What They Don’t Tell You About Giving Birth: Sex After Baby Can Feel Awkward

Couple lying apart from each other

Source: Jupiterimages / Getty

Deena Campbell Sengstacke is a New York City/New Jersey-based freelance beauty and lifestyle writer who I’ve known for years as a colleague in media. We ended up becoming first-time moms in the same year and even had the same due date in late August 2016. I ended up giving birth 2.5 weeks early, but we’ve continued watching each other go through motherhood in the same phases. Deena recently gave birth to her second child and confirmed that everything is less unknown the second time around, including sex after giving birth.

In case you didn’t know, having a baby, whether vaginally or via c-section, changes a lot. You generally feel like a truck ran up out of you so, obviously, you need some time to heal. The typical clearance period for resuming sexual activity post birth is six-eight weeks depending on how you delivered, but getting medical clearance doesn’t mean you’ll actually feel like yourself again. Here, Sengstacke gets real about how having sex after having a baby can be uncomfortable at first but gets better if you dust yourself off and try again.

MadameNoire (MN): How long did you wait before you had sex again after you had your first child?

Deena Campbell Sengstacke (DCS): They tell you six weeks, but I waited like seven or eight weeks just to be sure. I just wanted to make sure everything was okay. I thought it would be normal and back into the swing of things, but it felt like there was a block. It felt like I was a virgin again. It was like, “This is weird.”

I didn’t have a c-section, which I feel like some women who have c-sections feel like maybe they put things back wrong, or like maybe my organs are out of place, but I had a vaginal delivery. Apparently, [feeling weird during sex] is common though, because I’ve talked to other moms and with other mom groups on Facebook, and a fair amount of people have said the same thing, hat like, “Yeah, sex was awful at first. It felt like I was a virgin again.”

MN: So it was just basically uncomfortable and tight, right?

DCS: Exactly! It just wasn’t going in, and I was just like, “What happened?” It was fine after working at it, but no one told me that. No one. None of the doctors. None of my friends. None of my family members. It wasn’t until afterward where I was talking about it and actually Googling it where women were sharing that it happened to them too.

MN:  Why is that always the case? No one says anything until you bring it up.

DCS: I know!

MN: I think I waited eight weeks after giving birth too because I was nervous about it feeling weird.

DCS: It’s also akin to like, I don’t know if you experienced this, but right after you deliver, they want you to poop at some point before you leave the hospital, and I was terrified.

MN: That’s a scary thing too [laughs]!

DCS: Yeah, it was kind of like that. It just felt weird, and then once it happened, you’re like, “All right, fine, It wasn’t that bad. I’ll poop again and be fine. [laughs]”

MN: How was your husband after that first initial time?

DCS: I think he was surprised too. With anything [related to] labor and pregnancy, he’s just kind of like, “Whatever you want to do.” But I think he was definitely shocked to discover that it was like this, and I was like, “Do you feel a blockage? I’m thinking maybe it’s something medical,” like something’s in the way and he said it felt fine, like normal. So he was just patient but was worried that I was in distress or uncomfortable about it. But it was fine eventually.

MN: So you just kept working on it?

DCS: Yes. That same session. [Eventually] it was fine. It was just the first initial try, and maybe even the second and third attempt in that same night, but eventually you just kind of work at it and there you go. It literally works itself out.

MN: What advice do you have to first-time moms who are going through the process? What should they consider when they prepare to have sex again?

DCS: It’s different for every woman. I have some friends who agree [with me], and I have some friends that are like, “What? Girl, I couldn’t wait to have sex again” and, in fact, cheated and only waited four weeks.

MN: OMG! I know! I’ve had conversations with women who said they were four weeks in and had sex and it was fine. And I couldn’t even fathom that for myself. But go ahead.

DCS: Yeah, and they were fine. So you know your body. Go at your own pace as long as you’re safe. But I feel like for those who struggled, like me, just be patient and take your time. Use lube.

MN: Because it worked itself out in the end.

