Outrage Over BBC’S Portrayal Of Meghan Markle As ‘Trailer Trash’ Who Wants To Kill Kate Middleton

Meghan Markle fans are outraged with the BBC over an animated show that portrayed the Duchess of Sussex as a ‘trailer trash’ American who wants to kill Kate Middleton.

The spoof comedy “Tonight with Vladimir Putin,” which airs on BBC Two, has already drawn huge criticism from viewers, Daily Mail reports.

The outlet notes that one segment titled “Meghan Markle’s Royal Sparkle” sees a darker skinned version of the newest member of the royal family take questions from the studio audience in order to “get to know you, the United British of Kingdom people.”

Markle is depicted as having violent rage towards her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge.

“What makes you angry?” an audience member asks Markle, who is voiced by actress/writer Gbemisola Ikunelo.

She replies by ranting about how Kate asked to borrow her hairbrush.

“I say no because that’s gross and then I leave my room and come back and I can tell she’s used my hairbrush anyway because it’s covered in skanky hair that’s going grey and I say, “Stay the f— out of my trailer or I’ll cut you, Kate”,” she shouts back according to the Sun.

Meghan’s relationship with her father Thomas Markle is also mocked on the show, the report states.

Ikunelo has defended her portrayal of Markle, telling the Telegraph that she wrote the skit to reflect the opposite of the “incredibly agreeable and friendly” Meghan.

“I was interested in finding humor in the ridiculous… What if somebody who seems super lovely in public actually has a really mean streak? What would that look like?,” she explained.

A BBC spokesperson said: “Viewers will clearly recognize this performance as a spoof and highly satirical, within the context of a program which lampoons a wide range of public figures and the public’s perception of them.”

Reaction to Meghan being classified as a ‘trailer trash’ American has been heavily criticized on social media.

Twitter user Anita Singh said: “This genuinely might be the worst thing the BBC has ever put on TV. Apart from the baffling decision to include the Meghan Markle stuff, it is less funny than Mrs Brown’s Boys.”

Georgia-Lee Cleland wrote: “@BBC so darker skin equals trash? Even though it’s the white side of her family that exemplify “trailer trash” narrative.”

Ronald James Wallace slammed the BBC, calling for the license fee to be scrapped.

“Yet more evidence of the poor standards we have to put up with from the BBC. The sooner the licence fee is scrapped and they have to raise their own funds the better!,” he said.

“The @RoyalFamily would NEVER allow a comedy show with Kate as the baddie who threatens to knife another royal but yet they are cool with the @BBC show about Meghan portraying the stereotypes that white people have for black women like aggressive & intimidating,” wrote Connie_1990.

Kristina Rihanoff wants marriage – but not just yet

OHMYGOSSIP — Kristina Rihanoff says marriage to Ben Cohen is still “a couple of years” away.
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro – who met the rugby star while they were performing on the 11th series of the BBC’s ballroom competition in 2013 – has two-year-old daughter Mila with her beau, but there are no wedding bells just yet.
Speaking to Hello magazine, she said: “It will probably be in a couple of years. Hopefully we’ll gather the family round and it’ll happen.”
For now, the loved up pair are focused on their work and family, and Kristina described her partner as “the best dad in the world” for their kid.
She added: “Ben is the best dad in the world. Mila is such a daddy’s girl and she’s always on the go.
“She doesn’t stop. She goes to rugby class, and also to dance and yoga with me. She’s a very active girl.”
Meanwhile Kristina, 41, previously admitted would “love” to return to ‘Strictly’ in a judging role at some point, but doesn’t feel ready to be in the hot seat just yet despite the recent exit of Dame Darcey Bussell.
She said: “Of course I would love to be a judge. But I don’t see myself in that role yet … I think the panel needs another woman and someone from a different background to ballroom dancing, someone from street dancing or a commercial dancing background, who is also a professional dancer and perhaps a judge.”
However, she believes bosses could go for an unknown dancer for the judging role because ‘Strictly’ “makes everybody a household name”.
Reflecting on Darcey’s judging style, she added: “Darcey was … a classy lady and always so very kind and true to herself in her comments. She never said something to make a headline.”

Kraft wants to trick kids into eating veggies by calling salad dressing ‘frosting’

kraft salad frosting

Keeping children on a course for healthy eating is a challenge, and convincing a crabby youngster to chomp on some broccoli is often an exercise in futility. If you’re a parent who knows what it’s like to try to get a kid to eat vegetables, Kraft wants you to know that they sympathize.

In fact, the company is apparently so sympathetic that it wants to help parents of picky kids lie about the food that hits the dinner table. Kraft will be disguising its ranch salad dressing as “frosting” to give parents a new weapon in the war over nutrition.

‘You Have to Take a Stand.’ Soccer Phenom Alex Morgan Wants the Respect—and Money—Female Players Deserve

On a drizzly spring evening in New York City, Alex Morgan fixes her gaze on the golf ball at her feet, cocks her arms and then propels them forward with effortless power. The ball leaps off the tee and sails toward the netting between the tee and the Hudson River 200 yd. away. “This is nice,” Morgan says, exhaling between swings. “Really nice.”

The driving range is a favorite escape for Morgan, but she’s spending less and less time there–even as she needs the release more than ever. The reigning U.S. women’s soccer player of the year, Morgan is the sport’s most marketable American star since Mia Hamm and the linchpin of Team USA’s bid to clinch a second consecutive World Cup title this summer. She leads the U.S. into the tournament, which begins on June 7 in France, facing outsize expectations both on the field and off.

As the defending champions and top-ranked team, the Americans are favored to win. But the competition is historically tough. When the U.S. hosted the landmark 1999 World Cup, which led tens of thousands of girls to sign up for youth soccer leagues, only a few countries were considered contenders. Traditional soccer powers like France, England and Spain didn’t even qualify. Now, thanks in part to increased investment from soccer governing bodies and their corporate backers, many more have a real shot in the tournament, which now has 24 teams, up from 16 two decades ago.

Alex Morgan World Cup TIME Magazine Cover

“This is the first time I have ever been able to name potential winners on more than one hand,” says former U.S. player Julie Foudy, an ESPN analyst, who sees the U.S., France, Germany, Australia, Japan, England and Sweden as title threats. “Absolutely, this is the most competitive World Cup I have seen.”

Interest should be particularly high in the U.S., where the women’s team not only outperforms the men’s team on the field–the men failed to even qualify for last year’s World Cup–but has outdrawn it too. Four years ago, some 25 million people watched the women’s team beat Japan in the World Cup final–a record U.S. audience for any soccer game.

But the team’s success highlights glaring inequities. Despite the popularity of the women’s team, the men are positioned to make substantially more money. And so on March 8, International Women’s Day, the U.S. players took the unprecedented step of filing a federal gender-discrimination lawsuit against the United States Soccer Federation, the national governing body for the sport. Morgan’s name was listed first in the suit, which accuses U.S. Soccer of paying “only lip service to gender equality.” (The federation, in a legal filing responding to the complaint, denied unlawful conduct, attributing any alleged pay discrepancies to “differences in the aggregate revenue generated by the different teams and/or any other factor other than sex.”)

“Eventually, you just have to take a stand,” Morgan says while riding in an Uber from her New York hotel to the driving range. “How come we’ve had to fight this whole time, year after year?”

Her stand has inspired other women’s teams around the world to push for equal treatment and has transformed the U.S. women into a cause larger than soccer. At a Los Angeles exhibition game in April, the actors Jessica Chastain, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Garner, Uzo Aduba and Natalie Portman attended with T-shirts that read Time’s Up Pay Up. At a time of almost paralyzing political division, the World Cup has the potential to be a welcome national distraction, a respite from presidential politicking and cable-news sniping.

“A win for this team is a win for women everywhere,” says former U.S. captain Abby Wambach. “If other women in the business world, in parenting, see these women stepping up and betting on themselves, it gives them the power to want to do it for themselves. And that, my friend, is how the world actually changes.”

No pressure or anything, not that Morgan wasn’t feeling plenty already. Morgan, 29, is the face of Team USA–her steely gaze will be plastered on billboards and dancing across screens in commercials for Coca-Cola, Nike and Secret deodorant. Her millions of followers on Instagram and Twitter give her one of the largest social-media imprints of any female athlete in the world. She starred in a Nickelodeon movie for kids, Alex & Me; wrote a series of books for middle schoolers that was made into an Amazon TV series; and has shared a stage with Taylor Swift.

But Morgan, who in April joined Hamm and Wambach as the youngest U.S. players to score 100 career international goals, has never dominated the World Cup. She was a breakout rookie in a losing effort in 2011, and was hobbled by injuries in 2015 when Carli Lloyd’s heroics powered the U.S. to victory. This year is the best chance for America’s best player to make her mark on the world’s most prestigious tournament–while showing that she should be paid the same as any man for doing it.

