Jordyn Woods Shares Her Truth On Red Table Talk [WATCH]

“Take your medicine and tell your truth.”

Jordyn Woods‘s family ties are more than just being a best friend to Kylie Jenner. Before she was even born, her father and Will Smith became friends as he worked on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. In the wake of the scandal that occurred between her, Tristan Thompson and Khloe Kardashian, Woods made her first public appearing speaking out about the saga on Jada Pinkett Smith‘s Red Table Talk show on Facebook Watch.

On What Happened That Night:

“Tristan was there at the party, he was doing his own thing. Normal LA culture is, go to the bar, go to the club … you go to someones house after. The group of girls I was with, they said we’re going to Tristan’s house after. I said, ‘Cool, I’m glad it’s his house rather than a random stranger.’ We pull in, not once was I aware of anyone’s phone or anything, I don’t have anything to hide. I have no clue who told them to take away phones. We’re all dancing and drinking and enjoying our time … I’m not thinking that I shouldn’t be here. That’s my first step where I went wrong. I didn’t think, ‘How would I feel if somebody I knew was hanging at my ex’s house or the father of my child’s house?” I should have gone home after the party.

The night’s going on and never once was I making out with him, sitting all over him, giving him a lap dance. Never once did we leave a public area, go to a bedroom or go to the bathroom. I want people to stand up and be accountable but I don’t want anyone to feel what I’m feeling right now. I didn’t have my arm around him but my legs were laying right over him. He didn’t try to make a move on me or take me to any room.”

On What Happened The Next Morning:

“I allowed myself to be there and I wasn’t belligerently drunk to a blackout moment. I was drunk, I was not tipsy but I was not beyond the point of recollection. But, on the way out … he did kiss me. No passion, no nothing, he just kissed me. A kiss on the lips. But no making out, no kiss with tongue. I didn’t know how to feel! I was like, ‘That didn’t just happen.’ And I got in the car and I was like, ‘No, that didn’t happen.’”

Talking To Khloe And Kylie:

“I told them I was there, and I told them that there were girls there but they weren’t all over him or he wasn’t trying to get with them. I wasn’t honest about everything that had taken place. I know I was trying to protect Khloe’s heart. She doesn’t deserve this either. I’m no home wrecker, I would never try to hurt someone’s home, especially someone I love. I’m not trying to steal someone’s man, I don’t need your situation.”

On Whether Or Not She’s The Reason Tristan And Khloe Aren’t Together:

“I know I’m not the reason they broke up. I never slept with him, and never will I. There’s been no communication with him, no relationship prior to this. No plans of meeting up. No conversation, nothing.”

On Being Bullied:

“The crazy things is the arms that I thought would be around me are nowhere to be found. The first few days after this, I couldn’t look at my phone. Every day it’s a new headline, a new person wishing death upon me or telling me, ‘Your father deserved to die.’ I may have done something wrong but I don’t think I ever did something to deserve this. If I were a weak person, I would probably have hurt myself. Everyone’s safety is now … my brother can’t got to work, my sister, she’s 12, she can’t even go to school. My mom, she can’t go to work. I’m not here to play the victim, I’m here to take responsibility.”

DeVon Franklin On ‘The Truth About Men,’ Working With Steph Curry and More

In a time when toxic masculinity is at the center of national dialogue, award-winning film producer and New York Times best-selling author DeVon Franklin is shifting the conversation toward finding solutions through his new book, The Truth About Men: What Men and Women Need to Know. The book, which will be released Feb. 5, takes a raw and compelling look at the struggles men wrestle with and offers a manual on how to change, love, resist temptation, and practice self-control.

The Truth About Men

Franklin says his book was inspired by a revelation he had as a teenager when he discovered that his father had cheated on his mother. “That really devastated me [and] rocked me to my core,” he told BLACK ENTERPRISE. “If my father cheated on my mother, then what does that say about me?… Does that mean the apple falls far from the tree or does it not?”

Franklin added that women in his family told him that 99% of all men cheat, which made him wonder why it was so hard for men to be faithful. “I wanted to write a book because there is so much going on in the world about men and men’s behavior,” said the motivational speaker. “I wanted to write a book about the solution.”

Franklin, who has been married to actress Meagan Good for nearly seven years, went on to admit that he, too, faces challenges. “My wife’s amazing. I love my wife, but that doesn’t mean that I have no struggles.” He continued, “The Truth About Men is identifying where we struggle as men and what can be done about it, and also giving women information along the way.” Ultimately, he says, the book is a call for men “to do better.”

Breakthrough

In addition to his new book, Franklin is gearing up for the April 2019 release of his new film, Breakthrough, which is based on a true story about a 14-year-old boy who died in a freak accident but was then resurrected back to life by his mother’s prayers. Franklin said it only took him 24 hours to convince NBA champ, Steph Curry, to sign onto the project as an executive producer. “It’s the first film that he has put his name on and that he has helped bring to the world,” he said. “It’s a blessing.”

The film will be produced by his company Franklin Entertainment, a multimedia company that produces inspirational and commercial content. The company currently has a first-look film deal with 20th Century Fox.

Before launching his own production company, Franklin served as the former senior vice president of Columbia Pictures. During his nearly 10-year tenure at Columbia, he produced box-office hits like The Pursuit of Happyness and The Karate Kid.

