne Kenen of Politico.

Among the takeaways from this week’s podcast:

  • The Trump administration’s new contraception coverage rule comes after an earlier, stricter regulation was blocked by federal courts.
  • The insurance bills that the Trump administration is now requiring marketplace plans to send to customers for abortion coverage will be for such a small amount of money that they could become a nuisance and may persuade insurers to give up on the benefit.
  • House Democrats, when they take control in January, say they want to move legislation that will allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices. But fiscal experts say that may not have a big impact on costs unless federal officials are willing to limit the number of drugs that Medicare covers.
  • It appears that both Democrats and Republicans in Congress are interested in doing something to protect consumers from surprise medical bills. The issue, however, may fall to the back of the line given all the more pressing issues that Congress will face.
  • One of the big winners Tuesday was Medicaid. Three states approved expanding their programs, and in several other states new governors are interested in advancing legislation that would expand Medicaid.

Plus, for extra credit, the panelists recommend their favorite health stories of the week they think you should read, too:
