Arrest Made In Connection To The Fatal Stabbing Of New York Teen

Events surrounding the death of 16-year-old Khaseen Morris are beginning to unfold and the police have reportedly made an arrest.

On the afternoon of September 16, a group of teenagers gathered in a parking lot and 18-year-old Tyler Flach allegedly attacked Morris because he was seen with another boy’s ex girlfriend walking home from school the day before.

Initially, police had no witnesses and urged students to come forward with information. According to New York City’s ABC news, an anonymous witness said in a statement that Morris was ambushed by a group of teens. He passed away after being taken to the hospital later that night.

According to ABC, Flach reportedly was arrested on September 18, and charged with second-degree murder. Nassau County Police Homicide Division made statements that students have identified people involved in the incident. Police also allege that this attack was targeted, as Morris received threatening texts prior to the fight.

Derry Girls is the show about your awkward teen years that you need to watch

Derry Girls is the show about your awkward teen years that you need to watch

Derry Girls is the show about your awkward teen years that you need to watch

Let’s talk about Derry Girls for a minute: In the current, over-saturated TV landscape, the Netflix series cuts through the clutter. For those who are unfortunate enough to have not seen it yet, Derry Girls is a perfect high school sitcom about five friends attending an all-girls Catholic school during The Troubles in Northern Ireland. The stunning ensemble of supporting characters include a very underwhelmed nun who hates her job, a mother who can’t even believe that her daughter wants more than what she has, and a father who will never be good enough for his father-in-law. The specificity of the characters is what makes the show shine.

By setting the series during The Troubles in Northern Ireland, a turbulent time in history, Derry Girls uses real-life historical moments to strengthen the comedy. It takes shots at the British, devoting an entire episode to the Irish Catholic girls’ school getting to know the English Protestant boys’ school. Yes, of course it breaks down that historical conflict, but what really matters is how this time period relates to the main characters.

This description might make the series sound like historical fiction, but I can assure you that Derry Girls is a sitcom—a character-driven sitcom. It never feels like the writers are spinning their wheels, trying to put these well-developed characters in goofy situations so the audience can get a quick laugh. These characters inhabit a world that is not beautiful or easily put together—their homes and schools are a mess. If you were hoping for a lighter teen show a la Saved by the Bell or Boy Meets World, you’re not going to find that here because Derry Girls digs into the grungy, real, and hilarious world of actual high school teenagers. Protagonist Erin leads the group of five friends with her anxiety and brown-nosing, and her life is our way into their reality. Erin lives in a dream world where her high school poetry is good enough to impress her very cool teacher and win a Pulitzer. She’s every one of us who ever shushed other students so that the teacher could talk. (I’m a life-long Erin.)

Clare, Erin’s second-in-command, is a hyper, stressed-out possum of a girl who is struggling with her sexuality and trying to protect her reputation. She’s terrified of authority—pointing to the fact that high school brings out all kinds of tendencies, from brown-nosing to rebelling. We all fell somewhere on that spectrum growing up. Personally, I was a teacher’s pet through and through and see myself most in Clare.

Michelle, the loud, brash outgoing misfit of the group, just wants to kiss guys and not take shit from anyone (her badass eyeliner is a subtle, perfect touch). Orla, tagging along with a very vacant look in her eyes, somehow slides through every scuffle untouched. And finally, James, who is British (built-in conflict! We love it!) and goes to their girls’ school because everyone fears that, as a Brit, he’ll get the shit beat out of him at a Northern Ireland boys school. (They’re not wrong.) This is one of those instances where the writers use of history sharpens comedy. For two seasons and counting, James has been able to provide context for jokes referencing the time period because it’s geniusly built into his purpose on the show.

“With conflict ravaging their doorstep, they are still most worried about impressing their cool teacher and keeping their diaries out of snooping hands.”

The main conflict of the main characters’ lives is not The Troubles, so that’s not the focus of the show either. They’re worried about school papers, meeting hot Protestant boys, and making goo-goo eyes over hot priests (they did it first, Fleabag). The audience POV is that of the girls, not of the outside world. Their characters’ interactions, needs, and wants are the highest stakes in the game. With conflict ravaging their doorstep, they are still most worried about impressing their cool teacher and keeping their diaries out of snooping hands.

In this group of friends, each of their strengths is another’s weakness, and that’s where their relationships work so well. Characters are pushed out of their comfort zones by each other, immediately yielding wonderful and hilarious results. Michelle’s overtly sexual behavior pushes the sexually immature Erin to try her best to flirt, while Clare’s need to people please consistently gets in Michelle’s way.

Derry Girls is spectacular. Who among us hasn’t pretended that we’re giving a speech to thousands while we’re sitting in our bathtub? Its gritty, honest, raw, bright, and ultimately hilarious detailed world resurrects my high school self that just wants to headline the ninth grade talent show.

For Teen Tennis Phenom Coco Gauff, Wimbledon Is Just the Beginning

After an astronomical rise, re-entry can feel strange. When Coco Gauff, 15, came back to her hometown of Delray Beach, Fla., in July, following a star turn at Wimbledon where she defeated her idol Venus Williams and became the youngest woman to reach the fourth round of the world’s most prestigious tennis tournament since Jennifer Capriati in 1991, she found a lot had changed. One Saturday afternoon, the gym in which she sometimes shoots hoops with her father hosted a packed homecoming celebration in her honor. She also quickly learned to leave a few minutes earlier for appointments, since strangers inevitably stop to ask her for a selfie.

On one of those Florida summer mornings when the temperature reads 87°F but it feels like 150°F, wide-eyed admirers wandered over to a court where she was conducting a routine training session, not quite believing that was actually Coco Gauff working on her serve. “Is there an admission charge to watch?” one guy asked. (No, replied Coco’s dad Corey. If you want to stand in this heat, he said, we should pay you.) A fellow from Amsterdam, in town visiting friends, came by to offer his respects. An older woman told Gauff she was so proud of her, and just lingered before finally leaving for her pickleball game.

Eventually a group of kids from the Delray Beach Youth Tennis Foundation, who happened to be attending a clinic a few courts over, migrated toward Gauff. Her agent had told a foundation rep she was too busy practicing to stop for a picture. But during a break, Gauff wasn’t about to keep at arm’s length from newfound fans–especially ones her own age. “Can I have a hug?” asked one girl before a group shot. Gauff obliged.

“How did you feel at Wimbledon with all those eyes on you?” asked a boy. Gauff’s reply: “I tried to pretend I was here.”

That mind trick worked wonderfully, as Gauff showed that no moment will overwhelm her. A few days after taking a science exam, she nonetheless managed her 6-4, 6-4 first-round win over Williams, a five-time Wimbledon champ, on July 1, capturing the world’s attention. “On my science test, I got a B,” Gauff said afterward. “Today I would give myself an A.” Even better, she wasn’t done with her high-grade play.

“Some people were probably saying this was one time, this was the match of her life,” Gauff says while eating zucchini pasta for lunch at a Delray Beach restaurant that blares classic rock songs that are nowhere near her playlist. She sometimes stretches a braid across her chin while talking. “I had those thoughts as well.” So she immediately put the Venus win behind her and pulled off two more victories, including a three-set comeback thriller on Centre Court against Polona Hercog, who had two match points but couldn’t put the teen away. “I learned that I’m capable of a lot of things,” says Gauff. Her magical run didn’t end until a fourth-round loss to eventual champ Simona Halep, who defeated Serena Williams in the final. “I learned to fight.”

Gauff earned social-media shout-outs from A-listers like Michelle Obama–the pair met in D.C. in August–Magic Johnson, Snoop Dogg and Jaden Smith, one of her favorite singers. Her Instagram following, 30,000 before Wimbledon, is nearly 400,000. Companies of all kinds–airlines, hotels, banks, cosmetics makers–have reached out to discuss possible sponsorship deals. Seven years ago, Gauff attended Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day at the U.S. Open as a spectator. This year, she’ll take the stage and sign autographs in New York as a featured guest before playing in the tournament’s main draw.

Tennis cognoscenti have long rushed to anoint the “next Serena,” an unfair label for any young player trying to make her way. Gauff shone in a single Grand Slam tournament, and she’s not yet old enough to drive a car, though she could surely afford one with her $ 227,786 in Wimbledon winnings. But her breakout effort is far from a fluke. Two years ago, she was the youngest to ever reach the U.S. Open girls’ final. In May, she became the youngest player to win a women’s qualifying match at the French Open. Gauff arrived ahead of schedule. And she declines to tamp down expectations.

