London Fashion Week 2017: The SS18 looks we need in our lives

Hot off the runway!

New York Fashion Week 2017 started off fashion month in absolute style, setting the bar for London Fashion Week very high indeed.

But, while Victoria Beckham dazzled us with her sequin shoes, now it’s London’s turn to shine – and is it me, or is London owning fashion this season?

First off, Tommy Hilfiger is finally showing in London, after shows in Los Angeles and New York, and bringing Gigi Hadid along, obvs.

And everyone is talking about Emporio Armani, which will show in the capital for the first time since 2006, to coincide with the unveiling of the revampled flagship store on Bond Street (Giorgo told WWD, that the ‘dynamic, energetic and cosmopolitan London’ was ‘the perfect setting for my Emporio Armani collection’).

Now onto the shows that have taken place: Molly Goddard brought anarchy to the catwalk, where models decked in tulle and glitter sipped on champagne and smoked cigarettes.

Burberry did not disappoint, as Marie Claire Fashion Director Jayne Pickering says, ‘It was a fresh new start for them, more punky than normal, sporty with a sharper edge. I loved the clash of colours, the softness of the romantic dresses and the edgier high heels with socks. The casting was incredible too, with Kaia Gerber taking centre stage.’

Proof if proof were needed that Kaia is turning into the face of the season.

Meanwhile, Gareth Pugh pushed boundaries  with his film. Jess Wood, Fashion Features Director, gives her verdict, ‘His visceral and in some places grotesque film directed by Nick Knight, featured sinister characters clawing at each other with clay split the fashion pack – some shuddered and some thrilled.’

Simone Rocha presented a show based on her childhood dolls (her ‘strongest show ever’ says Jess).

Now it wouldn’t be Fashion Week without a bit of drama, and this season showgoers had to be escorted by police into shows including Gareth P and Burberry (delaying it by 15 mins) due to protesters.

LFW always attracts a squad of fashion critics-turned-influencers like no other – think Alexander Fury,  Hilary Alexander and Susie Menkes. There’s no doubt about it, London is #winning this season.

Plus (don’t say we don’t spoil you), see which celebrities are sitting front row at the shows in our gallery here. NYFW saw Cindy Crawford, Karlie Kloss and Olivia Palermo grace the FROW, so expect a good line-up.