Rich Lam—Getty ImagesAlex Morgan #13, Lauren Holiday #12, Abby Wambach #20 and Whitney Engen #6 of the United States of America hold the World Cup Trophy after their 5-2 win over Japan in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 Final at BC Place Stadium on July 5, 2015 in Vancouver, Canada.

“We have to do more in general–we have to be the athlete, we have to be the role model, we have to lead the way for the next generation,” Morgan says. “Are male athletes doing that? Are they thinking about anyone other than themselves? I don’t know. We do have more than one job within this role, and are getting paid much less.”

So it’s understandable if the weight of it all weighs on Morgan as she hacks away at the driving range. After a few crisp swings, she whiffs, missing the ball completely. “I’m going back to my 7-iron,” she says when her driver catches air. All that looms in the background is national unity, gender equality and Morgan’s professional legacy. “You can’t think about it,” she says. “But you can’t not.”

Leading the fight for equal pay in sports was far from the mind of the 8-year-old Morgan when she left a Post-it for her mother, Pam, at their home in Diamond Bar, Calif., a suburb east of Los Angeles. “Hi Mommy!” Morgan wrote on a note Pam still has. “My name is Alex and I am going to be a professional athlete for soccer!” She signed it “Ali Cat.”

The certainty was surprising. Unlike most promising young soccer players, Morgan avoided the high-pressure Southern California youth circuit and played many different sports as a kid. Her competitiveness was honed in fierce board games with her parents and two older sisters. “Alex strove not to be the loser,” says her father Michael, a retired masonry contractor. “Because she knew she was going to get party-danced around.”

Morgan began playing elite travel soccer at 14, years after many of her contemporaries. She credits playing a range of sports with preventing her from burning out. “When I went to soccer practice, I was really excited because I hadn’t been there in four days,” says Morgan. She worries that today’s youth system is also pricing out potential soccer stars and is counterproductive to America’s future competitiveness.

From our Partner: IBM on how AI can drive equality

Morgan’s speed and knack for scoring earned her a soccer scholarship to the University of California, Berkeley, where she graduated with a degree in political economy and met her future husband, Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Servando Carrasco, who also played for the school. Morgan excelled on the pitch for Cal and was named to the U.S. Under-20 team, which functions as a feeder for the top national team. After helping lead the U.S. to the 2008 Under-20 World Cup title with a brilliant left-footed goal in the final, Morgan was called up to the senior squad.

Her impact was immediate. Morgan scored a key goal against Italy to help the U.S. qualify for the 2011 World Cup, and she emerged as a go-to substitute in the tournament. Undaunted by soccer’s biggest stage, Morgan scored in both the semis and the finals in her first World Cup, which the U.S. lost in heartbreaking fashion to Japan.

The performance endeared Morgan to her older teammates, who gave her the nickname Baby Horse. “She ran so fast and has a very specific gait,” says former teammate Shannon Boxx. “Baby horses are little unsteady with her legs, and we kind of saw that.” Morgan disliked the name but knew better than to complain. “When you’re young and have no leverage on the team, you’re like, Sure, I’ll take Baby Horse,” she says. “But after two or three years, I was like, O.K., it’s funny, but let’s move on.”

Baby Horse became a key cog in the team’s gold-medal run at the 2012 Olympics. Her winning goal in the semifinal against Canada–a header seconds before time expired–has become soccer lore. “What’s unique about Alex is the closer she gets to the goal, the slower the game happens for her,” says Wambach, who has written a new book called Wolfpack: How to Come Together, Unleash Our Power, and Change the Game. “She can see the rotation of the ball, and imagine and create a situation where most players would be like, ‘Oh, this is shut down.’ It’s like something else inside of her body just goes into a natural state of flow that allows her to score goals. Her power is unlike anything I’ve ever seen.”

The Olympics made Morgan into a star. She appeared in McDonald’s ads with LeBron James and helped the fledgling National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) get off the ground by joining the Portland Thorns for the inaugural 2013 season. Buoyed by endorsement deals, her annual income grew into the seven figures–far beyond that of any other top U.S. women’s player. She published an autobiography in 2015 and began writing The Kicks, a best-selling kids’ fiction series with a 10th installment coming in June.

A run of knee and ankle injuries, however, slowed Morgan’s ascent. She was hobbled by knee problems at the 2015 World Cup and isn’t proud of her individual showing despite the team’s win. “I don’t feel like I met my goals,” Morgan says in late February at a Philadelphia hotel, where the national team was staying for a game against Japan. “In the first half of the final, I was just gasping, dead. My legs would not go. I wasn’t thinking about how to beat my opponent and be that fearless attacker. I was thinking about how to be pain-free.” A year later at the Rio Olympics, Sweden bounced the U.S. in the quarterfinals, the earliest the U.S. women’s team has ever been eliminated from a major international tournament.

It was a low moment. Morgan needed to rekindle her passion for the game. So she did what many other Americans in search of inspiration have done: move to France. After being courted publicly by Jean-Michel Aulas, the president of the French club team Olympique Lyonnais, Morgan agreed to join the squad for its 2017 season. Lyon has become a powerhouse in the women’s game, dominating the competition by attracting top players from around the world, paying them more and treating them like a men’s team. This simple, seemingly intuitive idea is radical in professional soccer, where the men’s teams of top clubs are routinely afforded more perks than their women’s sides. “It was something I needed at the time,” says Morgan. “To focus on soccer solely and entirely, without having my family, without having my friends, not having anyone but the team I went to play for.”

Lyon soared with Morgan, winning the league championship, the French Cup and the Women’s Champions League title–a feat known as the treble. More importantly, Morgan rediscovered the joy of playing. She began meditating and doing yoga, and soon switched to a vegan diet after deciding it was unethical to eat meat.

Save for exalting the beeflike Impossible Burger, Morgan couches her new regimen as a personal choice and keeps the proselytizing to a minimum. But over a dinner of artichokes and stuffed peppers in New York, she says the change has boosted her energy on the field. It’s impossible to argue with the results: from August 2017 through the end of last year, Morgan scored an incredible 25 goals in 26 games. She is decidedly no longer Baby Horse. “She has worked to promote the game, promote her team and promote herself,” says Hamm, who still casts a long shadow over women’s soccer. “She’s done an amazing job.”

As Morgan has developed into America’s leader on the field, she has strengthened her voice beyond it. Among the pro-athlete orthodoxies she’s willing to break: don’t criticize management, and steer clear of politics. After Major League Soccer’s Orlando City team declined to retain her husband, Carrasco, while Morgan was playing for the Orlando women’s team, she called out the clubs’ shared management for breaking what she says was a deal. “We were told it was going to be a long-term relationship between the club and us,” Morgan says now. “When you promote a business acting as a family, I would expect to be given that treatment you promote.”

President Donald Trump is another target. “I don’t stand for a lot of things the current office stands for,” Morgan says. She’s particularly upset about the Administration’s policy of separating migrant families at the southern border, noting that her husband’s family is from Mexico. Indeed, if Trump invites the team to the White House after the World Cup, Morgan says she won’t go. If that turns anyone off, so be it.

“We don’t have to be put in this little box,” Morgan says between sips of red wine at dinner. “There’s the narrative that’s been said hundreds of times about any sort of athlete who’s spoken out politically. ‘Stick to sports.’ We’re much more than that, O.K.?”

A national team doesn’t simply decide to sue its governing body on a whim. The roots of the equal-pay fight go back decades. In the early 1990s, the team flew to a tournament in China in cramped economy seats adjacent to the smoking section. “We were pretty much smoking for 13 hours,” says Hamm, who played on the team from 1987 to 2004. Players recall staying in roach-infested rooms and taking the hotel shuttle bus to a game. “We sit now and we have to laugh,” says Hamm. “If you didn’t, you’d cry.”

Conditions for the team have vastly improved since the 1990s, and U.S. Soccer has invested far more in women’s soccer than most other countries. But plenty of indignities linger.

At one stop on the 2015 World Cup victory tour, a series of 10 exhibition games across the country meant to celebrate the team (and fill U.S. Soccer’s coffers), players were shocked by the conditions at Aloha Stadium near Honolulu. Rocks filled the turf. In some sections, the aging field was pulling up out of the ground. The team felt it was unsafe and refused to play. U.S. Soccer agreed and canceled the game, but it rankled the players that it wouldn’t have happened if they hadn’t spoken out.

“It falls on us sometimes to decide what’s just, what’s unjust,” says Morgan. “We as players shouldn’t have to make those decisions. But I’m happy we came together and did.”

It was a lesson that informed the decision of five of the team’s star players, in 2016, to file a complaint over inequity in pay and bonuses with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. “We realized that just because we had success without being given what we deserve, doesn’t mean we didn’t deserve it,” says Morgan. “That was like a flip of the switch.”

