[Updated] Chicago Police Say New Evidence Suggests Jussie Smollett Paid Two Men to Orchestrate His Assault + Jussie’s Attorneys Release a Statement

Chicago Police believe Jussie Smollett paid two men, brothers Abimbola “Abel” and Olabinjo “Ola” Osundair to orchestrate the assault he initially said was a racist, homophobic attack.

via CNN:

Two law enforcement sources with knowledge of the investigation told CNN that Chicago Police believe Jussie Smollett paid two men to orchestrate the assault.

The brothers, who were arrested Wednesday, were released without charges Friday after Chicago police cited the discovery of “new evidence.” The sources told CNN that the two men are now cooperating fully with law enforcement.

Smollett told authorities he was attacked early January 29 by two men who were “yelling out racial and homophobic slurs.” He said one attacker put a rope around his neck and poured an unknown chemical substance on him.

The sources told CNN that there are records that show the two brothers purchased the rope found around Smollett’s neck at an Ace Hardware store in Chicago.

Smollett gave his first detailed account of what he says was a hate crime against him, and the aftermath, in an interview with “Good Morning America” that aired Thursday. During the interview he expressed frustration at not being believed.

“It feels like if I had said it was a Muslim or a Mexican or someone black I feel like the doubters would have supported me a lot much more,” Smollett said. “And that says a lot about the place where we are as a country right now.”

CNN’s attempts to reach both Smollett’s representative and attorney Saturday were unsuccessful.

Wow. Story developing…

Update: TMZ spoke to law enforcement sources of their own. One law enforcement source tells TMZ at least one of the brothers turned over his phone and there is a call between him and Jussie in the vicinity of the “attack,” but before it happened.

Update #2: Jussie’s attorneys has released a statement denying all claims he orchestrated his own attack.

Gwyneth Paltrow just made an emotional statement about Chris Martin

‘It doesn’t have to be the end of your relationship with somebody’

Ever since Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin announced their split in 2013, they have been very upfront about their relationship, the difficulties of divorce and the importance of family – something that was addressed this week.

The former couple, who wed in 2003, issued their separation announcement on the Goop website 10 years after tying the knot, introducing us to the term ‘consciously uncoupling’.

‘It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate,’ the couple wrote in their statement. ‘We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.’

The statement concluded: ‘We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time.’

Since announcing the news, both Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have moved on while successfully remaining close friends, extending the olive branch to each other’s new partners and making a conscious effort to stay a family for life’s key moments.

Gwyneth went one step further this weekend, baffling the internet as she insisted that her and Chris Martin were ‘meant’ to have their time together.

‘It doesn’t have to be the end of your relationship with somebody,’ the 46-year-old said of the break up in a recent interview with ES magazine. ’I think Chris and I were meant to be together and have our kids. But our relationship is much better like this: friends and co-parents and family.’

Well, that’s that.

A new outfit from Veronica Popoiacu of Bittersweet Colours, whom we introduced to YLF in August 2013.

Veronica’s love affair with dresses continues unabated. Here she’s sporting a romantic vintage dress with a turquoise, white and black floral print that accentuates her slim waist. The pussycat-bow neckline emphasizes the retro vibe of the dress, while the elegant, just-below-the-knee length looks marvelous with the tall boots. Veronica’s amazing statement stacked boots add lots of crisp pizzazz to the look, and echo the white in the floral pattern. The dressy midi coat in a darker shade of turquoise is a great length to wear with on-trend midi dresses. And leave it to Veronica to find a colour-blocked satchel that perfectly matches the colours of her outfit!

Statement on NUHW Strike

As you may know, the National Union of Healthcare Workers, the union representing mental health workers at Kaiser Permanente, has called for a five-day strike this week.

We want our members and patients to know that during this strike, we are working hard to deliver high-quality care and services. All our hospitals and medical offices are open. Anyone in need of urgent mental health or other care will receive the services they require, although some non-urgent services are being rescheduled. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this unnecessary strike.

It’s particularly disheartening that union leadership would call this strike during the holiday season, when many of our patients with mental health needs may be at their most vulnerable.

Alongside our therapists, Kaiser Permanente has been on a path to be the best mental health and addiction care program in the nation. The quality of the care we provide has been recognized by the state’s Office of the Patient Advocate, and by national quality organizations. We don’t think there is any other organization that is doing more than we are to make mental health care better in the United States. We are committed to doing even more, to innovate, to advance care, and to continually seek to improve what we do.

We have been hiring therapists, increasing our staff by 30 percent since 2015 – that’s more than 500 new therapists in California – even though there’s a national shortage. We’ve invested $ 175 million to expand and improve ourmental health care offices, to provide environments that offer our patients convenience, comfort and privacy.

Kaiser Permanente is the highest paying employer for mental health workers in California. The union is demanding wage increases that would be even higher.

Across Kaiser Permanente in Northern California, the majority of psychologists earn $ 138,000 or more, and the majority of social workers earn $ 111,000 or more. In Southern California, the majority of psychologists earn $ 135,000 or more, and the majority of social workers earn $ 109,000 or more.

The union’s principal demands at the bargaining table have not been about improving care and access. Rather, in addition to seeking even higher wages and benefits, the union is demanding changes to performance standards that would reduce, not increase, the availability of mental health care for our patients.

  • The union wants to reduce the amount of time caregivers spend seeing patients, from an average of 75 percent of time they agreed to in 2015. This would mean fewer appointments for our patients.
  • Even though there is a shortage of caregivers, the union wants to stop Kaiser Permanente from working with highly qualified community therapists to ensure access to care for our patients.
  • Even worse, the union is discouraging community-based caregivers from treating our patients during this strike. In the union’s words, they are trying to “shut down mental health services” this week. This is irresponsible and dangerously insensitive to people in need of care.
  • And in full disclosure: we are seeking no takeaways in our contract proposal. We are offering wage increases which would keep our expert therapists among the best compensated in their profession, and continue to ensure that we attract and retain the most highly skilled professionals.

Despite the union leadership’s tactics, we are committed to responsibly reaching a new contract agreement. We value our therapists and are calling on them to talk to their union leadership and urge them to bargain constructively, and stop putting our patients in the middle of their contract demands.

Kevin Hart released a truly awful statement about his homophobic tweets

TwitterFacebook

We live in the golden age of bad non-apologies, but Kevin Hart’s response to recent backlash over resurfaced homophobic jokes might take the cake.

“Stop looking for reasons to be negative… Stop searching for reasons to be angry,” Hart wrote in his Instagram, along with a grainy video of him shirtless expressing the same sentiments.

For those playing catch up: On Wednesday, Hart was announced as the host of the 2019 Oscars. Within hours, concerns were raised online that resurfaced a litany of (now-deleted) tweets.

One described how, if he ever saw his son playing with his daughter’s doll house, “I’m going 2 break it over his head and say n my voice ‘stop that’s gay.'” Others included him using homophobic slurs against other people. Read more…
