Walking On Water: $3,000 ‘Jesus Shoes’ Filled With Holy Water Sell Out In Minutes

Brooklyn-based brand MSHF is bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase, “walking on water.” They released a limited-edition NIke Air Max 97 sneaker injected with holy water from the Jordan River and they sold out within minutes after the launch.

“We were wondering, what would a collab with Jesus Christ look like?” head of commerce, Daniel Greenberg, told New York Post. “As a Jew myself, the only thing I knew was that he walked on water.”

The holy water in the ‘Jesus shoes’ can be seen through the sole of the sneaker next to the Bible verse, Matthew 14:25 (the story of Jesus walking on water). Other Christian symbols on the shoe include a single blood drop, a crucifix attached to the laces, frankincense-scented insoles and a Latin INRI inscription that translates to “Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews.”

Several Arrested Outside MTV VMAs in Newark After Protests Over Lead in City’s Water

Police in Newark made several arrests outside the MTV Video Music Awards on Monday after protesters gathered to bring attention to the lead contamination in the city’s water supply. Police said the arrests came after some protesters attempted to enter a secure area of the star-studded event.

Many residents in New Jersey’s largest city have been dealing with high levels of lead in their water supply for more than two years, which has led to people being asked to use bottle water as city officials and federal authorities search for a solution. The high lead levels are caused by the metal in the service plumbing lines wearing away.

Dozens of protesters made their way to the Prudential Center in downtown Newark on Monday, where celebrities including Taylor Swift, Cardi B, Lil Nas X and Megan Thee Stallion walked the red carpet.

Chants of “We don’t want no MTV, we want our water lead free” were heard during the gathering to the New Jersey Star-Ledger.

“We had some good chants, a lot of good energy and raised a lot of good politics,” Al Moussab, the president of the Newark Education Workers Caucus, who attended the protest tells TIME.

Newark’s Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said in a statement that “out of towners” came to Newark to try to disrupt the event, which was being broadcast to the world.

“They were dealt with swiftly and without incident, thanks to the professionalism and preparedness of our officers,” he said.

Moussab estimates 125 people, including some from his Newark-based group, attended the protest.

Photos and videos of the protests were posted on social media that showed people walking with signs and chanting against the water crisis, as well as the officer who were present, calling them “racist police.”

On Monday, Newark announced that the city will borrow $ 120 million to speed up the amount of time it will take to replace the pipes that are causing the high lead levels, the Associated Press reported.

These Naruto-Inspired Water Park Moves Are Making an Infectiously Joyous Splash

Instead of using a Naruto run to storm Area 51 — an idea that over 2 million people recently latched onto — these water park attendees got inspired to bring the Japanese anime show’s magic to life in a much less dangerous situation.

In a video that began going viral on Reddit on Tuesday, a young man can be seen standing underneath a water park dumping bucket and performing hand signs in the style of Naruto‘s water release jutsu, moves that are often used in the show to manipulate pre-existing sources of water. As he finishes the routine, the bucket tips and unleashes a massive cascade of water as if he had called the wave himself.

The water absolutely soaks both him and his friend, an outcome that earns a laugh as he walks away from the splash zone. However, the video has sparked some debate among close watchers.

Some Redditors were quick to point out that his moves may not technically have been the right ones. “This would be a ten minute gif if he used the correct hand signs,” quipped user Tea-acH-Cee.

Water Cooler Chat: from Simona Halep’s Wimbledon win to a Gossip Girl reboot

Here’s the news you missed over the weekend…

TPN/Getty Images

Missed the news this weekend due to the heatwave? Don’t sweat it – we’ve got you covered.

Here are some news stories you probably should have heard about to help you survive the dreaded Monday morning ‘water cooler chat’ at the office.

In this Monday’s Water Cooler Chat, we cover everything from Simona Halep’s Wimbledon win to revelations around a Gossip Girl reboot – it’s been an eventful weekend.

Simona Halep’s Wimbledon win

Simona Halep made history on Saturday, with the Romanian tennis player beating Serena Williams to win her first Wimbledon title.

‘It was my best match,’ the 27-year-old explained of her 6-2 6-2 triumph, with this win becoming her second Grand Slam title, after winning the French Open in 2018.

And it wasn’t just Simona who was proud of her playing, with Serena Williams accepting defeat gracefully, enthusing about her competitor: ‘She played out of her mind, it was a little bit deer in the headlights for me.’

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s joint Wimbledon appearance

The Duchess of Sussex joined the Duchess of Cambridge and Pippa Middleton in the royal box on Saturday to watch the Women’s Wimbledon final, seeing Simona Halep triumph over Serena Williams.

The three women laughed together, with the photographs going viral, putting rumours of a royal feud to bed, once and for all.

The longest Men’s Wimbledon Final in history

Sunday saw one of the most dramatic Men’s Wimbledon finals seeing Novak Djokovic triumph over Roger Federer.

The longest Men’s Final in Wimbledon history was five sets long and lasted over five hours, with the men offering kind words about each other, before both announcing that it was time to ‘go back to being dad’.

Calling the match the ‘most thrilling final [he’s] ever been a part of”, Novak Djokovic went on to call Roger Federer ‘one of the greatest players of all time’, announcing, ‘I respect [him] a lot’.

‘Unfortunately in a match like this, one of us has to lose’, he said before celebrating his fifth Wimbledon title.