In April 2017, the players signed a new collective-bargaining agreement with U.S. Soccer. As part of the deal, the players won control of certain licensing and marketing rights. They partnered with the NFL Players Association and the WNBA Players Association to form REP Worldwide, a new licensing-representation company, in late 2017. REP expects to sign some 25 licensees–for things like jerseys, scarves and digital collectibles–for the women’s soccer players by the start of the World Cup. REP says the players can expect between $ 1 million and $ 2 million in net royalties by the end of 2020.

Despite these gains, the women often end up with less than the men–and that includes the coaches. For the fiscal year ending in March 2018, women’s head coach Jill Ellis received $ 318,533 in total compensation–making her the 10th highest paid employee at U.S. Soccer. Jürgen Klinsmann, who was fired as U.S. men’s coach in 2016, still received $ 3.35 million. Bruce Arena, who replaced Klinsmann and oversaw the failed effort to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, got $ 1.27 million. Even the coach of the Under-20 men’s team made more than Ellis. (U.S. Soccer says she has since received a six-figure raise that will be disclosed in next year’s tax filings.)

“It’s devastating to see a male coach who hasn’t been coach of the men’s team for more than two years still be paid significantly more than Jill, who has a World Cup title on her résumé,” says Morgan. “It’s terrible.”

This long history was on the players’ minds when they decided to sue their employers in an effort to close the pay gap once and for all. As the team’s top player and biggest name, Morgan agreed to be listed first in the complaint.

“I’m not sure our team would have done that three months before the World Cup,” says Foudy, who played on the seminal 1999 U.S. team that won the World Cup on home soil. “We wouldn’t want all that noise. I respect that they’re willing to absorb all that. It’s courageous.”

According to the complaint, U.S. Soccer “rejected requests for compensation for the WNT players that would have been at least equal to that afforded to the male MNT players.”

U.S. Soccer has argued that since the organization signed different collective-bargaining agreements with the men’s and women’s teams, the gender comparisons are unfair. Women’s national team players, for example, can now receive salaries of around $ 170,000 from the federation if they also play in the NWSL, which U.S. Soccer helps finance. The U.S. provides no such base pay to the men’s players, since they can earn contracts playing in pro leagues that are far more lucrative than organizations like the NWSL. According to U.S. Soccer, the men are eligible for higher per-game bonuses because the federation pays them on a per-game basis as opposed to a salary. For example, the men receive $ 17,625 for winning an exhibition game, or friendly, against a top-10 team or Mexico; under the 2017 collective-bargaining agreement, the women get $ 8,500 for a friendly victory over a top-4 team or Canada. Some of the pay gap also comes from the stark differences in World Cup performance bonuses from FIFA. FIFA awarded $ 9 million to the U.S. after the men reached the round of 16 in the 2014 World Cup, while the federation received $ 2 million after the women won it all in 2015. FIFA has attributed these differences to the larger revenues generated by the men’s tournament.

The litigation is expected to take months to play out. U.S. Soccer is attempting to get the case dismissed, while the players may try to force a settlement. Whatever the legal result, the U.S. women have already secured a victory. Their push for more equitable benefits has inspired other female athletes to fight for their fair share.

“The women’s soccer team, in my opinion and the opinion of many of my teammates, continues to lead the way in advancing women’s sports,” says Meghan Duggan, a member of the 2018 Olympic gold medal–winning U.S. hockey team, which threatened to boycott the world championships in 2017 unless their pay improved. (The team struck a new agreement with USA Hockey before the tournament began.) The U.S. team’s stand has set off a chain reaction in women’s soccer. The Danish women’s national team boycotted a World Cup qualifying match in October 2017; it has since signed a four-year collective-bargaining agreement that included increased investment in women’s soccer. After refusing to promote their appearance in the 2017 Euro tournament finals, Scotland’s female players signed the first collective-bargaining agreement with their federation. And Norway’s women achieved pay parity with the men.

In some ways, the equality fight is being won piecemeal. The foodmaker Luna Bar pledged to pay each of the U.S. women who made the World Cup team $ 31,250, to make up for differences in roster bonuses. Nike has launched a national ad campaign called “Dream With Us,” built around Morgan and the women’s team as inspirational figures. Still, relying on corporate largess to compensate for a cultural double standard is halting progress at best.

“When I was playing, 75% of my money came from endorsements, 25% came from playing. I would love for that to be flipped,” says Hamm. “It’s frustrating that we’re still having these conversations. I’m proud of the women that they’re saying we’re not taking no for an answer.”

To Morgan, the best way to state her case is on the field. She sees another World Cup win as essential to boosting public support for equal pay. “Seeing women supporting other women on a grander level is pretty unique,” she says. “We need to capitalize on that now.”

The path to victory in France, however, is narrower than ever. The host team is hungry for its first title; the last time a World Cup was held in France, in 1998, the men won at home. England, which reached the semifinals in 2015, won the SheBelieves Cup in March. And Japan, which has reached the finals of the past two World Cups, remains a threat. The U.S. opens against Thailand, on June 11, and must fare well against the other teams in its group, Chile and Sweden, which is led by former U.S. coach Pia Sundhage, to advance.

To prepare, Morgan has studied video of her performances with her personal coach and worked on a bending left-footed shot, from outside the 18-yd. box. She’s also taking extra care of her body. When the national team introduced high-tech wristbands to monitor rest quality, Morgan ditched the device. “I swear when I started wearing it, I stopped sleeping well,” Morgan says. “After two nights, I was like, F this.”

Back at the driving range, the sky clears over the Hudson River as Morgan talks about her ability to compartmentalize. Among the things on her mind is an ambition to launch a media company for girls and women who love sports. But she has balanced performance with the demands of stardom as well as any athlete before her. So why not expect more of the same this summer? “If we do our job,” she says, “people will be captivated. This can be something greater and bigger than there’s ever been before.”

Morgan takes one last swing with her driver. Whack. Her ball flies high and long, straight toward the sunset.

Dr. Oz Wants Us To Stop Washing Our Chicken But Twitter Will Not Have It (They Will Not Have It Oh)

Daytime Emmy Awards 2019 Arrivals

Dr. Mehmet Oz visited The Breakfast Club this morning and spoke his piece on a very controversial topic, at least for Black folks: whether or not to wash your chicken before cooking. Dr. Oz agreed with the experts, saying that washing your chicken is not only a waste of time, but it can also contaminate your kitchen.

“Why do you wash chicken? To get the bacteria off it right? Clean it,” he said. “When you wash your chicken you spray the salmonella all over the kitchen. Everywhere. It just splatters everywhere. Then you put the chicken into the oven, and the heat from the oven would have killed that salmonella anyway. So now you took salmonella, put it on your salad, which you aren’t going to heat up to 160 degrees, and that’s how you get salmonella.”

When the hosts disagreed with this statement, saying the answer is to wash the chicken in the sink and afterward, clean the sink, he told them that’s not a fool-proof plan.

“It doesn’t always go in the sink,” he said. “People wash their salads in the sink. When you splatter the water on the chicken, it goes outside of the sink sometimes. It’s been looked at. That’s one of the problems.”

Instead of washing the chicken and possibly getting it all over the place (including on your face and mouth accidentally), he said let the oven sterilize your chicken, or the grease — whatever way you thoroughly cook meat.

“No matter what you do, there’s no incremental benefit to washing the chicken,” he said. “If you wash it, you’re not killing your salmonella with water, believe it or not. Make that our anthem for the summer: No more washing chicken! Put it in the oven, let the oven do the work for you.”

Charlamagne lovingly called it “white people sh-t.”

We’ve written in the past about experts’ concerns about people’s affinity for washing chicken due to the water reportedly causing bacteria to be splashed up to three feet. With that being said, Dr. Oz’s sentiments aren’t new or crazy. However, it didn’t help his case when he went from talking about properly cooking chicken to properly washing your a– with the help of a little saliva and the highest quality of toilet tissue.

“Toilet paper, I spit on it to moisten it or use the sink,” he said. “Wet wipes are okay, too, but they mess up the sewer system. It’s a moist wipe on your bottom.”

Still, he’s sticking by what he said, particularly when it comes to chicken:

Overall, Twitter gave the side-eye to his visit today. You know people don’t play around when it comes to food. Hit the flip to see what the Black Twitter Coalition had to say about why they’re not giving up the beloved chicken washing practice anytime soon:

Camille Paglia Wants to Provoke, but Mostly She Just Irks Us

Photo Illustration by The Daily Beast / Photos by Getty

On so many issues, Camille Paglia and I are simpatico. We believe in free thought and free speech, we root for the Philadelphia Eagles, we dig Rihanna, we think comparative religion should be part of a core curriculum, we loathe modern French literary theory, and we agree that “Anarchism is glorified thumb-sucking.” Our ancestors were peasants from southern Italy. And we are both huge fans of her classic, Sexual Personae: Art and Decadence from Nefertiti to Emily Dickinson.