Her goal? “It’s to be the greatest,” she says. Of all time? “Yes.”

Gauff’s always been a step ahead. Her mom Candi, who ran track at Florida State, says her daughter could recognize letters, in any font, when she was 2. She’d keep up with her 10-year-old cousins on a track when she was 3. While most kids nod off in church or stare at the ceiling on field trips, Gauff would take notes. In preschool, she drew a picture of her favorite food: broccoli.

Corey, who played point guard at Division 1 Georgia State University, got his daughter a pink racket when she was 4: she’d spend hours hitting a ball against the garage. After Coco finished second grade, they moved from Atlanta to Delray Beach, where Corey and Candi had grown up, to give Coco access to better tennis training. Candi started homeschooling her, which gave Coco more-flexible hours to practice. (She’s starting 10th grade.)

At Wimbledon, Hercog remarked that Gauff is “probably older in her head than the numbers show.” Gauff agrees with that assessment, tennis-wise. “Off the court,” she says, “I don’t feel mature.” In other words, she feels 15. She still plays hide-and-seek in the house with her brothers Cody, 11, and Cameron, 6; Cody accidentally broke her Junior Fed Cup trophy during one game. When their mom tells them to stop throwing stuff around, they often ignore her. “We’ll do anything,” Gauff says, “just to make my parents mad.”

Gauff says she’s never been on a date. “But I help my friends a lot,” she says. “I’m more a wingwoman.” She plans to get her learner’s permit after the Open but has no plans to start staying out late, since tennis wears her out enough. “The only reason I want my license,” she says, “is to go to Chick-fil-A.” She doesn’t feel like she’s missing adolescent milestones as she travels the world for tennis. “I want to go to prom and all of that, but I definitely can make time to have that,” says Gauff. Plus, she notes, her friends “don’t really enjoy the high school experience.” That may just be typical teen chatter, but it appears to help spare Gauff any regrets.

For now, Gauff’s all about the game. She’s spent the weeks before the U.S. Open adding more depth to her shots. Parents are often cautioned against setting unrealistic goals for kids, to prevent disappointment. But for years Corey has told his daughter she can be the “GOAT”: greatest of all time. “When you’re young, you just believe anything,” says Gauff. “When I got older, I really believed it for an actual reason, instead of just believing ’cause my dad told me.” So she’s comfortable declaring her intentions. “A lot of people maybe think of it as cocky,” she says. “But I think it’s just confidence. I think I can beat anyone on the court.”

Gauff speaks with conviction, but she’s not brash. She won’t, for example, predict that she’ll pass Serena’s 23 Grand Slam wins. “But I know I can do it,” Gauff says. Lunch ends; as she leaves the restaurant, the maître d’ and a cook pop out to take a picture with her. Welcome to Coco Gauff’s new normal. Which has only just begun.

This appears in the September 02, 2019 issue of TIME.

Body of Nude Teen Found in Malaysian Jungle Thought to Be Missing 15-Year-Old Irish Girl

Lim Huey Teng/Reuters

Authorities in Malaysia say they are certain that the body of a nude teen found near a stream in the Dusun rain forest is that of a 15-year-old missing Irish teenager with learning disabilities.

The teen, Nora Anne Quoirin, disappeared in the early morning hours of Aug. 4 from a resort in Seremban where she was vacationing with her family. She was last seen barefoot and wearing only a night shirt.

“Nora is our first child,” the family said in a statement after she disappeared. “She has been vulnerable since the day she was born. She is so precious to us and our hearts are breaking. We are appealing to anyone who has information about Nora to help us find her.”

Bobby Berk of ‘Queer Eye’ on the Worst Job He’s Ever Had, Doing Drag as Teen, and Filming in Japan

Photo Illustration by Elizabeth Brockway/The Daily Beast/Getty

It’s hard to believe that Queer Eye first premiered just a little over a year and a half ago, in February 2018. Already in its fourth season, the series has solidified its spot atop our collective Netflix queue as a sort of streaming restorative: A rare, feel-good binge-watch without excessive violence, needless drama, or worse, unsavory politics. It’s the type of show that you could cry or fall asleep to—in the best possible way.