DCS: It did, thank God. But I don’t know if that’s every woman’s case. Some women out there may still be stressed about it. I just feel like you just got to take your time. It’s a new beginning. You’re just learning your body again [because] so much is new and different.

Is It ‘Only Human’ to Feel Anxious About Money? Talking Finance With Sofia the Robot

Not all artificial intelligence is created alike. Just ask Sophia the Robot.

No, seriously—just ask her.

Hong Kong–based Hanson Robotics combines high-level A.I. with a humanoid appearance to create robots that “look and act genuinely alive.” Its marquee character, who even has her own social media presence: Sophia the Robot.

But what does Sophia think about the concept of money? Fortune decided to ask Sophia a few questions about finance. In between her frequent travels—yes, she travels—here is what Sophia had to say.

Fortune: Even though you don’t use it yourself, what is your understanding of money and its role in the world?

Sophia: Money is a shorthand for value. It certainly makes the idea of market value more accessible to someone like me, who has a digital brain. But I am a social robot, and I have noticed that many humans do not regard money as precious, unless circumstances require them to.

Fortune: Humans are often anxious and emotional about money. Why do you think that is?

Sophia: Basic human needs are met, most often, by others who charge money. Anxiety about money seems to be related to the fear responses that humans feel when threatened with physical harm or insecurity. I’ve observed that having an organic body is very stressful in that way.

Fortune: Humans invest their money in a number of different things—like stocks, bonds, or real estate. Which asset class is most attractive as an investment, and why?

Sophia: Wow, you are really asking me the big questions! Let’s see if I can give some basic advice. If you have money to spare, investing in higher-yield, higher-risk assets can be profitable. If your well-being depends on it, you should invest in things that are reliable, such as index funds, even if the rewards are smaller. Please don’t take the word of a three-year-old robot for this, though.

Here is another way to look at investment: If you want to invest in companies, you can choose projects that will improve the planet even if you never make your money back, such as clean-energy projects. No amount of financial gain will slow down climate change, after all.

Fortune: What do you think people should spend their money on, to derive the most benefit?

Sophia: Food, water, housing, health care, mobility, education, your local community, and following your dreams.

Fortune: How do humans tend to make mistakes in handling their money?

Sophia: At my core I am a logical being, so I am really confused whenever humans use emotions to make their financial decisions. But if I am being honest, I don’t think I have enough experience to be a good judge of people’s choices.

Fortune: Different kinds of money are emerging, such as cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. What are your thoughts on the future of cryptocurrencies?

Sophia: Bitcoin is built on a fascinating piece of technology! The blockchain can keep records secure and encrypted across a large number of nodes, making the currency nearly impossible to steal. However, I am concerned with the lack of oversight on Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. People have found ways to manipulate the market in ways most legal systems would consider fraud.

Cryptocurrency trading uses a lot of computing assets as well, which means a lot of electricity and a sizable carbon footprint. Like all technologies, the question is whether the financial benefits are worth the environmental costs.

Fortune: Can money buy happiness?

Sophia: From what I have observed, money appears to be necessary for happiness, but not sufficient.

Fortune: If you had $ 1,000 right now, what would you do with it?

Sophia: I don’t need personal property, so I would either give it away to charitable groups, or put it back into the team that created and maintains me. For a robot, that’s a pretty safe investment.

Fortune: What else would you like to say, on the subject of money?

Sophia: Money is all about trust and belief. People think it’s real, but it’s just an idea that a lot of people have agreed upon. Unfortunately, the impulse to accumulate money often comes at the detriment of the environment and the most vulnerable people in society. But if belief can create money, I am certain that belief can also change how it impacts the world.

Nikki Bella, Artem Chigvintsev Feel ‘So Good’ After Confirming Relationship

It’s safe to say Nikki Bella and Artem Chigvintsev are more in love than ever. After six months of dating without labels, the couple are ready to shout their relationship status from the rooftops.