It may be hard for younger readers to appreciate the impact that Sexual Personae had in 1990. Those old enough liken it to the effect of Susan Sontag’s Against Interpretation in 1966. An exhilarating swirl of decadence, sexual politics, and revisionist art history, Sexual Personae bitch-slapped a stuffy and complacent academia. Opening its pages was the intellectual equivalent of finding foie gras in a high school cafeteria. It was as if Nietzsche had a lesbian Italian sister.

It’s been nearly thirty years since Sexual Personae. We’ve waited for the next thunderclap from the Ubermensche Frau. But what we’ve gotten after all that time is a pundit. Provocations is 712 pages, a collection of Paglia’s essays, Salon columns, interviews, and even one hundred pages headed under the title “A Media Chronicle” of everything written by or said about her over more than two decades.

Four Things Steve Canal Wants You to Know About Marketing and Branding

Steve Canal was a star college athlete and now is a branding expert. He’s worked with an impressive list of companies including McDonald’s, Facebook, Coors Light, Delta, and Walmart. After some stumbles in his journey, he has learned many lessons of success in marketing and branding.

For example, Canal worked with the U.S. Army in its branding efforts. That work taught him the value of human connection. He led a national campaign that connected recruiters to potential soldiers looking for opportunities. The campaign involved wrapping hummers and jets in U.S. Army branding and turning them into interactive installations. It gave the brand identity, and made potential recruits feel invited and engaged.

His work has led him to other marketing and branding realizations from which other entrepreneurs and marketing and PR professions can learn.

Four Things Steve Canal Wants You to Know About Marketing and Branding (In His own Words)

-What leads the campaign is research. I need to know what you’re passionate about, what motivates you, and what you’re trying to accomplish. For example, even though they may offer similar products; Company A and Company B need a unique offering that must be brought to life. You have to understand what’s important to each brand and create a package that says I’m paying attention to you, I know what’s important to you. I don’t call them clients, I call them partners because it’s a two way street.

-Who is the brand? What are they offering, and who are the people who care? Some organizations do focus groups. Take that extra step to get that insight. Times are changing, people are changing, there’s a new mindset within age demographics that don’t think like you as the brand. That’s where localizing your brand comes to play. You must find advisers and champions within those communities to get you that information, and listen to them

-It’s important to know what your strengths and weaknesses are, and find opportunities to make your weaknesses a strength. If you’re super passionate about something or you need to know something then do it. Either way, you must prioritize what’s important for you to be able to do versus what you can outsource.

-Brands need to stop thinking they have all the answers by coming up with campaigns within their walls, and not having any diversity of thought. Many times you get into these rooms to pitch, and across the table there are a bunch of like minded people coming up with campaigns without being where their customer is. Diversity of thought will make or break brands in the future. If you’re not aligned with consumers then they won’t mess with you.

Kail Wants to Quit ‘Teen Mom 2’ After Jenelle’s Mom Jokes About Killing Her

Kailyn Lowry and Jenelle Evans have been through their fair share of drama – but it all came to a head in January when Jenelle and her mother, Barbara Evans, went on Instagram Live and made a joke about killing her. While filming a video with Brittany DeJesus, Barbara joked they should “all get lit, and we’ll go kill Kail.”

The comment almost immediately went viral and Kail, 27, quickly got word. “I heard Barb wants to kill me. … Are drunk words sober thoughts?” she tweeted at the time. The incident played out during the Monday, April 15, episode of Teen Mom 2 and was extremely intense.

During the episode, Jenelle and her mom went to Atlanta for a girls’ trip to destress. Even though David Eason wasn’t thrilled about Jenelle traveling without him, she needed a break from the real world and said that she was tired of hearing Kailyn talk about her on her podcast, so off they went.

After a day of shopping, Jenelle and Barbara broke out the wine and beer and went live on Instagram. She added Briana Dejesus’ sister to her stream, too. However, it all came crashing down when producer Kristen called Barbara while the stream was still going on.

Industry Rule No. 4080?: Lil Uzi Vert Wants New Record Deal

Lil Uzi Vert seen performing at Coachella weekend 2 Day 3

Source: WENN.com / WENN

Lil Uzi Vert wants out. The Philadelphia rapper and self-described rock stars isn’t happy with the current terms of his recording contract with Generation Now.

Reports TMZ:

A source familiar with his current deal tells TMZ … the rapper’s being exploited because the contract allows little room for growth and doesn’t do enough for his bottom line.

We’re told Generation Now is supposed to cover Lil Uzi’s studio time and recordings, but the label’s refusing to pony up — so he’s being forced to seek financial assistance from people close to him. Sounds like an awkward conversation.

Lil Uzi’s serious about getting out from under his contract … we’re told his side proposed an amended deal, one that’s more fair and balanced for the artist. As you might expect, the label is pushing back.

However, another source tells us Generation Now isn’t holding up the release of Uzi’s upcoming album, “Eternal Atake,” and they’re definitely NOT exploiting him — they claim he’s been in full control of the project from the jump.

As the label sees it … Uzi has a production budget for the album and he’s been recording in Philadelphia for a while, but hasn’t shared any of his work — making it difficult for the label to set release dates, or figure out marketing and promotion plans.

The drama (no pun, you’ll see why) is prickly for Hip-Hop heads because Generation Now was founded by Don Cannon and DJ Drama. The renowned DJ’s and producers did plenty for the culture as the Aphilliates.

Word is both sides are still willing to communicate, but it’s a slow roll at the moment.

RHONY Bethenny Frankel Is All Of Us! She Too Wants The Ladies On RHOBH To Shut Up About Puppygate!

Just like every other Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fan, Real Housewives of New York City star Bethenny Frankel is sick and tired of puppygate. This week on Twitter, the Skinny Girl mogul told fans that she was four episodes into Season 9 of RHOBH, and she couldn’t believe all the focus was on a dog.

“I need everyone to tell me where they stand on #rhobh bc I think I may be seeing a different show than I heard about. I’m 4 episodes in. FOUR episodes about a #DOGBACLE,” Frankel tweeted.

Frankel went on to beg her west coast counterparts to “stop talking about the dog,” and she made it clear that no one cares about text messages to Teddi Mellencamp. The dog didn’t work out, and it was returned, said Frankel, then she asked if she was missing something.

The RHONY star says that Dorit Kemsley should have given the dog back to Lisa Vanderpump instead of dropping it off at a shelter, but that doesn’t mean she backs LVP. However, Frankel doesn’t support the rest of the RHOBH cast who have ganged up on the restaurateur.

Even though Frankel is friends with Kyle Richards and Lisa Rinna, she says that she watches the show with a fresh perspective and she occasionally texts her friends to share her thoughts. Frankel does admit that even though the puppygate storyline is weak, it keeps pulling her back in.

During the most recent RHOBH episode, Mellencamp and Kemsley seemingly made up after Mellencamp admitted her role in the dog drama. But, as Newsweek points out, both women are still at odds with Vanderpump because she apparently masterminded the whole thing to make Kemsley look bad.

Mellencamp appeared on Watch What Happens Live after the episode aired, and she told host Andy Cohen that Kemsley was more forgiving of her than Vanderpump because she knows the truth.

Mellencamp explained that the original story she heard in the Bahamas was “gnarly,” and was very different from the truth.

“I first get a call from John Blizzard, and he’s like, ‘Hey, Dorit’s not calling Lisa back, so she’s gonna text her, Teddi knows.’ And then it just all spiraled from there,” said Mellencamp.

New episodes of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills air Tuesday nights on Bravo.

Queen Latifah Defends Jussie Smollett Wants To See “Definitive Proof” He Staged Attack

Queen Latifah is speaking out in support of actor Jussie Smollett.

The Empire star has been charged with filing a false police report. In January he alleged he was the victim of a horrific and racist attack from two men wearing MAGA hats. The investigation changed after two men who, know Smollett, were brought in for questioning. Smollett soon went from victim to instigator.

Although several celebrities turned their back on Smollett, Queen Latifah stayed quiet until now. She voiced her opinion standing up for 36-year-old.

“The guy I’ve seen has always been someone who cares about people, who cares about others, and who’s very kind and who’s always been cool and sweet. And that’s just the guy I know. So until I can see some definitive proof, which I haven’t seen yet, then, you know, I gotta go with him until I see otherwise,” she shared with the Yahoo News.

The Star actress, like so many people, also does not know what to make of the entire situation. It is unimaginable that someone would make up such an awful attack for any reason. She may not know what to think about the charges against Smollett, but Queen Latifah does have one hope or wish for everyone involved, especially her friend.

“All I know is that I hope everything works out in the end and everybody basically comes out unscathed,” she proclaimed.