Chase Crawford’s Gossip Girl reunion revelation

Ever since Gossip Girl left our screens, viewers have been begging for a GG reboot  – something that has got people talking this week – after Chase Crawford (Nate Archibald) opened up about it in a recent interview.

Yes, really. The actor addressed the rumours in a recent interview with Digital Spy, giving us all hope for an Upper East Siders reunion.

‘I don’t know what it would look like with us being in our 30s now, but I always say, because it was such a big part of my life, I’m open to anything,’ he explained. ‘It would have to be really right, and really specific, and with TV and the golden age of the TV streaming service, maybe an eight-episode season.’

Best water parks in the world

Water parks are great for making adults feel like they’re kids again, and for making kids have a ton of fun. The whole family can splash around in the pool or set their pulses racing by enjoying the water slides. There are plenty of water parks all over the world, and we reckon we’ve discovered the best of the best. Check out these amazing water parks found across the globe.

Typhoon Lagoon – Florida, USA

Disney isn’t content with taking over the movie business and is pretty high up on the list of amazing water parks too. Typhoon Lagoon is considered the best water park in the United States and given the competition that’s pretty impressive. There are water attractions aplenty as everywhere you turn offers you thrills and spills.

Not only can you get your heart racing with the slides but there are wildlife attractions to bring you face to face with some amazing marine life. Shark Reef is where you’ll want to head to meet those animals, but that’s not all, there’s also a giant raft ride on Gangplank Falls. Then as if that wasn’t enough you can even take surf lessons in their wave pool.

Typhoon Lagoon

WetSide Water Park – Hervey Bay, Australia

Water parks bring in thousands of people every year, and for a relatively small fee, you can go inside and have the time of your life. One thing that sets the WetSide Water Park apart from the others is the fact that this Australian attraction is completely free for anyone wanting to visit.

It won’t cost a cent to enjoy most of the park which is based around educating people about water and the wildlife that lives in it. There is a small cost for those who want to ride the wave machine on a board, but for $ 6 you can’t really have an issue.

Waterbom Bali – Kuta, Indonesia

Indonesia has become a hotspot for backpackers in recent years, but there is plenty here for families too. Waterbom Bali has some of the most original rides found anywhere in the world, and the park really pushes the boundaries. You can enjoy the Water Blaster, where you take aim and fire water balloons at riders, or get competitive against a friend on the Twin Racers ride. There’s, of course, a lazy river to take in, plus Asia’s steepest slide.

Waterbom Bali

Siam Park – Tenerife, Spain

There can be no real dispute that Siam Park in Tenerife, Spain, is the greatest water park in the world. According to TripAdvisor, it has been the top water park in the world for five years in a row. There are plenty of adrenaline pumping slides and rides for people to get their pulses racing, but there’s so much more.

To contrast the thrilling attractions there are family-friendly areas and even some spots for peace and quiet. There are over 30 rides for guests to enjoy, meaning you’ll probably end up not doing any twice in one day there’s so much choice. Siam Park also has its own wave pool, and even holds a world record for the largest ever man-made wave.

These are some of the best places in the world to get wet and wild at a water park. If you can’t have fun or enjoy yourself at these amazing locations then perhaps water parks really aren’t your thing.

‘Life Has Changed Very Dramatically.’ Meet the ‘Fiji Water Girl’ Who Became the Star of the 2019 Golden Globes

Kelleth Cuthbert is having a pretty good week. In just a couple of hours, the Los Angeles-based model became the Internet crowned Fiji water girl sensation for holding water bottles at the 76th Golden Globes. But if you’ve been on social media recently, you already know that.

Pictures of the “Fiji water girl” in the background of celebrity red carpet photos have been circulating at an impressive pace since Sunday’s broadcast. Though she was just doing her job as one of Fiji’s brand ambassadors at the event (responsible for keeping all the stars hydrated), she ended up in photos with Tony Shalhoub, Idris Elba, Dakota Fanning and even Heidi Klum lovingly kissing her fiancé, which Cuthbert tells TIME was one of her favorite photos of the night.

“I’ve worked with Fiji before, but this has never happened,” Cuthbert says.

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Cuthbert has been working as a fashion model and commercial actress for twelve years, so she is certainly no stranger to Hollywood. “I think it’s fun to work the red carpet and look at the fashion, but I never get starstruck,” she says.

Cuthbert says her Instagram following was around 53,000 before Sunday’s event. At press time, she has 189,000 followers—more than 256 percent increase. Though she’s still working on trucking through all of the emails, messages and comments she’s gotten since the Globes, she’s already been featured on the Late Late Show with James Corden.

And she’s gotten her fair share of marriage proposals on Instagram.

But because Cuthbert herself has gone viral, Fiji inevitably has, too. This marketing ploy was more than successful: Marketing analytics firm Apex Marketing Group estimates that Fiji would have had to spend $ 12 million for the same amount of brand exposure. But this wasn’t the first time the brand has worked with models in a similar fashion. Cuthbert has worked with Fiji at other events, including the Emmys. This one, luckily for both the brand and for the model, just happened to have some incredible photo-ops.

Despite working in the industry for more than a decade, Cuthbert isn’t quite used to her newfound fame. “Just a couple days ago, I was walking my dog with no makeup and sweatpants on—maybe even had my pajamas on. Life has changed very dramatically,” she says. But as for what’s next, she’s excited. “I just have to sift through everything and figure out what offers are good, but I definitely would love to do more acting, more modeling, and just to be really busy—really productive.”