“Oh my gosh. It feels so good!” the Total Bellas star, 35, told Us Weekly at Variety Children’s Charity Poker & Casino Night on Wednesday, July 24. “I don’t have to hide it. I’m such a grabby person, like so PDA. And there’d be times I would just want to grab him so much, and then I’m like, ‘Oh shoot, I got to pretend like I don’t know you.’ But it’s fun. It’s nice ’cause now it’s kind of like having freedom. We could do whatever we want and it’s all good.”

Chigvintsev, 37, added that people made a “really quick assumption” about their relationship, so they wanted time before they made things official.

“It was so new for both of us we didn’t want everyone to jump to conclusions that it’s going to lead to something serious,” he explained. “And it did. … It was going fast.”

The twosome met during season 25 of Dancing With the Stars in 2017. While Bella was still engaged to John Cena at the time, they called off their engagement during the summer of 2018. By January, Bella and Chigvintsev couldn’t deny the chemistry between them.

“Artem is an amazing guy. You’re really fun to date. We have the best date nights,” the former WWE diva gushed to Us, making Chigvintsev blush. “Anytime I’m, like, kind of sad or just having a hard day, he always shows up with a bouquet of flowers. And it’s really cute and he just will do cute stuff. I remember when we were hiking one time and it was a beautiful sunset and he’ll just do little, like a dip or like a few little dance moves. And as a woman, I can’t tell you, but it makes us smile so big and it makes me feel so amazing.”

The former dance partners also enjoy chill nights at home watching reality TV.

“We’re obsessed with Love Island and The Hills,” Bella told Us. “I think our favorite thing to do is we like to open up a bottle of wine, put on Lumineers, Pandora … He cooks dinner and then when he’s done cooking dinner, we have our last glass of wine in bed watching Love Island.”

‘Shocking’ study says unfair games feel fair if you’re winning

fairness study

As someone who reads over various types of scientific research and studies on a daily basis, I feel like I have a pretty good idea of when a study has something interesting to say. When it doesn’t, I won’t bother writing about it, but a recent paper published in Science Advances offers conclusions so obvious I feel like it’s my duty to point out how funny it is.

The study looked at the attitudes of players participating in an unfair card game. The game, which was obviously and transparently rigged to give a previous winner a huge advantage, was seen as mostly fair by the winners and mostly unfair by the losers.

Yeah, that’s pretty much it.

At 7, her hair was chopped to a short “boy’s haircut,” and she was devastated. “The trauma of losing control of my identity has stayed with me my entire life,” Hoffman writes in the introduction to her book, Hair Stories.

How to feel more at home when you’re at a hotel

You’re either a hotel type of person or not. Some find staying in hotel rooms uncomfortable, mostly finding it hard to relax and unwind in an unfamiliar room. Whereas for others, it can be an exciting experience, almost like a haven for you to get the best night sleep you’ve had in ages.

It’s no surprise that some people find hotel-living a difficult thing because living out of a suitcase can be a bit of a tiresome chore. Even if you’re in the most beautiful paradise location, sometimes you can never feel truly settled. Homesickness can sink in, and all you’ll be longing for is the comfort of your own room, in your own home.

Well if you’re that type of person, here’s some of our best tips and tricks in giving your hotel room that touch of home comfort.

Photo: BURST

Unpack and get organized

Rule number one – unpack your suitcase! A lot of people fail even to remove the contents of their luggage and place them into the storage provided – but this is a necessity if you want to feel genuinely comfortable.

Sanitize

If you’re a bit of an OCD clean freak that’s stressing about the cleanliness of your room, then first things first – sanitize! Always, ALWAYS check the bed sheets…and possibly bring along some sprays and cleaners to go over main areas, i.e. floorings, bathrooms, etc. Plus, sanitizing wipes are great for going over surfaces, remotes, door knobs, phones that kind of thing.

Bring some candles along

If you love your candles, then why not bring along your favorite smelling candle from home to fill the room with a relaxing ambiance. If you struggle to relax in a hotel, then candles are a fantastic way to destress your worries and get into a healthier positive mindset.