It is a big ask or even wishful thinking that the situation will be resolved without lasting implications on anyone involved. Sadly, right now the one who stands to lose the most regardless of the outcome is the actor. There are some serious issues with his story, and even if he is found innocent, those discrepancies will never add up.

There are very few who continue to show support for Jussie Smollett since his arrest. Even though the powers that be at Empire claim to still believe in his innocence, Smollett’s character Jamal Lyon was written out of the final two episodes of the season. As for the actor, he maintains his he was the victim not the instigator via his lawyer. He has not spoken out since his interview with Robin Roberts days before his arrest.

One person who is not only sticking by Smollett but is standing by the innocent until proven guilty notion is Queen Latifah, what do you think about her comments?

Inside the Bookstore That Wants to Gender-Balance Our Bookshelves

A.N. Devers has always had a fondness for unwanted things. As a child, her family moved around the U.S. a lot, following her father’s postings in the Air Force. In each new town, they’d go to yard sales, where Devers would dig through other people’s cast-offs and come up with interesting items to take home.

A few decades later, that talent for spotting the overlooked is the driving force behind her unusual new bookstore, The Second Shelf.

Tucked away in a peaceful courtyard off the busy streets of London’s Soho, the store almost exclusively offers rare books by women authors – a group that has rarely enjoyed the attention, or the price tag, afforded to male writers. Devers, a writer and book dealer, became obsessed with the discrepancy when, at a book fair in 2015, she saw (mostly male) traders relegating titles by renowned female authors like Joan Didion to the lower shelves and, tellingly, selling them for a tiny fraction of the cost of books by their male counterparts. “We don’t value women’s work the same way we do men’s,” Devers says. “It’s depressing. But it’s also exciting, because I can do something about it.”

After Devers, 42, moved from New York to London – “a great town for people interested in rare books” – in 2016, she started meeting other women in the trade. The idea for The Second Shelf began to take shape. A prolific user of social media, Devers marshalled her thousands-strong following into powerful online attention for her project, which she initially intended as an online store. She raised over $ 40,000 on Kickstarter and garnered interest from high-profile figures in the book world.

The Second Shelf opened its reddish pink doors in November. Inside, the walls are papered with the kind of patterned end pages you find in beautiful old books, thousands of which are crammed into tall shelves and dark cabinets. Most are first editions, and many are signed and almost all are by women (a handful of male-authored books about women have made it in). The focus is modern fiction – Elizabeth Bowen novels, romances by Rosamunde Pilcher, poetry by Ntozake Shange. But there’s also travel writing, essays, guidebooks and more. Next year Devers’ first book, Traina non-fiction exploration of trains in American culture published by Bloomsbury — will surely join them.

In collecting these works and promoting them in the Second Shelf’s quarterly review, Devers is hoping to correct a historical imbalance in the book trade that has left women authors forgotten over the years. In the U.K., early bookmen (the term for rare book dealers) were “country gentleman who ran estates, and amassed libraries of books to show their wealth and intelligence,” Devers says. There have been some famous bookwomen, she adds, citing Bella de La Costa Greene, the black woman who built the famous Morgan Library in New York. But for the most part, it has typically been men who decide which books are worth collecting, preserving and passing down to future generations. As in other male-led creative industries of television, film, and the news media, “they focus on themselves,” Devers says.

The effect is a stark absence of women’s work among what society considers to be the most valuable cultural artefacts. In January, the Second Shelf went viral on Twitter after Devers pointed out that only nine books by women appeared in a list, compiled by a trade website, of the 500 biggest sales at auction in the books and paper field in 2018. Even among more recently published works, a 2018 study found that books by women are sold for on average 45% less than books by men. “In a capitalist society, where we put our money shows where we see value. We’ve been taught to find value in something really narrow,” Devers says. “It’s time to explore something different.”

Sarah K. MarrThe Second Shelf opened in November in Smiths Court in London’s Soho district

Devers’ brick-and-mortar shop – made possible by a good deal on the rent from local estate agents – is the physical site of a mostly online movement pushing back against the status quo. (The online store, which Devers promised on her Kickstarter, is on its way). The Second Shelf is named for a 2012 New York Times essay by Meg Wolitzer critiquing the sexist treatment of women’s fiction. Since then, many have promoted the idea of reading only books by women for a year, while student activists have increasingly called on universities to diversify their largely white and male reading lists.

These days she tours rare book fairs in search of hidden gems that have received little attention. The works that fly off the shelves fastest are those by women of color. “If women’s work has been relegated, then that’s even more true for women who aren’t white, which makes it’s hard for my customers to find elsewhere,” she says. The store has twice sold out of works by Nigerian-born novelist Buchi Emecheta. Devers quickly sold 14 first editions of works by Miriam Tlali – the first black South African woman to get published in her country. Devers initially came across her in a charity shop and was shocked she had never heard of her – today she is out of print, even in South Africa. “I can’t keep up with the demand, which means there is a demand. That’s heartening.”

Less heartening is the reaction some people have to Devers’ mission online. While social media helped power the birth of her store and brings in most of her customers, it has also brought trolls who feel free to share their (often offensive) thoughts on a women’s-only bookstore. Devers says it doesn’t happen constantly, but when it does she will often engage to explain the importance of what she’s doing. “Sometimes it’s exhausting, but I disagree with that idea that you can should just ignore them until they go away,” she says. “People say you should, but if you ignore them, there’s no counterpoint.”

Sarah K. MarrMany of the women-authored books in The Second Shelf are signed, and most are first editions.

Some of the trolls are men taking issue with their perceived exclusion from the store. But much of the online abuse The Second Shelf gets comes from TERFs – an acronym for Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminists, a group which refuses to include trans women in its definition of women and which many say is more prominent in the British feminist movement. On Twitter, TERFs have taken issue with Devers’ stocking of work by trans writers, such as Welsh historian and travel writer Jan Morris, and model April Ashley, who became one of Britain’s first trans public figures. “I’m aware that I’m operating in intellectually charged times around what gender is,” she says. “But I guess wasn’t prepared for how controversial some people would find it: I sell books by and about women, as they define themselves. I want everyone to be comfortable coming into my store.”

As in any good bookstore, customers stepping on to the pale pink-tiled floor of The Second Shelf are greeted by staff members excited to share their wealth of literary knowledge and recommendations for people at different stages of their book collecting career (there are Penguin Classics for $ 8, newer books by Alison Lurie and Rachel Cusk for $ 25–40, first edition Elizabeth Bowens for around $ 50, right up into the hundreds for work by legends like Virginia Woolf). Devers is no exception, constantly breaking into tangents on her favorite stock items and rattling off the life stories of their authors. “It’s frustrating that there are so many great books out there and no one is looking for them,” she says. Now, at least, we know where to start.

Will Smith Wants To Play Venus & Serena Williams’ Father In New Film, Black Twitter Has Questions

'Suicide Squad' World Premiere - Inside Arrivals

Source: Jim Spellman / Getty

Will Smith could be this close to signing up for one of his biggest roles yet!

According to Deadline, the 50-year-old actor is poised to play Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams, in the upcoming film King Richard

Based on 2018 The Black List runner up script by Zach Baylin, King Richard centers on the real-life father who with no tennis background coached his girls into becoming tennis icons, with his youngest Serena winning 23 Grand Slam titles.

As Deadline noted, “when his daughters were around the age of four, Richard Williams drew up a 78-page plan for their professional tennis careers. He began giving them tennis lessons and the girls learned the game on cracked, weedy public courts in Compton, reportedly after their father brawled with young toughs who were not fans of the sport and would not make way.”

It’s unclear when the film will go into production, but what we do know is that Tim White and Trevor White will produce the film under Star Thrower Entertainment, alongside Smith and his Overbrook Entertainment banner, Deadline wrote.

Granted, there are plenty of people excited to see Will take on such a misunderstood and powerful character, but it is hard to ignore the questions and concerns folks about this casting, especially around Will and Richard’s contrasting skin tones.

Here’s what some of Black Twitter had to say:

“Dallas Police detained a man who was found trespassing in singer Erykah Badu’s home,” Lopez tweeted Monday evening. “Sources say the singer called him a stalker. He was issued a criminal trespass warning.”

Badu responded to the report with a video message, saying: “There was no break-in, stop it. Story overblown,” she explained. “The only thing that happened was there was a kid on Twitter[who] followed me. Had the hots for me. Came over, wanted to look at me. Wanted to do some music with me. Made a bad decision. Decided this might not be the best thing, then left.”

The Grammy-winning artist noted that it was her neighbors who called the cops after the suspicious male wandered around her neighborhood asking where she lived.

“The neighbors called the cops cause some strange kid was walking around asking where Erykah Badu lived,” she says. “Of course that’s a reason to raise a red flag, and everyone got upset. The city is in an uproar because a kid made a bad decision.”

The soulstress is not sure if the officers took the fanatic to jail or “to the bus stop.”