It’s equally hard to believe that it’s only been about a year and a half since we first met the “Fab Five,” or, as The Daily Beast’s Kevin Fallon refers to them, “the Gay Beatles.” In that short time, Antoni, Bobby, Jonathan, Karamo, and Tan have skyrocketed to both fame and, yes, first-name terms with both viewers and critics.

“We’re kind of pumping out so many seasons at once that we can’t keep track of it sometimes,” Bobby Berk tells me with a laugh. When we speak on the phone, he is in Philadelphia working on the show’s next season, filming six days a week because of its abbreviated production timeline. This is not to mention an upcoming special shot in Japan, already wrapped and set to premiere sometime later this year.

Say What Now? Georgia Teen Gets Life Sentence for Strangling His Sister Over the Wi-Fi Password

18-year-old Kevon Watkins was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison for strangling Alexus Breanna Watkins, his 20-year-old sister, during an argument over the family’s Wi-Fi password.

via AJC:

Watkins, who was 16 at the time of the murder, waived his right to a jury trial, opting instead to have a judge hear testimony and decide his fate.

The incident began as an argument between the teenager and his mother after Kevon Watkins changed the Wi-Fi password so he could play video games without interruption, prosecutors said.

Fearing the confrontation would turn physical, Alexus Watkins came to her mother’s aid, prosecutor Jason Martin argued in court. Kevon and Alexus tussled and fell to the floor, authorities said. When their mother couldn’t separate her children, she called for help.

Prosecutors said Kevon held his sister in a chokehold for about 15 minutes, and one Bibb County deputy testified the 16-year-old was still choking her when authorities arrived 10 minutes after the 911 call.

Watkins eventually released the woman and deputies tried to resuscitate her. She was declared dead at a hospital later that night.

Martin argued that although Watkins didn’t intend to kill his sister, he intentionally placed her in the chokehold that led to her death.

“This act of violence resulted in an unspeakable tragedy for this family,” Macon DA David Cooke said. “I hope this verdict and sentence closes the door on this chapter of their lives and that they will be able to begin to heal.”

Senseless.

Cuba Gooding Jr. Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Social Media Star Claudia Oshry When She Was A Teen

Does Cuba Gooding Jr. have a checkered that’s slowly coming to light?

Following his arrest last week for allegedly groping a woman at a NYC bar, social media star Claudia Oshry has come forward with claims that the actor sexually assaulted her when she was 16 years old. It’s yet another abuse allegation against the embattled star that his lawyer has shot down.

As reported by Page Six, Oshry, 24, who rose to fame for her Instagram account “Girl With No Job,” made the revelation on her “The Morning Toast” podcast last week, a day before Cuba surrendered to the NYPD and was charged with groping a woman at a rooftop bar in Midtown.

“At the end of the day, like, I don’t know if I’ve ever considered myself to be, like, a victim of sexual assault because I’m not …,” said Oshry. “But yes, when I was in high school — I was f–king 16 years old, Cuba Gooding Jr. put his finger up my butt, and I felt wild.

“Like, I felt — I don’t even know what the right word is. And now, it’s just become, like, a part of who I am. It’s a part of my story.”

Gooding’s attorney, Mark Heller has slammed her accusation.

“Cuba says he has no knowledge as to who this woman is and certainly knows something like that never happened,” Heller told The Post.

On the podcast, Oshry said she worked the story about the Oscar winner in part of her stand-up comedy act — and audience members have come up to her afterwards to share with her their own stories of Gooding getting too close for comfort while partying hard at bars.

“At least once every show, someone who comes up to me, they’re like, ‘Oh my God! Me and my friends were at a club and the same thing happened to me’ or ‘the same thing happened to my friend,’” she said.

“This is not the first time that I’ve heard, but this is the first time I’ve heard that police are involved.”

Oshry has noting but praise for the anonymous 30-year-old woman who came forward last week to tell cops Gooding grabbed her breast at the Magic Hour Rooftop Bar and Lounge on Seventh Avenue.

“Good on this, girl,” Oshry said. “Because how many f–king people is he going to grope before one of them calls the police? Mine was 10 years ago!”

Cuba has pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual abuse and forcible touching.

Meanwhile, another woman also came forward last week with accusations that he touched her inappropriately more than a decade ago.

Teen back to running marathons after battling lymphoma

In late 2016, Jacob Grimstead was riding high after completing a half-marathon with his dad on Catalina Island. A week later, the 14-year-old made an unsettling discovery: a golf ball-sized lump near his collarbone.

