6 spring/summer 2019 trends you can wear now

Another season of London Fashion Week has come to a close, and whilst Milan and Paris are yet to come, the main spring/summer 2019 fashion trends are starting to emerge.

Designers like Roksanda, Rejina Pyo and Alexa Chung are leading the way, with trends that we’re excited about for next year. So excited about actually, that we’re going to start wearing them now. Here’s how:

Suits

Left to right: JW Anderson, Eudon Choi, Alexa Chung

Oversized, fitted, 70s style or more retro, pastel-coloured or checked… suits were all over the catwalk at LFW, from Alexa Chung to Eudon Choi and JW Anderson. There is literally a style to suit every personality, and of course the beauty of them is that they’re the perfect transitional piece. Wear them now with a silk blouse or rollneck and ankle boots.

Neon

Left to right: Natasha Zinko, House of Holland, Rejina Pyo

Love it or hate it, you just can’t dismiss neon next season, it’s literally everywhere. At NYFW, Jeremy Scott backed the lime green hue, while Naeem Khan and Sies Marjan flashed a bit of orange and pink. Over in London, House of Holland was all about neon, while Natasha Zinko closed the week with fluro green and yellow. Dip into it now with accessories to lift a monochrome outfit.

Puff sleeves

Left to right: Richard Quinn, Rejina Pyo, Christopher Kane

Go big or go home is the motto for SS18, well, when it comes to sleeves at least. I’ve loved them at Rejina Pyo on maxi tea dresses, at Richard Quinn on overcoats and shirts at Christopher Kane. The message is clear: go big or go home.

Pink

Left to right: Emilia Wickstead, Roksanda, Erdem

Millennial pink might have been put on the back-burner with the arrival of sunshine yellow, but it’s very much back in the limelight for spring. Emilia Wickstead, Erdem, Roksanda and Delpozo were just a few of the many designers to make us see la vie en rose.

Sheer layering

Left to right: Rejina Pyo, Erdem, Delpozo

Dare to bare for SS19, as sheer tulle and lace are taking over. Think see-through jackets at Rejina or OTT tulle at Roksanda and Simone Rocha. Th key is to layer: wear a sheer shirt this season, under a corduroy blazer to protect your modesty.

Bows

Left to right: Preen, Roksanda, Emilia Wickstead

Last season it was polka dots, and for SS19 the ladylike detail of choice is bows aplenty. They ranged from discreet finishing touches at Preen and Roksanda, to bold and oversized and Emilia Wickstead. We want more.

Umbro & Christopher Raeburn Debut Deconstructed Soccer Gear for Spring/Summer 2018

Progressive designer Christopher Raeburn joins forces with Umbro for an assortment of deconstructed soccer gear. Repurposing iconic Umbro sportswear from 1996-2010, the collection slices retro shirts into new garments, like jackets, sweaters and shorts.

The original shirts were selected for their relevance in British soccer history, like the ’98 World Cup kits worn when rookie Michael Owen hit a breakthrough goal against Argentina and the pair of kits from 2002’s World Cup 5-1 victory against Munich. Raeburn’s new creations offer aggressively rearranged numbers, patterns, logos and colors, with bits of each jersey splattered haphazardly across each garment all while maintaining England’s key white, red, orange and black colors throughout. Completing the collection is a backpack and soccer ball, both offering complementarily patchwork detailing.

Look for the goods to hit Umbro and Christopher Raeburn’s web stores today. For more elevated soccer wearables, check out BEAMS’s selection of collaborative adidas jerseys.

How to update your checks for spring/summer

Hit refresh

You may think of checks as being strictly winter-only, but let me tell you they’re not going anywhere for SS18, if the catwalk is anything to go by.

There were folksy ginghams at Loewe, sweet red and blue plaids at Alexander McQueen, beautiful bright shopper-bag checks at Mary Katrantzou and a whole show of them at Fendi – even down to checked tights (check out – no pun intended – our full SS18 trends report for more inspo).

But where the print came in prim shades of mustard, brown and grey for autumn/winter, it’s getting a fresh burst of colour for the new season.

In fact, the easiest way to upgrade the print is to wear it in a primary colour, a nice nod to another huge trend: crayola brights, you might even want to pick a shorts suit to tick off another trend.

However, if you’re looking for something less corporate, you still can’t go wrong with a checked blazer (wear with high-waist jeans, and a white t-shirt), and we’re loving Clueless-style tartan mini skirts (wear with a puff-sleeve shirt).

For the more fashion-forward amongst you, try double-checking: a tartan jumpsuit over gingham shirt for example. Finish the look off with a sling-back sculptural heel for an office-appropriate yet on-trend look.

NEIGHBORHOOD Creatively Blends Military, Sportswear & Workwear for Spring/Summer 2018

Following up on its collaborative collection alongside Burton revealed last month, NEIGHBORHOOD starts 2018 strong by unveiling images of its upcoming spring/summer range. The streetwear imprint incorporates military, heritage workwear and sportswear elements throughout — creating a lineup as diverse and functional as is stylish.

Lightweight outerwear plays a pivotal role, as bombers, field jackets, chore coats, coach silhouettes, denim trucker styles, amongst others, come to the forefront. Although design details remain subtle, typography, patchwork, and prints surface now and again, not to mention a small capsule from the brand’s Specimen Research Laboratory line. The collection will be arriving at select retailers in the coming weeks. Visit NEIGHBORHOOD’s website for a comprehensive look at the collection.

Check out the lookbook above and for more style news, here is a closer look at the PACCBET x Carhartt WIP collection.
