Watch Saturday Night Live Try and Fail to Pay Tribute to Game of Thrones on Season Finale

Everything was set for a flashy rap tribute to Game of Thrones on the 44th season finale of Saturday Night Live — high-end lighting, Pete Davidson with a gold chain, even a surprise appearance from Jacob Anderson, who plays Grey Worm on the hit TV show.

But when it came time to lay down some verses, the results were … uninspired.

“Jon Snow, dragons, lotsa wolves, blue zombies, armor clothes, silver swords that extendo, prostitute houses, lotsa wine and a big *** wall,” Davidson rapped. “Never miss an episode. There’s hobbits and toads. Magic and muggles, I assume some crows.”

As it turned out, Davidson had never actually seen the show.

“Look, Pete, you don’t have to do a rap about Game of Thrones just because it’s the most popular show in the world right now,” said longtime cast member Kenan Thompson.

That’s when things got weird. With free reign to sing about his actual favorite show, Davidson, along with special guests DJ Khaled and Paul Rudd, performed an extended rap about Netflix’s Grace and Frankie instead.

“Better than Game of Thrones,” rapped DJ Khaled. “Grace and Frankie. They’re different but they’re friends. It’s a nice show,” he sang later, paying homage to the Netflix series starring Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda.

The season finale also kicked off with a musical cold open, which featured Alec Baldwin returning as President Trump, joining several cast members — and Robert De Niro — in a parody rendition of the Queen song “Don’t Stop Me Now.”

“I’m very excited about summer, getting around to those things I never have time for.” Baldwin-as-Trump said before the musical number started. “Golf, visiting friends in prison, and enjoying all the fantastic new tariffs from China.”

“Wait a second,” said De Niro as Robert Mueller later on. “I have something very important to say to the American people. Something they need to hear.”

“No collusion, no obstruction,” Baldwin’s Trump jumped in.

Lady Antebellum pay tribute to Niall Horan at London gig

OHMYGOSSIP — Lady Antebellum showed their appreciation for Niall Horan by performing ‘Slow Hands’ at their London concert on Saturday (09.03.19).
The group were headlining the annual Country To Country music festival at The O2 when they called support acts Hunter Hayes and Carly Pearce on stage to join them for a new rendition of the Irish One Direction star’s solo hit.
The performance came just one night after Keith Urban and his guitarist sang the chorus of ‘Slow Hands’ at Keith’s headlining C2C show at The O2.
Lady Antebellum opened their concert with a number of fan favourites, including ‘I Run To You’, ‘Hey Bartender’, ‘Heart Break’ and ‘American Honey’.
Charles Kelley then ran into the crowd to sing Elvis Presley’s ‘Suspicious Minds’ before talking about his Irish roots.
After taking a swig from a fan’s cider, he said: “I’m not going to lie, every time I come over here I rediscover my affinity for Guinness. I know this isn’t Ireland, though. My last name is Kelley and I’ve never done one of those DNA tests but I’m pretty sure I’ve got some Irish in me.”
Things then got emotional as Charles opened up about the “interesting journey” he has been on over the past year and thanked his bandmates Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood for never giving up on him.
He said: “This past year I got back in touch with my spirituality and I sing some songs completely differently now.
“I’ve gone thorough an interesting journey this year, finding out who I am.”
Speaking directly to Hillary and Dave, he said: “I’m so glad you never gave up on me. There were times where I might have been hard to be in a band with. I’m pretty Type A.”
After his emotional speech, Charles introduced new song ‘Be Patient With My Love’, which he dedicated to his wife of 10 years Cassie, along with his “work wife and work brother”.
‘Country To Country’ continues on Sunday (10.03.19) with a headline performance from Chris Stapleton.

Here Are the Reasons People Believe the Super Bowl Halftime Show Could Bless Fans With a SpongeBob SquarePants Tribute

Thanks to some hints floating around the internet from Maroon 5 and others, SpongeBob SquarePants fans have high hopes that the famous cartoon character might be making a Super Bowl LIII cameo.

One main reason for the theory comes down to a brief appearance of the Pineapple-Under-the-Sea-dwelling creature in a tweeted video that Maroon 5, the headlining Super Bowl 2019 Half Time performers, shared earlier in January. About 30 seconds in, a cryptic, brief snippet of SpongeBob appears.

The SpongeBob fan theories

While SpongeBob and Maroon 5 don’t normally have any particular connection, SpongeBob does have a song — “Sweet Victory” — that was performed in a season two episode of the show called “Band Geeks” by the Bikini Bottom Super Band. Longtime fans think this means “Sweet Victory” may end up on Maroon 5’s set list, or in some other way SpongeBob will be involved in the Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show.

While there’s currently no confirmation one way or another, it’s worth noting that many responses to Maroon 5’s video teaser are related to the potential for a SpongeBob song cameo. And the SpongeBob snapshot in the video is the only cartoon that appears: the rest of the footage is clips of the band’s preparations and performances and hints of Travis Scott and Big Boi, two rappers who will also be featured at the show.