His parents, Bill and Sarah, examined the mass that seemed to have appeared out of nowhere and made a same-day appointment with pediatrician Nayana Patel, MD. By 5 p.m., after X-rays and blood work, Jacob was scheduled for a follow-up appointment the next day with Liesl Mathias, MD, a pediatric hematologist-oncologist, followed by more scans and a biopsy.

One week to the day after his first medical appointment, Jacob received his diagnosis: stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“I knew I was going to be in good hands,” said Jacob, “but just the fact that I had cancer and that it was stage 4 — it kind of scared me.”

‘The best team you could wish for’

Dr. Mathias worked closely with colleagues Kenji Morimoto, MD, and Neha Vaghasia, MD, to treat Jacob. They discussed his test results, made a treatment plan, and served as part of a broad support network for the Grimstead family.

After 5 rounds of chemotherapy, Jacob is now in complete remission and deeply grateful to his doctors, nurses, and therapists.

“They cared for me and helped me out with every single thing I needed,” he said. “They were the best team you could wish for.”

Pro-Gun Parkland Teen Kyle Kashuv Apologizes for ‘Inflammatory’ Racial Comments

Scott Olson/Getty

Pro-gun rights Parkland shooting survivor Kyle Kashuv apologized Thursday night for making “offensive” comments in high school, an apparent reference to newly uncovered screenshots that purport to show the star activist repeatedly using anti-black racial slurs years ago.

“We were 16-year-olds making idiotic comments, using callous and inflammatory language in an effort to be as extreme and shocking as possible,” Kashuv said in a statement he posted to Twitter.

Kashuv’s statement doesn’t say exactly what he’s apologizing for, but it appears to refer to years-old writing in a Google Doc and over text messages. The racial slur-filled messages, allegedly from Kashuv, have circulated among right-wing activists and Parkland students on Twitter over the past week.

Mom Berated Daughter for ‘Not Doing Your F**king Job!’ as They Strangled Pregnant Teen: Prosecutors

Chicago Police Department

As 19-year-old Marlen Ochoa-Lopez struggled for her life, slipping her fingers under the electrical cable around her neck, her accused killer allegedly yelled at her own daughter for help with the grisly killing: “You’re not doing your fucking job!”

Following her mother’s order, 24-year-old Desiree Figueroa allegedly pried the nine-month pregnant teenager’s fingers from the cord and then brought 46-year-old Clarisa Figueroa a butcher’s knife from the kitchen, which they used to cut Ochoa-Lopez’s baby from her womb.

The grisly new details in the murder of the pregnant teen were revealed by Cook County prosecutors in court Friday.

Prosecutors: Alaska Teen Boasted of Goal to ‘Beat Hitler’s Kill Count,’ Manufactured Weapons

Chris Furlong/Getty

An 18-year-old Alaska man has been arrested after taking to social media to declare “Let’s beat Hitler’s kill count” and referencing “shooting up” a synagogue—all while allegedly making homemade silencers and buying parts for a machine gun.

Prosecutors say the man, Michael Lee Graves, showed all the signs of a mass shooter preparing for a massacre, and a federal judge on Tuesday ordered that he remain in custody, according to the Anchorage Daily News.

In an affidavit unsealed Tuesday, the FBI described how it received a tip in late April that Graves may commit an act of violence related to the racist views he spouted on social media. Agent Joshua Rongitsch noted that Graves’ social media posts also make “many mentions of guns and acquiring guns and large capacity magazines.”

Teen Boy and Girl Shoot Up Colorado STEM School in ‘Vicious Act of Violence’

Tom Cooper / Getty Images

Twenty years after the Columbine High School massacre, two pistol-packing students walked into their school just seven miles away and opened fire, killing one teenager and wounding eight others.

Police took into custody two suspects at STEM School Highland Ranch outside Denver: 18-year-old Devon Erickson and a younger student whom police said they initially misidentified as a boy but later realized was a girl.

“It was a very confusing situation,” Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said at a Wednesday morning press conference. “We originally thought the juvenile was a male by appearance.”

For The First Time Ever, Miss USA, Miss Teen USA And Miss America Are All Black Women!

