Best water parks in the world

Water parks are great for making adults feel like they’re kids again, and for making kids have a ton of fun. The whole family can splash around in the pool or set their pulses racing by enjoying the water slides. There are plenty of water parks all over the world, and we reckon we’ve discovered the best of the best. Check out these amazing water parks found across the globe.

Typhoon Lagoon – Florida, USA

Disney isn’t content with taking over the movie business and is pretty high up on the list of amazing water parks too. Typhoon Lagoon is considered the best water park in the United States and given the competition that’s pretty impressive. There are water attractions aplenty as everywhere you turn offers you thrills and spills.

Not only can you get your heart racing with the slides but there are wildlife attractions to bring you face to face with some amazing marine life. Shark Reef is where you’ll want to head to meet those animals, but that’s not all, there’s also a giant raft ride on Gangplank Falls. Then as if that wasn’t enough you can even take surf lessons in their wave pool.

WetSide Water Park – Hervey Bay, Australia

Water parks bring in thousands of people every year, and for a relatively small fee, you can go inside and have the time of your life. One thing that sets the WetSide Water Park apart from the others is the fact that this Australian attraction is completely free for anyone wanting to visit.

It won’t cost a cent to enjoy most of the park which is based around educating people about water and the wildlife that lives in it. There is a small cost for those who want to ride the wave machine on a board, but for $ 6 you can’t really have an issue.

Waterbom Bali – Kuta, Indonesia

Indonesia has become a hotspot for backpackers in recent years, but there is plenty here for families too. Waterbom Bali has some of the most original rides found anywhere in the world, and the park really pushes the boundaries. You can enjoy the Water Blaster, where you take aim and fire water balloons at riders, or get competitive against a friend on the Twin Racers ride. There’s, of course, a lazy river to take in, plus Asia’s steepest slide.

Waterbom Bali

Siam Park – Tenerife, Spain

There can be no real dispute that Siam Park in Tenerife, Spain, is the greatest water park in the world. According to TripAdvisor, it has been the top water park in the world for five years in a row. There are plenty of adrenaline pumping slides and rides for people to get their pulses racing, but there’s so much more.

To contrast the thrilling attractions there are family-friendly areas and even some spots for peace and quiet. There are over 30 rides for guests to enjoy, meaning you’ll probably end up not doing any twice in one day there’s so much choice. Siam Park also has its own wave pool, and even holds a world record for the largest ever man-made wave.

These are some of the best places in the world to get wet and wild at a water park. If you can’t have fun or enjoy yourself at these amazing locations then perhaps water parks really aren’t your thing.

White Couple Markets Water As 40-Ounce Malt Liquor in the Hood

They’re cheap, pack a high-alcohol content, and are often associated with gangsters, low-income communities, and classic hip-hop. Perhaps, that’s part of the reason why Hollywood actor Theo Rossi and his wife, Meghan, thought it would be a good idea to emulate the image of a 40-ounce bottle of malt liquor to sell spring water. They were wrong.

Activists and elected officials in Brooklyn, New York, are calling for the removal of Ounce Water from local stores, arguing that the packaging of the water bottles promotes negative stereotypes about black communities as well as alcoholism. In a tweet, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams called the marketing scheme “tone-deaf.”

Protesters say the water bottles are directly linked to the history of cheap liquors like Colt 45, Olde English, and Private Stock, which were marketed to black neighborhoods and glorified through rap music. As a result, this led to alcoholism and “a big part of the demise” of working class communities of color, community member Christine Gilliam told Yahoo.

“In a community that has been ravaged by alcohol and drugs, we are confused as to why someone would create a product that so closely resembles a malt liquor bottle,” wrote Breukelen RISE, an activist group that serves at-risk youth and their families, in a letter to the company, according to The New York Daily News.

As a result of the outrage, Ounce Water was forced to pull some of its products from a supermarket in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Canarsie last week after NYCHA activists complained about its controversial campaign. However, they were replaced with 20-ounce bottles from the same company.