The Episode

There’s more to it, too: a Change.org petition was set up earlier in January calling for a “Sweet Victory” tribute at the Super Bowl. It’s collected nearly 1.2 million signatures so far. The reason? To honor SpongeBob creator Stephen Hillenburg, who passed away in November last year.

The GIF

In another bump for the theory, Mercedes-Benz Stadium’s Twitter account even shared a GIF of SpongeBob dancing in his band outfit all the way back in December, adding fuel to fans’ fire about the potential cameo.

The Bet

People are even betting on it — literally. The odds, according to an online betting pool, are in favor of SpongeBob appearing at the Super Bowl, in particular popping up in an inflatable costume.

In another more under-the-radar hint, according to CNET, Rodger Bumpass, the voice actor behind the character of Squidward, reportedly posted on Facebook that he was going to be making some kind of Super Bowl introduction for the Halftime Show.

SpongeBob fans, at least, were convinced.

Louis Vuitton Designer Virgil Abloh Pays Tribute To Michael Jackson At Paris Fashion Week

PARIS (AP) — Louis Vuitton’s designer Virgil Abloh transported celebrity guests at Paris Fashion Week to the graffitied streets of New York in a dramatic menswear ode to Michael Jackson.

Abloh, the first African-American to head a major European fashion house, used his unique platform Thursday to celebrate one of America’s most globally recognized and celebrated black performers.

Here are some highlights of Thursday’s fall-winter shows.

LOUIS VUITTON GOES OFF THE WALL

Model Naomi Campbell and actors Timothee Chalamet and Joel Edgerton seemed amazed to discover a reconstructed cityscape that evoked the King of Pop’s famed music videos, all inside the Tuileries Gardens.

A young, skinny actor resembling the late Jackson as a boy drew applause as he ran and danced across the impressive set of a poor New York neighborhood.

No detail was spared.

Guests clutched their show invites that comprised a single bejeweled white glove, as their eyes were led past a Chinese business store, New York street signs, sidewalks littered with dead leaves, and a barber shop ending at a saxophonist playing on the street.

Campbell nodded to the beat of the soundtrack — an infectious checklist of Jackson’s greatest hits that had some humming well after the show had ended.

“It’s Michael Jackson. My hero,” she exclaimed.

VUITTON’S ABLOH REVISITS JACKSON

It was the flamboyance of Michael Jackson as seen through the classical prism of Louis Vuitton.

The silhouettes of some of the late star’s most eye-popping looks were taken by Abloh and revisited in a slightly more pared-down style.

A military jacket and large sash — that might have come across overly showy — were designed in a tasteful pearl-gray monochrome cashmere.

Elsewhere, a giant cropped jacket with stiff padded lapels was saved from excess with soft charcoal flannel twill.

The signature layering of the singer, who died in 2009, was ubiquitous in the 64-piece parade that went from the subtle to the not so subtle toward the end.

An overlaid silver parka coat in aluminum foil leather and a silver safety vest were among the most literal of the Jackson odes and recalled some of his most spectacular concert performances, as did the models who wore jeweled gloves.

Later in the show, Abloh made a series of prints based on a cartoon in Jackson’s 1978 film “The Wiz” that became a cult classic among black audiences.

Abloh called his hero, Jackson, “the universal symbol of unity on the planet.” Though touching, the collection could have perhaps done without the scarf shirts fashioned out of global flags that came across as a tad busy and somewhat obvious.

RICK OWENS BLOWS A KISS

A brooding and saucy mood overtook lauded American designer Rick Owens in a 70s-style collection Thursday.

The show was entitled “Larry,” after U.S. designer Larry LeGaspi, whose silver and black space looks were worn by rock groups such as Kiss.

The fall-winter show was very much an homage to the bombastic styles of LeGaspi, about whom Owens has written a book.

Tan, sienna, deep vermillion and lashings of black in the clothes were highlighted by sensually dappled lighting.

Excess was simply everywhere.

Enveloping retro shades, peaked shoulders, oversized sleeves, flares and David Bowie-style tight waists set the time-dial very much to the era of Glam Rock.

As if that weren’t enough, Owens pushed the envelope further with painted white faces and inset leather appliques that resembled women’s genitals. They contrasted purity with provocation.

LeGaspi “helped set a lot of kids like me free with his mix of art-deco sexual ambiguity,” Owens said.

ISSEY MIYAKE BRINGS THE WIND

The Franco-Japanese house of Issey Miyake put on a collection in homage to the wind.

In the fall-winter silhouettes, it was not the wind of an angry storm at work, but more a gentle breeze that served to curve and soften the clothes’ shapes.

The result was a low-key affair by designer Yoshiyuki Miyamae.

A welcome sharpness did appear in the collection via its print detailing, but its power was diluted by the rounded shapes.

For instance, some jagged yellow diagonal motifs evoked the strong movement of wind — but the looseness of the suits and coats on which they appeared lessened the effect.

The prints were conceived by an Asian wax resistant dyeing technique called batik that the house frequently uses. Issey Miyake is one house that cannot be faulted for its use of cutting-edge fashion-making methods.