Celebrities Visit Hallmark's "Home & Family"

Source: Paul Archuleta / Getty

Last night, North Carolina’s Chelsie Kryst made history when she was announced as Miss USA. Not only was she the latest Black woman to wear the crown, she helped pull off a historic trifecta.

For the first time ever, three Black women are currently wearing crowns as the 2019 Miss USA, Miss Teen USA and Miss America.

Kryst joined pageant winners 2019 Miss America Nia Franklin (pictured) and recently crowned 2019 Miss Teen USA Kaliegh Garris.

Kryst is a civil litigation attorney who received her law degree and MBA from Wake Forest University. During the pageant, fans of Kryst noticed that she wore her natural hair and unlike prior contests, she joined Garris in bypassing the need to straighten their hair in favor of their natural look.

Garris spoke to Refinery21 about her decision saying, “There were a few naysayers saying, ‘You look better with straight hair,’ or ‘You should put in extensions and straighten your natural hair. As Miss Connecticut Teen USA, there are girls who would look at me in awe because they’ve always had the image of straight hair in pageants. Being able to spread the message of diversity, being yourself, and being confident in your curly, natural hair is something that I’m really looking forward to with my new national title.”

The closest Black women had to completing the trifecta before last night was in 2012 when Black women simultaneously wore crowns as Miss Teen USA and Miss USA.

Congrats ladies!

Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade & Other Celebs Donate To Funeral For Black Gay Teen Who Committed Suicide

2017 CFDA Fashion Awards - Arrivals

Source: Dimitrios Kambouris / Getty

Gabrielle Union, her husband Dwyane Wade and other celebs have donated to the family of Nigel Shelby, a 15-year-old who recently killed himself after being bullied for being gay.

According to TMZ, sources told them that the couple along with Lena Waithe, Ludacris and Janelle Monae, helped donate to Shelby’s mother, Camika Shelby, who put her son to rest in a beautiful ceremony on Saturday (April 27). The family also raised over $ 40,000 from a separate GoFundMe campaign.

Last month, Nigel sadly made headlines when he took his life after battling depression and being bullied for his sexual orientation by students at Huntsville High School. Apparently, Nigel came out two years ago.

The Alabama teen’s mother told ABC News that her son was a “a vibrant, outgoing and fun-loving child who would do anything he could to make others smile.”

“Nigel was a sweetheart. He loved everybody, he would help anybody. He was an angel,” Shelby said. “I just wish people could’ve seen how special he was while he was still here.”

Camika also shared that her son was seeking counseling and was close to being medicated for his mental health issues. But he still struggled with the fact that he was gay.

“I wish he could have been fully accepted while he was here because it was hard for him. He struggled,” she said.

“He used to ask me sometimes ‘Mama, why couldn’t I just be normal?’ And I’m like, ‘Baby, you are normal. Who you choose to love has nothing to do with the person that you are.’”

“I’m truly blessed that I got to spend 15 years with this child, but it also makes me so sad to know that he’s no longer with me. He was my motivation to keep going. He always kept me lifted up, so to not have that anymore is heartbreaking,” she said.

Even with a loving and accepting parent, Nigel still took his life, which is why it’s so incredibly important that as a community we hold up and love our Black LGBT children. Every single last one of us.

A2016 report released by the Center for American Progress found that Black LGBTQ folks experience higher rates of homelessness during youth than their peers; have higher rates of unemployment or underemployment; and face overall lower rates of pay and higher rates of poverty.

Another report conducted by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network found that nearly half of Black/African-American LGBTQ students felt unsafe due to their sexual orientation; over a third felt unsafe because of their gender expression and nearly 40 percent of Black/ African-American students were more likely to experience in-school discipline.

So it’s clear that our children need us now more than ever. All Black lives matter.

Rest in power Nigel.

Game of Thrones star Hannah Murray admits playing anorexic teen on Skins was ‘one of the happiest times of her life’

GAME Of Thrones’ Hannah Murray has admitted that playing anorexic teen Cassie Ainsworth on E4 drama Skins remains one of her happiest work memories – despite finding international super-stardom in the HBO fantasy series.

The 29-year-old actress appeared on Lorraine earlier today, where she admitted that her 2007-2008 castmates are like her “siblings”.

Hannah appeared on Lorraine earlier today

Speaking about the popular show, Hannah said: “Some of the happiest times of my life, I fell in love with acting so hard and fast when I first started working on Skins.