This Baseball Team Wants to Rewrite ‘Take Me Out to the Ball Game’ After Going Peanut-Free

A Connecticut minor league baseball team is banning peanuts and Cracker Jack from its stadium to protect fans with food allergies — and it’s even rewriting a classic ballpark song because of it.

As of the 2019 season, the Hartford Yard Goats will no longer sell peanut products at Dunkin’ Donuts Park, according to a team announcement. While other teams have hosted peanut-free nights or maintained peanut-free sections, team officials said they believe they are the first to implement a full ban.

The decision came after Kerry Adamowicz and other local parents approached team officials about their children’s food allergies. Adamowicz’ two-year-old son, Sam, has a life-threatening peanut allergy, and the new policy means he can grow up a baseball fan, she told NBC Connecticut.

“It’s a huge relief,” Adamowicz said. “It’s a really good feeling to come to the park and know that’s one stress that is taken away and we can breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy baseball.”

As many as 2.5% of U.S. children are allergic to peanuts, an increase of 21% since 2010, according to a recent estimate from the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. A recent study also estimated that about 4.5 million adults are allergic to peanuts, and 3 million are allergic to tree nuts.

Yard Goats President Tim Restall told the Hartford Courant that helping kids and adults with peanut allergies to enjoy the game is more important than selling peanut products.

“The way we look at it, if we eliminate this one item to allow kids to enjoy a baseball game, that’s what it all comes down to,” Restall said. “Why prevent someone from catching a foul ball or getting a picture with [mascots] Chompers and Chew Chew because of a food item?”

And while General Manager Mike Abramson admitted to NBC Connecticut that the team would likely get “flak” for the decision, it’s taking it in stride.

The team is even sponsoring a contest to rewrite the “peanuts and Cracker Jack” lyric in “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” and the winning submission will be sung at the park this season, the Courant reports.

What This Young Mother Living With HIV Wants You To Know

Masonia Traylor

Source: Masonia Traylor / Masonia Traylor

When Masonia Traylor tested positive for HIV in 2010, the then-23-year-old was in a state of utter shock.

See, since Masonia was a teen, she was adamant on getting tested regardless of being in what she believed were low-risk monogamous relationships. And every year, her tests came back negative, until that day, when it didn’t.

“I thought they were lying, that they got somebody’s blood mixed up with mine,” Traylor told HelloBeautiful.

Three days later, after she went to see an infectious disease specialist it began to sink in that HIV was her reality.

“When they started withdrawing blood from me over and over again, I realized that it was real. This is what was happening and happening to me.”

What she didn’t really expect was what she found out next.

Two weeks later, she found out she was pregnant with her second child. However, with the help of her doctor’s support and taking her antiretrovirals, Masonia gave birth to a HIV-negative baby girl, who has remained negative for nearly eight years.

Traylor, who is currently finishing her degree in public policy, has dedicated her work to being an advocate having served as a campaign ambassador for CDC’s Act Against AIDS, “Stop HIV Together” and Kaiser Family Foundation, “Greater Than Aids- Empowerment & We Are Family” projects. She’s also a blogger and Community Advisory Board member for The Well Project, a non-profit organization geared for women living with HIV/AIDS.

For Traylor, she shares her story so that other Black women will see that HIV can happen to anyone.

“I started off as a voice to be out there for other women to see that if I had HIV, being who I am, they could too,” adding, “I felt like maybe HIV was quietly rising in the community and people needed to know about it because I can’t be the only one.”

She also speaks out as a way to pay homage to a friend who passed away from complications to AIDS.

“I lost a friend to complications of AIDS at a time where I wish I known he had known about my status. I wish he would have known that he wasn’t alone.”

For National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD), the young mother of two and HIV activist talked to us about what Black women to know about this epidemic, why HIV testing is key and why we need to finally erase stigma for good.

HelloBeautiful: Being an HIV advocate, what do you want our community to know?

Masonia Traylor: I want for us to understand that we have to care and pay attention if we want this epidemic to shift substantially instead of only progressively. I need my community not to feel forced to accept that I have HIV/AIDS but to respect my journey of living with it.

Not to mention, education is an important step towards ending the epidemic but so is taking a stand in our community and honoring values around our sexual health to protect one another. That will put us closer to a cure then we’ll ever need.

HB: What do you have to say to other Black women who don’t think HIV can happen to them?

MT: The first word of HIV is human. And as long as you’re human, you’re at risk for this disease. If anything, we shouldn’t be the last ones to think that we can be diagnosed with HIV, we need to be the first ones. And we need to not only protect the next generation to come, but be extremely overprotective of our own health more than anybody else.

That, and protecting Black women, protecting ourselves, automatically ends up protecting Black men because they end up respecting us more because we respect ourselves.

HB: Even in 2019, there is still so much stigma surrounding HIV. Why is erasing stigma so important?

MT: As a community we need to erase stigma to help encourage those living with the virus to not be afraid nor ashamed to forgive themselves, save themselves, and our community.

Stigma inflicts pain, and digs deep scars across our minds and hearts. In order to live unapologetically strong, support is needed and destigmatizing HIV/AIDS needs to be erased in order to be supportive.

HB: Why everyone should get tested for HIV?

MT: First off, I don’t think testing everyone is realistic due to certain laws [that require patient’s consent to get tested for HIV] and not everyone wants to know their status. And we should respect that choice.

However, I wish everyone would get tested just to help slow down transmission and get control of the spread of this disruptive virus. Although I believe that getting tested is not enough prevention, however testing saved my life and has spared many others. Testing keeps unborn babies from being born with HIV/AIDS too. I think it’s better to know what’s going on in your body then to wait and your body suddenly shuts down due to not being proactive of your health.

Take care of your health and your body will take care of you. Testing is part of that.

HB: Finally, in a world that tries to shame people for being HIV-positive, how you live with HIV with NO shame?

MT: I’m able to live unapologetically with HIV because I understand that no one can judge me harder than I judge myself. I have forgiven myself for trusting someone else with my life over trusting myself more.

I understand how I can and cannot transmit the virus. I have birthed an HIV-negative baby as proof that I can still live a normal life. I KNOW that if it can happen to me that no one is exempt nor excluded from possibly contracting HIV or developing AIDS. Like I said earlier, I understand that the H in HIV stands for HUMAN which means that as long as you are human it can happen to you.

I’m not ashamed of another’s fear.

This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.

Kourtney Kardashian – Here’s What The KUWK Star Wants To Teach People Through Her Co-Parenting With Scott Disick

It is a well-known fact to Keeping Up with the Kardashians fans that Kourtney Kardashian and her ex, Scott Disick are better co-parents to their three kids than most! That being said, the reality TV star got candid about their co-parenting relationship and revealed why it’s important for it to work, aside from the sake of their young ones.

Kourt and Scott have been through a lot in their nine-years-long relationship before putting an end to it, but nowadays, they seem to be in a great place!

As fans know, the exes often go on vacations together with the children, and some of those have even included the man’s current girlfriend, Sofia Richie, which only proves how healthy their co-parenting is!

While stopping by the Today Show on Thursday, Kourtney got candid about her and Scott’s relationship and what message she’s trying to send through it.

‘I feel like I can show a message, too, of like parents can get along and work together and travel together. And I think it’s a good message to show other people. I am not doing it for that reason, but I think the positive things that we are doing is nice too,’ the mother of three shared.

The Kardashian was a guest during the third hour of the show to also promote her cosmetics reform.

This comes nearly a year after Kourtney met up with congressional leaders and discussed updating the cosmetics legislation so the products generally used would no longer contain dangerous chemicals.

She has now teamed up with the Environmental Working Group to reach that goal.

‘I shouldn’t have to be standing in the bathroom scanning to know what products I am using are safe or not safe. Especially products for my kids,’ the star argued.

Rihanna knows what you want to buy—more of her.

After conquering pop stardom before she was legally old enough to drink, the singer went on to collaborate with Puma, essentially invent millennial pink as we know it, reinvigorate the beauty industry with her lauded 40 shades of foundation, and drop an equally-inclusive line of lingerie. This year, Rihanna shows no signs of slowing down.

On Thursday, WWD reported that the multi-hyphenate is in talks to launch a luxury ready-to-wear line with French fashion conglomerate LVMH. Other heavy-hitters on LVMH’s lineup include Louis Vuitton, Dior, Fendi, Givenchy, Marc Jacobs, and Céline.

dream hampton on Surviving R. Kelly, Supporting Survivors and Why She Wants a ‘Social Death’ for R. Kelly

The documentary series Surviving R. Kelly, which aired on Lifetime in the first week of January, has prompted new interest in the R&B singer’s alleged sexual misconduct with minors. Focusing on stories about his illicit behavior that have circulated for decades, the docuseries raises questions about the limited actions in response to these women’s stories, especially in light of the #MeToo movement, charges filed against Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby’s guilty verdict.