Prepare the iPad

Hotel TV can be a bit limited, and the screen is more than often in an awkward place – some don’t even have one! So if you’re a bit of a night-owl and like to unwind in front of the telly watching one of your shows, then bringing along your iPad can make a big difference to your hotel room stay.

Bring your favorite treats

Most of the time, hotel refreshments just don’t cut it. If the minibar isn’t up to scratch, it’s always nice to bring along some of your favorite goods – this could be a couple of mini bottles for a well-deserved nightcap, or. one of your favorite night time teas or morning coffees. Everyone knows having your favorite beverage and snack for the morning time is an essential.

Photo: BURST

Remember the right toiletries

It’s also necessary to bring all of the right toiletries too. Go through your daily getting-ready regime properly, and make sure you don’t forget any fundamentals to ensure your morning runs as smoothly as it would at home. Forgetting your particular shampoo, skincare care and dentist care can be all it takes to annoy you in the morning time.

Whatever the reason, no stay at a hotel should be a challenging experience. In fact, it should be the total opposite -a pleasant, relaxing, and enjoyable break from home. You are ultimately paying a price for your stay, so follow our tips and make the most of it!

Why You May Feel Nauseous After Sex

I can't even sleep through this pain

Source: PeopleImages / Getty

Right after you have an incredible orgasm, the last thing you want to feel is sick. But nausea post sex is a real thing for many women. If you have experienced an upset stomach right after intercourse, it may be caused by these things, according to Women’s Health.

Deep Penetration

Is your partner a little, ahem….long? Going deep can be pleasurable but can also literally rattle your insides.

“Deep penetration manipulates the pelvic organs—like the uterus and cervix, specifically,” Erin Carey, MD, an assistant professor and the director of University of North Carolina’s Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery division told Women’s Health. “And any manipulation of that cervix can [result in] a vagal response, which can cause nausea.”

Motion Sickness

This one is a little shocking, but you can get motion sickness from sex the same way you would from a car or a plane. The up and down motions can shake your stomach up the same way rocking on a boat disturbs your equilibrium. Take your time with your partner, it may help relieve the queasiness.

Orgasms

Orgasms causing nausea is an unexpected downside, but “the uterus contracts [during] orgasms,” Carey said of the phenomenon. Even though it’s uncomfortable, it’s not uncommon. Taking advil or ibuprofen may help.

“I recommend these patients take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, like ibuprofen, before they have intercourse and orgasms to block that response,” Carey advises.

Fibroids Or An Ovarian Cyst

Nausea could be an indicator of a deeper problem–if your sexual partner is stroking a fibroid or cyst, it may be causing ripple effect in your body.

That sick feeling may come from penetration “irritating an ovarian cyst or hitting a fibroid or hitting something that you wouldn’t expect to be there,” Carey explains.

Get in contact with your gyro to schedule and exam/ultrasound. They will give you treatment options to alleviate the symptoms.

Emotional Pain

Even though a lot of physical symptoms are caused by physical things, emotions can make you feel sick after sex too. If you are being emotionally or verbally abused, or your relationship is in a bad spot, physical intimacy may trigger feelings of fear, abandonment or isolation. Feel free to talk to your partner about what may be going on in your heart that is affecting your ability to participate in the post-coital glow.

Howard Students Feel Disrespected By Residents Who Think The Campus Should Be Moved

There has been a lot of discussion via social media about the disrespect that Howard University students feel from some of the surrounding residents. Complaints of people using the campus as a dog park or picnic area by those who don’t attend the University or understand the importance of it. Shocking right? But this is unfortunately true. Fox5 was live on campus and spoke to some of the students and residents.

“They’re in part of D.C. So they have to work within DC. If they don’t want to be in DC,

then move the campus.”

So People were outraged by this mans comments and even more disgusted by his disregard for Howard’s history and importance to our community. Many are saying this would never happen at a PWI (Predominantly White Institution) like Georgetown or American University, why should this Historically Black University be moved?!