Elsewhere, another Asian technique, ikat — a sort of tie-dye — was employed to produce the collection’s strongest pieces.

A silk-wool series sported beautifully defused white horizontal bands across icy blue-gray pants and shimmering coats.

Unfortunately, someone leaked the story before we could make everyone aware of his passing, and I apologize to those friends and family members for finding out through social outlets. I also apologize directly to the Solis Family. I do humbly ask for your prayers for our families, but my greatest request is that when you are posting comments, remember Gabe’s passing is a loss for our family. Here’s How LeBron James and the Lakers Paid Tribute to the Thousand Oaks Shooting Victims

In the wake of the mass shooting at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, Calif., that claimed the lives of 12 people last week, the Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks paid tribute to the victims with warmup shirts that read “ENOUGH.”

Following in the footsteps of both the Los Angeles Clippers and the Milwaukee Bucks, the two teams wore shirts with “ENOUGH” printed on the front and the 12 victims’ names on the back ahead of their Sunday game at the Staples Center. The names of the victims were also read over the PA system before a moment of silence leading up to the national anthem, according to Uproxx.

Newly minted Laker LeBron James, who previously wore an “I Can’t Breathe” shirt in 2014 in solidarity with protestors rallying against a grand jury’s decision not to indict the police officer involved in the death of Eric Garner, also took to Twitter to express his grief over the shooting.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost loved ones last night in Thousand Oaks, CA!!!!” he wrote, adding the hashtag .

Anthony Bourdain’s Final Episode: A Touching Tribute to Fellow New York Misfits

David Scott Holloway

It would have been easy to make the final posthumous episode of Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown a sentimental tribute to the late host. And in fact, CNN did air such an episode, featuring interviewers with friends and admirers a few weeks ago. But instead, this Sunday night’s series finale, set in New York’s Lower East Side, is an almost entirely selfless examination of the artists who shaped Bourdain’s life during the early days of his restaurant career.

Mostly absent from the episode is food, aside from a chocolate egg cream here and a a bowl of soup at Veselka there. Instead of interviewing chefs, Bourdain visits a series of once revolutionary punk rockers, performance artists and experimental filmmakers who are trying to figure out a way to maintain relevance in the 21st century.

Bride Who Wed in Hospital So Ailing Father Could Walk Her Down Aisle Launches Tribute Foundation

Last November, Vieneese Stanton was on top of the world as her father, Preston Rolan, walked her down the aisle at University of California, San Francisco Medical Center where she wed Douglas Stanton.

Less than a month later, Rolan died from acute myeloid leukemia, leaving Vieneese devastated. Now the 28-year-old new mother is determined to preserve her father’s memory through her newly-minted Stanton Standards Foundation.

“A lot of people connected to us after they saw our wedding story go viral, and having my dad be there for us. So we started thinking, like, what if we could do the same thing for other families? UCSF hospital really put in a lot of effort to make that day happen for us… So we thought, ‘What if we formed an organization like that for people?’ ”

So, they did. They launched the organization to provide lasting memories for family members that have a loved one with a terminal illness. By May of this year, the foundation was officially established as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.

RELATED: California Bride Weds in Hospital So Dying Father Can Walk Her Down the Aisle

With that, the Stantons got to work. The foundation’s first helped Yvonne, who has a heart condition and has about a year left to live. Through the foundation, Vieneese and Douglas raised hundreds of dollars to treat Yvonne and her close friends and family to a nice dinner at Oakland’s Southern Cafe.

“We hosted a rose ceremony where we bought her two bouquets of roses and we had her family and friends go around and they each gave her a rose. We really believe in giving people their roses while we can still smell them,” she says.

“They shared with Yvonne their greatest memories with her. They reminisced on good times they had with her and she was able to really enjoy those moments. “That’s something that’s always done at funerals.”

RELATED: Cancer Patient Who Walked Daughter Down the Aisle in Hospital Wedding Dies: ‘I’ve Lost My Superman’

The couple shared smiling photos of Yvonne Barela with her friends and family on the foundation’s website. And Vieneese says she’s eager to create lasting memories for more families in the future.

The foundation is accepting donations on its website and through a GoFundMe page set up for the organization.

“We really want to be a reliable resource when a family says, ‘We have a loved one who’s about to pass away. Are you able to help us?’ We want to say yes. We don’t want to tell them to wait six months,” Vieneese tells PEOPLE.

“We really want to be proactive because with terminal illness time is limited. We want to be there for the families because we believe that helps with the mourning process. I can speak for myself when I say that. I miss my dad like crazy. I think my father would be ecstatic if he were here today.”

Vieneese’s story made headlines last year, as photos of her with her ailing father made their way around the Internet. In the months after Rolan’s death, Vieneese and Douglas welcomed their first child, now 6-month-old Noelle.

“I miss my dad like crazy. Being a parent for the first time and not having my parents has been emotional at times,” she says, alluding to her late mother. “My daughter is awesome and my husband is awesome. Together we’re pushing through it.”