The six-part series, executive produced by the filmmaker dream hampton, features interviews with survivors and parents of girls who they say have been taken captive by Kelly, along with accounts of him coercing women into sex with underage girls and preying on teenagers.

Surviving R. Kelly has spurred several responses, including from high profile figures in the music industry and from law enforcement officials, who have asked any other alleged victims to step forward in order to start an official investigation. Kelly was acquitted in 2008 on child pornography charges and has repeatedly denied allegations of sexual misconduct. A representative for Kelly did not return TIME’s request for comment.

hampton — who says she didn’t expect the wave of responses from investigators, celebrities and viewers — talked to TIME about who she interviewed for Surviving R. Kelly, where the #MeToo movement will go from here and how the public at large can help stop predatory behavior.

Surviving R. Kelly has prompted a number of high-profile responses, from Chance the Rapper to radio stations that have stopped playing his music. How did you feel about Lady Gaga’s statement apologizing for working with R. Kelly?

I thought there was a lot of nuance in it. It’s reflective to me of what people expect from victims of trauma, especially those that speak up, like Lady Gaga, to be perfect, in a way. I was very sorry that she didn’t speak [in the series]. It could have been valuable for people on camera to reckon with the fact that they had continued to collaborate with him, and if they could have said if they have regrets.

Along with those responses, lawyers and investigators have asked any other victims to come forward, indicating they might be looking into R. Kelly in the wake of the series. Has that given you any hope on justice eventually being served?

I don’t have hope in the criminal justice system. I would love a social death for R. Kelly. It’s valuable for black people to be loved by other black people because we’re not loved by the rest of society. I would like for people to know who it is they think they love, and make their decision based on that.

You asked a number of well-known people, from Jay-Z to Erykah Badu to Mary J. Blige, about participating in the series and did not get much of a response from anyone other than John Legend. Who would you like to see speak out?

I wanted Erykah Badu to explain what she meant when she was quoted as saying R. Kelly has “done more for the blacks than anyone”. But I’m not interested in celebrities. I wanted people who worked with Kelly every day on his label, like Barry Weiss [former head of RCA/Jive Records] and other people, like Ann Carli, who worked with him at Jive Records.

[Representatives for Carli and RCA Records did not immediately respond to TIME’s requests for comment. A representative for Weiss declined to comment.]

The New York Times had an op-ed about how Surviving R. Kelly brought the focus of the #MeToo movement back to black girls. The documentary touches on how R. Kelly has avoided consequences in part because people broadly have not cared about the stories of black girls and women. Do you see this as a new starting point to center these voices going forward?

The kind of work we’ve been doing, we’ve always been doing. These movements, for racial justice and gender justice, always overlap with black women. The #MeToo movement and the generation that will fight for gender justice safety is absolutely not being led by celebrities. We know about Gwyneth Paltrow and Mira Sorvino’s stories — we’re aware of that. You’re not always aware of what we’re doing, and what we’re always doing is organizing. When Rick Ross had a lyric about drugging a woman’s glass of champagne and raping her, [women’s activist group] UltraViolet targeted Reebok to cancel his endorsement. That was years ago. We are always doing the work.

On Twitter, people have asked you questions like, “What about Harvey Weinstein?” or about not making a “Surviving Catholic Priests,” or another kind of documentary that wasn’t about a black man. Why do you think people are obsessed with this idea that Kelly is the wrong subject?

When people ask on Twitter, “Why isn’t this about Harvey Weinstein,” they’re really asking “Why is this not about Gwyneth Paltrow or Mira Sorvino?” It’s not about them, not because I don’t think they are women who are deserving of processing pain and getting justice for their trauma. I care about these black girls, black girls in general, and women. And I made a film about a man from my generation. I don’t know any other cis men who don’t benefit from patriarchy. It’s not that R. Kelly is offensive or a creep, or because he has a predilection for young girls, but because he has been a predator for almost three decades and he’s ruined the lives of countless girls and their families.

How can people watching this series at home support survivors?

These are everyday women. They may have come across a predator who happens to be world famous, but we can all look out for predatory behavior. We can stop using euphemisms for this. I always hope something like this [series] can be used as a tool for organizing. #MuteRKelly protests were in front of his studio the other day. Donations to A Long Walk Home, which works to save victims of domestic violence, have increased. We’ve seen calls at domestic centers increase. I could never have anticipated these things.

Ellen DeGeneres Says She Wants Kevin Hart to Be the Oscars Host Despite Homophobic Comments

Ellen DeGeneres said she wants Kevin Hart to be the host of the 2019 Academy Awards – despite the revelation of homophobic comments that he posted on social media.

The Ellen Show host, one of the first openly lesbian Hollywood stars, announced her support for Hart after a candid interview on her talk show in which he apologized again for the remarks.

“I believe in forgiveness. I believe in second chances. And I believe in Kevin Hart,” DeGeneres wrote on Twitter Friday.

During the interview – set to air Friday – Hart said that when homophobic slurs and jokes he had made “a decade ago” resurfaced in December, when it was announced he would be hosting the Oscars, he was unwilling to apologize because he had already “addressed” his past homophobia.

In the end, he stood down and later apologized again for his comments – which included saying in 2010 that one of his biggest fears was his son growing up to be gay. Some of his now-deleted homophobic tweets were posted in 2011, according to BuzzFeed News.

“When it happened,” he said of his comments resurfacing, “my first thought is, I’m going to ignore it because it’s ten years old. This is stuff I’ve addressed, I’ve talked about this. This isn’t new,” he said. “I’ve apologized for it.”

He went on, “I’ve taken 10 years to put that apology to work … I look at life through a different lens, and because of that I live it a different way … I don’t joke like that any more. Because that was wrong.”

“I know you’re not that guy, because I know you,” said Ellen, after a long period where she allowed Hart to talk uninterrupted. “The night will be about you, and it should be about you, and you should host the Oscars.”

A source told People magazine on Thursday that the Academy was considering asking Hart back after the controversy.

But some Twitter users were not convinced. “It’s depressing that Ellen’s enthusiasm for Hart hosting the Oscars … led her to contribute to a narrative that Hart is the victim of “haters” & “trolls” out to “destroy” him,” said Adam Vary, a journalist for BuzzFeed and one of the Twitter users who highlighted Hart’s homophobia when it was first announced he would be hosting the Oscars.

“LGBT people who love the Oscars were legitimately startled to see just how harsh his words were,” Vary said.

It’s no secret that Phaedra Parks is the queen of side hustles. Not only is she a lawyer and a mortician, but she is now dabbling in the feminine products game.

Enter: My Healthy Peach.

According to TMZ, the former Real Housewives of Atlanta co-star is collaborating with Tatianna Knights RN, BSN, a labor and delivery nurse, for a new line to help women have “a nice juicy fresh peach and a sweet peach.”

“I am introducing a new product line. You know I’m known for my ‘badookadonk,’ but my new product line has to do something about…with your vagina,” Phaedra said during a recent gathering of friends at her Atlanta home for a “Ladies Night Out” event.

“So my new product line ‘The Healthy Peach,’ is about not having a tart peach,” the mother of two said. “I want the peaches to be sweet and fresh.”

“My Healthy Peach will make you juicy and sweet.

The line, which is free of sulfates, parabens and most harsh chemicals, seems to be doing well. According to the company’s website, the $ 12.50 box of wipes appear to be sold out.

In addition, it appears that Phaedra is making amends with her former cast mates, including Nene Leakes. Here’s a picture of her, Nene, Greg Leakes and Cynthia Bailey celebrating Nene’s birthday.

“#birthday#joy with @neneleakes @greggleakes@cynthiabailey10 @marlohampton@tammepha #reunited and it felt good 😜,” she wrote.

“We keep in touch and we talk,” Phaedra revealed on a recent episode of TV One’s Sister Circle. “Her husband is going through Cancer, so I’ve been trying to support her.”

Phaedra also hinted that she is open to returning to RHOA–if asked.

“And you know never say never, it’s a new year who knows,” she offered. “But like I tell people I’m an old-fashioned girl and I have five degrees as we all know. So I really don’t have to do anything I don’t want to. I have companies, and jobs and businesses.”

JWoww ‘Wants What Is Best’ for Her Kids Amid Roger Drama

Jenni “JWoww” Farley doesn’t want her ongoing drama with estranged husband Roger Mathews to have any impact on their children: daughter Meilani, 4, and son Greyson, 2.

“Jenni’s stance has been the same the whole time — she just wants what is best for their kids,” a source tells Us Weekly exclusively. “From the day [their split] became public, Jenni has not commented about it. She wants her kids to be OK and she doesn’t want her kids to go on social media someday and see that their parents are fighting.”

The Jersey Shore: Family Vacation star, 32, filed a restraining order against Mathews, 43, in the early hours of Friday, December 14, after the pair got into an argument. He shared a series of 10 videos on Instagram about the drama, including some filmed in the back of a police car.