Diversity in Hollywood

As one of the few African American executive producers in Hollywood, Franklin spoke candidly about the lack of diversity in his industry. “The progress in Hollywood around diversity, specifically related to executives, is abysmal,” he told BE. However, he is trying to combat the issue as a newly elected member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), where he chairs the executive branch subcommittee on diversity.

“It is a systemic problem and Hollywood has yet to put a successful solution around it and I am committed to being a part of that solution because we need it.”

The Key To Success

The Seventh Day Adventist preacher credits his career success to the discipline he practices in his life. “I believe no discipline, no destiny,” he said. “Too often, when we want something, but we’re not willing to discipline ourselves to get it, we actually never achieve it.” He continued, “part of discipline is not just delaying gratification, it’s also about sacrifice.”

He added, “Discipline is critical, it’s necessary, and it’s difficult. That’s why very few do it because it requires going without…However, “in the long run, discipline will yield tremendous, powerful results.”

Why USA Gymnastics’ Bankruptcy Will Delay Abuse Survivors’ Search for the Truth

USA Gymnastics’ announcement Wednesday that it was filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection was in some ways expected. The embattled organization is currently under investigation by Congress and under threat of losing its status as the national governing body for gymnastics by the US Olympic Committee (USOC). It faces more than 100 lawsuits by gymnasts who claim that the organization failed to act to protect them against sexual abuse by Larry Nassar, who for many years was the national team doctor, even after reports of his abuse were made to USA Gymnastics officials.

Board chair Kathryn Carson said in a statement that the move is meant to “expedite resolution of claims by the Nassar survivors.” However, John Manly, the attorney who represents more than 100 of those survivors – including Olympians McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman, Kyla Ross and Jordyn Wieber – says the bankruptcy filing will delay, not speed up resolution of those lawsuits. Manly is currently taking depositions and discovery in some of those suits, which are now on hold because of the bankruptcy filing.

“If the goal is to delay, this is what you do,” he tells TIME. “We have depositions and request for other discovery and subpoenas lined up to get at the meat of what they knew and when they knew it [about the sexual abuse]. Bankruptcy stops that because there is an automatic stay on litigation.”

In its filing, USA Gymnastics lists former CEO Steve Penny, who led the organization during much of the time Nassar abused gymnasts, as the largest creditor, with a nearly $ 340,000 claim. Penny resigned in 2017 as the sexual abuse allegations mounted, and he and the organization were criticized for how they handled the abuse reports. He left USA Gymnastics with a reported $ 1 million severance, approved by the board. And in October, Penny was arrested after he was indicted on charges of tampering with evidence in the Nassar case. Texas law enforcement officials charged Penny with ordering removal of documents from USA Gymnastics’ national training center, the Karolyi Ranch, in 2016.

In her statement, Carson said that any money USA Gymnastics may owe as a result of the lawsuits — when they resume — would be covered by the organization’s insurance policies.

But those athletes with pending lawsuits will have to take yet another legal step because of USA Gymnastics’ decision to file for Chapter 11 protection. The federal bankruptcy court in Indianapolis, where the organization is based, will set a time during which all creditors must step forward and file a claim for any funds they are owed by USA Gymnastics. Creditors usually have four to six months to file these claims, and the gymnasts currently suing USA Gymnastics must also file this separate claim for any damages or recompense they feel they are owed.

From the survivors’ perspective, the delay in the litigation means they will continue to search for answers about why the organization they believed was protecting their best interests allowed Nassar to continue to treat them — at competitions, including in hotel rooms, and at training camps — even after many of them had reported his abuse to USA Gymnastics officials.

“I think USA Gymnastics thinks this is now just about money,” says Manly. “My direction from my clients is that we are not discussing money until we get the truth. The bankruptcy definitely makes it difficult; it delays things and is definitely not a win for us. But we have trial dates set, and we are moving toward trial.”

Mindy Kaling says people have trouble with “women who don’t hate themselves,” and it’s a sad truth

Mindy Kaling says people have trouble with “women who don’t hate themselves,” and it’s a sad truth

There’s no denying that Mindy Kaling is goals—she’s a show runner, actress, and best-selling author, and she seems to genuinely love the skin she’s in. Which—as she noted in a recent speech—isn’t always easy, or even encouraged, among women. During Glamour’s 2018 Women of the Year Summit on November 11th, the Mindy Project star noted that some people are “turned off” by her confidence.

“It’s not that I’m into myself,” she said. “It’s that I don’t hate myself. In my career, a lot of people have a problem with being around women who don’t hate themselves. Never hate yourself.”

We are so here for Kaling’s observation. Women are still socialized to downplay their accomplishments, to apologize before contributing in meetings, and to generally take up as little space in a room or situation as possible. And when they don’t? They’re hit with labels like “conceited,” “arrogant,” and, yes, “bitchy.” And it has got to stop.

Kaling’s advice for women looking to build their confidence and make their dreams come true is to always feel prepared. “I always just did the legwork, and it meant I never came to anything unprepared. The only reason I was able to be confident was because I literally couldn’t not be confident with the amount of research and preparation I did.”

Thank you for your wisdom, Mindy. We’re taking note.