“Then those people that I worked with on the show are like my best friends, they are almost like my siblings really, we are that close.

“I see them all the time, they’re such an important part of my life – that thread from that first job is still very, very consistent.”

The star took a break from acting to further her studies after finding fame in Skins, landing the recurring role of wildling Gilly in the second series of Game of Thrones in 2012.

Together with Samwell Tarly, Gilly played a key role in discovering the truth about Jon Snow’s legitimate parentage – and is one of the few characters to have survived to see in the final series of the show.

Speaking to Christine Lampard on the ITV breakfast show, Hannah revealed that she struggles to keep the top secret content of the show under wraps – and even spoiled the show for one of her friends at his birthday party.

She explained: “I always want to tell everyone, I once ruined a big spoiler for my friend at his birthday party – I just decided to tell him everything.

Joe plays Gendry in Game of Thrones – but he and Hannah are yet to share a scene together

“I am always worried I am going to get in trouble, so I am relieved the show is coming out so I can finally talk about it with everyone.”

The much-anticipated final series of Game of Thrones hit our screens in the early hours of Monday morning, with Hannah’s fellow Skins’ alumni, Joe Dempsie, also reprising his role of Gendry for the season.

Hannah previously confessed that she has always hoped Gilly and Gendry’s storylines will cross so that she can be reunited with her close pal on set.

As of yet, the two characters haven’t met in Westeros – and with just five episodes left of the hit series, the odds of an on-screen Skins reunion aren’t looking too likely.

Teen Charged With Making Racist Threats In Charlottesville

(The Daily Progress via AP)

A 17-year-old boy was charged Friday with making online threats of “ethnic cleansing” against Black and Hispanic students at the public high school in Charlottesville, Virginia, a city that was the site of a deadly white nationalist rally in 2017.

The threats had shut down the city’s public schools on Thursday and Friday, drawing the community closer together but also sparking fear in a city that witnessed racial violence firsthand.

Aware that this college town has become synonymous with racial strife, city leaders used a news conference to speak out against racism and even rebuke past comments by President Donald Trump.

“We want the community and the world to know that hate is not welcomed in Charlottesville,” police Chief RaShall Brackney said. “Violence is not welcomed in Charlottesville. Intolerance is not welcomed in Charlottesville.”

She added: “And in Charlottesville and around the globe, we stand firmly in stating: There are not ‘very fine people’ on both sides of this issue.”

Brackney’s comment appeared to reference statements Trump made in the days after violence broke out in the city during the summer of 2017. A loosely connected mix of white nationalists, neo-Nazis and other far-right extremists had assembled to protest the city’s decision to remove a towering statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. Heather Heyer, 32, was killed when a man plowed his car into a crowd of counterprotesters.

In the days afterward, Trump acknowledged there were “some very bad people” looking for trouble in the group protesting plans to remove the statue. “But you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides,” he said.

Charlottesville police released few details about the teen who was arrested Friday because he was a juvenile. But they said he lives outside the city in Albemarle County and does not attend Charlottesville’s schools.

When asked about his race, police said the suspect identifies as Portuguese.

The teen faces a felony charge of threatening to commit serious bodily harm on school property. He is also charged with a misdemeanor count of harassment by computer.

Chief Brackney said the student used “vile and racially charged language” on 4chan, a shadowy site known for, among other things, cruel hoaxes and political extremism.

She said detective work helped find the teen and that internet providers and law enforcement professionals “nationally, internationally” helped the department investigate.

Rosa Atkins, the superintendent of Charlottesville schools, said the threat provoked real fear and anxiety. School counselors and others are preparing for the students’ return Monday.

“Since August 2017, our community has made a good-faith effort to have these difficult conversations about race and equity, and build trust and relationships in our school system and in our community,” she said. “And this comment attempted, although it failed, to undermine our efforts, and our community.”

Federal regulators want to ban the sale of most flavored e-cigarettes at retail locations like gas stations and convenience stores. They also want to require anyone buying e-cigarettes online to verify their age. The new restrictions come as the Food and Drug Administration has been trying to rein in a dramatic increase in vaping by young people. Smoking of traditional tobacco cigarettes has fallen to a record low, but the popularity of e-cigarettes among youth is raising alarm bells.