“My wife, earlier tonight, we had a disagreement because she’s leaving again tomorrow for work and promised my daughter that she would be hanging out with her all day, whereas my daughter has the flu. So I took umbrage to it, and a little bit of a disagreement I would say ensued,” Mathews said in one clip.

He went on to call Farley “completely, uncontrollably emotional” and claimed that she told their kids that “their dad is a piece of s–t and she’s sorry she ever had children with him.”

The MTV personality shared her side of the story in a statement shared on Instagram later on Friday morning. She said in part that she had the authorities involved “as she felt it was in her best interest, and in the best interests of her children to do so.”

Farley filed for divorce from Mathews in September after three years of marriage. However, they continued to spend time together in the weeks that followed, and Mathews told Us exclusively in November that he and Farley were “working on things.”

Peter Jackson Wants to ‘Poke Fun’ at Australians in a ‘Mortal Engines’ Sequel

We put some of the most burning questions from Fandom’s Mortal Engines fan communities to producer Peter Jackson, director Christian Rivers and the cast of the film. Questions like what they want to see in a sequel. Which Traction City they would want to live in. And, perhaps most importantly, what’s Thaddeus Valentine’s favourite dad joke? Read some of what they said below; watch the video above for more.

What Would You Like To See in a Sequel?

MOrtal Engines
Hugo Weaving as Thaddeus Valentine in Mortal Engines.

“I’d like to see Dog in the next one,” says Leila George who plays Katherine Valentine, daughter of Hugo Weaving’s villain Thaddeus, in Mortal Engines.

Robert Sheehan, who plays Tom Natsworthy in the film, wants to see his character take on more responsibility.

“In the second book, Tom and Hester have become parents,” he says. Hester is Hester Shaw, the film’s main protagonist, played by Hera Hilmar. “So that would be quite nice wouldn’t it? To play a dad. Do you know what’s interesting? I’ve never played a dad. Hopefully, I wouldn’t drop the poor devil.”

Stephen Lang, who plays cyborg Stalker Shrike, meanwhile says he wants to see “the elopement between Valentine and Shrike.”

We think he’s joking. Valentine actor Hugo Weaving concurs: “The love story between these two. It was sad, the backstory.”

Gaining Traction

Mortal-Engines
The Traction City of London.

Producer Peter Jackson, who also co-wrote the screenplay which is based on the Phillip Reeve novel, wants to see a Traction City in the next one that doesn’t make an appearance here.

“I do look forward to seeing Sydney,” he says. “The traction city of Sydney, which has got a lot of corks floating around the top of it — big swinging corks. And it’s another chance to poke fun at Australians, so why not?”

Co-producer and screenwriter Philippa Boyens wants to see a Traction City absent from their adaptation of Mortal Engines too: “I want to see Arkangel, which is the giant traction city which inhabits the wastelands in the north.”

Jackson also cites Anchorage from “the second story, which is a Traction City on skids on the ice, that is wind-powered.”

Star Wars To Blame

Peter Jackson Shelved ‘Mortal Engines’ for 5 Years – Because of ‘The Hobbit’

Director Christian Rivers, meanwhile, is disappointed we didn’t get to see the Traction City of Panzerstadt in the film – but says there’s a Star Wars-related reason it was left out.

“There is a great moment in the book where they test fire [weapon of mass destruction] Medusa and it destroys Panzerstadt,” he explains. “The shock of people seeing that, because it’s so unnatural to [the tenets of] Municipal Darwinism, it would be like seeing a gazelle eating a lion. It has that unnatural quality about it, everyone is terrified by it. So that would have been cool to see but the reason we don’t see that is for the clarity and the efficiency of the storytelling. We’re going to see this thing go off, [so we need to see it fire] at the target. We don’t want to have a little test drive.”

He adds, “And possibly it might have actually been too akin to Star Wars, actually seeing the Death Star blow up Alderaan, as a mechanic.”

Watch the rest of what they had to say in the video above.

Mortal Engines hits screens in Australia on December 6, the UK on December 8 and the US on December 14.

Sinead O’Connor says she’s done with white people.

Say What Now? Sinéad O’Connor Says She Never Wants to Spend Time with White People Again: ‘The Are Disgusting’

Sinéad O’Connor has been going by the name Shuhada Davitt since converting to Islam and now the 51-year-old singer says she doesn’t want to come in contact with anyone who doesn’t share her beliefs — specifically, ‘white people.’

via People:

Last month, she confirmed on Twitter her conversion to Islam, explaining that her new faith “is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey.”

“All scripture leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant,” the Grammy winner added, before revealing she would henceforth be known by a new name. “I will be given (another) new name. It will be Shuhada.’”

In addition to changing her name on her Twitter page, she also replaced her profile picture with a photo that reads “Wear a hijab just do it” alongside the Nike swoosh logo. Additionally, her Twitter bio now reads, “PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IF YOU POST RACIST OR ANTI MUSLIM RHETORIC ON THIS PAGE YOU WILL BE BLOCKED.”

The day after revealing her big news, O’Connor shared that she had been given her first hijab, writing that she wouldn’t be posting a photo because it’s “intensely personal,” before humorously adding that there was a second reason for her decision.

“I’m an ugly old hag,” she wrote. “But I’m a very, very, very happy old hag.”

Over the next couple of days, the Irish singer went on to share a number of photos of herself wearing a head covering, simply writing that she was “happy.”

O’Connor was ordained as a priest in 1999 in a dissident Roman Catholic group.

She has previously spoken out against the abuses of the Catholic Church, even ripping up a photo of Pope John Paul II during a Saturday Night Live appearance in 1992.

The singer has struggled with her mental health in recent years, yet said she was open about her issues in the hopes that it would inspire others sufferingto seek help.

Reporting live from underneath a pile of feathered skirts, it’s me, a woman who owns far too many clothes. Please don’t tell Jessica Mulroney.

The Canadian stylist, who is known for her close working relationship and friendship with Meghan Markle, landed a fashion correspondent gig on Good Morning America this week. For her first segment, Mulroney broke down the concept of a “Capsule Collection” and why every woman should have one.

Mulroney, who dressed the duchess in a $ 1,495 Brandon Maxwell sheath and $ 2,454 Givenchy pantsuit, has one simple sartorial wish for all us non-royals. “A capsule collection is finding those six pieces you can mix and match, do day to night,” Mulroney said in her seven-minute segment. “[Clothes that] you actually wear; they don’t just hang in your closet.”

Ricki Lake wants to find love again

OHMYGOSSIP — Ricki Lake is “hoping to find love again”.
The 50-year-old actress and television personality tragically lost her ex-husband Christian Evans – who she divorced from back in 2015 but they remained in a relationship – last year and she admits she is on the look out for “true, unconditional love” again but isn’t sure if it will happen.
She said: “I found true love with my husband who passed so I’m hoping to find love again. I don’t think I will. I’m open to it, but I think what I had – I was so lucky to have found that, it’s what everybody wants in life. I had true, unconditional love so I’d like to have something along those lines again. But I feel like lightning doesn’t strike twice. I had the real deal; I just didn’t have it as long as I wanted it.”
And Ricki feels she really “understood” Christian, who sadly took his own life after battling with mental health for a number of years.
She added to PeopleTV’s Chatter: “He had a lot of self-esteem issues and a lot of demons. But I understood him, and he was someone that I think a lot of people misunderstood.”
Meanwhile, Ricki previously spoke of her “heavy heart” following the news of his passing.
She wrote: “It is with a heavy heart that I share that my beloved soulmate, Christian Evans has passed. The world didn’t understand this man, but I did. He succumbed to his life long struggle with bipolar disorder. For anyone who has ever lost a family member or friend to mental illness, my heart goes out to you. I am a greater person for having known him and spent the past 6 and a half years of my life with him. He was a man of love and what mends my broken heart today is knowing that he is finally at peace and his spirit is free. Rest in peace, my love (sic)”

Stephen Colbert Explains Why He Wants Trump to Run for President Again in 2020

Scott Kowalchyk/CBS

Last year, Joe Scarborough went on The Late Show to declare his independence from the Republican Party (after hyping Trump for most of the campaign). This week, he urged voters to put a check on Donald Trump in the midterm elections.

Discussing the president’s unconscionable response to the apparent murder of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, Scarborough’s Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski said, “That can’t be our reality, and at some point this has to end one way or another.”

“You know a great way for it to end is for everybody to get out that gives a damn about this republic and, 19 days from now, go out and vote,” Scarborough said. “Whether you’re a Republican, whether you’re a Democrat, whether you’re an independent, you have to agree that Donald Trump needs to be checked.” Without exactly spelling it out for viewers, he was telling them to vote for Democrats who will be that check, adding, “This is the most important election of our lives.”