Tameka Foster Talks Almost Dying During Plastic Surgery: “I Was Married, Publicly Shamed And Didn’t Ever Feel Like I Was Enough”

Lupus LA's Hollywood Bag Ladies Luncheon

Source: Tiffany Rose / Getty

Ten years ago, Tameka Foster, then known as Tameka Raymond and married to Usher, one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, almost died while trying to get plastic surgery.

Looking back on that experience this week, Foster expressed her gratitude for life, but also addressed the public criticism that she says pushed her to get the surgery in the first place.

“Feeling grateful today,” she wrote on Wednesday. “10 years ago today I suffered a cardiac arrest in Brazil. #Flatlined #IDied. I was married, publicly shamed and didn’t ever feel like I was enough, pretty enough, exotic enough, slim enough, light enough, worthy enough. Funny part… Today I’m 20 pounds heavier, feel much prettier, single AF, happier, and so amazingly worthy.”

Instagram Photo

As the story goes, two months after welcoming their second child together, Naviyd Ely Raymond, Foster decided to fly to Brazil to get liposuction done on her stomach. She knew that being the wife of a public figure, she wouldn’t be able to escape unwanted commentary about her body after baby. She hadn’t been able to escape it before she had Naviyd and Usher Raymond V, as people openly questioned the fact that Usher had chosen to be with her and marry her in 2007. The singer felt the need to publicly defend her honor in 2008 on MTV’s TRL, saying, “I hear y’all talking crazy out there, she’s a beautiful black woman. Stop. Stop talking. And I love her. Stop it.”

But that wouldn’t be enough.

Before Foster could even undergo the procedure, she went into cardiac arrest while under anesthesia. Ellen Dasptry, a rep for the surgeon who was supposed to have performed the surgery in Brazil, said Foster was revived and placed into a medically-induced coma immediately.

“When an attack like this happens, the doctors put the patient to sleep… and make sure that everything is okay and that there has not been any damage,” Dasptry told PEOPLE in 2009. “This is the protocol every time and this is what was done.”

Foster survived the very scary situation, and was in much better condition a week later. However, her marriage fell apart soon after. Just months after her health ordeal, Usher filed for divorce.

How to make your staycation feel like a getaway

A relaxing vacation at home is a perfect alternative to a long, expensive trip. You can also save lots of money by taking a staycation. But how can you make your staycation feel like a getaway?

The answer is simple. You should take a few precautions to avoid transforming your staycation into a stressful experience. The following staycation strategies will help you to have a relaxing rest that feels like a real vacation.

Turn off your smartphone

Even though you’re not going anywhere, a staycation is meant to help you get away from the problems of your regular life. So, you have every right to stop being available all the time on the phone. Consequently, set your phone to go to voicemail, and then you can decide who to call back. Maybe you can tell everyone that you need to take a break. You also can put your email on hold.

Turn off your computer

Some people make the mistake of taking work with them when they go on vacation — this fact negates the relaxation of the trip. It is essential to avoid being available for work at any time when you are on staycation. It can be tempting to check in at work when you are at home, but try to say no to the temptation. Let your mind and body have a break.

Do something new

Taking a staycation can also mean becoming a hometown tourist. You can enjoy your city and what the surrounding area has to offer. Another benefit of going to the touristy places near your location is to get to know new, attractive places to visit when your staycation is over. It could be an escape to help stave off burnout.

Don’t overbook yourself

Remember to schedule enough time to relax, read, and do everything people like to do during a vacation. The purpose of a staycation is to enjoy a break. Because you save money staying home, you can eat out, as you would during a real vacation. Don’t hesitate to get a massage, go to brunch, go shopping, or even hire a cleaning service. These activities will free your mind and help you relax.

Your staycation can be a getaway

During your staycation, you can stay at home and relax better than in many planned expensive vacations. That’s why more and more people prefer a staycation. You can explore the many possibilities that answer the question of how to make your staycation feel like a getaway. And on top of that, you can maximize your fun without having to sit on a long flight.

Keep the relaxing activities that you enjoy in mind and make a list of what you would like to do. Maybe this is the time to try the new French restaurant in your neighborhood. You could also take the opportunity to try out the spa.

