Kaiser Permanente Hawaii Names Shawn Nakamoto Director of Strategic Communications

HONOLULU — Kaiser Permanente Hawaii today announced Shawn Nakamoto has been hired as director of Strategic Communications. In this position, Nakamoto will lead the design, execution and management of all communications related to Kaiser Permanente Hawaii’s strategic plan, organizational effectiveness and care delivery. She will also provide guidance and support to the regional executive team, and will oversee communications planning and implementation for Kaiser Permanente Hawaii’s strategic programs and projects.

Nakamoto comes to Kaiser Permanente from the University of Hawaii, where she most recently served as associate director of communications. She was responsible for communications, media relations, marketing, advertising, special events and community relations for the University of Hawaii system. Before working at the University of Hawaii, Nakamoto held communications and marketing management positions at the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, Hawaii Pacific Health and Kamehameha Schools.

“Shawn has been an extremely effective communications strategist and leader throughout her career,” said David Tumilowicz, vice president for Public Relations, Communications and Brand Management for Kaiser Permanente Hawaii. “I’m looking forward to working closely with Shawn to engage our workforce and better serve our large and growing membership throughout Hawaii.”

Nakamoto is an active member of the local community. She serves on the boards of Catholic Charities of Hawaii, Project Focus Hawaii and the Public Relations Society of America Hawaii Chapter. Nakamoto earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and is currently completing a master’s degree in communications from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