“They called the store and said we were promoting alcoholism by selling water in that bottle,” said Kevin Chang, the manager of the Food World supermarket, to The New York Daily News. “They said they’d come and protest unless we got rid of them. We called the manufacturer. They came and took the 40s and gave us the 20s. To be quite honest, it does look like an Olde English, but it’s plastic. It’s not glass. It’s just water. It says water on the contents.”

Founded in 2015, a company spokesperson said Ounce Water’s mission is to keep people hydrated.

“Ounce Water is hydration made easy. Ounce Water is 100% pure natural spring water,” reads a company statement. “We are highly involved in community activities for youth and adults which focus on health and wellness, and further the education of the health benefits of proper hydration.”

However, much like the backlash against luxury brands like Gucci and Prada, which have been accused of marketing racist imagery, critics say 40 Ounce Water is blackface in a bottle. “It’s insulting to our intelligence,” Thora Lashley said. “What’s next, candy corn in a crack vial? Juice in a syringe?

Lashley, who has lived in Brooklyn’s Breukelen Houses for 50 years, says she saw countless friends succumb to alcoholism growing up in the city housing, some as young as 12 years old. Many of them drank 40s in the hallways, on stoops, and in courtyards, she added.

Derek Perkinson, city field director for the National Action Network, agrees with the protesters. “If it’s a health kick, fine. We’re all for that,” he said. “But the presentation of it in a 40-ounce bottle is bad. We reserve the right to protect our children from being targeted. They should be ashamed of themselves.”

‘Life Has Changed Very Dramatically.’ Meet the ‘Fiji Water Girl’ Who Became the Star of the 2019 Golden Globes

Kelleth Cuthbert is having a pretty good week. In just a couple of hours, the Los Angeles-based model became the Internet crowned Fiji water girl sensation for holding water bottles at the 76th Golden Globes. But if you’ve been on social media recently, you already know that.

Pictures of the “Fiji water girl” in the background of celebrity red carpet photos have been circulating at an impressive pace since Sunday’s broadcast. Though she was just doing her job as one of Fiji’s brand ambassadors at the event (responsible for keeping all the stars hydrated), she ended up in photos with Tony Shalhoub, Idris Elba, Dakota Fanning and even Heidi Klum lovingly kissing her fiancé, which Cuthbert tells TIME was one of her favorite photos of the night.

“I’ve worked with Fiji before, but this has never happened,” Cuthbert says.

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Cuthbert has been working as a fashion model and commercial actress for twelve years, so she is certainly no stranger to Hollywood. “I think it’s fun to work the red carpet and look at the fashion, but I never get starstruck,” she says.

Cuthbert says her Instagram following was around 53,000 before Sunday’s event. At press time, she has 189,000 followers—more than 256 percent increase. Though she’s still working on trucking through all of the emails, messages and comments she’s gotten since the Globes, she’s already been featured on the Late Late Show with James Corden.

And she’s gotten her fair share of marriage proposals on Instagram.

But because Cuthbert herself has gone viral, Fiji inevitably has, too. This marketing ploy was more than successful: Marketing analytics firm Apex Marketing Group estimates that Fiji would have had to spend $ 12 million for the same amount of brand exposure. But this wasn’t the first time the brand has worked with models in a similar fashion. Cuthbert has worked with Fiji at other events, including the Emmys. This one, luckily for both the brand and for the model, just happened to have some incredible photo-ops.

Despite working in the industry for more than a decade, Cuthbert isn’t quite used to her newfound fame. “Just a couple days ago, I was walking my dog with no makeup and sweatpants on—maybe even had my pajamas on. Life has changed very dramatically,” she says. But as for what’s next, she’s excited. “I just have to sift through everything and figure out what offers are good, but I definitely would love to do more acting, more modeling, and just to be really busy—really productive.”