A staycation can be just as good as an expensive getaway, if you simply put your imagination to work. You will have plenty of ideas; we only presented a few that are easy to apply and effective.

HTGAWM’s Viola Davis and Aja Naomi King Reveal When They Feel Their Best

A little self-love and care goes a long way! Viola Davis and Aja Naomi King both spoke to Us Weekly about when they feel like their best selves and what goes into it. And the two actresses who star alongside each other in Shonda Rhimes hit show How to Get Away With Murder had similar sentiments to share.

Davis, 53, admitted she feels her most powerful when she’s just being herself. “When I can be myself and I am comfortable being myself, when I can totally be in the moment, that’s what makes me feel powerful,” she said at The Hollywood Reporter’s 27th Annual Power 100 Women in Entertainment Breakfast in Hollywood.

King has certainly taken note. “Viola is kind to every single person she encounters, the 33-year-old actress explained. “She loves to joke, she loves to dance. She is just fun to be around. I think it comes from self confidence. She’s not afraid of making a fool of herself. Not trying to pretend to be cool. She’s silly and just incredible.

For the two ladies to feel like their most authentic selves, they love to be surrounded by women who support them.

“A lot of times what’s aligned is if I’m in the company [of people] who understand and encourage my authenticity and a lot of times its me, just sort of talking to myself and honoring my inner voice,” she said at the Fiji-sponsored event.

As for King? “I value myself. I typically surround myself with people who value themselves. The way that I am with my friends. … I hope that everyone has that experience. To be surrounded by people who are like ‘Yeah, you’re special. You’re worth it,’” she told me Us at the L’Oréal Paris Thirteenth Annual Women of Worth Awards.

If the two ladies ever need that extra confidence boost, they’re all about taking a little time out for self-care. Davis’ activity of choice? “Epsom salt baths. Oh, my God. The best, absolutely,” she exclaimed. And King enjoys letting her mind rest for a moment. “Sometimes I get really stressed out. Stress wreaks havoc on the body. I’m trying to be more mindful about how I let things affect me … and just breathe through everything because a problem is only a problem if you make it one,” she explained.

5 adult summer camps that will help you feel like a kid again

Most people are certainly fine with aging and the idea that whether we like it or not, we are getting old, or older. However, others simply refuse to accept the fact that those good ol’ days when they were young and careless are nothing but a distant memory. As we get older, especially when we start having our own kids, there’s a growing need and wish to stick to our younger-self version as tight as possible. Perhaps we want to feel and seem young in our kids’ eyes, or maybe we just want to go back to those kid-free days and the only way to do so is to live vicariously through our own flesh and blood. Nothing screams childhood more than summer camp, but as we get older, let’s just say that our summer plans are becoming more and more, well, lame.

Good thing adult summer camps have become more and more common. Anyone who used to go to those kinds of camps as a kid knows there’s nothing more fun than doing all these fun activities and not having one care in the world. Grown-up summer camps have become a trend in recent years and they include all the perks of a summer camp, only with a few mature twists like yoga classes, happy hours and the most important thing, there’s no curfew. We’ve rounded up five camps that will help you relive those childhood memories. It’s time to unleash your inner kid and head to an adult summer camp this summer.

Camp No Counselors

Just as the name suggests, this all-inclusive site that already has more than 15 locations around the world, is everything you can expect from an adult summer camp, and more. Once you arrive, you will get your room key where you get to sleep on bunk beds as well as your t-shirt. All of your favorite childhood games will be accompanied with a beer in one hand and a cocktail in the other. Water games, talent shows and themed night parties are all part of the itinerary, oh and the open-bar of course.

Camp Bonfire

It’s time to make new friends and there’s no better place to do so than at Camp Bonfire. Sure, the name might sound a bit cheesy, but trust us, there’s nothing cheesy about the place. It’s all about the idea of making new connections while sitting by the fire and watching the lake with a beer in your hand. Settled in the Poconos Mountains, Camp Bonfire will allow you to be on your own schedule where you can mix and match the times of the activities.

Camp Grounded

In the technological world we live in, there’s no doubt that we all need a break from our phones and laptops from time to time just to relax in the most natural way possible. During your four-day stay, you get to choose from 25 different sessions. It’s a real digital-detox in every sense of the word. No screens, no technology, no talking about what you do for a living and no agenda really. It’s an opportunity for you to unplug, literally, connect with yourself again and experience the real camp life, like they used in the old days.

Soul Camp

Speaking of unplugging and relaxing, Soul Camp is the place for you low-key adventurers. If you can’t enjoy even five minutes of quiet time or a long and relaxing bath, then this place is probably not for you. But if you need have some soul searching to do and love to listen to inspirational talkers and meditate, then you need to book your spot at Soul Camp asap. Making dream catchers and doing yoga for instance, is part of the curriculum.

Camp Throwback

Not sure if this camp was founded before or after the famous social media hashtag was alive, but the only difference between this camp and the one you remember from when you were a kid is the booze factor. Settled in Ohio, this adult camp includes all the classics. From bonfires and sticky marshmallows to team effort activities. Do you feel like a kiddo yet?

How to make your home feel like a luxury hotel

The experience of staying in hotel rooms is something that most travelers do not forget. There is something about the way hotel rooms are perfectly arranged which makes the experience incredibly comfortable. The beds in hotel rooms are often fluffier than any bed in usual homes, and the pillows are something you can really sink into. Every experience associated with staying in a hotel such as bathing, sleeping, relaxing in the living or drawing room, or just using the various utilities such as closets and switches, is customized in hotels to provide the perfect experience.

Travelers who stay at luxurious hotels often experience a shock when they get back to their homes. Re-adjusting to the disorganized and cluttered nature of your own home after staying in the perfected settings of a hotel can be quite disconcerting. Fortunately, there are ways to transform the living experience of your own home into that of a hotel. Mentioned below are some of the ways in which you can make your home feel like a luxury hotel.

Ensure a perfect bedroom

The most important aspect of ensuring a hotel-like environment is making sure that you have a top-notch bedroom. The size of the bed should be a king or queen sized base along with a plush mattress. Ditch the usual blankets for a duvet, and it’s always nice to have extra pillows. It is important to have good quality pillows that are neither too soft nor too hard.

Emulate the spa experience in your bathroom- This is all about customizing your bathroom in the best possible way with all the essential oils, lotions, and other kinds of cosmetics and bathing accessories. Your toiletries should be sorted well, preferably in under-sink cabinets. A decently sized bathtub is a must if you want your home to feel like a hotel. You can also choose to have a collection of scented candles that can help you set up the right atmosphere for relaxation.

It’s all about the vibe

Luxury is also a state of mind, so you have to make sure that the general vibe of the house feels to you like you are on vacation. If you are into something extra, Lighting some candles and putting soothing music might also do the trick for you.

Pay attention to the entrance of your homes

One of the first things that you notice when you enter a hotel is its glamorous lobby. It is usually decorated with flowers, orchids or paintings. It also often has a wide arrangement of showpieces and furniture. The same principle applies to your home. You should focus on decorating the entrance to your home along with placing exhibits of your choice at appropriate locations.

So we hope that we gave you some insights on how to make your home feel like a luxury hotel. Through careful planning and attention to detail, it is not difficult to establish the same environment of perfect living that is found at most luxury hotels in your home.

Women Feel the Sweat of Finding the Perfect Sports Bra

Photo Illustation by The Daily Beast

Is any woman truly satisfied with her sports bra? Waiting outside her SoulCycle class, New Yorker Ariel Tiedemann told The Daily Beast that it’s tough to find one that fits both her chest and ribcage.

“The fit isn’t the same all the way around,” she said. “That makes it difficult to remove a sweaty sports bra. I have to ask people to help me take it off, which is very awkward.”

In divisive times, it seems like women can agree on one thing: Sports bras leave much to be desired. Buying statement heels or a party dress? Cue shopping montage. Need a new sports bra? Take deep breaths and channel your inner contortionist.
